Piston generator design[]

Anybody think there could be a way to break the cobble automatically? You can make sand break on a partial block, so would that happen here with cobble being pushed onto the partial block? --Indy 18:21, 12 July 2011 (UTC)

The vanilla pistons are unable to break cobblestone.
You could, however, add a 'detonation chamber' to your cobblestone generator. Make a room surrounded by obsidian. Fill it with cobblestone from the generator. Then light tnt through the obsidian wall. Have a water stream below to collect the falling items into a central location. Or the tnt could be dropped in from an opening in the ceiling of the room.
I'm not entirely serious about this idea. That being said, I'm about to build one. Qcdynamics 21:54, 12 July 2011 (UTC)
Well, that was hilariously inefficient. Qcdynamics 22:29, 12 July 2011 (UTC)
I thought so. TNT destroys about 70% of drops from destroyed blocks. Anyway, if you are going to hack a tonne of TNT into the game for that purpose, it's probably just as easy to "/give <player> 4 64" --HexZyle 08:08, 14 July 2011 (UTC)
Wouldn't that TNT effect be reduced at a greater distance? The idea may still work with some tweaking. --Mercenary 08:09, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
Possibly. You would have to search through the code to find where it calculates block drops. If it isn't in the code, you can assume that one ray of the explosion breaks the block, and another ray destroys the drop, since the rays are more concentrated at the centre, one can assume that blocks towards the edge would be least affected. --HexZyle 23:27, 22 July 2011 (UTC)

Why not have the wither break the cobblestone? It breaks the cobblestone and if you have the cobblestone be pushed into the wither and it breaks it and the cobblestone gets dropped into flowing water which carries it into hoppers which carry it into chests so it would be automatic? 89% efficient generator.[]

I have figured designs for a generator without pistons, that you just have to hold the break blocks button in, and it only has a 11% loss. Designed with the speed of a stone pick in mind

Nothing=air
B=any block
C=cobble
W=water
L=lava
w=flowing water
l=flowing lava
S=sign/ladder
D=wood planks

The wood block is so when you are holding left button, it doesn't mess with the mechanism.

This page is ripe for the new Schematics Template.[]

Template:Schematic could be used to map out the generators from all those videos. Note that we will probably need several subpages (using loadPage) to hold all the schematics, as there are (unfortunately) per-page limits on the template. I might take a poke at it myself one I'm done with the Redstone Circuits pages, but anyone should feel free to jump in. ETA: Whoops, I just realize Munin hasn't named the lava and water sprites yet! Maybe in a few days.... --Mental Mouse 13:10, 18 April 2013 (UTC)

OK, the lava and water sprites are named. Ready to go! --Mental Mouse 15:02, 19 April 2013 (UTC)

Fountain cobble generator improvement?[]

I built the fountain generator then improved mine by pushing the lava source block back one. This gives you the ability to hold down the pick button without danger of punching through the back and also makes it work faster because you start mining immediately so catch it nearly every time the lava attempts to flow. Tileable Smooth Stone Generator[]

So I came up with a design for a tileable smooth stone generator that runs on an 11-clock, but I don't really have the means or the patience to create a tutorial video. Here's a screenshot of a quick cutaway I made if anyone wants to make a tutorial video for it: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_VizWjkxPiLM0lGWDF4c28tNFE/view?usp=sharing In case you can't see, there's redstone on top of the upper right stone brick block next to the dispenser. --71.46.87.4 16:54, 2 August 2016 (UTC)

All the pictures are gone?[]

While the few designs that have "schematics" are still there, most of the designs here have conspicuous empty spaces instead of any indication of how to build them. IIRC, those used to be screenshots and/or videos... the question is what happened to them, and can they be retrieved? --MentalMouse42 (talk) 02:34, 6 August 2018 (UTC)

To me it looks like every single design shown on this page, except maybe one or two, has a corresponding video - 30 videos in total. Not sure why it wouldn't show up for you. Maybe it's just your computer running slow?-- Madminecrafter12Orange Glazed TerracottaTalk to meLight Blue Glazed Terracotta 02:51, 6 August 2018 (UTC)
Hmm. Poking around, I'm also not seeing videos on various other tutorials where there ought to be (or even links to them). So it does seem to be me, but I don't know why. "Running slow" has never been a problem for me before, and refreshing doesn't seem to help. I'm not having any problem with Youtube.  :-( --MentalMouse42 (talk) 11:13, 6 August 2018 (UTC)
More info: Adblock plus is disabled, NoScript is set to allow everything. VideoDownloadHelper says "no media to process on the current tab", so it's not seeing the videos either. ETA: It is seeing videos on other tabs, but not Gamepedia tabs. I'm using Firefox on Ubuntu. ETA2: Twitch videos are working fine. --MentalMouse42 (talk) 11:47, 6 August 2018 (UTC)

Hey guys, Xplode here, I may be a bit late to the party but can you retrieve blocks pushed into a headless piston? That would be a good fully auto farm, and the tnt drops all the blocks now so tnt may be a viable option. Right now I am sticking with my wither generator, might add a second one if I can get some more skulls...--97.70.100.164 12:18, 2 June 2019 (UTC)

Split cobblestone and stone generators[]

Hello,

This article about cobblestone farming is now half about stone farming.

I suggest to split this up in a Cobblestone farming page and a Stone farming page.

Thank you for any feedback you could give, Sagessylu (talk) 15:33, 1 March 2020 (UTC)

 Oppose, a stone farm could be used as a cobblestone farm (no silk touch) and a cobble farm can be used as a stone farm (smelting)---Humiebee Discuss anything with me Look at my edits 23:07, 9 September 2020 (UTC)

Generators not working in 1.13[]

Generator C no longer works in Java Edition 1.13, and I presume no others no longer work to although I haven't checked. This is confusing for new or returning players, like me. I had to look up the liquid mechanics changes to figure out why it didn't work. This page could probably use a rewrite, but for now I'd like to add a note that some of these generators no longer work. Is that alright?

Chartype (talk) 16:42, 5 July 2020 (UTC)

Showcased designs have been broken for almost FIVE YEARS.[]

Due to the changes to fluid mechanics introduced in 1.13, almost FIVE YEARS ago, a large majority of these schematic designs no longer work, if the schematics can even be followed in the first place. To say this page is in need of an overhaul would be a MASSIVE understatement.
