Minecraft Wiki Admin noticeboard
Shortcuts

The admin noticeboard is one way through which users can notify administrators of issues needing administrative attention. While users are welcome to directly contact specific administrators (especially if they are seen to be active), posting here can be an easier and quicker way of ensuring that at least one admin will notice an issue and respond to it promptly. Remember to sign (using four tildes: ~~~~) when posting an issue.

Before posting an issue here, please consider the following:

  • This page is for reporting wiki issues. Please post any discussions on the community portal talk page.
  • Post only issues that require administrative action, i.e. blocking vandals, protecting pages, restoring deleted pages etc.
  • Do not post deletion requests here; instead, the page should be tagged for deletion.
  • Do not post issues regarding content disputes. Try making a request for comment instead.
  • Mediation requests between users should only be made once a resolution could not be reached between users.
  • For issues regarding the use of this wiki, please see our help center.
  • For issues with filters preventing edits from being saved: filters are not able to be disabled for specific people. However, an admin may be able to perform the edit themselves for you. "New user" filters expire after you log in and make some edits around the wiki.

Table of slscool

In case of vandalism, posting about it here is low priority. Revert it first, anyone can do so. If the vandal created a new page, tag it for speedy deletion. Assume good faith and consider leaving a message on that user's talk page to explain the reason. Post here only if the user has made several disruptive edits and/or persists despite a warning. Always avoid a revert war with the vandal; it is far better to wait until an admin has a chance to intervene.

If a user must be reported here, do not create a new section. Instead, add * {{vandal|Example user}} Your concise reason (e.g. vandalised past 4th warning). ~~~~ in the Block requests section.

If a protection or unprotection request must be requested here, do not create a new section. Instead, add * {{la|Example page}} '''duration (temporary or indefinite) and protection level''': Your concise reason (e.g. constant spam and vandalism). <nowiki>~~~~ in the Protection requests section.

Please post new topics at the bottom of the page by clicking the "add topic" button above.

Anonymous users and registered users alike cannot block other users without being in the Administrator group. There are several other groups that allow user blocks, but generally "administrator" is the most common. General discussion regarding Cymonah2

Hallo! I wanted to bring this page to attention as it seems to hold some importance in regards to a user we harbor. I am not by any means seeking to offend, harass, or otherwise bring down Cymonah2 (talkcontribslogsblock log), but this Wikipedia page seems to hold a great deal of importance. For reference: wp:Sockpuppet investigations/Cymonah2. It would seem that this is the same user, as the somewhat unintelligible English within their edits match that of which can be found on Wikipedia under the same name. Additionally, the case was closed only two days ago, meaning that this is all fairly recent. I have a suspicion regarding a previous user that was here on the wiki about a year ago, by the name of CreeperFan2016. The reason for this being that Cymonah2, in the History section of their userpage, states "CreeperFan2016 Now Buy The Full Game". I wish to publicly ask Cymonah2 if the Wikipedia case is indeed them, and if they have ever had any previous affiliation with the Minecraft Wiki under any username. Regards, — Maethoredhel (TalkContribsLogs) 15:42, 14 January 2017 (UTC)

Pardon the expression, but I generally feel that this editor is following a pattern of wp:Disruptive editing. I commented on his talk page with a welcome, and he afterwards blanked the page and added other things back in. Additionally, this editor has made several other unnoticed modifications to other users' talk pages, which can be verified by checking Special:Contributions/Cymonah2. — Maethoredhel (TalkContribsLogs) 16:03, 14 January 2017 (UTC)
(edit conflict) The user also uploaded three images without using them. I have marked two of them for deletion, and I should probably do the same for the third. I have put a message on their talk page, so we should wait for a response before blocking them. The BlobsPaper 16:13, 14 January 2017 (UTC)
Further evidence against him: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Cymonah2&diff=prev&oldid=750022011. There is clearly a pattern, checking this diff here on the Minecraft Wiki. — Maethoredhel (TalkContribsLogs) 16:16, 14 January 2017 (UTC)
Actually, checking the upload log, they uploaded a lot of images without using the images. The BlobsPaper 16:48, 14 January 2017 (UTC)
Might as well, they've been blocked multiple times and just continue to make useless, nonsensical edits (even when they're blocked, thanks to user profiles...). MajrTalk

Possible copyright violation

I was creating a new page to describe the Seed Picker, an exclusive feature of Pocket Edition that lets users create a world from pre-selected seeds obtained from user-generated content on (I think) Xbox Live. The UI displays thumbnails of the generated worlds, so I uploaded the images (which turned out to be full-size images, not thumbnails) to display in a table or gallery and marked them as Mojang-copyrighted since I uploaded them from a game folder. However, on further investigation I discovered that the game downloads these images from a Microsoft server (https://ugcorigin.s-microsoft.com), so now I'm concerned that these may be copyrighted by Microsoft instead in which case we can't use them on the wiki if I'm not mistaken. The files are:

No longer official

For a long time now, https://minecraft.net/en-us/help/ has considered this wiki an UNOFFICIAL HELP RESOURCE, but it is still labelled as an "Official Wiki" on the top left, on the Gamepedia bar. Maybe an admin and/or Curse should consider removing that, since it is kind of screwed up to trick readers into thinking this is official. OSX Plays (talk) 19:55, 31 January 2017 (UTC)

From 2011 to 2016, this wiki (along with the forums) was listed as an "official resource" at http://www.minecraft.net/community. My guess is that they changed this section during the site redesign because someone at Microsoft insisted that any site not owned and controlled by Microsoft can't be listed as 'official'. If this really bothers you that much, get a public statement from someone at Mojang about it, and then contact Curse directly; admins here can't change the Curse toolbar. -- Orthotopetalk 21:05, 31 January 2017 (UTC)

‎159.180.69.* IP Range and 198.180.187.31

There have been numerous instances of vandalism by multiple IP addresses coming from the same IP range: 159.180.69.*. The vandalism campaign started with 159.180.69.31, then 159.180.69.32 (though their only edit did contribute to the page), and finally as 159.180.69.35 (who also vandalized the same page in the same way as .31). Furthermore, there was another recent rogue edit to the Lava page by ‎198.180.187.31, which belongs to the same service provider and region as the other IP's. From this information, it seems all of these edits were made by the same user. I'd suggest a temporary ban from editing on those IP ranges. Jocopa3 (talk) 21:17, 3 February 2017 (UTC)

159.108.69.* seems to be some sort of proxy or accelerator, as there are quite a few different IPs going through it. Only 159.180.69.31 and 159.180.69.35 seem to be the same user, as they have the same IP address behind the proxy. MajrTalk

Abuse filter needed

Lots of unregistered users making edits like this one, which are likely people editing for the sake of editing. These edits serve no purpose and just clutter the recent changes. We need an abuse filter that prevents them. The BlobsPaper

They keep happening, like in this edit, and they only annoy recent changes patrollers. Can Majr create such a filter. The BlobsPaper 00:14, 27 April 2017 (UTC)

What is the purpose of these edits? The BlobsPaper 13:51, 4 May 2017 (UTC)
The particular edit on the World of Color page, that editor placed a space after a comma, which is correct. The two other edits reported before that, I can't guess the purpose and I do support adjusting the abuse filter if that is possible. Sealbudsman talk/contr 17:01, 4 May 2017 (UTC)
Also that second edit mentioned seems like it's a person who just wanted good readability: leaving one space above and below the header lines. Not worth someone's time to do, maybe -- but certainly not worth reverting, as it was an improvement, however small. – Sealbudsman talk/contr 18:44, 4 May 2017 (UTC)
Disagree — If the edits aren't against the rules, don't vandalize the articles, and don't amount to a DOS attack, then leave them be. They may be new users testing how the editing process works, aborted attempts at larger edits, etc. and "filtering" them may discourage people from becoming future editors. Patrolling these kinds of edits is just the (minor) cost of a wiki "anyone can edit". —munin · Grid Book and Quill Grid Stone Pickaxe · 18:35, 4 May 2017 (UTC)
Didn't think of that; good point. – Sealbudsman talk/contr 18:44, 4 May 2017 (UTC)

Adding to Stronghold Structure Blueprints

When going ahead and adding the Straight Staircase to the Minecraft_Wiki:Projects/Structure_Blueprints/Stronghold page, changing
"=== Straight Staircase === \n Work in progress!! \n //layered blueprint stuff}}"
to
"{{LoadPage|Minecraft Wiki:Projects/Structure Blueprints/Stronghold/Straight Staircase|Straight Staircase|h3}}"
the new user filter blocks me as I was "deleting" a section, when really changing the section to include Minecraft_Wiki:Projects/Structure_Blueprints/Stronghold/Straight_Staircase in the page. So, if anyone can edit it, that be nice.

Blobs2, you are taking it wrong. The Hungarian user wants to delete pages on that wiki, not the wiki itself: that would seem absurd, although the activity is quite low.
GDK555, I can’t speak for admins here, since I’m not one of them (even more, I’m not an active editor of this wiki, mostly working on the Russian one), but, if you will prove yourself as a capable and responsible participant of the Hungarian wiki who can be trusted, you may become an administrator and try to make your wiki prosper even more, although the Hungarian community is quite small. — NickTheRed37 (talk) 16:22, 18 February 2017 (UTC)

Edit warring on Renewable resource

Lots of users removing content without explanation, then removing it again after their edit is reverted. A two-week protection should solve the problem. The BlobsPaper 03:57, 22 February 2017 (UTC)

I should note here that in the specific edit which I reverted, which a user reverted back, that user was correct, I was mistaken. It was correct to remove that PE table row about the Purpur block related items, because of the 1.0 update to the game. Maybe someone can double check me on that.
However, yes there are a heck of a lot of others where nobody seems to be explaining their deletions. – Sealbudsman talk/contr 04:57, 22 February 2017 (UTC)

So now the front page doesn't have to cascade-protect Template:ItemSprite! See it at work in Minecraft_Wiki/editcopy. – Sealbudsman talk/contr 17:35, 13 April 2017 (UTC)
Yeah, stylesheet tells the sprites to use CSS to determine the image instead of setting it in the style parameter. It makes the sprite sheets a lot more efficient when there are many calls, but with how few calls there are on the main page it shouldn't be too much of an issue unless an admin wants to add the CSS for it. I'd like it to be deleted for one (surprisingly simple) reason: it's a duplicate of SmallCropFarmIsometric.png. VeenM64 (talk) 21:08, 25 April 2017 (UTC)
Well, there was absolutely no reason for you to get angry over ANY of this. You simply should've just talked to an administrator (calmly) regarding why the page needs to be deleted. Heck, you clearly should've had second thoughts before posting any of this. Unfortunately, these actions by you will most likely have consequences. -BDJP (t|c) 21:22, 25 April 2017 (UTC)

Defeating the ender dragon

In Tutorials/Defeating the ender dragon, I tried to remove all the info about using splash potions of harming - because, as it rightly says at the end of the article, "as of 1.9 [...] Splash Potions of Harming are useless".

My edit was disallowed, it says,

"An automated filter has detected that you are attempting to remove a section of this page. As a new user, your action has been disallowed. If you believe your edit was constructive, please post a message on the admin noticeboard or notify an admin directly"

Please remove all the parts that mention using harming pots. It's misleading otherwise, there's no point discussing it throughout then saying at the end that they're useless.

Thanks. 86.20.193.222 11:53, 11 May 2017 (UTC)

What is the name of the section you tried to remove? The BlobsPaper 13:58, 11 May 2017 (UTC)

"Splash Potion of Harming Pros" and "...Cons".

There are some other bits that need removing too, e.g. in "Before Entering", the bullet-point "A splash potion of Harming II (To throw at the dragon when it tries to head butt you)".

It's probably easiest to just search "harming" and you'll see all mentions.86.20.193.222 15:28, 11 May 2017 (UTC)

Done I removed the content. The BlobsPaper 22:36, 11 May 2017 (UTC)

Um, it still has 3 parts,

1. In "Before Entering" - "A splash potion of Harming II (To throw at the dragon when it tries to head butt you)"

2. In "Managing the Dragon" - "Cons" - "... quickly throw your Splash Potion of Harming at it. "

and 3rd, I see no point now in the "Notice" - "The Dragon does not head butt anymore as of 1.9, meaning Splash Potions of Harming are useless."

(I still can't do that myself, because it complains about removing a section again)

Thanks for your attention. 86.20.193.222 02:40, 12 May 2017 (UTC)

(BTW, the dragon seems totally immune to Splash Harm, from testing I did earlier today. That's why I kinda wanted to get this fixed, so others don't waste time/die nastily by trying to use them ) 86.20.193.222 02:45, 12 May 2017 (UTC)

The notice section is still useful because it indicates that you should not use potion of harming. I have removed the other items.
Also, I am not sure why it said you were trying to remove a section because it detects whether you are removing a section header. The BlobsPaper 13:52, 12 May 2017 (UTC)
Thanks.
I don't know why it wouldn't let me, but that's the message I got.
As far as I can tell, the dragon is immune to all potions. Presumably, that means tipped arrows too. If that's true, it'd be useful to add that somewhere on the wiki - it's not an easy thing to find out. 86.20.193.222 19:49, 12 May 2017 (UTC)

Freeing up Version template

For:

... I'm going to make copied versions:

  • Module:Version front page/Numbers, Module:Version front page and {{Version front page}}

... to free up that whole thing from its cascade restriction – the same idea as previously with {{ItemSprite}}, discussed in this topic.

It won't solve the issue with people clamoring for someone to update the front page, but it will help for updating Minecraft, Pocket Edition, Console Edition and Minecraft launcher (and probably a few others). – Sealbudsman talk/contr 15:19, 3 June 2017 (UTC)

As an alternative to having two near-identical templates that have to be kept in sync, we could change the main page to directors-only protection. -- Orthotopetalk 17:59, 3 June 2017 (UTC)
We could do that. We could also eliminate the front-page-template entirely by embedding the respective variables in the front page, I think. – Sealbudsman talk/contr 19:16, 3 June 2017 (UTC)
Because the front page was late being updated, I was researching how it worked when I ran across your updated Template:Version doc saying it wasn't used on the front page...yet it very clearly was in use there. Color me confused! I almost put a note on Majr's talk page in case it was by accident. So I'm guessing I caught it while you were in the middle of coordinated changes. If so, could you please leave a note here to say when you've completed it? Thanks! – Auldrick (talk · contribs) 18:41, 3 June 2017 (UTC)
I forgot to mention: The front page still shows 1.1 in the Planned Versions table. I'm not sure who needs to update that. – Auldrick (talk · contribs) 18:44, 3 June 2017 (UTC)
Oh my, sorry for the confusion. – Sealbudsman talk/contr 19:16, 3 June 2017 (UTC)
I'm not sure adding a separate template for that is a good idea given it is for the most part only used on the front page, and the other few places tend to be fine waiting a bit for the update. The front page gets the most questions waiting for the update anyways.
I think removing the cascading protection is a decent option, though an extra close watch on main page templates would have to be kept. KnightMiner · (t) 22:06, 3 June 2017 (UTC)
Directly on the page are: {{Version}}, {{FrontPageLink}}, Minecraft Wiki/edition and Minecraft Wiki/style.
Protection cascades further to: Module:Version, Module:Version/Numbers, Module:FrontPageSprite, Module:FrontPageSprite/IDs.
If cascade was removed, we could heighten permission on Template:FrontPageLink, module:FrontPageSprite and /IDs, and /edition and /style, and I think that's all. Then only other thing to keep track of would be Template:Version, Module:Version and Module:Version/Numbers. – Sealbudsman talk/contr 22:29, 3 June 2017 (UTC)
Would a good idea be semi-protecting the remainder? From what I've seen so far here anonymous users don't make good edits to templates often, if they even get to them. --Hubry (talk) 22:37, 3 June 2017 (UTC)
I doubt that creating a duplicate template for the front page will solve anything because most users who complain about updating the version numbers complain only because the version numbers on the front page aren't updated. And Module:Version front page/Numbers still would need to be edited by admins. | violine1101(Talk) 08:30, 4 June 2017 (UTC)
Ideas so far

To allow more people to update the versions on the front page, we could:

  • change the protection to directors.

And if we want to free up the Version template, instead of using a duplicate template, we could do one of two things:

  • remove cascade from the main page, raise the protections on other transcludes and semi-protect the version template, or
  • hard-code the variables in the page. (rendering the Version template mostly redundant)

Any thoughts? – Sealbudsman talk/contr 15:48, 4 June 2017 (UTC)

We could have an edit copy for the template, which would be semi-protected and used on the edit copy for the main page. The BlobsPaper 03:27, 5 June 2017 (UTC)
As far as I know, the only place where the current version numbers are actually used are the Edition pages (Minecraft, Pocket Edition, Console Edition etc). Using hard-coded variables would make the template pretty much redundant, wouldn't it? | violine1101(Talk) 09:39, 5 June 2017 (UTC)
