'Occupation' needs to be edited[]

Seeing as Notch has left Mojang, anything saying that Notch works there should be edited. ISmile02 (talk) 01:10, 14 January 2015 (UTC)

I love notch’s game!! (Minecraft) -anonymous minecraft player| 174.218.13.202 02:28, 21 July 2018 (UTC)

First Line[]

I quote: 'Markus Alexej Persson, more commonly known as Notch, is the creator of Minecraft and the owner of Mojang AB.' shouldn't it be 'the former owner of Mojang AB.' Danski454 (talk) 08:42, 16 April 2015 (UTC)

3rd Paragraph in Biography Section[]

Link, archive[]

  • In paragraph 4, I might link where it says "...go back to doing Ludum Dares ..."
  • Also this talk page might benefit from some archiving. – Sealbudsman (Aaron) SealbudsmanFace t/c 15:33, 2 June 2015 (UTC)
Archived, though the edit has to be made by someone else.
To an admin: when making the other edit, can you move /Crapversion archive to /Archive 1 to be named a little more consistently? The title can still be displayed here. The {{archive}} header should also be added. KnightMiner t/c 16:01, 2 June 2015 (UTC)

"the owner of Mojang AB"[]

I've gotta say, I don't understand the practice of giving permanent top-level protection to an article like this - on a community wiki - and then refusing to keep it up to date, for many months after the opening sentence became factually incorrect. 173.217.158.22 00:28, 9 June 2015 (UTC)

page needs updating[]

the page on notch really needs updating. he no longer owns mojang or works there.

‡Selene011‡ (talk) 19:29, 23 November 2015 (UTC)

The main text is up to date, as he still is a game developer (working on smaller projects), and the biography mentions his departure. Really the only parts that need updating are the infobox (where it has the two issues you mentioned). KnightMiner t/c 02:37, 24 November 2015 (UTC)

Remove his part of Mojang website in Biography.[]

"Persson has his own part of the Mojang website that can be found at http://www.mojang.com/notch" - Not anymore he doesn't. This needs to be removed. It's the second paragraph of biography.

agreed

2016 update needed[]

"assets" spelt wrongly as asseSts in the part about mojang being sold to microsoft.

also, the links to all his games no longer work (they return an error 404) Randomystick (talk) 12:21, 30 July 2016 (UTC)

Drops apples on death[]

This isn't true in the more recent versions of the game as far as I know. There are videos of Notch getting killed on YouTube, and he never drops an apple in the most recent versions. ―HalfOfAKebab (talk, contribs) 02:39, 28 August 2017 (UTC)

At the end of the article, it states that Kristoffer is his brother in law, shouldn't it say Ex-Brother in law, since Kristoffer's sister divorced Notch.–Preceding unsigned comment was added by Maxthecyborgforums (talkcontribs) at March 1, 2018 (UTC). Please sign your posts with ~~~~

Downgrade protection[]

Is there really any need for this page to be admins-only protected? Checking the history of the page shows that it was protected after a wave of vandalism by almost exclusively IP users, and restricting it only to admins is unfair on autoconfirmed users. There's also outdated information on the page I can't fix up because of this. - MinecraftPhotos4U (talk) 18:59, 15 March 2018 (UTC)

I would support this. Honestly, however, based on how users previously made many edit requests that never got replies, it's probable that an admin won't see this post. I definitely think that there should be an editcopy of this article if this page doesn't become unprotected; I mentioned this on the community portal talk page, but it only got one reply from a non-admin. I would support either lowering protection or creating an edit copy, but I think notifying an admin directly would probably be the best option. (Unless a admin sees this post, which would be great!)--Orange Glazed Terracotta Madminecrafter12TC 19:59, 15 March 2018 (UTC)

19w13a Snapshot and bigoted behavior warrant inclusion[]

The 19w13a Snapshot removed all use of his name due to outrage over his transphobic comments and even attacks which he made through his social media. If this is enough to warrant official action than it's enough to warrant at least some mention here.

At the absolute least it's important to establish the current Minecraft staff have called out his behavior and that his beliefs do not represent those of the current Minecraft developers. 173.212.88.161 22:44, 27 March 2019 (UTC)

At least do you have any sources to back up these claims? -BDJP (t|c) 22:54, 27 March 2019 (UTC)
The removal of those splashes is in no way any proof that they acted on his (recent) behaviour. Notch is simply not the/a developer of the game anymore and removing direct references of his name might just be a coincidence in relation to social media. Otherwise this is just speculation which has no place on the wiki. – Jack McKalling [ Book and Quill Diamond Pickaxe ] 22:58, 27 March 2019 (UTC)
Notch's political leanings or beliefs have absolutely no baring on this article. It seems ridiculous to consider including it for any reason, as he had left the project for years before talking about any such topics. His relevance to Minecraft is limited entirely to his history as a programmer and developer, and including any details relating to controversy or politics only opens the door to including the same for every other developer. It makes the most sense to me to maintain an absolute separation in this case. If someone wants to know about it, I'm sure it's detailed on his Wikipedia page. 66.102.84.93
If you're excluding his recent behavior, then why is the fact that his twitter is gone included in the biography section? That's not relevant to Minecraft at all. 76.99.5.163 19:20, 1 September 2020 (UTC)
This argument is self-defeating. If you have any personal details about Persson - his marriage, his activities at age 7 - then it is critical to include what is probably the most important fact about this man other than the fact that he created Minecraft. His use of his worldwide popularity and platform to distribute bigoted and far-right messages is 100% relevant to ANY discussion of his life or work. And the removal of the splashes was mentioned by every reporting organization in conjunction with his behavior; while Microsoft has not issued a formal statement, it's equally ludicrous to claim that there is "no proof" these things are related, or it was a coincidence. Microsoft also took the extraordinary step of uninviting Persson to the 10th anniversary Minecraft celebration, and these are all widely reported together and happened at nearly the same time. It is hardly speculation to repeat it. However, I will say that the fact that his twitter is gone is actually relevant, since the top of the page instructs you to contact him via twitter. It's probably best to adjust that banner as well. 70.237.120.187 12:02, 25 September 2020 (UTC)

I cannot find any proper information ln him living in denmark at any point[]

First i read "he lived in denmark before moving to swede lol" (spelling mistake was there) and then it seems someone changed it to "he went to school in denmark before moving to sweden with his parents. I can not find any source of any of these. Korver1 (talk) 17:43, 6 July 2019 (UTC)

Indeed, I've looked around and I can't find any evidence of him ever living in Denmark. I think you were correct in removing it, so thanks! Cheers, --Madminecrafter12 (Talk to me | View what I've done) 17:56, 6 July 2019 (UTC)

Minicraft?[]

Shouldn't Minicraft have a page like Minecraft 4k (or more then one like minecraft earth and dungeons) --Gtbot2007 (talk) 22:17, 12 February 2021 (UTC)

Um, this is talking for talking about Markus Persson (mainly the page) not Minecraft. Gameking1happy (talk) 22:23, 12 February 2021 (UTC)
Oh I see now. Gameking1happy (talk) 22:24, 12 February 2021 (UTC)
No no, he's talking about Minicraft, not Minecraft. I've thought about making a Minicraft page myself since it's technically an official Minecraft spinoff game, but I'm not really sure where to begin with it. AlienAgent124 (talk) 05:29, 13 February 2021 (UTC)

A few suggestions[]

  • I think you should include the line "It's not about the money. It's about my sanity", because it would help readers understand why he left Mojang. It's very important because it sums up why he left in just two short, very easily understood sentences.
  • Maybe you should mention that he wasn't invited to the 10th anniversary celebration, to give more context to that statement by the Microsoft spokesperson.
  • Add at least a mention of his Tumblr blog, The Word of Notch, and link to the page on this wiki about it. Use the last post on that blog, "So that's what I'm going to do", as a source of information about what his plans were after he cancelled 0x10c.
  • Change "soundcloud" to "SoundCloud".
  • Change the "M" in "Mojang.com/notch" to lowercase, since it's a URL.
  • Change "Creating Minecraft, founder of Mojang Studios" to "Creating Minecraft, founding Mojang Studios".
