Redirect from ru-section[]

Hello, Wynthyst, there is strange problem on Russian section: wiki tryes to redirect any requests to minecraftforum.net, so http://ru.minecraftwiki.net/Special:RecentChanges turns into http://www.minecraftforum.net/Special:RecentChanges (certainly, page shows forum content). However, the wiki content occasionally becomes available, but with wrong theme. We are looking for answer and fix to this issue, if you can help. Norrius - Ru Admin 20:56, 2 July 2012 (UTC)

Now it seems to be ok. Too bad I can't explain that. And I can't give you a link, it was just something like change of URI then I tried to open page on wiki. Redirect from ru.minecraftwiki.net to minecraftforum.net (I've checked other language sections and found nothing unusial). Anyway, since this trouble spontaneously disappeeared, the question may be considered closed. Norrius - Ru Admin 23:13, 2 July 2012 (UTC)

I just came across the idea of removing any outdated posts on talk pages, i.e. posts about bugs that are already fixed, or posts that dont have a comment from, lets say, a year ago at least. Missing article on Hungarian Wiki[]

Hi, I'm Hungarian Wiki admin Icguy. I have a problem, there's the Crafting page on the Hungarian wiki (link), which disappeared without a trace. When clicking on the link an error message shows up saying (rough translation):

"The page "Crafting" could not be found in the database. In most cases the reason is that you clicked on a link that points to a page that has been deleted. If not so, it's possible that you've found a bug in the software. Plesae notify the admins by giving them the URL."

Now there's no sign in the Recent Changes that it has been deleted. Could you take a look at it? Many thanks!

Broken file[]

I found the file and was able to delete it. It was [[:File:Mcmapmapped.jpg]] and would break any page that tried to show a thumbnail of it (the full image worked fine), including special pages such as Special:NewFiles and Special:FileList and its own file page.

I can only guess that the reason it broke everything was because of how large it was (6,040px × 4,776px, 2.6MB). Is there a way to block images that are over a certain dimension from being uploaded? (Or at least disable thumbnailing for them.) ultradude25 (T|C) at 07:38, 29 July 2012 (UTC)

Suggestion on fixing corruption in crafting page[]

I think the main issue with the page is the shear amount of animated sections. Anything that uses wood, wooden planks or is a wood product has to have 4 animations EACH. Wool cycles through a whopping 16 different colors whenever it shows up. The amount of scripts would be reduced to a fraction of what its currently using if we just use the standard wood color for anything involving wood and just have a small note on the page mentioning the other variations. The same could be done for beds or paintings with wool. --Moxxy 05:50, 9 August 2012 (UTC)

Mods corrupts just as much, and doesn't have any grid templates at all. The animations are actually really simple, it's just layered images and the JavaScript cycles their visibility (and since JS is client-side, no affect on the server).
The only complicated template mods has is the version (and subsequently verlink) template, both of which are used on many pages (and those pages don't seem to have corruption issues). ultradude25 (T|C) at 06:13, 9 August 2012 (UTC)
A far more likely possibility in my mind is the number of revisions: Mods has over 4000 revisions in its history. Of course, this doesn't explain why other pages with lots of revisions don't seem to get corrupted in a similar fashion... ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 07:01, 9 August 2012 (UTC)

New subdomain[]

Hi, i'm the lead italian translator of the Minecraft Wiki and i want to ask you how many pages we translate for obtain a new subdomain like "it.minecraftwiki.net" ?

--Raffox97 20:09, 11 August 2012 (UTC)

You need to translate all the primary pages that are linked on [[Minecraft Wiki/it]], not just have the inks point to the English pages. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 20:35, 11 August 2012 (UTC)
So, if i translate all the pages linked in [[Minecraft Wiki/it]] you gave to the minecraft italian community the subdomain "it.minecraftwiki.net" right?
PS: Because i'm the leader of the italian translator community of the minecraft wiki, when the subdomain is created can you insert me as "it.Wiki Founder/Admin"?

--Raffox97 08:08, 13 August 2012 (UTC)

I will ask the Italian community who they want as their community admin. But yes, we need at least the pages linked directly to the main page to be translated before you get a subdomain. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 11:38, 13 August 2012 (UTC)

If you're talking about the special page, it's automatically generated by the software (based on links to non-existent pages). Just because a page is there, doesn't mean we actually want it; someone (or a template) has just gone and linked to something that doesn't exist. In this case, that page should redirect to the wooden planks page. ultradude25 (T|C) at 00:31, 15 August 2012 (UTC)

Er, Sorry, What's a browser cache? I have very little knowledge on Computers. Creepergoboom64 23:48, 23 August 2012 (UTC)Creepergoboom64

Your browser stores information from each webpage you visit so it doesn't have to reload everything every time. This is called the Cache. If your browser cache becomes full, or otherwise corrupted, it can cause these kinds of errors. Depending on which browser you are using, you can either clear your cache per page (ctrl+F5 for most browsers) or you can clear your entire browser cache through the preferences/options/tools menu of your browser. For more detailed information, check here http://www.wikihow.com/Clear-Your-Browser%27s-Cache -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 03:27, 24 August 2012 (UTC)

I noticed this happen to the {{hp}} bars on Wither earlier today. Not the first time it's occurred, usually to the hp/hunger bar templates. My guess is that it's just a server load issue, as it's intermittent and seems to resolve itself within a few hours. -- Orthotope 04:12, 24 August 2012 (UTC)

It seems to be related to the wiki turning off thumbnails occasionally. That works fine for normal images, but svg images are always thumbnailed (and the CDN doesn't allow anything but normal images), so the svg files break, while normal images just look aliased. ultradude25 (T|C) at 04:25, 24 August 2012 (UTC)

Uh, Wynthyst? It's still going on. Now that i know someone else also saw the same glitch, I do belive it's a bug in the server, not the browser itself. I cleared my cache three times! Creepergoboom64 03:39, 5 September 2012 (UTC)Creepergoboom64

Problem on the French Wiki....[]

Hi!

We have a pretty big problem on the French wiki, since we no longer see the badges indicating the number of elements on a grid crafts.

Knowing that we have the former provision, here is an example: http://fr.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Panneau

In theory, we should have a 3 next to the result.

The problem occurs since you set up the new system "Grid2" on English wiki. Could try to fix this problem please?

Sincerely. Itouchmasterpro 08:16, 25 August 2012 (UTC)

Grid2 has different syntax, that's why it's a separate template and not replacing the old one, because every page with numbers, animations or mods has to be changed. Once that's all done then it will replace the original template.
You shouldn't need to worry about using the newer template so much though. The syntax change was necessary to improve mod support, and since it'd kind of be a waste of time for mod pages to be translated, you don't need the changes.
Updating eventually is good still, so you can use any later updates; but you can take your time with that.ultradude25 (T|C) at 08:26, 25 August 2012 (UTC)
Same on the Spanish wiki, it no longer works. Wynthyst could reply ... thank you very much ! :-) Itouchmasterpro 22:15, 25 August 2012 (UTC)
Well, first of all, I don't know how a change on the English wiki could be affecting either the French or Spanish wiki unless those changes have also been carried over, since there is no connection between them. I believe Ultradude answered your question, and given he understands best how those templates work (he created them) there's not much I can say that would be different than what he's said. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 22:27, 25 August 2012 (UTC)
Okay, but you can't try to fix it, because the syntax... :x Itouchmasterpro 22:37, 25 August 2012 (UTC)
I'm not touching it... I'd just make a mess. You'd be better off asking Ultra for help, I mean, I can see it's not working, but I wouldn't have the slightest idea where to start to find out why. He's got a much better understanding of how it works. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 22:39, 25 August 2012 (UTC)
Well looking at the template, it looks pretty old. It still uses inline styling, an image sprite for the numbers and an image for the background, so I don't know if you've updated something that the template uses, and it's incompatible with an old version or something.
The numbers are actually there, they are just pushed offscreen, and your sprite template doesn't seem to be aligning the image properly for some reason, so it doesn't show up at all.
A change here won't affect anything over there (unless you manually copy it over). ultradude25 (T|C) at 00:27, 26 August 2012 (UTC)
Could it have been the addition of HtmlTidy? -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 02:11, 26 August 2012 (UTC)
Ah yeah, that would make sense. The number div has been moved outside the output span.
Divs need to be changed to spans, and if they don't already have a display value, set it to display: block. Alternatively, update to the latest versions of our templates (use grid, not grid2), which already have everything fixed for HTMLTidy (need to update your css and js files too). I can update your templates when I have time, but I don't have admin on french and can't even login to spanish, so I can't update the css and js. ultradude25 (T|C) at 02:55, 26 August 2012 (UTC)

Wynthyst, I noticed you archived the admin noticeboard, but you didn't block the vandals? Are you not going to block them, and are the vandalism issues supposed to be resolved? --M0rphzone 04:11, 28 September 2012 (UTC)

All issues have been resolved as appropriately as possible. The archival was to clear up old issues, making room for new ones. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 04:12, 28 September 2012 (UTC)
Ok then. --M0rphzone 04:13, 28 September 2012 (UTC)

Re[]

Why are you engaging in censorship? And how long do I have to comply with this "rule"? ----M0rphzone(talk) 03:27, 30 September 2012 (UTC)

I've removed it, but will you please ask Curse to consider changing the sidebar into a scroll-up/popup window (not the intrusive type) that moves into the bottom or bottom right side of the page? This way, people can at least read something legible when infoboxes and images are added to the already-squished article space, and the revenue from the adspace will not decrease. Thanks --M0rphzone(talk) 03:50, 30 September 2012 (UTC)

It's not censorship. Your signature should have no more than your user page, talk page, and contrib links. You can put that link in big lettering on the top of your user page though, as well as continue using that method to hide the sidebar for yourself. --Kanegasi C 03:57, 30 September 2012 (UTC)
I didn't see anything in the rules list that said people were restricted to only those 3 links or contributions, etc? And forcing removal of content with threat to ban is a form of censorship. --M0rphzone(talk) 04:04, 30 September 2012 (UTC)
It is general wiki etiquette. --Kanegasi C 04:13, 30 September 2012 (UTC)
I have already given you a pretty definitive answer. Curse will not be changing the sidebar, with the exception of if the community can come up with content for the "twitter feed" box they feel would be more beneficial. Given the number of people who visit this wiki, the number of people who have voiced opposition to this sidebar in the YEAR since it's been implemented is about 20, which isn't even a blip on Curse's radar when looking at traffic averages of 5 million unique global visitors per month. If you were Curse would the rants of 20 people even get you to look twice? -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 08:50, 30 September 2012 (UTC)
