Conduit - tutorial needed?
Hi, thanks for responding in our discussion at Talk:Tutorials/Drowned farming. I wanted to talk to you about another topic tangential to that.
You mentioned on that talk page that conduits "are surprisingly easy to obtain."
I'm interested in knowing how. You need 8 nautilus shells and 1 heart of the sea to start with. The nautilus shells are easy enough to obtain from the drowned farm, or by fishing. Heart of the sea can be found only in buried chests. Do you know of strategies for finding these in survival mode?
And after you obtain a conduit block, you need to activate it. Reading the conduit article, activation requires prismarine and sea lanterns... which require underwater excavation.
It seems to me that this subject cries out for a tutorial! If you have experience with the topic, would you write one?
I'd love to explore the underwater world in survival mode, but my son and I are finding it challenging to make any headway, and it would be nice to see a page of advice. We've built a turtle farm so we can craft turtle shell helmets, but that gives only 10 additional seconds of water breathing. We have an anvil for enchanting items thanks to our iron golem farm, but no way to make potions. We get occasional enchanted books with our enchanted fishing rod (which we got by fishing with a normal rod), and our drowned farm provides us with occasional enchanted items. We're unwilling to go into the Nether to get a blaze rod to create a brewing stand to create a potion of water breathing — our goal in this long-running game we're playing is to accomplish as much as possible in the overworld. In Bedrock edition a potion of water breathing has a good chance of being found in buried chests, but this isn't a renewable resource. Having a reliable way to obtain a conduit would be ideal.
(BTW it would be great if you could confirm whether drowned zombies in Java edition drop nautilus shells, not just naturally-spawned drowned. The Drowned or nautilus shell articles here aren't clear on that point. The problem is, I don't know anyone who plays Java edition. All the kids play Minecraft on mobile devices, which is Bedrock, and Windows 10 also runs Bedrock, so that's what my son and I play together.) ~Amatulić (talk) 19:48, 24 October 2018 (UTC)
