Revert Vandals

There's a team of editors abusing the undo button, go here to see them! –Preceding unsigned comment was added by Macaronimaster50 (talkcontribs) at 17:41, 1 January 2020 (UTC). Please sign your posts with ~~~~

Actually mind reading the editor notes? The update was NOT focused on bug fixes; the main focus was the bees, and all their related objects. You reverted a removed edit 3 times, without any actual reasoning, and started threatening. If you actually look at who reverted the edits, you'd know you're literally fighting against 1 wiki admin and 2 of the most active editors on this wiki... FVbico (talk) 17:46, 1 January 2020 (UTC)
I know what the edit notes say, but those are lies, 'cause if you look at what the update is about (I don't really mean look at the tile, I mean look at the contents of the update), you'll see they're wrong! --Macaronimaster50 (talk) 01:37, 2 January 2020 (UTC)

You really think, you with only a habdful of edits, know better than an admin and 2 of the most active users on the wiki? Mojang has made it clear the focus was bees, not bugs. You're jumping to conclusions based on the sice of the fix list, while they're about the same size for every update. FVbico (talk) 11:06, 2 January 2020 (UTC)

Launcher beta versions not updated fast enough

I've seen some admin or something say Minecraft versions usually update on the main page within one day, however I don't see this with the beta versions of the launcher. I understand that this could be because you first manually have to change version and then within a day the page updates. If this is the case, automatically updating the versions would be good. Anyway, today the latest beta version is Launcher 2.1.1083x. 185.253.97.145 16:54, 8 January 2020 (UTC)

New Category: Tables

A category page should be made called "Tables" or similar containing crafting tables, furnaces, brewing stands, enchanting tables, looms, smokers, cartography tables etc.–Preceding unsigned comment was added by 138.118.82.173 (talk) at 18:23, 5 March 2020 (UTC). Please sign your posts with ~~~~

I'm not necessarily opposed, but I would like to note that we already have Category:Utility blocks which serves a similar purpose but is slightly broader. I presume what would define pages that belong in this category are blocks that allow players to store or modify items (which is true for all the blocks you listed), but I'm not sure "Tables" would be the most accurate name for such a category. I would definitely be open to other opinions.--Madminecrafter12 (Talk to me | View what I've done) 18:30, 5 March 2020 (UTC)
Maybe it's not that a bad idea if the category has a good definition, but I don't think this category should be called "Tables", and I honestly can't pick a better name. --AttemptToCallNil (report bug, view backtrace) 19:22, 5 March 2020 (UTC)
I typically call them "Crafting blocks" or "Recipe blocks", as they are blocks that allow you to perform recipes. KnightMiner · (t) 01:25, 6 March 2020 (UTC)

youtu.be url blocked by spam filter

Trying to put shortened youtube.com link youtu.be as reference will prevent edit. 194.34.132.139 18:05, 16 January 2020 (UTC)

This restriction is pulled from Wikimedia's spam blacklist, where it is needed to avoid bypassing blacklists on Wikimedia wikis. As such, the youtu.be shortcut will remain in that list, as has been stated repeatedly. Removing the dependency on that blacklist is not a good idea as many entries there are not wanted. However, it should be possible to add youtu.be to the local whitelist, but I'm not sure it's an appropriate course of action. --AttemptToCallNil (report bug, view backtrace) 18:39, 16 January 2020 (UTC)

Template:License Mojang

Hi, could someone please fix the License Mojang template? The page is locked and can only be edited by administrators. The template categorizes images, but not other files. I think that it could work if someone activated the prepared option. – TenGoblinek (talk) 10:26, 15 March 2020 (UTC)

It does categorize all files. If you view the source, you will see that it chooses the category based on the file extension. It categorizes imageas as Mojang images, and other files as Mojang files.

The "Java Edition Infdev 20100617-1" page is a mislabeling.

The page Java Edition Infdev 20100617-1 [ https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Java_Edition_Infdev_20100617-1 ] is a mislabeling. The version is actually 20100617-2. A 20100617-1 never existed. Clicking on the download link brings you to 20100617-2. This is likely an oversight when the page was created. So this page needs to be renamed to 20100617-2. –Preceding unsigned comment was added by ThreeLui (talkcontribs) at 7:33, 28 November 2019 (UTC). Please sign your posts with ~~~~

Automatic filter blocks articles in other languages

I have created a page for the Swedish translation project, but when I tried to publish it, the automatic filter blocked it because it contained "an unwanted word". The translation isn't completely finished, so either the "unwanted word" comes from the original English version, or the filter simply blocks normal Swedish words. It would be nice if some changes to the filter could be made; perhaps it could recognize the language the page is written in and adapt the "unwanted word" list to that specific language? 1–Preceding unsigned comment was added by En programmerare (talkcontribs) at 11:31, 23 March 2020 (UTC). Please sign your posts with ~~~~

As you probably guessed, your edit was caught in a filter that is designed to prevent vandalism but occasionally runs into false positives. Since your edit was obviously constructive, I've gone ahead and created the page for you. The thing about the filter is a lot of the words listed there are not only blocked if they stand on their own but also if they're contained within another word, which is often the source of false positives with this filter. Us admins, when we add new words to the filter, consider whether that word might be used inside of another English word and if so add it to a different category of the filter (where only standalone words are detected and blocked) or just not at all; however, it's difficult to check to see if that word could potentially be used in any foreign language. I'm guessing a Swedish word in any part of the article happened to contain a disallowed word in the filter which caused your edit to be blocked. Unfortunately I don't think there's a way to determine what exact word it was that triggered it except by reading every word of the article and comparing it manually (which I'm definitely too lazy to do right now :P). However, it might not be a bad idea in general to make the filter not act at all on translation pages, as I doubt they're likely to be vandalized frequently (since they're buried so deep into the wiki). Sorry for the trouble and thanks for letting us know about this.--Madminecrafter12 (Talk to me | View what I've done) 13:28, 23 March 2020 (UTC)--Madminecrafter12 (Talk to me | View what I've done) 13:28, 23 March 2020 (UTC)

Main Page Demo Link

The word "demo" on the main page links to the Java Edition demo, but shouldn't it link to the wiki article instead? Java is not the only edition with demo, and there's an article on this wiki, so there really is no reason to link to minecraft.net instead of the wiki page.-77.247.178.183 15:33, 27 March 2020 (UTC)

Do you mean the demo link in the second paragraph of "About Minecraft"? The context of that paragraph should be enough to suggest that the Java Edition demo is what's being referred to, but I agree that linking the wiki article would be better (though honestly that entire intro needs cleaning up). –Sonicwave talk 16:29, 27 March 2020 (UTC)

Consecutive disruptive edits on Java Edition version history/Development versions

Anonymous user(s) have been repeatedly adding 1.16 pre1 to the Java Edition version history/Development versions page, despite several reversions and requests to stop. Latest is User:1.252.188.164 Cultist O (talk) 01:42, 4 April 2020 (UTC)

I blocked them for 2 months, since they have disruptively edited before (and been blocked for it). I have no objections if another admin wants to protect the page, though I suspect all of the disruption is from the same user using multiple IPs. –Sonicwave talk 01:48, 4 April 2020 (UTC)
As you can see here, this vandal has gone at it for quite some time. There's not much way to stop them beside just continuously blocking them when they appear (since it's from a variety of IPs, not just all in one range) unless we protect all new version pages (or any page they edit at all), which I doubt would be worth it. For this particular case, they haven't targeted the Development versions page much in general recently but in the last few days they have vandalized it quite frequently. Since there have also been a few constructive edits from IPs in that time, though, I'd say wait for now but protect for a week or so if they vandalize one more time.--Madminecrafter12 (Talk to me | View what I've done) 02:38, 4 April 2020 (UTC)

Please temporarily suspend a user to get him to stop mass-editing pages without agreement

This user is mass-editing pages: https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/UserProfile:User-12316399
Apparently this has gone on for months already. One of the most common things is creating a nonsensical "occurrence" section to block pages that is pretty arbitrarily separated from the "obtaining" section.
The person was asked to take note of a discussion about this here: https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/User_talk:User-12316399#Block_articles_and_section_structure
In that discussion there was definitely no agreement in favour of this edit, quite the opposite, almost everyone was clearly against it. Yet the person keeps doing it. I posted on the talk page, the user page (a feature called "comment", no idea if that notifies the person) and on that discussion, yet, the person keeps doing these mass-edits without even replying.
I have also reverted a bunch of these edits, but that also didn't seem to give the person a hint. They didn't immediately revert that again, but sometimes came back to the same page later and did the same edit again.
I suspect that this user has removed all relevant pages from their watchlist, disabled mails or something like that. So I ask you to please disable edits on articles for that person until they finally notice something and stop these edits until the discussion is done (or ideally just stop completely, but that's just my opinion). Fabian42 (talk) 19:18, 11 April 2020 (UTC)

You seem to be operating on the false principle that not replying to something automatically means that said thing hasn't been acknowledged at all. I also hadn't changed a single page back to the Occurrence layout since you posted on my talk page, so the fact that you've just immediately jumped from a talk page post to advocating for a full-out block is outright excessive and a borderline Rule #3 violation. Your assertion on an Occurrence section being nonsensical and arbitrary is also itself nonsensical, and there had been no opposition to the inclusion of the section whatsoever since my reply on the talk page five months ago, and nobody has opposed the subsequent inclusion of it on articles except for yourself. Please at least read into and participate in the relevant conversations before advocating for a user to have their editing rights revoked simply because you don't like the changes that they make. - User-12316399 (talk) 17:40, 12 April 2020 (UTC)
I agree that it was irresponsible to go about these mass changes without a consensus. You can't just ignore valid opposition just because you personally disagree with it and then say that because a few people supported it on Discord it can be added to the style guide. However, he hasn't made any further changes regarding this topic since you warned him on his talk page so I doubt a block would be necessary at this point. I've reverted the changes made to the style guide without consensus, but I'm not sure what to do with the actual pages themselves; should we take the time to revert each one or wait some more to see how the discussion plays out?--Madminecrafter12 (Talk to me | View what I've done) 19:08, 13 April 2020 (UTC)
Bit of an older discussion, I know, but it's worth noting that both the Occurrence section and the loot table template have been decided against and should be removed. -PancakeIdentity (talk) 02:26, 8 May 2020 (UTC)

(edit conflict) We generally use page titles that comply with the current version, rather than the development version, so we do have such a page, it's just located at Zombie Pigman. We also have zombified piglin redirecting to it, which is the new name of the mob in 1.16. However, for some reason zombie piglin is not a redirect even though it's a likely search term, so I'll create that right now. Can someone fix that for me? Plaba123 (talk) 01:21, 17 April 2020 (UTC)

You don't need to be an admin to edit Lodestone, the page is not protected at all. Also, I saw kind of an incosistency across some block pages in terms of the style, so Lodestone is not the only page listing such info double. ---- Elite hog (talk) 13:35, 17 April 2020 (UTC)
I've removed the duplicate section, thanks for reporting. There was a proposal to rearrange the obtaining and usage sections in a different way, which included changing the layout of the breaking section. Although this received very little support, this was carried out anyways, although I don't quite understand why it would cause the creation of two breaking sections. Generally, we don't link to other Minecraft wikis. The BlobsPaper 16:47, 21 April 2020 (UTC)
What you added is very unlikely to be accurate; you can't use other wikis as a source as they are often unreliable. If you're going to make so bold of a claim as 1.16 "includes other updates that had been released in early April" (which I don't understand what that means; I've never heard of anything being released in early April and even if that were the case how is that related to the upcoming 1.16 version?), you'll need an official Mojang source. Regarding not being allowed to add the links, your edits were caught in a filter designed to prevent vandalism/spam but occasionally runs into false positives. We can't disable filters for specific people; however, we can perform the edits for you if they're productive. Also, if you create an account and make a few edits with that, you should be able to bypass most filters. Thanks, --Madminecrafter12 (Talk to me | View what I've done) 18:10, 21 April 2020 (UTC)

hi! im your friendly neighbourhood Eevee! (That's a Pokémon btw) I (who is a VERY cute Pokemon) noticed in the Blocks template in the Mineral Blocks section it shows the chiselled and pillar quarts but not smooth or brick quarts

is there a reason for this thing the cutest thing ever (that's me btw) noticed this? thanks! 31.50.129.9 18:12, 24 April 2020 (UTC)

Fixed. Actually, the Smooth Quartz was on there before but in a different section from the rest, so I've moved it, while the Brick Quartz was never there at all. Thanks for reporting.--Madminecrafter12 (Talk to me | View what I've done) 18:46, 24 April 2020 (UTC)

I don't know if this was the right place to put this post but, I was trying to find a list of all uncraftable items. If there is one already, you can link it. I don't think there is such a page, but you can generate such a list in your sandbox. It will not leave out pages that use crafting usage since that invokes Module:Crafting directly. The BlobsPaper 01:09, 26 April 2020 (UTC)

Request ban User-12316399

This user not only makes a lot of useless contributions for a long time, but also arbitrarily changes the format of an item, adds a bloated loot table, and affects the editing habits of wiki. I personally say I can't stand his behavior and suggest that it be banned. --HlDorəmonWf(TAlK · C0NTR1BZ) 13:38, 17 April 2020 (UTC)

While there have indeed been a few times in the past where I've considered a short block on him to prevent disruption, I personally don't think a block would be necessary at this point. AFAIK the only unconstructive edits he's been warned recently about are changing the structure of the obtaining and usage sections of feature pages (to add the "bloated loot table" you say) and the style guide accordingly when there's a consensus against doing so, and "bitey" edit summaries and discussion posts (i.e. being rude / borderline attacking another editor for no reason). Both of these things I haven't seen him do at all since he's been warned, so I don't think we need to escalate to a block yet, especially given how most of his tedious maintenance edits are indeed productive.--Madminecrafter12 (Talk to me | View what I've done) 13:56, 17 April 2020 (UTC)
On the other hand, looking at this, rude edit summaries appear to still be a problem. A new user who had never edited before made a good faith edit to an article which they thought was constructive, but because it was false, he reverts them just a few minutes later with a very sarcastic and bitey summary. Like I've said he's been warned many times about this in the past, so I'm not sure the best way to control this without a block. It's not just about blatant personal attacks; it's also about just generally sarcastic or rude edit summaries that are directed at specific editors making this an unpleasant environment, especially when it involves new editors like here.--Madminecrafter12 (Talk to me | View what I've done) 14:02, 17 April 2020 (UTC)
How about delete User-12316399's mean edit summaries? 195.181.167.195 03:18, 19 April 2020 (UTC)
An edit summary being "mean" alone isn't a valid reason to use revision delete, but I have already deleted the ones that are actually personal attacks (which to be fair most of them haven't been pure attacks, but rather rude, sarcastic, and bitey summaries, which although are concerning, especially against newer good faith editors, not a valid reason to hide the summary completely).--Madminecrafter12 (Talk to me | View what I've done) 14:13, 19 April 2020 (UTC)
Bit of an older discussion, I know, but it's worth noting that both the Occurrence section and the loot table template have been decided against and should be removed. -PancakeIdentity (talk) 02:26, 8 May 2020 (UTC)

Redirect for Programmer Art?

Should there be a redirect from Programmer Art to the corresponding page? I don't know how to make one or where it would go to, but I think it would make sense. Thank you. 67.169.100.106 15:53, 23 April 2020 (UTC)

There's not currently any page related to the definition I know of Programmer Art (which is basically sketches of a program a programmer creates to test functionality but not to perfect in any way) and since it's not necessarily Minecraft-specific nor particularly important to Minecraft I doubt there would be a need to create one.--Madminecrafter12 (Talk to me | View what I've done) 15:58, 23 April 2020 (UTC)
I mean the pre-Texture Update resource pack, bundled with every version since that update. 67.169.100.106 16:08, 23 April 2020 (UTC)
Well, the Texture Update page lists all the old textures as well. Is Programmer Art the official name of the textures before the update or at least a common alternate name? I don't think it would be, but I could certainly be wrong.--Madminecrafter12 (Talk to me | View what I've done) 16:11, 23 April 2020 (UTC)
Check the resource pack menu in 1.14 and newer. It shows "Default" and "Programmer Art", which is described as "The classic look of Minecraft". 67.169.100.106 16:15, 23 April 2020 (UTC)
I see, thanks. I probably should've done my research before making assumptions. :D
We don't have a page specifically for the old textures or resource pack, but since it's mentioned in Texture Update I've gone ahead and redirected it there, as well as the "Classic Textures" that it's called in Bedrock Edition. The redirects could be a bit confusing considering the texture update is actually their exact opposite, but of all the pages we have it's probably the most appropiate page to redirect it to (and I don't see a reason to split the old textures into their own page).--Madminecrafter12 (Talk to me | View what I've done) 16:21, 23 April 2020 (UTC)

Coral Fans redlink

Please fix the redlink by recreating the redirect Coral Fans to Coral fans. 49.228.176.243 09:55, 15 May 2020 (UTC)

There is no reason for such a redirect to exist, since the Coral Fan page will just appear as you start typing Coral Fans. Honestly, I am not sure why we have the Coral fans redirect. The BlobsPaper 15:51, 15 May 2020 (UTC)
Well, the search suggestions take a minute to show up, so it's not true that they will appear immediately when you start typing Coral Fans. The redirect also useful for linking; it's impractical to go through every single edit made by anyone to make sure they use the format Coral fans instead of Coral fans (and for all other items with potential plural forms). Furthermore, redirects are absolutely harmless; they take up barely any space and they don't clutter the search bar because the "actual main page" takes priority when searching, making any redirects to that page that are in a similar format not show up at all. In addition, the current style guide allows any alternate capitalization or form, meaning that both Coral Fans and Coral fans would be valid redirects. Citing existing rules/guidelines as I did isn't a reason for supporting/opposing a proposal, but that's not the purpose of this particular discussion.
The redirect was actually created as Coral Fans initially, but moved to Coral fans (which is not an appropriate way of deleting or creating redirects, as it makes the edit histories confusing).--Madminecrafter12 (Talk to me | View what I've done) 16:26, 15 May 2020 (UTC)

Go to the sprite template in question (such as Template:InvSprite) and click "Edit sprite", right next to the normal edit button. All the sprites are organized into categories below; you can add one by clicking "New image" in the sprite-editing toolbar. When you're done, click save. Do you mean add an icon for a specific sprite? If so, we've already answered that; just edit the sprite and click "New image" and Blobs explained how you create the image itself to begin with. If you're talking about a whole new sprite sheet, I'm not sure exactly why we'd need one. Please elaborate on what you mean by "new sprite image", as what I thought you meant by that doesn't seem to be what you're referring to.--Madminecrafter12 (Talk to me | View what I've done) 16:59, 20 May 2020 (UTC)

Unfortunately, we can't disable filters for certain people; and since this is one of only a few cases where such a word could be used constructively, it doesn't make sense to remove the filter completely. However, if you run into a problem like this again, do let us know here, and we can certainly perform the edit for you. Editing Talk:Minecraft Wiki (section)

I can't edit in the Talk section of a page. I sincerely don't appreciate it. I'm not using a VPN, nor a proxy. I'm getting this error:

Error: Your action has been disallowed by an automated edit filter. A brief description of the matched rule(s) for your action is: Extra protection for frequent spam targets

Thanks for checking. --Jahus (talk) 14:08, 27 June 2020 (UTC)

The filter was implemented because ordinary protection has pretty much just two modes: 1) stop unregistered users only; 2) stop everyone but administrators. The page used to get a lot of edits (and looking at the filter's logs, still gets some every now and then) from new accounts that aren't appropriate for that page. While the talk page is intended solely to discuss the main page itself (which is, admittedly, what you were doing), people use it as a help desk, suggestions platform for Mojang, or a place to post of promotional material, gibberish, or non-English text.
Your edit causing a false positive activation of the edit filter is unfortunate (especially for someone's first experience). I implemented a warning notice specifically for that page, but I'm not certain all editors will see it.
As for your comment itself, I'm not sure the RTX beta from Xbox Insider would be a good fit for the main page given it's not even a "mainstream" development version. The combat test snapshots aren't there either, so I guess a discussion could be started for whether to include them. --AttemptToCallNil (report bug, view backtrace) 14:53, 27 June 2020 (UTC)
