Old bugs

Going back through the page history, we have revisions around this time which states "In SMP when a Mooshroom is sheared, a server-side cow spawns, as well as a client-side cow that spawns for the player who sheared the Mooshroom. (This bug was partially fixed in update 1.2.3, however it would still occur rarely.)" I can attest it doesn't happen in singleplayer. – Sealbudsman talk/contr 12:34, 18 April 2016 (UTC)

I'm wondering, does that really belong in the history section anyways? It may have lasted for quite a few versions, but was entirely client side and really did not affect game play all that much (no more than any of the other ghost mob bugs or the old mobs glitching into the floor). Right; it wasn't a game-altering change.
The item where they (apparently) used to spawn in other biomes, on the other hand... that sounds like a possibly non-buggy and substantial change. We should find out about that, when that started and when that stopped. – Sealbudsman talk/contr 16:20, 19 April 2016 (UTC)

Alright, I'm convinced the mooshroom-in-other-biomes bug doesn't exist anymore, and maybe never existed, considering A) it wasn't issue-tracked on this wiki at the time, B) the anon that added it didn't include any edit summary, C) the talk page discussion about it in 2011/12 had people mostly saying it's never happened, and D) it's never been an issue on the official tracker... also E) it could just as easily have been corrupted biome data that one or two people were seeing, which isn't even strictly mooshroom-related. Going to delete that item. – Sealbudsman talk/contr 05:51, 3 May 2016 (UTC)

I wonder if it was similar to how emerald ore can generate slightly outside of extreme hills biomes. Since each entire chunk has a single spawn list, and there's a fair amount of variability in where mob packs can spawn, I can see a group of mooshrooms spawning in another biome that's close to a mushroom island. -- Orthotopetalk 15:05, 3 May 2016 (UTC)
Sure, it could easily be. – Sealbudsman talk/contr 15:13, 3 May 2016 (UTC)

I have bben clearing my Moosroom Island and replacing all the Podzol with Grass though I am noticing that no mooshroom spawn on grass while it is stated that Moosroom can SPawn on Grass in the Wiki

Maybe there could be a section of brown mooshrooms as this isn't that informative Hazbo111 (talk) 19:28, 23 November 2019 (UTC)

The only differences between brown and red mooshrooms (besides appearance) are that they don't spawn naturally, they drop brown mushrooms when sheared and they can be milked for suspicious stew; all of these are currently mentioned in the article. –Sonicwave talk 21:39, 23 November 2019 (UTC)
