Multiplayer Test refers to 23 versions of Classic released between May 31 and July 11, 2009. As the development substage's name implies, these versions were released mainly to implement and fix up multiplayer.

Multiplayer

• Players' names show above their heads.
• List logged-in players by pressing Tab ↹.

Chat

• Players can chat to other players on the server.

Commands

• /ban, /banip, /broadcast, /deop, /kick, /op, /tp, /unban, /setspawn, and /solid.
• Admin-only.

Skins

• Added custom skins.

Hotbar

• Can show up to 9 blocks.

Inventory

• Accessed by pressing B.

Sounds

• Added multiple .ogg sound files for breaking blocks.

• Customisable controls

Other

• Support for characters |, @, and $.

Sponge

• The sponge was a temporary fix to stop water from flooding until finite water was implemented. It soaked up water in a 5×5×5 volume around it.

• See-through.

• Aqua Green, Black, Blue, Cyan, Green, Grey, Indigo, Lime, Magenta, Orange, Pink, Purple, Red, Violet, White, Yellow.

• Dandelion

Block of Gold

• Was not crafted with 9 gold ingots as these did not exist at this time.
