The iron ore wiki states that iron is found between "20 to 80 blocks deep". Is this calculated as below any surface block? eg. - Just five minutes ago, I dug down to the bedrock and found iron ore a few blocks away from an opening to the void. That said, I suspect the article is talking about depth relative to the top of the map - it may be the chunk I dug down to was generated before some patch or other, it may be the article was written before some patch or other, or it may even be that the article is just plain wrong. Either way, I seem to find loads more iron near the surface then I do at the deeper levels, making deeper mines a bit of a waste of time (as iron ies arguably the most valuable ore). - Bomb Bloke 09:47, 5 December 2010 (UTC)
I have run 20 new maps from the introduction of the beta. I feel as if Iron has been increased in terms of commonplace. In the last few versions of alpha I was getting iron at a rate of 1/200 ish blocks revealed (at a depth of 8-11 from the bottom of the map), as opposed to the now 1/100 blocks revealed(same depth) is it just me or has someone else noticed this as well? - user:hiro17 1:31 am 12/28/2010 I noticed, i currently have 127 iron ingots (a full stack of 64 and a stack of 63) ICantThinkOfAGoodUsername 20:54, 15 January 2011 (UTC)
Change Title to Iron Ore
I propose that we change the title of this article to Iron Ore. Seeing as the in-game tool-tip calls this block Iron Ore, I see no reason why we need to have the parenthetical in the title. --Nick2253 21:59, 21 July 2011 (UTC)

More Frequent
In the 1.8 Beta pre-release it seems to me like iron ore spawns more frequently. I've always thought it should spawn more often and if I'm wrong I want them to make it as frequent as it did in the seed I randomly got. -Babytoke

iron ore range?
this may seem strange, but in Minecraft PE, i have seen quite a number of instances where iron ore is spanning above sea level, and some times visible on the sides of mountains like coal no more than 5 blocks above sea level. I think that we should change the range on the page to include this info.
- It is my experience that iron ore spawns pretty much anywhere stone/coal appears in the PC version as well, including above levels 61/62, especially in extreme hills biomes. The only reason iron ore doesn't appear to spawn at higher levels normally is because the hills are much smaller in those places. I believe this should be more thoroughly investigated and noted on the main page. Zmcminer 17:02, 5 March 2013 (UTC)
- I did some digging in a high hill in a jungle down from around level 85 or so. I did not find any iron ore until level 60-something (I didn't check the exact level it first appeared) so based on that, I'm pretty sure the mineral page is correct about where iron ore stops spawning. Intro Section
On the intro section someone compared the color of an iron vein to that of a discolored gold vein. Many people ask why iron isn't silver colored in the vein and I always tell them it's because natural iron ore is not this color. The color is tainted by the presence of rust deposits throughout the vein, creating a red/brown color. This is why the ore in-game was intentionally made a brown color. Although this has relatively nothing to do with the function of ores, I think it'd be fitting to replace the comparison to gold with this explanation. 50.40.91.152 14:01, 1 December 2013 (UTC)
Pocket Edition History
I don't think that iron ore is added in 0.3.0, as I've been playing 0.2 for a while, you can actually find iron ores underground, but rare and unobtainable. You can also use a InvetoryEditor to change your selected slot to an iron ore in 0.2. --Jacky8399 (talk) 06:14, 18 January 2015 (UTC)
