Snow not able to be crafted in SMP

While in a SMP server, I tried to craft a Snow block. I used the correct snow block formation (Snowballs in a 2x2 square) and nothing happened, I looked the Snow block formation up and I had a correct formation. This bug is on 1.2.3 and higher. This bug is not in SSP. 67.11.209.77 22:58, 4 April 2012 (UTC)67.11.209.77

You may need to try this on different SMP servers. I just crafted snow blocks fine on mine.70.95.97.109 01:53, 11 July 2012 (UTC)Feylias

Chests turning black? and my hand

In creative mode in 1.8 whenever i look at chests (any direction) it turns black. when i look down with an empty hand its also black. what is this? oh, and when i hold a chest, its black NO MATTER WHAT. what is this and can i fix it? –Preceding unsigned comment was added by Naturelover2 (Talk|Contribs) 20:41, 19 September 2011. I found this bug in SSP too. More items are affected by this too. –Preceding unsigned comment was added by Lulloman (Talk|Contribs) 07:57, 26 September 2011. Please sign your posts with ~~~~

This is just a lighting problem of the new lighting system... but Notch will fix this, no doubt! --Lulloman 14:08, 26 September 2011 (UTC)

I feel like this problem is only for me... I watch people upload minecraft videos and its fine for them, but for me; My chests are turning black, my hand is flashing and signs are turning black. I cant read what I've wrote unless i go in some weird angle. –Preceding unsigned comment was added by 69.126.249.137 (Talk) 22:33, 19 October 2011. Please sign your posts with ~~~~

--- Me too, my chests are sometimes turning black. And all other entities are turning black too. This bug is there since the 1.8 update, and entities are still turning black. But I've got Minecraft 1.1 now, so I don't think this is a temporary bug! Please help –Preceding unsigned comment was added by 84.153.225.226 (Talk) 21:17, 6 February 2012. I have this problem too in my laptop since i updated to current version it's REALLY annoying, and i tried everything on game options. I also tried to install OptiFine and making all of the possible combinations in options. Nothing. I have all the graphics drivers and such up to date in both systems so i don't have a clue of what causes this problem. BTW in my case is not like "turning in black" but more like a blinking shadow or something, mobs, chests and others pass from bright to dark constantly. --83.42.145.68 19:28, 19 February 2012 (UTC)

now i use 1.2.5 and now it happens with signs too! optifine doesn't work (even before i got modloader because it not work with modloader, it crashes) Naturelover2 03:30, 7 June 2012 (UTC)

i've been getting the same problem as well since 1.8.1 and i am now on 1.2.5 and its really annoying and ugly. i see other people posting videos and they have no problems but i do, i wish i could figure out the source of this problem! –Preceding unsigned comment was added by 174.92.154.118 (Talk) 15:41, 15 June 2012‎ (UTC). This is probably a graphics card problem if in 1.2.5, and in 1.8 it was a level conversion thing(the chests had no light level). You could fix that a block update. 50.54.229.103 03:35, 17 July 2012 (UTC) This is NOT a graphics card glitch I think, because I play it on my PC all the time, shitty gfx card, but on my laptop it happens. New name discussion

The name "Known bugs" dates back to a time when Known bugs served as a secondary source listing well-known bugs documented elsewhere. Right now, the subpages of Known bugs serve as primary-source official issue lists. (As per community discussion, every version of Minecraft (including official release versions) should get its own subpage, and the root page should not contain any issues, serving instead as a directory for the version-specific lists and a description of the rules.) They include not only known bugs, but also newly discovered ones and annoyances (which, as defined, are not bugs). Let's hold a discussion on what we think the name of Known bugs should be. I've created a few subsections, one for each name. You can add more names if you want. Voting: You may Support/Oppose as many names as you like, but may not cast more than one vote for a given name. —Immute [talk] 19:41, 4 December 2011 (UTC)

I think these are two completely separate issues:
  • The type of this page (one list of current issues or a directory of further issue lists)
  • The name of this page.
For example could this page be a directory like Immute proposed, but still be named "Issues" like MiiNiPaa supported. --Gitterrost4 20:58, 4 December 2011 (UTC)
I get what you're saying. The first issue is certainly independent of the second (plus, we've already decided on the first issue). However, I think the second issue depends on the first, since the name of a page should depend on its use. Nevertheless, I agree that Issues is a simpler name, and I don't think that it will mislead anyone into believing that they should add their issues directly to the Issues page. (It's likely that there will still be people who believe they can/should add issues directly to the root page, but they won't have been mislead on account of the page name, since they're not of the type that would read the name anyway.) I've extended my support to the name Issues as well. —Immute [talk] 23:32, 4 December 2011 (UTC)
Ok, that being clear, I will also support Issues --Gitterrost4 23:35, 4 December 2011 (UTC)

Sorry to be the spoilsport here, but I don't think this is handled in a productive way. I came here to report a problem and what I find is a red box telling me I cannot. Instead I find a discussion that does not seem overly relevant to me, esp. not at a time where a brand new release is out and there's a high likeliness this page will be useful for reports. OK, subpages for versions all fine, but a new name, why?

The page has a name the community is used to, that suits the topic and that is easily found by searching for "bug". Whether it's known bugs or not, once they are entered here they are known, so nothing wrong with that. (Hairsplitting?) On the other hand "issues" is such a generic and empty word that I personally consider that a very bad choice. Plus, no one will ever search for "issues" when reporting a bug and let's be honest not many people coming here will know what the difference between a bug and an annoyance is in the MC definition of things. So bug is the key term and nothing else and if you want a simpler name call the page "Bugs".

In short. Keep this page running as it was or split into subpages for releases. Keep this discussion open and if someone comes up with a really great name, move it there. If not who cares as long as it works. --Voxeel 09:39, 4 August 2012 (UTC)

Bugs can always redirect to Issues, but your opinion seems to be assuming too much of what others are thinking when they search for issues or bugs. You wouldn't know unless you checked the search numbers for the terms. A generic term should be best, but it really doesn't matter. What matters is that this page is currently useless, and the system is a little unhelpful to users. So what do you think about the proposal at Minecraft Wiki talk:Community portal#Known bugs and subpages rename? --M0rphzone 19:56, 4 August 2012 (UTC)

Known bugs

Oppose. I oppose keeping the current name for the reasons I describe above. —Immute [talk] 19:41, 4 December 2011 (UTC)
Support. I don't see the described problem with that name. --Voxeel 09:39, 4 August 2012 (UTC)

Issues

 Support. I prefer Issues/Version_11w48a over Issue lists/Version 11w48aMiiNiPaaT|C 20:54, 4 December 2011 (UTC)
 Support. Nice and simple. I think Issue lists/Version 11w48a just looks a bit strange. –User:Ultradude25 (User:Ultradude25/t|User:Ultradude25/c) at 23:08, 4 December 2011 (UTC)
Valid point. Out of curiosity though, weren't we going to go with, e.g., Issues/Weekly 11w48a instead of Issues/Version 11w48a, Issues/Beta 1.9pre5 instead of Issues/Version 1.9pre5, and Issues/1.0.0 instead of Issues/Version 1.0.0 under the name change? —Immute [talk] 23:32, 4 December 2011 (UTC)
Yes, but that isn't part of what we're voting on, so I didn't bother to change it. –User:Ultradude25 (User:Ultradude25/t|User:Ultradude25/c) at 23:54, 4 December 2011 (UTC)
Support. Yeah, this one is cleaner than {{static link|Issue lists}}, and it works nicely as well. —Immute [talk] 23:32, 4 December 2011 (UTC)
 Support. Ditto --Gitterrost4 23:35, 4 December 2011 (UTC)
Support. Simple, short and clean. This page should describe what is an issue and links to all sub pages. And, all other names of this page should anyway redirect to the chosen one. — DjDCH (talk) 19:49, 12 December 2011 (UTC)
Support. This seems to classify bugs and annoyances the best. The important thing is that Jeb can easily see the list and address them. -Jesse V, Utah State University 129.123.212.134 17:54, 13 December 2011 (UTC)
 Support. Yep --Cycloneblaze(user - talk) 17:28, 3 March 2012 (UTC)
Support rename to "Issues", and the development versions should use /Snapshot xxwxx instead of version xxwxx. - Asterick6 (talk) 01:23, 15 June 2012 (UTC)
Support. Using one word instead of two also simplifies things a bit. --M0rphzone 23:48, 3 August 2012 (UTC)
Oppose. Generic, empty, not accessible for search and common key words. --Voxeel 09:39, 4 August 2012 (UTC)
You do realize that the redirect from bugs to this page can be updated right? Of course it's accessible from the search bar. --M0rphzone 23:13, 17 August 2012 (UTC)
Support. Using "Issue Lists" looks weird, and the page includes more than just bugs now. — Cool12309 (talk) 07:34, 11 August 2012 (UTC)

Issue lists

Support. I like this one, since it reenforces the folder/directory-like nature of the root page. The main page holds a collections of issue lists, not a collection of issues, and it is not in and of itself a single issue list. —Immute [talk] 19:41, 4 December 2011 (UTC)
Oppose. Generic, empty, not accessible for search and common key words. --Voxeel 09:39, 4 August 2012 (UTC)

List of Bugs

Support. The pages are really a list of bugs. Why not just name it that?

75.118.73.118 02:14, 27 February 2012 (UTC)

Oppose. If there are bugs there are usually more than just one, so the list doesn't add any additional value. --Voxeel 09:39, 4 August 2012 (UTC)

Possible Bugs

Support. It's just a lot of bugs, some may be not correct because someone used mods, so it's possible, not known.Cube1234567890 11:16, 19 May 2012 (UTC)
Support. People may have used mods or the "bug" may be inconsistent with users. Therefore, all bugs should be deemed "possible", not "known. --SnipahKitteh---"wanna play some haaaaa-looooooo???" 04:35, 29 June 2012 (UTC)
Support. Here I do see the point. But again. Do we need this sort of classification? Why not just bugs? And what is possible is also known, usually. --Voxeel 09:39, 4 August 2012 (UTC)

Item selected in toolbar not saving

The game no longer remembers which item you were holding when you last quit the world, defaulting to slot #1 when the world is reloaded. Just noticed this in version 11w49a, didn't happen in any previous version AFAIK. Enomai 02:22, 14 December 2011 (UTC)

I've never known Minecraft to remember which item I was holding; world reloading has always defaulted me to slot #1. When I start playing immediately after logging in, I've occasionally noticed that I actually am holding whatever item I was last, then after a split second I'm back to slot #1. I play on a laptop, so the slower rendering time allows me to notice stuff like that. Euridicus 23:10, 14 December 2011 (UTC)

@Enomai, this has always happened with me. For as long as I can remember, Minecraft has always defaulted to slot 1 in the belt. @Euridicus, same. I mostly play on a craptop rented out by my school. If I play in creative mode and use, say, sponge for example, then switch to my main survival, I see that I'm holding it for about a second until the world renders. --SnipahKitteh---"wanna play some haaaaa-looooooo???" 04:41, 29 June 2012 (UTC)

This also happens after usage of a portal, and I have seen it happen since 1.7.3, when I first started playing. Pokechu22 03:38, 17 July 2012 (UTC)

Sound problem

When I go into my options menu to select [on] for sound it crashes my Minecraft. I have uninstalled & reinstalled it many times. It is a legit copy & I have used MC Patcher several times. I am updated to the latest version & it still will not let me click to turn [on] the sound without crashing. Please any suggestions, or if you've had similar problems & what you have tried to do to correct it would be much appreciated :(

Normal arm upon death

When you die, your skinned arm will turn default after a laps of seconds.

Tested smp, cmp, ssp, csp with both 1.1 and 1.2.Maxum 01:33, 5 March 2012 (UTC)

This happens with the whole skin, if you jump off a cliff and open your inventory, you will see the skin switch back.

Mushrooms and Huge Mushrooms not working in 1.2.4 and 1.2.5 Single Player, survival or creative mode

I can't plant mushrooms outside (without a roof and partial walls) in single player survival or creative mode. Light level doesn't seem to matter and time of day doesn't seem to matter. Also, I cannot grow huge mushrooms with bone meal on the surface, even when I have built a structure that allowed me to plant a mushroom. Nether Roof

People are still able to walk and build on the nether roof. They have multiple methods of getting on top. The easiest quick fix would be to damage anyone above 128 in the nether. –Preceding unsigned comment was added by 76.68.123.180 (Talk) 18:14, 24 April 2012. Please sign your posts with ~~~~

  • Why? If people like to build there, I don't think this should be removed. IMHO the bedrock floor could be just removed or pushed to y=256. Lvxferre 20:36, 1 June 2012 (UTC)

SP Far Lands Glitch

While I was trying to fly to the far lands on the seed 'Artomix' , I checked to see how far I had gone (by clicking F3). I was at about 9000 blocks, and I noticed the seed had changed completely. I couldn't recreate it.

I'm running Windows 7. Can any of you recreate it? Or had the same problem? –Preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.183.232.28 (Talk) 14:49, 3 June 2012. Please sign your posts with ~~~~

I believe that the world generation algorithim changes the actual seed. It has nothing to do with the far lands. I noticed this once when I created a world with a seed called "Romeo, wherefore art thou?" (we had just started Romeo and Juliet in Language Arts). When I looked to check the FPS when the lag got plain stupid, the seed had changed to about -9 billion something. On an unrelated note, weren't the farlands removed in beta? --SnipahKitteh---"wanna play some haaaaa-looooooo???" 04:50, 29 June 2012 (UTC)

That's correct. The Far Lands were accidentally removed by Notch in the Beta 1.8 update, though some of the weird effects from the Far Lands remain. return_0 14:06, 24 July 2012 (UTC)

Minecraft cannot use strings as seeds, so it converts them into numbers. Thats why you saw a bunch of random numbers.MinerGuy667 05:32, 1 August 2012 (UTC)

This is purely due to lag. Adjust the video settings, close other programs, and upgrade your java. For the settings I reccomend, smooth lighting off, render distance short or tiny, view bobbing off, graphics fast, 3D analaglyph off, and performance max FPS. --SnipahKitteh---"wanna play some haaaaa-looooooo???" 04:54, 29 June 2012 (UTC)

Can't eat!

I have a very annoying bug on hand. In singleplayer (both survival and creative) I can't eat.I have tried updating minecraft. I have tried deleting and redownloading minecraft. I have tried downloading 64 bit java. Nothing works. I also have the technic launcher and originally I could eat on that, but now the bug has jumped to the launcher too. Please help! You can't eat when your hunger bar is already full. It never goes down in creative mode, or on peaceful difficulty. -- Orthotope 22:07, 5 August 2012 (UTC)
Gosh, I'm an idiot... I think that this bug actually happened to me... probably the singleplayer commands mod messing up my minecraft account... but the rest of the times after I deleted and redownloaded minecraft, it was just me being impatient and forgetting that you can't eat when your hunger bar is full when I was testing it! Thanks for reminding me, my minecraft account is fully functional now! :)

frozen mobs

this bug happens a lot in survival mode when i die from a mob sometimes a big hole opens in the ground and i fall through the world.

after that almost every mob is frozen! for example a ghast it would be frozen (not moving) but his legs would be still moving!

enderman: you attack them they don't turn red or their hurt clip wont play you can go through them and their jaws will open. {{static link|File:2012-08-12_11.51.28}}

Hoe Shovel

I'm currently having issues with my hoes (ain't we all...?). When I try to till the land, the hoe just acts like a shovel and digs up the area, so I can't make farm land. I am new to the game, but I don't see anything, anywhere, that explains how to use a hoe beyond, point and click. So if it's me that's doing it wrong, I apologise for this post.

I am currently playing in SP, survival mode, with large biomes option, and am in a snowy region.

If you need any other details to diagnose the problem, or if you are also having the same problem, please respond ASAP, that I can get back toy you with my details.
