Moving out of user space

As the first heading on the page explains, this page should be moved out of the user space in order to prevent edits from being disallowed.

Helen has declared this to be "the official parity issue list", and as such people want to help contribute to it, even new ones who made no edits yet.

Considering both this list, and the unintuitive ID list are shared with the developers, I’d like to keep them close together.

A couple of suggested locations to move to (more suggestions are welcome)

  1. Minecraft_Wiki:Parity_Issue_List (and Minecraft_Wiki:Unintuitive_ID_List)
  2. Minecraft_Wiki:Projects/Parity_Issue_List (and Minecraft_Wiki:Projects/Unintuitive_ID_List)
  3. Minecraft_Wiki:Parity_issue_list (and Minecraft_Wiki:Unintuitive_ID_list)
  4. Minecraft_Wiki:Projects/Parity_issue_list (and Minecraft_Wiki:Projects/Unintuitive_ID_list)

Please tell me which you'd like to see it moved to.

Strong support In my opinion the third name ([[Minecraft Wiki:Parity issue list]]) would be better as it it less of a project about the wiki but an "official" documentation/list.   HorseHead GRASP logo MarkusRost (talk) 17:07, 3 April 2019 (UTC) (edited 18:24, 3 April 2019 (UTC))
Support Minecraft_Wiki:Parity issue list for the same reason as MarkusRost, and sentence case seems more natural. –Sonicwave talk 17:16, 3 April 2019 (UTC) (edited 18:03, 3 April 2019 (UTC))
Why not "Minecraft Wiki:Parity issue list", sentence case? --AttemptToCallNil (report bug, view backtrace) 17:18, 3 April 2019 (UTC)
To be honest, I didn't even think about changing the case, adding those to the humble list of suggested locations. FVbico (talk) 17:35, 3 April 2019 (UTC)
Support "Minecraft Wiki:Parity issue list" (sentence case).  Oppose Projects/ subpages for the same reason as MarkusRost, and  Oppose title-case variants because title case is not necessary. --AttemptToCallNil (report bug, view backtrace) 17:50, 3 April 2019 (UTC)
Support option 3: sentence case and this is not a project. – Nixinova Nixinova sig1 Nixinova sig2 06:32, 4 April 2019 (UTC)

There’s a clear consensus for option3: Minecraft_Wiki:Parity_issue_list (and Minecraft_Wiki:Unintuitive_ID_list)

But before we move it, I’d like one more option considered (sorry, only now just though of this option, and my preference actually goes to this): Minecraft_Wiki:Offical_lists/Parity_issues (and Minecraft_Wiki:Official lists/Unintuitive_IDs)

Please tell me what your opinions are on this location. FVbico (talk) 09:04, 4 April 2019 (UTC)

I don't think there's going to be many pages that'd go into an "Official lists" top level page. Just these two, unless you have more of them planned. Maybe there are other "official" pages though, like bedrock addon information etc, and they aren't lists. If you go for subpaging, it could be a good idea to possibly combine it with that. Otherwise, I'd also go for option 3. But if this becomes a series of subpages, grouping them under one top level page is definitely interesting, similar to the Tutorials discussion. – Jack McKalling [ Book and Quill Diamond Pickaxe ] 09:17, 4 April 2019 (UTC)
I’ve asked some minecraft staff to see what they’d think about moving them to either Official_pages/... or Minecraft_Wiki:Official_pages/... we’ll see what the replies will be. FVbico (talk) 11:20, 6 April 2019 (UTC)
Got a reply, Helen likes to see the pages moved there, the rest of Mojang doesn't really care, as long as they have up-to-date links for their pages. FVbico (talk) 18:13, 8 April 2019 (UTC)

Thrown trident has proper lighting

"Thrown trident has proper lighting" -- what does this mean? - tryashtar (talk) 05:01, 29 May 2019 (UTC)

Most entries were originally taken from the exclusive features pages, this is one of them, so I'm not sure myself. I'll try to find what exactly the difference islater today. FVbico (talk) 05:03, 29 May 2019 (UTC)

Better searchability

Right now, it's rather hard to find a certain entry when looking for it to see if it's listed, mainly because the list is so big, and only globally categorized.

Anyone have any suggestions to improve it? FVbico (talk) 06:42, 5 June 2019 (UTC)

Well then, nobody got any ideas? How sad. FVbico (talk) 08:26, 5 July 2019 (UTC)
Further subcategorisation, like what we do in version pages (using ;s), may help. – Nixinova Nixinova sig1 Nixinova sig2 08:46, 5 July 2019 (UTC)
I altered the Blocks list of bedrock already, it seems to help already, but not sure to what extend if the whole page is changed to match it. FVbico (talk) 09:49, 5 July 2019 (UTC)
I always search for specific keywords with Ctrl + F or the built-in find in page feature if one exists, and I also think that subcategorization will tremendously help. – ItsPlantseed|⟩ 10:12, 5 July 2019 (UTC)

Console Parities

Console Edition has it's differences, why isn't it in this list?73.208.227.101 21:53, 9 September 2019 (UTC)

The only remaining console version is PS4 and since it's based on (and will soon merge with) bedrock edition there is no need for a console parity list.  Nixinova T  C  21:59, 9 September 2019 (UTC)
"and will soon merge with", that's actually still speculation; neither sony, nor mojang has announced it to be true.
But yes, only PS4 remains and is basically the same as bedrock at this point. FVbico (talk) 22:34, 9 September 2019 (UTC)
So if I made a console edition section you would delete it?73.208.227.101 20:53, 10 September 2019 (UTC)
It's not needed, as it's mostly in parity with bedrock as it is, and I'd not recommend adding it as it makes the list even harder to sort out just for a few parity issues between bedrock and console.
And as stated, it's likely (but unconfirmed) that PS4 will be changed to be bedrock too. FVbico (talk) 21:01, 10 September 2019 (UTC)
Sony has announced that they will enable cross-platform play on all games so I think PS4 edition will be discontinued. But I am not sure.--Delibirda (talk) 08:05, 4 October 2019 (UTC)
If they are major differences then I would say they should be added. But have you found them yet? Lê Duy Quang (Make some words | Contributions) at 8h08:15 | 4/10/2019 (UTC)
Legacy Console Edition exclusive features73.208.227.101 21:39, 21 October 2019 (UTC)
As minor as this may sound, there are quite a lot of console exclusives/parity issues between the 3 versions and I believe that it could be quite beneficial to add them to the page. I've been documenting each issue since 2017 and I have a lot more than what the wiki currently has. Aqwhalo (talk) 23:13, 18 January 2020 (UTC)
Since all legacy console editions have been discontinued, it no longer makes sense to document them. Mojang just wants parity between the Bedrock and Java Editions. The BlobsPaper 23:25, 18 January 2020 (UTC)

Upcoming / Until templates

About {{upcoming}}/{{until}} templates, I do not really agree with some of their uses on this page. For example, I will use the sentence Beds can set the spawnpoint of a player during the day.. This functionality is in the Bedrock edition, and not in the Java edition. In 1.15, it will be added to the Java edition. Then, when 1.15 will be out, this sentence will be removed from the page as this is no longer a parity issue. If the {{until}} template means this line will be removed in this version, I think it should be better to use it instead of an {{upcoming}} template. Derugon (talk) 10:00, 12 September 2019 (UTC)

The line represents a feature, the feature will be upcoming, thus it gets the upcoming template.
If would beds no longer set spawn in bedrock, it would get until, as that feature would be gone; either way, that'd result in removal of the list.
Not in java, upcoming in bedrock; not in bedrock upcoming in java; not in java, until in bedrock; not in bedrock until in java would all result in removal from this list, yet they all mean separate things. FVbico (talk) 10:17, 12 September 2019 (UTC)

Tested

At least in Bedrock, undead mobs are not even able to get regeneration. Can someone test this in Java Edition?--Delibirda (talk) 12:07, 7 October 2019 (UTC)

In Bedrock 1.18.2, an End Portal in the Nether sends you to the End. Can someone test it in Java? WarpedWartWars (talk) 05:51, 1 January 2022 (UTC)

Some things to add to the list

Here's a list of things that haven't been added yet:

Java

  • Eating animation is different. In Java, the food item is positioned higher up on the screen. This may also apply to every item that has a consuming animation.
  • Swords and pickaxes do not point up when held in third person. This applies to wither skeleton's swords' too and may apply to axes, shovels, and hoes too.
  • Fire emits more smoke particles.
  • The 2x2 crafting grid in the inventory says "Crafting" above it.
  • Block outlines are partially transparent and aliased.
  • Anvil XP cost text has a darker gray rectangle behind it and the text has two shades of green instead of one. The text also says "Enchantment Cost" instead of "XP Cost". When there are not enough levels, the enchantment cost text is red instead of gray.
  • Tools take longer to show up when switching to them.
  • Health regeneration is faster after eating food.
  • Sound range is greater. In Bedrock, things a couple of blocks away sound very quiet.
  • The Creative inventory has more categories.
  • Chat is automatically opened when sleeping in a bed.
  • Mouse sensitivity when looking around is more responsive.
  • Cut sandstone and cut red sandstone slabs can be crafted in the stonecutter and stone bricks can craft chiseled stone bricks in the stonecutter. (MCPE-42734 and MCPE-50057)
  • "Quit game" button on the title screen.
  • Sunrise afterglow is visible during rainy weather.
  • Holding shift and double-clicking while holding an item moves all items of the type clicked on in or out of chests.
  • Pressing 1–9 switches the item hovered over with the cursor with the item in that slot of the hotbar, or move the item from one to the other if either slot is empty.

Bedrock

  • View bobbing is different. When enabled, the player's hand and item sway a lot more than it does in Java. When disabled, the hand and item do not sway at all.
  • GUIs have an "X" button on the top right corner.
  • Stonecutter, grindstone, loom, and villager GUIs are different.
  • Placing an unenchanted tool in the grindstone does not place an "X" on the arrow, thus allowing the player to select the tool in the output slot despite nothing happening to it.
  • The loom shows all banner designs even if there is no banner in it.
  • When holding an item in first person, the item slowly moves up and down, similar to how the player's arms move slowly in third person.
  • Recipes in the recipe book do not need to be unlocked and are available from the start.
  • The "Craftable" toggle for the recipe book shows all items you have at least 1 ingredient for.
  • Footsteps are much louder and music is much quieter.
  • The "Minecraft" logo has a newer texture/look.
  • Button highlights are green.
  • Experience orbs are collected faster.
  • Cave generation is greater. I'm not 100% sure on this, but it does feel like they are. Almost every cave I enter, it goes on for a very long time.
  • Sky has a different color of gray when raining. Java is more blueish gray.
  • Chat messages are on the top left of the screen instead of the bottom left.
  • Swinging animations for tools are different.
  • Skins support 128x128 resolution.
  • Skin packs.
  • Featured servers.
  • Cross-platform play.
  • Marketplace.
  • Seed picker.

--98.21.106.252 22:50, 17 October 2019 (UTC)

Feel free to add them to the list; though try to be more specific than just "is/are different". FVbico (talk) 12:31, 18 October 2019 (UTC)

Some more minor missing parity

The new default skins from the Java launcher aren't on the Bedrock editions default character creator Steve and Alex.

Java capes aren't on Bedrock and Bedrock capes aren't on Java.

Allay's on Java aren't as emissive in texture as their Bedrock counterparts.

Java still lacks Bedrocks feature of double resolution skins (128x res skins)

Bedrock has 128x128 custom skin support but Java still lacks this years later.

More Minor Parity differences

Java still lacks Bedrock's Player Item drop sound (Q key)

Java and Bedrock don't have all capes on both via cape parity

Bedrock still doesn't have mud and soulsand sinking like Java

Java still lacks Bedrock's Biome tint for water in the Nether (Red), Mushroom Hills Biome (Purple), and the End (Purple).
