Minecraft Wiki Admin noticeboard
Shortcuts

The admin noticeboard is one way through which users can notify administrators of issues needing administrative attention. While users are welcome to directly contact specific administrators (especially if they are seen to be active), posting here can be an easier and quicker way of ensuring that at least one admin will notice an issue and respond to it promptly. Remember to sign (using four tildes: ~~~~) when posting an issue.

Before posting an issue here, please consider the following:

  • This page is for reporting wiki issues. Please post any discussions on the community portal talk page.
  • Post only issues that require administrative action, i.e. blocking vandals, protecting pages, restoring deleted pages etc.
  • Do not post deletion requests here; instead, the page should be tagged for deletion.
  • Do not post issues regarding content disputes. Try making a request for comment instead.
  • Mediation requests between users should only be made once a resolution could not be reached between users.
  • For issues regarding the use of this wiki, please see our help center.
  • For issues with filters preventing edits from being saved: filters are not able to be disabled for specific people. However, an admin may be able to perform the edit themselves for you. "New user" filters expire after you log in and make some edits around the wiki.

Table of slscool

In case of vandalism, posting about it here is low priority. Revert it first, anyone can do so. If the vandal created a new page, tag it for speedy deletion. Assume good faith and consider leaving a message on that user's talk page to explain the reason. Post here only if the user has made several disruptive edits and/or persists despite a warning. Always avoid a revert war with the vandal; it is far better to wait until an admin has a chance to intervene.

If a user must be reported here, do not create a new section. Instead, add * {{vandal|Example user}} Your concise reason (e.g. vandalised past 4th warning). ~~~~ in the Block requests section.

If a protection or unprotection request must be requested here, do not create a new section. Instead, add * {{la|Example page}} '''duration (temporary or indefinite) and protection level''': Your concise reason (e.g. constant spam and vandalism). <nowiki>~~~~ in the Protection requests section.

Please post new topics at the bottom of the page by clicking the "add topic" button above.

Re-protecting Undead page from IP edits

Page protection on Undead page expired and was almost immediately met with the same repetitive vandalism from the same person. Unfortunately they've been doing this to a bunch of other pages, though Undead in particular is a primary focus and will likely need to be re-protected. Original request. @Minecraft Redstoning: The abuse filter tends to be harsh on new users (to protect against spam accounts); once your account is 3 days old and you've made 10 edits it will ease up. In the meantime you could make small edits (that don't include links and the like). -Sonicwave (talk|c) 03:40, 16 November 2016 (UTC)

Please stop using all caps and making demands. It's rude. Harassing people is explicitly against the rules, as well, and repeatedly doing it is **definitely** a good reason for a block.
The word is "unnecessary".
No-one on the wiki can "change your IP". Your IP address is an indication of where your computer or phone is on the internet at any given time; it's assigned by internet service providers. If you want to use the IP address 173.215.216.190 (there is no reason anyone should care about this, by the way), you have to go back to that same computer or device, at that same location, and hope that the numbers weren't re-assigned in the meantime. There is no guarantee. See also wikipedia:IP_address Sealbudsman talk/contr 21:24, 26 November 2016 (UTC)

Hardness information in infobox is gone

As the title says, the hardness information in the infobox for blocks is gone. It was usually always there, but since, as far as I know, it is gone since at least today, right at the moment when I needed it to create a mod... :P What happened to it? —DarkShadowTNT NL Admin (tc) 21:11, 26 November 2016 (UTC)

It looks like it was removed back in July after some discussion on the talk page. Not entirely sure I agree with removal of the field, but that's why it was removed. It looks like Hardness redirects to a table with the same values (though, I'm not sure how up-to-date it is).
Though if you're writing a mod, the information is available on blocks themselves (Block.getBlockHardness() exists, though it's deprecated; there's some IBlockProperties method that you can use to get it as well (which should work with a block state)). This isn't the best place to talk about that though. --Pokechu22 (talk) 21:29, 26 November 2016 (UTC)
It was removed because it's already on the page. Look at the table to the left of the infobox on any block page. MajrTalk

Edit not allowed on Painting

I was trying to edit the Painting article since I spotted a statement intended to be fact that was inaccurate. Here is the original:

A painting of the main character of the classic Atari game International Karate (the Karateka character had white hair, this one clearly has black hair) fighting a large hand. It could also be interpreted as the two hands touching as seen in Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel painting. This is also in Super Smash Bros (SSB for short) A fighter fighting the Master Hand.

The concern here is "This is also in Super Smash Bros (SSB for short) A fighter fighting the Master Hand" which is a similarity, but has no evidence supporting it. I tried to Remove it, but was not allowed to. Here is the message I recieved when I tried to save the page:

Your action has been automatically identified as harmful, and therefore disallowed. A brief description of the matched abuse rule for your action is: Global AF - New user adding link at end or in heading If you believe your edit was constructive, please post a message on the admin noticeboard or notify an admin directly

If you believe that my change was not constructive I would be happy to accept that, but I believe the automated system is mistaken.

As I was here I also changed a small part about the Skull on Fire painting, but I removed this and tried again so I don't think it matters. If the summary is able to change the result, here is the summary I wrote:

Removed statement that the Pointer painting is related to Super Smash Bros. Added information about the Skull in painting Skull on Fire being set in Minecraft

This is my first time editing a page, so maybe I made a mistake. –Preceding unsigned comment was added by Camersauce (talkcontribs) at 23:57, 30 November 2016 (UTC). Please sign your posts with ~~~~

Trying to add Console Edition info

I was trying to add some new information to the End City page, due to the upcoming Console Edition update. More specifically, I was trying to update the History section of the page, and found that I could not add a section labelled "Upcoming Console Edition" using the wikitext. I was reproducing the format used by the Upcoming Pocket Edition section, but it seems to not function with Upcoming Console Edition.

Where it says "console upcoming", it shows red text, as if it's the wrong format. The words "Added end cities" appears where the version should be, and nothing appears where the text "Added end cities" should be.

{{History|console upcoming - should say "Upcoming Console Edition}} {{History||xbox=TU46|xbone=CU35|wiiu=Patch 13|ps=1.38|Added end cities. - Should say version information.}} –Preceding unsigned comment was added by MrChill519 (talkcontribs) at 18:11, December 2, 2016 (UTC). @MrChill519: The Console Edition update is a little ways off, and therefore there is currently not enough details to support a change to End Cities or the Console Edition history page. Can you report bugs when anonymous? –Preceding unsigned comment was added by 173.228.205.51 (talk) at 21:55, 07 December 2016 (UTC). Please sign your posts with ~~~~
No. You have to create an account. Maethoredhel (tc) 22:00, 7 December 2016 (UTC)
Note that when creating an account, it asks for a "Full Name", but this does not actually need to be your real name. The only purpose of that field is to set a display name instead of a login name. It is completely acceptable to do this, so if that's your reason for not creating an account, you don't need to worry about it. --Pokechu22 (talk) 22:02, 7 December 2016 (UTC)

Also note that if you accidentally input your real name without having seen what Pokechu22 said, it is always changeable from your Account Settings. Therefore, having said all of this, create an account there and report the bug(s) you found. (If you found any - unclear in your original statement). Maethoredhel (tc) 22:08, 7 December 2016 (UTC)

Seriously? This is insane. I apologize for not browsing user pages in the intent of finding non-copyrighted material in order to complain on the admin noticeboard that I dislike this or that user and want him blocked... why, I don't know. Wait a minute, aren't you a random IP? What kind of user rights or privileges do you have to ask the admins to block me? Nevertheless, on what basis are you asking for a block? A silly piece of userbox content that you complain you cannot have; simply because you're too reluctant to make an account and quit badgering everyone! Perhaps, though, it's a portion of user page content that you believe violates a rule that is non-existent. I am amazed, and I do apologize to AndrewAB for not noticing that out of 274+ other people, his user page happened to look all-too-much-the-same compared to mine. Maethoredhel (tc) 01:01, 9 December 2016 (UTC)
Going further, I suspect that your comments, including the section below, may be enough to warrant me to ping Majr. I'm rather speechless as to how you went from asking me about userboxes, to going to the noticeboard in the mindset of having me blocked. Maethoredhel (tc) 01:06, 9 December 2016 (UTC)
Other than containing userboxes, I see no substantial similarity between their user pages. Reporting users here without cause is a form of harassment, prohibited by rule #3, and will lead to a block if it continues. -- Orthotopetalk 01:23, 9 December 2016 (UTC)
@Orthotope:  Resolved. Thank you for intervening. Maethoredhel (tcLogs) 03:48, 9 December 2016 (UTC)

Hi, I can't edit my user profile for some reason. I am allowed to edit other pages, but when I edit my user profile my profile still says my username profile is blank and click to edit. I am on a mobile device. It says at the bottom that my edit was a success. I can't comment either. It says I don't have permission and to make sure I have validated my email address. Try it on desktop for one thing, although I don't think it will change anything. It might because you have a small amount of edits. There's certainly no rules outlawing IPs having talk pages; there's hundreds of IP talk pages on this wiki alone (mostly just warnings and rubbish, but still). Anonymous accounts having user pages is however unconventional; ultimately if you really want to establish yourself here you should make an account, although I don't see it as a major crime myself if you can't. -Xbony2 (talk) 20:46, 26 December 2016 (UTC)

General discussion regarding Cymonah2

Hallo! I wanted to bring this page to attention as it seems to hold some importance in regards to a user we harbor. I am not by any means seeking to offend, harass, or otherwise bring down Cymonah2 (talkcontribslogsblock log), but this Wikipedia page seems to hold a great deal of importance. For reference: wp:Sockpuppet investigations/Cymonah2. It would seem that this is the same user, as the somewhat unintelligible English within their edits match that of which can be found on Wikipedia under the same name. Additionally, the case was closed only two days ago, meaning that this is all fairly recent. I have a suspicion regarding a previous user that was here on the wiki about a year ago, by the name of CreeperFan2016. The reason for this being that Cymonah2, in the History section of their userpage, states "CreeperFan2016 Now Buy The Full Game". I wish to publicly ask Cymonah2 if the Wikipedia case is indeed them, and if they have ever had any previous affiliation with the Minecraft Wiki under any username. Regards, — Maethoredhel (TalkContribsLogs) 15:42, 14 January 2017 (UTC)

Pardon the expression, but I generally feel that this editor is following a pattern of wp:Disruptive editing. I commented on his talk page with a welcome, and he afterwards blanked the page and added other things back in. Additionally, this editor has made several other unnoticed modifications to other users' talk pages, which can be verified by checking Special:Contributions/Cymonah2. — Maethoredhel (TalkContribsLogs) 16:03, 14 January 2017 (UTC)
(edit conflict) The user also uploaded three images without using them. I have marked two of them for deletion, and I should probably do the same for the third. I have put a message on their talk page, so we should wait for a response before blocking them. The BlobsPaper 16:13, 14 January 2017 (UTC)
Further evidence against him: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Cymonah2&diff=prev&oldid=750022011. There is clearly a pattern, checking this diff here on the Minecraft Wiki. — Maethoredhel (TalkContribsLogs) 16:16, 14 January 2017 (UTC)

Possible copyright violation

I was creating a new page to describe the Seed Picker, an exclusive feature of Pocket Edition that lets users create a world from pre-selected seeds obtained from user-generated content on (I think) Xbox Live. The UI displays thumbnails of the generated worlds, so I uploaded the images (which turned out to be full-size images, not thumbnails) to display in a table or gallery and marked them as Mojang-copyrighted since I uploaded them from a game folder. However, on further investigation I discovered that the game downloads these images from a Microsoft server (https://ugcorigin.s-microsoft.com), so now I'm concerned that these may be copyrighted by Microsoft instead in which case we can't use them on the wiki if I'm not mistaken. The files are:

No longer official

For a long time now, https://minecraft.net/en-us/help/ has considered this wiki an UNOFFICIAL HELP RESOURCE, but it is still labelled as an "Official Wiki" on the top left, on the Gamepedia bar. Maybe an admin and/or Curse should consider removing that, since it is kind of screwed up to trick readers into thinking this is official. OSX Plays (talk) 19:55, 31 January 2017 (UTC)

From 2011 to 2016, this wiki (along with the forums) was listed as an "official resource" at http://www.minecraft.net/community. My guess is that they changed this section during the site redesign because someone at Microsoft insisted that any site not owned and controlled by Microsoft can't be listed as 'official'. If this really bothers you that much, get a public statement from someone at Mojang about it, and then contact Curse directly; admins here can't change the Curse toolbar. -- Orthotopetalk 21:05, 31 January 2017 (UTC)

‎159.180.69.* IP Range and 198.180.187.31

There have been numerous instances of vandalism by multiple IP addresses coming from the same IP range: 159.180.69.*. The vandalism campaign started with 159.180.69.31, then 159.180.69.32 (though their only edit did contribute to the page), and finally as 159.180.69.35 (who also vandalized the same page in the same way as .31). Furthermore, there was another recent rogue edit to the Lava page by ‎198.180.187.31, which belongs to the same service provider and region as the other IP's. From this information, it seems all of these edits were made by the same user. I'd suggest a temporary ban from editing on those IP ranges. Jocopa3 (talk) 21:17, 3 February 2017 (UTC)

159.108.69.* seems to be some sort of proxy or accelerator, as there are quite a few different IPs going through it. Only 159.180.69.31 and 159.180.69.35 seem to be the same user, as they have the same IP address behind the proxy. MajrTalk

the new user filter blocks me as I was "deleting" a section, when really changing the section to include Minecraft_Wiki:Projects/Structure_Blueprints/Stronghold/Straight_Staircase in the page. So, if anyone can edit it, that be nice.

Edit warring on Renewable resource

Lots of users removing content without explanation, then removing it again after their edit is reverted. A two-week protection should solve the problem. The BlobsPaper 03:57, 22 February 2017 (UTC)

I should note here that in the specific edit which I reverted, which a user reverted back, that user was correct, I was mistaken. It was correct to remove that PE table row about the Purpur block related items, because of the 1.0 update to the game. Maybe someone can double check me on that.
However, yes there are a heck of a lot of others where nobody seems to be explaining their deletions. – Sealbudsman talk/contr 04:57, 22 February 2017 (UTC)

Yeah, stylesheet tells the sprites to use CSS to determine the image instead of setting it in the style parameter. Well, there was absolutely no reason for you to get angry over ANY of this. You simply should've just talked to an administrator (calmly) regarding why the page needs to be deleted. Heck, you clearly should've had second thoughts before posting any of this. Unfortunately, these actions by you will most likely have consequences. -BDJP (t|c) 21:22, 25 April 2017 (UTC)
That's exactly what I did on the file talk page, but absolutely nothing was done. I even once mentioned Orthotope's name on it in an effort to attract attention, but even that didn't help. :( VeenM64 (talk) 16:25, 27 April 2017 (UTC)
Alright cool your jets, everybody... Let's just put a {{delete}} tag on the File page, and call it a day.
VeenM64: all you have to do is put a {{delete}} header at the top of the page, then it goes into a queue for the admins, and someone will delete it when they do a sweep. – Sealbudsman talk/contr 21:29, 25 April 2017 (UTC)
I'm still trying to figure out why you uploaded the same file a second time instead of just moving the original one. Also, making disruptive and borderline abusive edits is not a good way to get wiki staff to do what you want. -- Orthotopetalk 07:05, 26 April 2017 (UTC)
I just wanted to start fresh with a new upload so that I could make a better image description, as well as giving it a proper Mojang license. VeenM64 (talk) 16:25, 27 April 2017 (UTC)
For future reference, you can edit a file's description (and license templates) just the same as any other page, by clicking the "Edit" tab when viewing the file's page. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 18:15, 27 April 2017 (UTC)
The duplicate image and the page have both been deleted. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 07:35, 26 April 2017 (UTC)
