A woodland mansion is a massive systematically-generated structure found in dark forests, often far away from the world spawn point. A mansion is inhabited by evokers, vindicators and allays, and is one of the only places where a totem of undying can be obtained. Besides illagers, a mansion's interior lighting is sufficiently low for other Overworld monsters to spawn. Woodland mansions can only spawn every 20,000 to 10,000 blocks. Some seeds allow mansions to spawn at 1000 - 300 blocks away (1 in 10 million chance of finding one closer than 1000 blocks)

Generation[]

Woodland mansions typically generate thousands of blocks from the spawn point. They can be located with woodland explorer maps, which are obtained from cartographer villagers, but a map may not always point to the nearest one. The nearest woodland mansion may also be located via the /locate structure mansion command enabled by cheats.

A woodland mansion naturally generates vindicators, evokers, and allays inside the mansion, but because the entrance is open and most rooms in the woodland mansion are dark, Overworld monsters sometimes spawn in these rooms or come in through the entrance at night.

The first floor of the mansion may only generate rooms that contain vindicators; from the second floor upward, some large rooms may contain both evokers and vindicators. Neither type of illager spawns directly in the hallways of the mansion, but they often wander into the hallways after spawning in.

Once any of the vindicators or evokers are killed in a woodland mansion, they do not respawn, unlike pillagers, who respawn when all of them are killed in a pillager outpost.

Structure[]

Although their exact structure varies, all woodland mansions have some things in common: they all have three floors with a variety of rooms, and generate a cobblestone foundation underneath the entire structure if there are any gaps between the bottom of the mansion and the ground. The top floor is about half the size of the lower floors, but the size of each top floor is pretty random for each mansion, depending on how many rooms are going to be generated on the top floor. Each mansion includes a large foyer that leads to the corridors connecting the rooms, a giant staircase also generates there, which leads up to the second floor. The foyer is dark and many hostile mobs spawn under the staircase.

Rooms[]

A woodland mansion contains many types of rooms. Because the layout is randomly generated, some room types may not be present. Furthermore, certain rooms within the mansion are not readily accessible – some may have sealed entrances, while secret rooms have no entrances at all.

One may access the individual structures of a woodland mansion by using structure blocks to manually load room structures from the /data/minecraft/structures/woodland_mansion folder in minecraft.jar. To do so, set a structure block to Load mode, enter woodland_mansion/structure_name, and press LOAD. A list of possible rooms, the names of these structures, and small descriptions are provided in the table below. Note that the room names are conjectural.

Main and secret rooms[]

A woodland mansion can sometimes generate secret rooms on each floor. A secret room can be one of the following type: "X" room, spider room, fake end portal room, obsidian room, birch pillar room, clean chest room, lava room, and attic room, with the 'X" room being the most common, and the "lava" room being the rarest. A way to look for a secret room is looking for gaps between normal rooms, this way is the best on the first floor, as there are no windows. Another way is looking through the windows through the second and third floors of the mansion, since some secret rooms are exposed to windows. A last way to look for a secret room is cutting down the roof, which works best for the third floor alone. Then you can see any secret rooms from the roof of the floor, as the whole floor's layout.

In the table below, a structure block indicates either a chest with random loot, or the spawn point of an illager.

Similar to how a [[carrot on a stick]] is used to control [[pig]]s, the [[player]]s can use a warped fungus on a stick to control a [[strider]]. To do this, the player simply holds the [[item]] in one hand and any nearby striders within view is attracted toward the player. If mounted on a [[saddle]]d strider, the strider moves in the direction the player is facing while holding the warped fungus on a stick. Right clicking with the item makes the strider go faster, but reduces the item's durability by 1 for every speed boost. If the item durability reaches 0, it turns into a fishing rod.

Due to a strider's ability to walk on [[lava]], this is a beneficial [[tools|tool]] for using striders as a safe transport across [[the Nether]]'s terrain, which is otherwise considered difficult to traverse.

The camera can be obtained in the [[Creative inventory]] in ''Minecraft Education''. It can be obtained either by NBT editors, inventory editors, or glitches in Bedrock Edition.

To get the block form of the camera in Bedrock Edition using an NBT editor, you need to set the item name of the block in the inventory slot (<code>name:</code> ) to <code>item.camera</code>, then you need to add a compound tag called <code>Block</code> and inside of that put the int tag <code>version: 18040335</code> and the text tag <code>name: minecraft:camera</code> into the block compound tag. For the usable "[[spawn egg]]" form of the camera, you only need to set the item name of the block in the inventory slot (<code>name:</code> ) to <code>camera</code>; you do not need to add the block compound for this form of the camera.

Using a camera from the [[inventory]] captures a first-person screenshot. It can also be placed, creating a camera [[entity]] that can track the user, and take pictures from the camera's perspective. Photos that are taken using the camera appear in the [[portfolio]].

Close-up snapshots of an [[item]] on the ground can be taken by holding the Shift key while right-clicking.

Photos that are taken with the camera block are stored in <code>%localappdata%\Packages\MinecraftUWP_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState\screenshots</code>.

* A camera prevents a [[Book and Quill]] from working. Attempting to craft it or obtain it by commands gives a regular book instead, due to non-implementation of photo attaching to written books.
* The camera can take a screenshot, which appears a bit smaller with a thick paper outline having cuts on its edges, making it look like an old photograph.

Brewing stands need [[blaze powder]] as fuel. Each piece brews 20 batches of potions, with each stage of brewing counting separately. Unlike [[furnace]]s, there is no time limit; fuel is consumed only when there are [[Glass Bottle|bottles]] and an ingredient to brew into it.

Brewing stands interact with [[hopper]]s as follows:

* They accept brewing ingredients from hoppers pointing down into the top.
* Any valid potion recipe can be preloaded for "hands-free" brewing of a complex recipe, with the [[Nether Wart|nether wart]] falling through into the stand for the first step.
* Bottles and fuel are accepted from hoppers pointing into the side.
* Finished products can be pulled out by hoppers below, but each stage of brewing counts as a batch of "finished" potions.

Trivia[]

  • Woodland mansions were added as a way to implement illagers, the main antagonists of the then-developing game Minecraft Dungeons, into the base game of Minecraft, providing them with a place to live.[5]
  • Woodland mansions were intended to be inhabited by more hostile mobs following their release, according to the blog post Meet the Vindicator.[6] No new hostile mobs were added to woodland mansions since then.
    • The blog post was likely alluding to the illusioner, an illager that was added in the World of Color update, but ended up not being implemented in woodland mansions (or anywhere in Survival gameplay).
