This page is intended to list tasks that are requested to be done on this wiki, and eventually have a good overview of things that still need to be done.
You can create a new task by using the /task
template.
You may assign yourself to tasks at any time; only assign others if you see them actively working on them.
Tasks
Bulk page tasks
For these tasks a lot of pages need to be edited in a repetitive manner. Where needed, use MCW:Quick reference page as a page guide.
Make template order consistent[bulk-page, clean up]
Move infoboxes, message boxes and hatnotes (about, main, for, disambig etc) into that order according to style guide where needed (see example)

- Is there any way to easily find such pages, actually? FVbico (talk) 07:42, 20 May 2019 (UTC)
- I'm not experienced in using the "insource" search method. In those cases where it's not feasible to use it, this kind of tasks might need all pages to manually be checked in a predetermined order (for at least some managability). But in this case you might be able to decrease to total count down to just those that are using any of the mentioned templates (use whatlinkshere), if you can't search for related pages. – Jack McKalling [ ] 13:43, 20 May 2019 (UTC)
Comment out red links on talk pages and talk page archives to stop them from appearing on Special:WantedPages[bulk-page, clean up]
Some of these may either require admin permissions or page unprotection.
- Unassigned User-12316399 again, as they're clearly no longer working on this. FVbico (talk) 07:42, 20 May 2019 (UTC)
Correct and simplify technical parts of pages[bulk-page, clean up, corrections]
- Move all particle images to the official/updated names (following the ID)
- Make usage of "id",
"name id", "data values" etc. consistent; callstring IDs "Namespaced ID"; if it refers to non-namespaced instances and they are saved to file, then call it "Savegame ID", number IDs "Numeric ID", NBT "Block/Item/Entity data", and the numeric data (damage, block data, etc.) "Metadata"
- All /ID pages should have the table headers corrected. FVbico (talk) 00:34, January 21 2019 (UTC)
- Should we actually use "Namespaced ID" instead of "Name ID", in light of the corresponding page? FVbico (talk) 07:42, 20 May 2019 (UTC)
- Go ahead, good idea. – Jack McKalling [ ] 13:43, 20 May 2019 (UTC)
- Alright, I should be mostly done with changing things to Namespaced ID now. FVbico (talk) 09:06, 21 May 2019 (UTC)
Wiki-wide maintenance jobs[bulk-page, corrections]
- Correct interwiki lists by sorting and testing (if page exists) all interwiki links in mainspace where needed
- Replace
<code></code>
with{{code|}}
. (List of pages that still use<code>
)- Keep cases of braced code, as the there required nowiki tag would make it needlessly more verbose:
<code>{ ... { ...}}</code>
↛{{code|<nowiki>{ ... { ...}}</nowiki>}}
- Keep cases of braced code, as the there required nowiki tag would make it needlessly more verbose:
- Replace content article occurances of
[[#...]]
with proper{{slink||...}}
section links. (List of pages that still use the #links)
This task is unassigned
- Is there any way to easily find such pages with the interwiki links, actually? FVbico (talk) 07:42, 20 May 2019 (UTC)
- Maybe a bot could aggregate all interwiki links from our mainspace, dump them on a test page on the actual interwiki they point to, and convert them into actual local links. Then you can easily see if they become red. But that's only part of the problem, they also could be checked for relevance (like do they still link to the correct page). I don't know how to do this or if it's possible. If all else fails, one very tedious approach would be combing through mcw:Quick reference page. – Jack McKalling [ ] 13:43, 20 May 2019 (UTC)
Correct capitalization of game elements[bulk-page, corrections]
- Enchantment and effect references should always be title case
- Make all biome links lowercased that are within a sentence, but keep capitalized biome links that are a header (e.g. snapshot subsection of "additions"/"changes") or the sole contents of a table cell
Put the lead sections of update release pages in the right tense[bulk-page, cleanup]
Awaiting discussion on the com portal.- For example: Java Edition 1.14. "1.14, the first release of (update name), is a major update to Java Edition released on (date), which adds (...)", see discussion. There has been consensus on which tense should be used, and we need to make all version pages consistent in their perspective.

- This task has become part of a new project: MCW:VC, which is about cleaning up version articles. The instructions of the project regarding this task has assumed consensus from the discussion, so no need to wait anymore. I updated the task description appropriately. Some progress has already been tracked, but there is a huge amount of pages that still need to be processed and tracked. Not sure if this task is still needed separately, but lets leave it just for now. – Jack McKalling [ ] 14:31, 13 August 2019 (UTC)
Add 1.15 transparency changes.[missing information]
We're missing all 1.15 transparency changes (block items no longer allow it, neither do paintings, shulker heads, etc.), these should all be added to the history sections.

Move all IDs to an ID section.[bulk-page]
Make Template:ID table unused, it's only used on pages to list the blocks that generate (it seems), this shouldn't need to list IDs. (WhatLinksHere and the redirect)Replace Template:ID table with a table with the fields Name, Namespaced ID, Numeric ID, Block tags, Item tags and Has item form, with only Name and Namespaced ID required.- Convert existing pages to use this template.
- Add the section to every other page which has IDs, but doesn't use an ID section yet.
- Remove the infobox fields id, nameid, entityid and tags.
Correct blast resistance values.[bulk-page, corrections]
Change blast resistance values/calculations in articles to use the same values as decompiled source code, instead of multiplying them by 5. Alternatively where applicable, change hardcoded blast resistance values to use {{blast resistance values}}
(which has the correct values) instead.
Files
Move all block, entity and item renders to the revision system (JEN BEN)[bulk page, clean up]
1. Move all outdated forms and texture update files to Revision N.
2. Move the non-revision version of the objects to revision files and leave a redirect.
3. Update all usages of the files to refer to Revision N, EXCEPT when it has to show the latest revision (eg history VS infobox).
4. Make all revisions of an object inherit a table from Revision 1 that contains links to all revisions and the versions it existed in.
5. If a new revision is added, add it to the list, and make the non-revision redirect to that.
Project page: MCW:Projects/Texture Update Cleanup.

Mainspace pages
Create the missing Java Edition guides pages for older versions such as the 1.12.x and 1.11.x updates.[wanted pages]
These pages require a lot of information aggregation from existing release pages, collecting all of the added and changed content, and related useful (but compact) information about it. See the existing guides on the main page for how it should look.

Reorganize the addons page[clean up]
Hey folks! We are rapidly outgrowing the "addons" page for Bedrock as the scripting stuff doesn't really fit under that anymore since those are part of the modding API and not add-ons specifically. As we expand the scripting engine and MoLang, we have more documentation for it but I thought maybe we'd want to reorganize things before we put in more.

NBT data has no documentation at all[missing info]
NBT data does exist in bedrock edition, but (basically) all documentation for it is missing.

Official pages
Go through all edition specific information, and add it to Official pages/Parity issue list.
The parity issue list is supposed to list all differences between bedrock and java, which means all their edition specific information, thus going through these categories and adding everything should be done. (also make them link to the parity issue list)

- I still need to learn how to make block renders in order to add to InvSprite FVbico (talk) 08:32, 5 December 2018 (UTC)
- For the 300px sprites, download blender, download the file on the mcw:renders page, select the block side texture from under image→source, click render→image, then image→save as image. – Nixinova 02:10, 21 January 2019 (UTC)

Templates
Fix all templates to use <includeonly> (correctly)[bulk-page, correction]
- I'm not sure if I agree with this task; on some templates like Template:Mojangsta notice it would be useful to display the template so users can see what it looks like before using it. Though if we consistently showed the template output in the documentation, it might be fine. –Sonicwave talk 02:26, 23 April 2020 (UTC)
These guides are made by Jjlrjjlr. They summarize all additions and changes of all minor releases of a major update in a simplified, visual way. They would do very well with a nav box similar to {{version nav}}
, such as "Template:Guide nav", so you can navigate between them while you're on one. I'm thinking it should for instance contain:
- The name/link of the game edition the guide is for (so far there's only Java Edition guides)
- The official name/link to the parent update page (such as Update Aquatic)
- A list of links to all the relevant releases that the guide covers, similar to the "Development versions" heading of the version nav, but only list full releases (for example for the Update Aquatic guide, this would be 1.13, 1.13.1 and 1.13.2) preferrably automated if possible
- An arrow link to the previous guide, and one for the next guide, if they exist (just like the "prev" and "next" parameters of the version nav)
- Done:
{{Guide nav}}
. – Nixinova 06:34, 2 June 2019 (UTC)- Could you or someone also please add documentation for it? I'd like the doc to specify that only releases may be added to the nav box that have been processed into the guide. This makes those links also double for "what version was this last updated for". Maybe rename the caption also to "Affected" or "Related" releases/versions instead. – Jack McKalling [ ] 20:52, 3 June 2019 (UTC)
Add documentation to ALL templates.[wanted page]
Modify the sprite system to generate documentation at runtime, client-side (with JS)[templates]
The documentation for InvSprites (and potentially, large mod sprites on non-English wikis) otherwise exceeds performance limits and stops working, even though the template itself is functional (i. e. sprites can still be used in pages).
Thoughts on implementation: a module calling loadData
on the sprite data module, encoding the data to JSON. A JS function that makes an API request to action=parse
with an #invoke
of this module and scrapes the returned HTML for the JSON. (May need to have the module place the JSON text in pre
tags and escape all less-than signs with \u003c
- for JSON, they are only valid when within strings.)
- Assigned dark, he seems to be preparing tests on the nl wiki in their namespace. FVbico (talk) 18:33, 15 January 2020 (UTC)
- All done. See #wiki of the Minecraft Wiki and this GitHub repository for the code that it uses. On the topic of implementation - the module indeed passes JSON to the JS upon receiving an API call with a function specifically made for the job. Instead of putting the data on the page itself, it is stored inside the script itself, whereafter the script generates the documentation out of it. Classes, headings and the like behave like usual, it's just the back-end which is different. A compromise I did have to make, however, is that it is now no longer possible to disable the sprite editor without disabling the script which creates the documentation as well. The rationale I used for that is that you don't have to use it even if it's loaded. —DarkShadowTNT (t ♦ c) 02:34, 21 January 2020 (UTC)
Update the documentation of many infobox templates, as several are extremely outdated.
Categorize templates and modules[Templates]
Many templates (such as {{Sound table}}
as of the time of writing) and modules are not categorized, making it hard to find them. This is not limited to templates shown on Special:UncategorizedTemplates, since some templates are automatically put into giant categories such as this, but no others.
- Assigned myself for now, though I might not work on this consistently. –Sonicwave talk 04:23, 23 April 2020 (UTC)
This page
Improve this page for accessibility so others could mass-use it too if they want[improvements, clean up]
- Add universal categorization for tasks (in the form of headings) that would help find tasks by type or some other criteria
- Improve the heading text... a lot, it really needs to be extended, and more professional
- Add a script to hide certain requests; like MediaWiki:Gadget-togglePatrollerRequests.js
- If possible, hide depending on category too

- Added /task, documentation should be added soon. Feel free to extend it. FVbico (talk) 10:58, 5 February 2019 (UTC)
- "Add universal categorization for tasks (in the form of headings) that would help find tasks by type or some other criteria" Isn't the current way this page is divided into headings fine already?
- "Eventually move this page, when its purpose gets wiki-wide and this page is more properly formatted, to mcw:Pending tasks" suggested on the talk page now.
- "Improve the heading text... a lot, it really needs to be extended, and more professional" This may actually happen once the page is moved, I'm not good at this. FVbico (talk) 07:47, 20 May 2019 (UTC)
- For the headings, I had in mind to define them in such a way that the set of them covers all possibilities in a useful distinction. I can't explain that right now, I'll get back on this later. – Jack McKalling [ ] 11:34, 2 October 2019 (UTC)
