Some new initiatives coming

Once we have completed the migration of MCW to Gamepedia, Curse is starting some new initiatives for all of our wiki communities. Some things that you can look forward to are contests and giveaways for editors, as well as more rewards for our committed admin teams!

Along with these rewards we are also setting up better lines of communications between Curse and the admin teams, which will include periodic newsletters to let you know what is happening, not only on MCW, but across the Gamepedia network.

To be included in these reward programs, and our communications, we need to make sure we have current contact information, email addresses, as well as snail mail addresses (so we can send you the cool swag). So... Any of you wishing to participate, please email me at wynthyst"at"gmail.com with your info, and I will get our list updated. I PROMISE we will never share or sell this information, and you can opt out at any time. For those of you who provided contact information for our last thank you gift, I still have it, I just need to know if anything has changed.

You guys rock! I know we don't say it enough, but we think it every day. I can't imagine what MCW would be like without ALL of you and your hard work and dedication to making this THE place to get information on all things Minecraft! -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 12:07, 11 August 2013 (UTC)

Language Links

Hi there,

There are a lot of protected pages on the english wiki, and that's good, but it's kind of annoying that we can't add language links to the other wikis, will there be a solution for this in the future that we can edit the language links without editing the entire page?

-- TheWombatGuru t | c NL Admin 11:53, 12 August 2013 (UTC)

Make a list here of the pages that need language links, and one of the admins of the English wiki will get them added (or I will do it myself). -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 12:43, 12 August 2013 (UTC)
That's nice of you/admins but not very efficient, can't you/someone else add a feature to the wiki like it is on wikipedia? -- TheWombatGuru t | c NL Admin 13:01, 12 August 2013 (UTC)
Wikipedia uses several specialized usergroups for some functions purely based on the immense size of the project. As a small gaming wiki, we don't have those same needs. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 15:34, 12 August 2013 (UTC)
He might be referring to wikidata. Their language links are kept in a centralised location instead of on each wikipage. I don't know if there's the ability to have your own local data storage though. Wikipedia's is a separate site that other sites can pull data from, like wikimedia commons. We could of course use that, but it would be more convenient if it was a separate storage just for MCW. ultradude25Talk

Spam Users (NL)

Since we migrated to Gamepedia we noticed a lot of new (english) users who keeps spamming. Of course the filter fix and block it all, but still. Is there a way to fix the new users problem, the cat thing looks compromised? - CrazyBliep NL Admin 06:54, 24 September 2013 (UTC)

Universal bans

It just dawned on me that I should share this bit of information with all of you... should have done it awhile ago, I just didn't think of it.

With the migration to the Gamepedia platform, blocks on any of the Minecraft wiki are now universal. Please make sure you are using your ban tools responsibly, and DO NOT PERMA BAN. This especially includes the abuse filters. NONE of the filters should be set to blocking users. Abuse filter bans are permanent bans and are now in place universally on the Gamepedia network. Thanks! -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 19:04, 21 October 2013 (UTC)

With the 1.7 update planned for this coming Friday, I just want to remind admins to be on their toes, and online as much as possible. Changes requested for Russian wiki

Since I'm new here, I didn't want to step on any toes and just make changes without getting some sort of approval/concensus on process. Ivan r has requested a promotion to bureaucrat on the Russian wiki for himself and GreenStone, citing that the existing bureaucrat has left (and indeed, I see no contributions from that user - HEKP0H - since February 8, 2014). He has also asked about creating new user access level groups (something else I am not familiar with that is used here, so perhaps one of you could answer him, or let me know how you'd like to proceed.) — Game widow (talk) 15:53, 30 June 2014 (UTC)

Ivan-r may not be a good candidate for a bureaucrat (on some occasions, his usage of admin tools such as blocking users and deleting pages was incorrect and had to be reverted). In February, HEKP0H said something about returning to the wiki some time later, but at the moment he cannot be contacted with. Ivan-r and I are probably the only active admins at the moment.
The new access level groups request is related to a failed project. Most (if not all) of the users which supported this project are no longer active. I do not think we need any new user rights groups at the moment. --GreenStone (talk) 16:28, 30 June 2014 (UTC)
Thanks GreenStone! — Game widow (talk) 20:48, 30 June 2014 (UTC)
Given that there has been no chorus of outcries against your promotion, I'll grant you bureaucrat rights on the Russian wiki. — Game widow (talk) 21:37, 8 July 2014 (UTC)

Update of the -Sprite templates

Hello there!

Can someone update the BlockSprite, the ItemSprite and the EffectSprite template on the Dutch wiki, because, to be honest, I don't really know how to update them.

Some details: BlockSprite needs more numbers, ItemSprite has a so called 'Scriptfout' (a.k.a. Script error I think) and EffectSprite looks like a spampage because all the numbers are missing.

Greetings, --DarkShadowTNT (talk) 14:29, 17 August 2015 (UTC)

You've got quite a mix of old and new templates there... you should really be keeping related templates using similar versions. Your problem with the ItemSprite template is nothing to do with it, instead it's because you're trying to use the documentation module (which you're mixing with old documentation pages, so it wouldn't have worked properly anyway), while not having the DPL extension installed. Halloween lay-out Dutch Minecraft Wiki

Am I allowed to change the lay-out of the Dutch Minecraft Wiki to a Halloween theme? Because if I'm allowed to do that, then I have to change some links on the Hydra.ccs of the Wiki (instead of "mincraft.gamepedia.com" (the Wiki where the image is stored) "minecraft-nl.gamepedia.com"). Also, before you are going to ask if I have permission to do this: I'm currently the only active admin on that Wiki, but that doesn't means I'm going to do it without permission of some other admins, Curse staff etc. --DarkShadowTNT NL Admin (tc) 19:34, 19 October 2015 (UTC)

While I don't speak for Curse staff, my opinion is that as long as the community there is fine with it, there shouldn't be a problem with doing that. (and for the Curse staff angle... Majr?) ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 06:24, 20 October 2015 (UTC)

This talk page

This should be an obvious question... but what is this talk page for? Is it just a place for directors to talk about stuff that they don't want others to comment on? If this is the case, then I definitely think this should be mentioned on the top of the page to prevent confusion. Or is this simply like all other talk pages, a place to solely discuss the MCW:Directors page? If that's true, then I see absolutely no reason that the page needs to be directors-only protected.-- Madminecrafter12Orange Glazed TerracottaTalk to meLight Blue Glazed Terracotta 14:09, 29 May 2018 (UTC)

The Minecraft Wiki Directors is made up of administrators from all of the language sites.

This page and its talk page is to facilitate communication between them and allow all of the various language sites to work in sync with each other.

Non-directors can request changes to this page, suggest topics of discussion, or comment on current discussions, on the admin noticeboard.

That being said, this discussion page hasn't really been used for some time (I want to say years, but didn't bother checking the archives to confirm if it ever had significantly more activity than is evident from the unarchived discussions here); probably the community portal and/or admin noticeboard should be preferred venues for discussion now. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 20:23, 29 May 2018 (UTC)
