Cobblestone's old texture

In the very early versions of Minecraft, Cobblestone had a slightly different texture, with less colors.

Mind making a render of it and putting on its article? Somebody500 (有人500) 01:23, 30 April 2011 (UTC)

Do you have a version number for it? –ultradude25 (T|C) at 04:49, 30 April 2011 (UTC)
Uhh, not sure, but I am sure it got changed to its current texture between 0.0.13a_03 and 0.0.15a. Definitely before the first multiplayer test. Somebody500 (有人500) 13:48, 30 April 2011 (UTC)
I'd rather have a definite version number before adding about when it was added to the article. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 12:57, 1 May 2011 (UTC)

Hi, i reverted 3 times the contributions on minecraft wiki/es from the user Ryo because is deleting the correct links, creating bad links in spanish, outdating the article to english in some places and more. In second place, i want to be admin from the spanish translation, what may i do? thanks Milogullon 05:45, 3 May 2011 (UTC)

I know you asked Ultradude, not me, but i'd just like to point out that 'griefing' something on the minecraft wiki isn't actually called griefing, it's called vandalizing. :D Hope you get a reply --Rocĸetor talk 07:31, 3 May 2011 (UTC)

You should report problems on the Minecraft Wiki:Admin noticeboard, not here. As I can't read the language I really have no idea what's going on there in your reverts, for all I know you could be the one reverting to bad language. Probably best to find an admin that speaks spanish. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 08:33, 3 May 2011 (UTC)

bug formatting

Hey, Nice work on the template. You seem to know a lot more about this template and table stuff as I do so i appreciate the work you put into it. I've applied some feedback into the fields that I was using so I guess it would be best if yours shows the same fields. The @jeb i changed into 'Statements' - in both cases they represent feedback from Mojang. I added 'cosmetic' to impact for things like "Beds being broken appear to get brighter". (so in my example it's cosmetic-low-normal-high ) , and priority changed to 'Fix announced' (so if we know they are working on some bug to fix before the next version we can add that bit of info, since we cant tell what mojang thinks about the priority and to eliminate that people mark things higher because they think its important)

Suggestion for creating Template:Redirect

Here is a member of Chinese translation project.

Just wondering if there could be a template:redirect like the one on Wikipedia?

There are two opinion of creating new pages: still using "/ch" until all pages are translated, or directly using Chinese characters, as using {{escaped link|冰}} instead of {{escaped link|ice/ch}}. However, if adopting the latter one, there would be a huge amount of modification, as all the links in pages should be changed. And before this diversification is not solved, there might be more trouble in the future.

I don't know how the French translation project goes, maybe they had used French for creating pages instead of using "/fr", or had modified all pages manually (hard to believe that)
It could be very nice if you let me know how it goes.

Or if I could recommend you for creating template:redirect. We may just have to add it to every pages' heads, which may getting things easier after finishing all pages, no matter for Chinese or other translation project.

(Jarv 11:33, 8 May 2011 (UTC))

All translation pages use subdomains. Any pages using any thing else, will be deleted. (Or moved, if the person who sees it can be bothered looking up what language it's for.) –ultradude25 (T|C) at 14:46, 8 May 2011 (UTC) should all pages using /xx be changed manually after we finished all the translations and given a subdomain?(Jarv 15:36, 8 May 2011 (UTC))

Unable to create pages etc.

Hello! I'm unable to create pages and I don't know why? I have confirmed my E-mail address but I guess there is more to the anti-spam bot filter?

Anyways is there any way you could make me able to create pages, I would like to do some translation work for my native language (Norwegian) :)

or at least tell me how to be able to create new pages :)

with best Regards: Mazetar

Hi. I know i'm not Ultra but i'd like to tell you about the autoconfirmed usergroup. To make pages, you must confirm your email address, be a user for 3 days and have 10 edits (any edits). Also it's great that we have another translator! When i make pages I search up an article name, and if it doesn't exist, it says if I want to create it. Well, that's what I do. Would an Interwiki-Link Bot make sense?

Hi, afaik, you're one of the two bot creators in the minecraft wiki, so I'm asking you about this: Do you think it would make sense to set up an interwiki-link bot in here? As of now, there are many languages and translations coming up, so I thought about it... I have experience with bots on the wikipedia itself, but not on other wikis, so you might tell me if I just had to change the user-config or anything else too.

Thanks for your time --morre.meyer 17:50, 22 May 2011 (UTC)

Uh well we're using WP:AWB, we didn't create the bots. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 23:37, 22 May 2011 (UTC)
But do you think it would make sense to set up a bot? --morre.meyer 11:27, 23 May 2011 (UTC)
It would free up a lot of time for whomever is currently doing this with AWB (not to mention the fact that the amount of work to be done increases linearly at best, and probably closer to exponentially, as new languages are added). ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 16:54, 23 May 2011 (UTC)
So I'm going to try setup one. Visit my bot info for the latest info about it. --morre.meyer 18:33, 23 May 2011 (UTC)
So we acutally only have AWB-users and no real bots? If it is like this, I'll spend some more time on bots, setting up two ones, one for Interwiki links, the other for automatic syntax/spell correction. And by the way, to whom shall I refer for the bot flag? --morre.meyer 19:03, 23 May 2011 (UTC)
Aww, before I forget this: While I'm starting working with the bot, it may do mysterious edits. Therefore, I will (as usual) let it run controlled at the beginning and of course I'll revert eventually occuring false edits --morre.meyer 19:24, 23 May 2011 (UTC)
Sorry to intrude. I'm using a py-wikipedia bot on the french wiki. I've tried to use it to set up the interwiki links, but I was confronted to those issues : Minecraft Wiki talk:Directors#Interwiki links, which are not resolved yet… – Scaler (t) 19:30, 23 May 2011 (UTC)
No problem, always thankful for new input. Maybe some conflicts with the cyrillian letters? I won't give up until it works or something crashes (so far it seems that my computer likes to do this if I'm working on wikis). Maybe I'll find a solution... --morre.meyer 19:44, 23 May 2011 (UTC)
Should probably check with Wynthyst before setting up any automatic bots. I remember her saying she didn't want any unless she really trusted the owner. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 03:03, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
I'm going to check with her. --morre.meyer 07:08, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
And as of me thinking at low speed sometimes, I forgot that I'm behind a proxy for the next two weeks. But I'll keep talking to everyone of importance how to deal with bots or if we don't like bots at all. --morre.meyer 11:17, 24 May 2011 (UTC)

Seeing how those blocks are in 1.8, he doesn't have the texture files, meaning he can't make renders. RacinFreek 20:06, 6 July 2011 (UTC)
Well, I did a pixel-by-pixel reproduction of the blocks, as the image was high quality enough. But if by "do a render" he means "make an isometric screenshot of one block," that has already been handled by 2xmm2. On the other hand, if he means use the textures and take an ingame screenshot, there is no reason to because Jeb's picture is already good enough and is developer sanctioned. Verhalthur (talk)(contribs) 20:27, 6 July 2011 (UTC)
I'm not doing any renders for the unreleased blocks, as they could change at any time (and the pixel-by-pixel version can easily be wrong). When they're actually released, or a finalised terrain.png is released I'll do them. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 01:53, 7 July 2011 (UTC)

{{Dablink}} (at least as used on Wikipedia) is not meant to be used directly in articles - it is a metatemplate, and as such, is used in other templates, such as Template:For and Template:Redirect. If it gets copied to some other wiki where it is subsequently used directly on articles, it offers almost no benefit whatsoever over just using the raw markup. ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 21:23, 4 August 2011 (UTC)

There shouldn't be any speculation on any mainspace pages anyway, it's not just upcoming feature pages. If someone is repeatedly doing it report them. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 01:05, 17 August 2011 (UTC)

I believe the russian wiki shares the database with us, and they've uploaded an image which is the same image as the incorrect one is on our wiki; so I believe they've overwritten our image with theirs, thus making the revert seem to be a different image, when really it's the original before they overwrote it. Other cache corruptions have happened before, and I speculated that it was due to the shared database, and this is making me more certain of it. I don't know why it's affected that one instead of the current image, I guess the wiki software just wasn't designed to have more than one wiki modifying the same database, I'm surprised it has only affected images, and not caused other weird things like settings randomly changing themselves. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 09:11, 24 August 2011 (UTC)
Ok, it's really complicated ^^". – Scaler (t) 10:15, 24 August 2011 (UTC)
Actually, it's not that surprising; most of the settings in MediaWiki are set in LocalSettings.php, rather than the database, and pretty much all of the Wikimedia wikis are served from the same server clusters (not to mention Wikimedia Commons serving images to most of them), so if settings could so easily randomly change just because of shared databases, there'd be some pretty big problems over there. As far as the image problem is concerned, that sounds more like it could be a result of how the shared database has been configured here then the fact that it's shared in the first place (again, I point to Wikimedia Commons to lend weight to my comment). ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 16:09, 24 August 2011 (UTC)
Are they actually sharing images? Without any issues like this? This sort of thing only started happening around the time the first subdomain was created and Curse took over. So, either the Curse servers are having issues or it's the way the database is set up. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 01:05, 25 August 2011 (UTC)
Yes. Images on Commons can be used on almost any Wikimedia wiki without any further work on the reusing wiki, once it has been configured to use Commons. The biggest issue I'm aware of with the system is an image being uploaded to a wiki with the same name as an image (not necessarily the same image) on Commons. I don't know any details of the setup here (and I'm not really familiar with the configuration Wikimedia uses, from a technical perspective), so I can't speculate on any configuration differences that might be causing the issues you've been seeing. ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 01:09, 25 August 2011 (UTC)

Do you want to see the Terrain.Png of which I found it in? Or the MineCraft.jar? O_o --Unlimited307 02:17, 28 August 2011 (UTC)

A terrain.png can easily be edited. I would like to see some solid evidence, like a tweet from Notch or something that can't be edited. I have never seen that image, or heard of anyone ever mentioning it in the terrain.png, it also wouldn't make any sense because there's already a wooden plank texture, and you could just take parts of that texture to use on the chair instead of making separate texture. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 02:21, 28 August 2011 (UTC)
I'm doubtful he would tweet of it. I found it next to what looks like a table. Anyhow, is there anyway you could obtain a legitimate InDev Jar? I saved mine and found it when rummaging through my old files. Perhaps you could ask a trusted source of yours if they have it? Well anyway, should I provide you the terrain.png anyway, it's all the proof I have.--Unlimited307 02:43, 28 August 2011 (UTC)
I, myself, have also seen this but cannot provide solid evidence. I remember it from indev but had since forgotten about it until now. No information was given on the texture and it was quickly removed. I doubt we could get any Mojang employee to comment on it considering its unimportant role. Verhalthur (talk)(contribs) 02:45, 28 August 2011 (UTC)
I would love to know more about the thing that I saw. I also am beginning to wonder if there are other secrets lurking in old terrain.pngs. Hmm.--Unlimited307 05:27, 28 August 2011 (UTC)

Croatian Translation - permission and requirements?

Our community leader, Nidjo123 (I know nickname sounds kinda spammy, sorry about that) asked for permission to create Croatian Translation project to citricsquid, but there was no reply back about it AFAIK, probably because he is busy. as I've noticed they you're active enough, what are requirements to do this? I know that I have to confirm e-mail address, be a user for 3 days and have 10 edits (probably excluding talk/user edits). *Another question is vandalism, I'm not sure what would cause it if I actually edit something properly, but it wasn't supposed to be edited at all. Tom.K 07:42, 29 August 2011 (UTC)

There is no need to ask permission, you can simply create the project page Minecraft Wiki:Projects/Croation translation and go to work. I do suggest you have a few people already interested in helping with the project before you start. (I just created the page for you, now you just need to fill it in.) -- Wynthyst Image:User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 08:34, 29 August 2011 (UTC)
Um, there's a problem. It's not Croation, it's Croatian, just to let you know. Delete that one. Tom.K 08:57, 29 August 2011 (UTC)
Once you've completed the auto-confirmed user group requirements, you can start creating pages yourself. In the meantime, you can be formatting your project page. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 09:09, 29 August 2011 (UTC)

Bad render I found

File:Lava-Pre Creative 0.0.19a.png awful render, you may want to fix it...--Yurisho 16:50, 30 August 2011 (UTC)

It's intended to be the old lava texture still present in the terrain.png image. Verhalthur (talk)(contribs) 16:55, 30 August 2011 (UTC)
I did in 10 minutes with an awful tool. I know, it is the worst render I've seen. CosmoConsole my page! my talk! my contributions! 16:56, 30 August 2011 (UTC)
Searched a little and found a render at the history of File:Lava.png, so I changed it myself :)--Yurisho 21:27, 30 August 2011 (UTC)
I'll redo it anyway, as that old render doesn't have anti-aliasing. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 21:52, 30 August 2011 (UTC)

Old water render

How about a render of the old water texture from the terrain.png?--Yurisho 21:42, 30 August 2011 (UTC)

I'm not sure what you mean, the current water render is from terrain.png, I just added transparency. The current water and lava don't have a texture, they're somehow generated by the game. If someone could find me a texture with all the frames of water and lava, I could animate the water and lava renders. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 21:52, 30 August 2011 (UTC)
The water texture from the terrain.png file is not used in-game anymore, it's an old texture...maybe a recreation is needed to obtain the new texture... but until then let's use this texture, and when a good new one is out, this render can be used to show the old version. also, what about Minecraft.jar/misc/water.png?--Yurisho 22:32, 30 August 2011 (UTC)
The only thing that changed between the new and old water was the animation right? The old water was transparent too? If so, I guess we can just copy the current water render. Also, that texture is the overlay that is applied to the screen when you go underwater. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 00:16, 31 August 2011 (UTC)
No I don't think that the texture is used above water, it's way more blue-ish now then the texture!--Yurisho 06:58, 31 August 2011 (UTC)

Deleted page

Hello Ultradude, Yesterday I created a page about the group "Team Avolition". This was meant merely as an informative resource for people wanting a general overview of the group. I kept it unbiased and I am afraid that perhaps your own bias on the subject may have led to you deleting the page. I hope that we can settle our differences in a civil discouse. I look forward to your reply.

Sincerely, brickbuster27

There was no "bias" on his part that led to the page's deletion; per Rule 11, pages about fan communities are not allowed, to avoid any problems with advertising. ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 17:12, 31 August 2011 (UTC)
