Wait, almost 9 months of misinformation (if not more), and neither a block nor a final warning? And a 1 month block is thought to be able to stop him (i. e. for a longer time than the block's duration)? Is there absolutely any reason not to go straight to a long-term block?

Can confirm that the user in question continues to add unsourced information. He's been warned multiple times on this on his talk page (I even told him how to contribute properly to feature discussion without angering other editors) but he persists. Latency of the administrators

The user CreeperFan2015 had to be blocked for his actions a long half-of-a-year ago. But only now did the administrators react. On the other hand, they paid attention to other harmful, block-worthy users and responded in kind. Here comes the question: How did administrators not react to the user for months? I've always wondered if the reason their not seeing it is because it's at the top of the page, and not at the bottom (where they check?). The worst case scenario being that CreeperFan2015 may be related to one of the admins (I doubt it, but it's an interesting and scary thought). -75.179.18.235 15:35, 26 June 2016 (UTC)
Apologies for not blocking the user earlier, I personally didn't see the request until I saw the revived discussion in the recent changes feed. Because the content of user profiles is saved in your preferences, it bypasses the spam filters as well as such things as the URL blacklist. In addition, admins don't have any way of removing spammy or abusive content from a profile - we can ask a user to do so themselves, and block them if they refuse, but that's the extent of it. Autoblock should be blocking the IPs used to create the accounts, but they're probably using a botnet or proxies to get around that; only Curse staff have the checkuser right to see IP addresses. I'm a bit frustrated that Curse developed and pushed out the profile system without appearing to consider its spam/abuse potential. The only real solution I see is to have profile edits go through the spam and abuse filters, and give admins the ability to edit or delete profiles and comments. Until that can be implemented, I wouldn't mind having account creation disabled temporarily. -- Orthotopetalk 20:53, 5 January 2016 (UTC)
Sorry to speak out of turn, just happened to be wondering around the pages, and I could not help noticing the checkuser related comment above. Clearly that would help a lot here, and also at other times... This may be info you guys already have, but it is my understanding that from a "legal" point of view on any wiki if the "admins" were / are willing to provide their real world names and details to the owner of that wiki then there is no reason (from a legal point of view) why the owner of that wiki should not grant "admins" checkuser rights. These spammers (or this type of spammer) is prevalent across a lot of sites. I know I've seen tons of them on reddit (I used to try and deal with it - they create subreddits which also don't really get spam filtered properly; same kind of whack a mole there), and I've also seen them post spam on gameinformer and on some abandoned jira bugtracker (mostly so that they can link to it without getting caught in other spam filters...). At least I see that the profile links have rel="nofollow" set. I've sent out an email about the implementation issue with user profiles, so hopefully something can be done about it.
They have random IPs and user agents, so I would assume it's a botnet. Since you can probably still edit your preferences while blocked, there's probably not much point to even blocking them, as they could just edit their profile again. –Majr ᐸ Talk

Blacklisting "HD" seems likely to have a lot of false positives. At least Curse did change things to let admins edit profiles and delete comments, so we can get rid of the spam links. A lot of it appears intended to boost a site's search engine rankings by having a popular, reputable site (i.e., the Minecraft wiki) link to it. -- Orthotopetalk 02:32, 14 January 2016 (UTC)
I'm not sure if it would make sense for this to be an SEO issue - as I previously mentioned, those links have "[1]" set on them, which should deincentivize it. Range block.

IPs with bold lettering have been blocked before.

For the past five months, these IPs have been edit warring with several editors over vandalism and unexplained changes on Minecraft 1.0 and 1.0.0. They just started up again today. -BDJP (t|c) 14:26, 31 January 2016 (UTC)

Looks like a dynamic IP address, assuming this is the same person; only one has ever been active at any given time. Blocking that entire range (71.3.136.0/21) would affect some 2,000 other addresses as well. Unless someone is actively changing IPs to get around blocks, that would be a lot of collateral damage to cause. -- Orthotopetalk 21:09, 31 January 2016 (UTC)
A few examples of when the IP's evaded blocks:
  1. 71.3.137.17 was blocked for a month on September 12, 2015 for vandalism. Two IPs in particular (71.3.142.187 and 71.3.139.214) edited within that month-long time frame.
  2. 71.3.139.139 was blocked for a month on November 21, 2015 for vandalism as well. One IP, 71.3.139.144, edited within that month-long time frame.
  3. 71.3.137.126 was blocked for 3 months on June 30, 2016 for abusing multiple accounts. So far, two IPs, 71.3.140.57 amd 71.3.136.71, have edited within the 3 month long time frame. -BDJP (t|c) 03:22, 3 February 2016 (UTC)

Current issues post-update

I wasn't sure where to post this, but I felt like this was the best place to do so, hopefully so MCWiki Administrators as well as Curse and Gamepedia staff can hopefully fix them.

Anyway, there appears to be some issues from the update to the latest version of MediaWiki, which include (and hopefully, limited to):

  1. Everything with Wii U in it either has a red link or does not show up properly. Some examples are the main page and the OS template.
  2. Pardon my language here, but the notification area looks like it got f**ked up by an explosion. Saying that I have over 99 notifications as well as one "talk page" notification.

  1. number-id can not be use in "Link" templates like these: ({{BlockLink|id=1}}), ({{EntityLink|id=5}}).

  1. Gamepedia's bottom bar on short pages covers the sidebar.
  2. 'Save draft'-button sometimes doesn't know where it belongs (when the editor doesn't load completely, it is on the right place, but when the editor does load completely, it is somewhere else).
  3. Infoboxes are too far down.
  4. When viewing a preview, text at the right top does a </br> for no reason, even if there is enough space.

Note: This is tested in Mozilla Firefox, most recent version. Both the Dutch and the English Minecraft Wiki have those problems, and I think all the other MCW's too.

Issues with :nl:Template:Inventory slot

As title says, we have issues with Template:Invetory slot and every template that has somehow a connection with it on the Dutch Minecraft Wiki. It still shows the name from the items that are on it and the grid from e.g. the Crafting Table, but not the items that are on it. I tried to update every module of it, but it still says no. The problem is that you're still using :nl:Template:Grid in your crafting tables, but have removed the styling for it. InvSlot has its own separate styling. –Majr ᐸ Talk

There are some spammers around that advertise mobile phone usage with pages over 5000 bytes and long titles in English. I cannot keep an eye on the recent changes forever, because I have some other stuff to do too. I've imported one of our filters which usually catches that sort of spam. Also, you should never infinite block IPs as they are most likely botnets, and will result in legitimate users across gamepedia not being able to edit. –Majr ᐸ Talk

 Done (redirected the Grids to the newer template version of them) It was probably better to redirect them. Didn't thought of it when deleting those Grid-templates. I just wanted to fix the newer template variants. By bringing it up before they have edited, you're making it an issue. Their name wouldn't have been seen again once it moves off the recent changes. I'm not actually sure what to do about so called "inappropriate" names. It's certainly pushing the bounds of good taste, but not quite as outright obscene as some of the accounts that have been blocked. My inclination is to allow borderline cases, as long as they aren't making any disruptive edits. Toggling mobile view does not work anymore

Since Gamepedia has been updated to MediaWiki 1.26, it is not possible anymore to toggle the mobile view, so you cannot view the desktop version of the wiki on mobile phones, and vice-versa. | violine1101(Talk) 22:06, 7 February 2016 (UTC)

Additionally, {{escaped link|MediaWiki:Notification-header-profile-comment}} has a parameter $3 inside of it, but this parameter is not set by the comment extension (On the German wiki, I simply removed the link. Another user stated that this link with $3 inside would look like User:User:Violine1101). Also, at Special:Notifications, there is a double pipe-separator in the "description" of a profile comment notification. And it uses a wrong icon (heart, it should rather be a speech bubble or a talk icon or something like this).

Issues... Once again, this time with :nl:Sjabloon:Reflist

It's me again, this time with a very annoying issue. It looks like :nl:Sjabloon:Reflist is partially working, and allows overflow with long links and long comments (and when using {{Reflist|2}} or more with pretty long links). It works fine on this Wiki (English) because it breaks up the comment and link, but not on ours. I tried to deal with it via the CSS way (note: my own CSS before I break the site) and updating the source code from the template itself. Nothing worked and it still overflows. VisualEditor not conforming to Minecraft_Wiki:Style_guide#Linking

Hello all; maybe there's an easy answer to this, maybe there's not. I've noticed that editors who use VisualEditor will often end up creating links like {{escaped link|Creeper|creepers}} rather than {{escaped link|creeper}}s. Could you update the Directors group in general please? Many users who are in it aren't administrators anymore (for example LukiGamer, who does not own the sysop rights anymore since 2012) and many users who are administrators aren't in the Directors group (see #New administrator), including my humble self. I've added director to everyone listed on the directors page when I could find an account matching the name listed there, but there were several that don't seem to exist; it's probably high time to review the status of everyone listed there and update things as appropriate (and find out what's going on in the case of inactive admins/bureaucrats and demote them/promote replacements as needed). I also removed director from LukiGamer; if it's not too much trouble, could you list other users with director who are no longer admins/bureaucrats (you can find a full list of accounts with director here)? LukiGamer was the only German user affected, hence I mentioned him. I have however a custom css which highlights all admins and bureaucrats. Following users in the directors group list aren't highlighted:
Archomeda, DoranM, KunaiFire, LeGrund, Pochi33, Promaster6304, Ruansvrn324, STSc, Scaler6902 (= Scaler4?), Shahter100256 (= Shahter40?), Skyhi14, Szneqz, Tarne12081, Tomato5768, TunSha (= TunSha4?), Zelos666.

Orthotope most likely checked your Contributions page (Special:Contributions/Robinhoodn64) and saw no entries about uploading a file.
Try it this way and see if it works:
  1. go to a page with a File: prefix, like File:Robinhoodn64s_Great_New_Image.png, and it will bring you to an 'Upload file' page because it's an image that's not on the wiki yet.
  2. Use the browse button to upload your image from your PC,
  3. Type a filename to be used on the wiki, add a summary of what's in the image, and select a license (probably the last entry if it's a screenshot of your own creation in Scratch, or one of the Minecraft license entries if it's a screenshot of Minecraft, or uses their textures), and then
  4. hit the Upload button.
If there's any error message, please copy-paste it here.
On another note – your signature ought to have your username and a link to a profile page, like User:Robinhoodn64 (see Minecraft_Wiki:Talk_page_guidelines). This is so people know who it is that's talking, and what time you said it. "!!! Because of profile spam accounts, it was recently changed so that you need to meet a minimum threshold before you can post comments on profiles. Unfortunately, though, it seems that some editors who meet that threshold are still restricted from posting comments; in this case, you should get in contact with Curse staff.
