Hi Nixinova!

Yesterday, I edited the "12marc40awesome" you created. At that time I compiled the contents of that edit into "Summary", but I could not tell it to the end due to the limit of the number of characters. So I will tell you I could not tell yesterday.

About the HTML note about adding topics above

If a person uses the "add topic" button (next to "edit source"), they do not see your HTML note about where exactly to add the topic, and the wiki will automatically place the topic below your nav box. About File name cleanup

More about the filename project

I notice you removed the suggestion to ignore pages that are only used on translation pages.

There is no reason not to update the files on translation pages; if you don't then the gallery gets messed up and shows "File:YYYY-MM-DD-etc". Its not much extra effort, and it doesn't make a headache for the translators trying to fix all the images when you could've just done it. – Nixinova • • 04:04, 20 June 2017 (UTC)

Why I'm bothering to do it by hand

One thing about doing it by hand is that you can install categories where they belong. Because there are many places where they are missing. I'm not saying a bot wouldn't be helpful. But I'm really interested in filling out the Category:Java Edition specific information category with stuff that's been marked informally but never categorized.

In this instance, a bot could be used to categorise all pages that contain those phrases, so you only need to look at the pages in the category. –Majr ᐸ Talk

Your edits to Template:Only were causing a problem when multiple edition arguments are present. For example, {{only|pocket|console}} generated , with an extra "only" in there. Edits to Better Together Update

Thank you for catching my faulty interwiki prefix; I really intended to double check it, but forgot. I wish you wouldn't make changes just because you like your style better, though. I'm as proud of my contributions as you are, and when you change something I wrote that's relevant, stylistically poised, and without factual or grammatical error it feels disrespectful--especially when you do it 4 minutes after I wrote it! Maybe I shouldn't take it so personally, but then maybe you shouldn't be to quick to "correct" something that isn't a problem. I spent an hour and a half writing and revising a response, trying to make it relatable and clear and concise. Then I deleted it and wrote this. Why? Because that's what I do. Writing for the wiki, and writing in general, is something I pour a lot of my time, my mind, and my soul into. I don't stop until I'm proud of what I've written. So when somebody comes along and spends 30 seconds "improving" it, when there was nothing wrong with it to begin with, it insults me. It deprives me. The work is not mine any more, it's theirs. It was me on a page; now I'm erased. My thoughts, my efforts, my heart were not worth preserving. I am a shadow, and I will not be missed.

1. I changed "PC" to "computer". Nothing wrong there; computer is the better term because Minecraft is also on Mac and Linux

Since you seem to be trying to understand, I'll respond, and thank you for being willing. I've just returned from being treated to a birthday dinner, so I'm in a good mood and will try not to be so sour.

You insist on framing our conflict in terms of matters of fact. Facts aren't at the heart of the matter for me, but in deference to you I'll address them first.

1. "PC" does not mean "Windows computer", it means "personal computer", and it includes Mac and Linux desktops. You may disagree because the more restrictive usage is becoming more common over time, and maybe it will become the dominant meaning when your generation enters adulthood, but for the present the broader meaning is the one recognized by most lexicographers. There's a second response to this as well: "The PC edition" is a term of art on this wiki. A term of art's meaning isn't obtained from its component words, it's established by agreement of the community that uses it. This implies that you can't analyze the worlds separately, you have to treat it as a phrase with its own meaning. What confuses the issue is that the wiki originally used "the computer edition" as its term of art, and there are still some examples of it that never got changed. The current consensus, however, is that we use "the PC edition" to refer to the Java version. That's about to change very soon, but it hasn't yet, so it was the right one for me to use.

2. No, "Java Edition" is not the official name, not until the BTU is released, but that has nothing to do with it that I can see. Are you struggling to keep track of where articles and edits belong on the time line? I don't mean that disdainfully, it's just that you're a member of the Renaming project so I know you know the name change is tied to the update's official release. I've also noticed you "jumping the gun" to update some things prematurely, so I'm wondering if maybe managing abstract time frames is a skill that the brain develops later in the teens; it would explain some things. Anyway, maybe it will help if I tell you I included that phrase for a specific purpose. It shows that Microsoft chose to rename it as Minecraft: Java Edition as opposed to, say, Minecraft: PC Edition or Minecraft: Classic Edition because they're embracing the user community's own term of art (as will we, once the update is released). In other words, they're trying to be sensitive to the community and not make corporate decisions in a vacuum. That's an informative and reassuring fact for people who have been worried their version of Minecraft is on the way out. Deleting it was not an improvement.

Now to the point I've really been trying to get across to you. It's okay to correct an error of fact or grammar or a fatally awkward phrase--the Wikipedia advice to Be Bold encourages it, and it doesn't usually offend anyone because nobody wants to look ignorant. But when there's no technical flaw in a brand new post, it's best to leave it alone, at least for a while. People sometimes put a lot of hard work into their contributions, and if somebody else changes it after a cursory review it's like a slap in the face. It's like they spent hours building a sand castle only to have somebody carelessly ride their bike through the middle 2 minutes later and justify it by saying "What are you on about? It was just piles of sand!". No, it wasn't, not to them. To them it was a work of art, the very best they had to give, and somebody just called it dirt.

We have no way of knowing how much effort somebody puts into an edit. We can't judge how invested they are in it. We're not supposed to engage our egos in wiki editing, but that's just an ideal: Not everybody can let go the instant they press Save. But we can make room for our differences. It doesn't hurt the rest of us to cut them some slack for a day or two so they can enjoy feeling like their efforts are valued and appreciated. Or, if there is some flaw that must be fixed, we can make the smallest possible edit that fixes it without obliterating the OP's thumbprint. Anything more than that is disrespectful of their dignity and a snubbing of their gift to the wiki. It's just a common courtesy we owe each other as members of a community. Do you see what I'm saying?

One more thing and I'll stop. Although I do get annoyed when I see you make edits I don't see a need for, I'm not your enemy. I don't think you mean to be disrespectful, I just think you need time to develop your social skills. But there are things about you that impress me and that I admire, too, such as your sophisticated prose writing skills and your dedication to the wiki. You might notice that I don't limit my vocabulary with you either, because I think yours is advanced enough to follow me. (If I'm wrong and I'm talking over your head, I'm sorry; I can be plainer if you like.) Even when I'm vexed, I know we're lucky to have you here. I want you to know that, and I'd like us to be on good terms. Maybe we could even play online together sometime, after the update. I'll bet you'd like to test me in PvP. (You'd win of course, but that wouldn't bother me.)
