Curse?[edit]

You're not part of Curse. HotdogPi ⑬㊲ 23:15, 29 January 2013 (UTC)

Yes they are. Not all of the Curse wiki team is on every single wiki. They tend to focus on a few wikis rather than the entire team spread across all wikis. http://www.wikiswtor.com/User:Game_widow http://www.skyrimwiki.com/User:Game_widow http://www.falloutwiki.com/User:Game_widow Kanegasi C 18:34, 30 January 2013 (UTC)
It would have been nice if the user had provided those links when creating their page. A new user claiming to be part of Curse without any evidence, not in the Curse rights group, and not on the Directors page, looked rather questionable. -- Orthotope 20:03, 30 January 2013 (UTC)

Install an extension[edit]

Hello im from the minecraft-es wiki. We want to install this extension.

Could you do it?

Thank you. --Trarsheise (talk) 09:34, 20 July 2014 (UTC)

Gamepedia points/level[edit]

Hey Game widow, I know it's not a terribly important thing, but my profile still shows me as not having any Gamepedia points, and as a result, being at level 1, and it's shown this since the update in which it was first added. Does it appear correctly for others (viewing my profile while logged out shows the same thing, so I'm leaning towards "no"), or is there something deeper going on? ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 20:28, 10 August 2014 (UTC)

I don't think the background process is actually done crawling through all the wikis and updating the information yet, but i'll check into it. I know my own profile is not up to date either — Game widow (talk) 11:35, 11 August 2014 (UTC)

Internal error when unwatching pages[edit]

Hello. These are the error messages returned when a user attempts to edit their watchlist. Reported by a user on the Russian wiki, I tested by trying to remove an entry from my watchlist (and received the same error messages) there and on this wiki.

Unwatching pages by clicking the Unwatch button in the page's options removes it from the watchlist without any errors.

2013 Minecon Cape contest[edit]

Hey Game widow, I just completed all but one of the "ways to enter" extra entry things (after no small amount of difficulty on my part) for the Enter to win a 2013 Minecon Cape contest, and it's now showing that I have 2111112 entries; refreshing the page hasn't changed this. I don't know if it's just a display bug and I only have 9 entries, or if something went seriously haywire and I really ended up with over 2 million, but if it's the latter, I'd really rather not be disqualified for something completely beyond my control. =) ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 06:23, 23 August 2014 (UTC)

About Chinese Minecraft Wiki[edit]

I've pinged minecraft-zh.gamepedia.com, I got 190.93.244.101. I found it is in Costa Rica. That's far away from China -- where most Chinese-speaker in. I know gamepedia use CloudFlare, and they have a panel point in Hong Kong. Could you switch the panel point to Hong Kong for Chinese Minecraft Wiki if possible? a20001017Talk 09:04, 25 August 2014 (UTC)

About Bots[edit]

Hello Game widow!

How could I make a second account with the same email in order to create a bot account?

Trarsheise Discusión◄►Contribuciones 17:29, 2 September 2014 (UTC)

I'm afraid it isn't possible. You could create basically a dummy account on googlemail which redirects to your primary email address and use that. That's the only relatively easy workaround i can suggest. — Game widow (talk) 18:08, 2 September 2014 (UTC)
Thanks anyway, I'll do that. Trarsheise Discusión◄►Contribuciones 21:23, 2 September 2014 (UTC)

SyntaxHighlight GeSHi?[edit]

Could we finally have SyntaxHighlight GeSHi enabled? The original request/veto was almost three years ago, and with Lua, I believe it is more relevant than ever; it's not like the extension itself is unstable or the like, given the fact that it's been used on Wikimedia wikis - including the English Wikipedia - for close to a decade now, and has been bundled since MediaWiki 1.21. Thanks! ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 04:57, 11 September 2014 (UTC)

Personally, I don't like GeSHi. Mainly because of its terrible class naming scheme which makes styling it difficult, but its also the sort of thing that I prefer to see done with JS. It gives you more control over what syntax it supports (no regex-based highlighter perfectly highlights all syntax), and you're not slowing down the page load waiting for it to parse a big script. I've been using Prism.js for ages and it works pretty well, and is really easy to extend (I added support for lua really easily) and theme. MajrTalk

I'm inclined to agree with Majr here. But if you two can come to an agreement, i can act on it — Game widow (talk) 11:32, 11 September 2014 (UTC)
If you don't mind us using your talk page for it, I'll see what we can do, otherwise I can move the discussion over to Majr's talk page. =)
Majr: Like it or not, GeSHi is the de facto standard for syntax highlighting on MediaWiki wikis, and SyntaxHighlight GeSHi is the standard - de facto and de jure - for implementing it via an extension. While I can't speak for ease of styling, since I've never had reason to restyle GeSHi's output, I can say from personal experience that the added overhead from GeSHi's processing is so minuscule as to be nonexistent from a human perspective, even on very large files. (I'll also grant you the bit about regex not being suited for constructing parsers; that's not exactly a controversial notion.) There are other extensions for syntax highlighting, some of which don't use GeSHi, but I've never had reason nor opportunity to actually try any of them.
I am the opposite of you here; I don't care for JavaScript solutions, instead preferring something server-side. There is no good argument for not syntax highlighting scripts for every person that views them, and the only way to do that client-side is to include the syntax highlighting JS in a global JS file, in which case the overhead of loading the script is present on every uncached pageload. At best, you can write a wrapper function to check for highlightable scripts on the current page and then conditionally load the script if any are found. And if the script isn't loaded globally, it falls to each individual to discover and then add it for themselves, a straight-up non-solution: very few people are going to be interested in going through the effort, especially when they're already accustomed to syntax highlighting on other MediaWiki wikis Just Working™. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 16:00, 11 September 2014 (UTC)
I'm not one to advocate using JS where it is unnecessary (nothing worse than someone using JS for something CSS can do), however I would consider syntax highlighting a progressive enhancement. Even if GeSHi only slows down the page load by half a second, I would still rather be able to see the unhighlighted code that half a second earlier and have it be enhanced with highlighting a moment later.
Loading the script would be made easier if we had gadgets. But really, is this something that the everyday reader needs? On WP it's relevant where there are a fair number of articles with code in them, and many people are editing code on the wiki, but here we rarely post any code in articles, and any we do post is just small snippets of pseudo-code or Java, which isn't particularly important to have highlighted. Otherwise, its only use is for the (surprisingly few) editors that edit Lua, JS or CSS. Which they could easily opt-in (or opt-out, if we prefer it as the default) to a gadget.
I'm not going to make a big fuss about having GeSHi. If other people would also prefer it over other options and think it is worthwhile, then no problem. I can always personally overwrite it with more customised solutions anyway. ;) MajrTalk

For HTML and CSS, I'd agree, syntax highlighting, nice as it is, is largely a progressive enhancement. For just about anything else (including wikimarkup; I have regularly found myself wishing the editor highlighted syntax for me, especially when editing templates), I would argue that syntax highlighting is much closer to a necessity. And when I said that enabling GeSHi didn't result in any noticeable slowdown, I meant exactly that: I don't think I've ever seen any GeSHi-highlighted page take more than a few additional microseconds to be rendered and sent to the client (definitely never an additional half-second or more), and as I said, that's even with having some fairly large CSS/JS pages highlighted.
In this case, I'm not particularly worried about whether the everyday reader needs. As I've explained already (well, alluded to rather strongly), the extension has been highly optimized so that it only runs either on pages with a syntaxhighlight tag or on user and skin CSS/JS pages and Lua modules, so for most pages, there's no additional overhead whatsoever, and even on the pages it runs on, you would have to be comparing render times to notice any difference at all. I have found syntax highlighting important enough that I've specifically requested the extension be enabled on Wikia wikis I'm heavily involved in, right up to the point where Wikia started just enabling it by default (the two aren't related, I think), and for the most part, those wikis are not heavy on article-facing code snippets: one is the Yu-Gi-Oh! wiki, which AFAICR doesn't have a single code snippet in any article.
Lastly, when the extension is enabled, it adds the file MediaWiki:Geshi.css, which can be used to tweak or apply fixes to the highlighting behavior in some cases; Wikipedia has two such tweaks in their file. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 07:10, 13 September 2014 (UTC)
I guess I just prefer gadgets over extensions because you have control over gadgets, whereas with extensions you're stuck with whatever it gives you. MajrTalk

Problems with external links[edit]

Hello! I'm from russian wiki, and I have problems adding external links or calling templates, that have external links, example is {{License Mojang}}, that links to Minecraft EULA and Curse terms. When I click "Save Page", I'm asked to choose cats, but it even shouldn't ask it, because I am an autoconfirmed user and have right "skipcaptcha". When the cats are chosen, I click "Save Page" again. But it again asks me to choose the cats! I tried logging off my account, choosing cats 3 times, but nothing works. It began after wiki updated MediaWiki to 1.23. --Dand0 (talk) 07:11, 12 September 2014 (UTC)

Search function broken?[edit]

Hello, the search function of the Chinese wiki seems to be broken since the site has moved to the gamepedia domain, it searches English words fine, but when it comes to searching Chinese characters, no result shows up, this makes the search function quite useless since we cannot find what we want if we don't have the exact page names. I hope the Curese tech team can help us solve this problem. The new group should be in place and ready to use — Game widow (talk) 21:43, 15 September 2014 (UTC)
It was concluded before that this user group is unnecessary. The group's intended purpose was to revert and/or delete all vandalism (and leave all methods of preventing it, such as abuse filters and blocks, to administrators). As vandalism is now mostly neither frequent nor severe (an occasional anonymous user adding profanity or gibberish, or removing some text, is far less significant than no longer active IP-changing vandals making many edits without any patterns, or large groups of registered vandals targeting semiprotected pages; a relatively recent incident with a registered user blanking articles is a situation when someone needs to block him quickly, not revert him until he stops), I think no additional countermeasures are required. --GreenStone (talk) 21:54, 15 September 2014 (UTC)

Russian wiki general issues and social network popups[edit]

General issues[edit]

I was about to post an error report about what I see when using the wiki in Firefox 32 (and what some other users confirm as well). The sidebar sometimes loads partially (its initially collapsed sections may not be expandable), search suggestions don't appear, the advanced edit toolbar is gone.

Then I tried Opera 12.17. Everything worked fine.

I asked our users to test these functions and report the results including information about the browsers they used for testing. The results are in the table below:

Browser Sidebar Search suggestions Adv. toolbar
Firefox 32 Sometimes Never Never
Google Chrome 37 Sometimes Never Never
Internet Explorer 8 Never Never Never
Internet Explorer 11 Always Never Sometimes
Opera 12.17 Always Always Always
Thank you for the very thorough investigation. I will definitely inform our platform team and let you know what can be done, or is currently being worked on — Game widow (talk) 00:51, 6 October 2014 (UTC)
It's nothing to do with any browser, you just have some really old JS on your wiki that causes an error on this version of MediaWiki. MajrTalk

Social network popups[edit]

They can't be interacted with in any way. All buttons in the popups are reported to do nothing when clicked, and that includes the Close button. That may make editing the wiki impossible for some users.

In addition to that, many social networks more common in Russia are not supported by these social functions. Several wiki users said that they do not see any reasons why these popups shouldn't be disabled as soon as possible.

We found these reasons to disable them for the Russian wiki:

  1. Bugged. Even if they're fixed now, in case of another update they may become unusable again.
  2. As mentioned above, country-specific social networks are not supported.
  3. Annoying to those who don't want to share links to their contributions. And an account is required to disable them.
  4. I do not use social networks, but some users say that they find the popups redundant, and that we have the Share tab on almost every page.

We found no reasons to leave them. Therefore, if the popups can't be disabled, we need to know why. --GreenStone (talk) 13:51, 5 October 2014 (UTC)

I'll see what I can do about the social pop-ups. I can certainly understand that the services listed there are of little use to Russian contributors. — Game widow (talk) 00:50, 6 October 2014 (UTC)
I think I've managed to remove all the social media from the Russian wiki. Let me know if i've missed anything — Game widow (talk) 20:26, 7 October 2014 (UTC)

Page edit attempt on german Wiki crashes the site....[edit]

Hello Game Widow.

I have to admit that I am most likely the culprit for a few "crashes", at least of the german Minecraft Wiki, in the last two days. Now, i did not realize it's my edit attempt that brings the site down, of course, but I guess it did, as the problem's reproduceable.

Now for the facts: There is a talkpage over there that whenever I try to edit (remove two occurences of ':de:' that won't resolve on the german wiki and lead to redlinks instead of pointing towards the userpage as intended) causes strange problems:

  1. the edit itself runs for a while (until timeout, I guess), then terminates with an error page saying the Wiki is down
  2. While the edit runs, the "diff" of it is visible in the recent changes and in the version history of the talkpage
  3. Once the edit timeouts, all Access to the wiki temporarily stops (site unreachable - warning)
  4. When the site's back, both the version history and the recent changes are back to what they were before, the talkpage unaltered.

I suspect a database problem there. I might've been successful in deleting the whole talkpage, but I decided better to hand this over to you (and from there to the techs) so that the error can be fixed instead of circumvented.

I hope the problem's fixable. If there's any additional information you need, just ask ;) --CalebBlackhand (talk) 08:18, 10 October 2014 (UTC)

Addendum: Funny thing is, the filter logs still show the edits that are no longer there. Example: :de:Spezial:Missbrauchsfilter-Logbuch/85529. --CalebBlackhand (talk) 09:12, 10 October 2014 (UTC)
Near as i can tell, the problem is being caused the one or more of the abuse filters — Game widow (talk) 11:34, 10 October 2014 (UTC)
That's strange, as they don't stop me doing stuff on every other page I try... but then again, I have no access to any error log, so I cannot know. --CalebBlackhand (talk) 11:35, 10 October 2014 (UTC)
The filters being triggered are specific to talk pages: filters 14 and 15 — Game widow (talk) 11:37, 10 October 2014 (UTC)
Yes, I know. 14 is 'Missing signature on talkpage", action 'Warn', and 15 is more or less the same, just with action 'Tag edit'. Both work/worked unchanged for quite a while, and both still work flawlessly on other talkpages. For example, I triggered #15 with this edit and had no problem there. --CalebBlackhand (talk) 11:46, 10 October 2014 (UTC)
It's easy enough to test, since we are both online right now. Try disabling filter 15 (or i can, if you can't) and try the problematic edit again — Game widow (talk) 11:49, 10 October 2014 (UTC)
Good idea. I deactivated both 14 and 15, and got precisely the same result, just without the entry in the Filter log (which I naturally expected to be missing, seeing that the filter's off). de-Minecraft-Wiki was offline for a few moments as well. --CalebBlackhand (talk) 11:54, 10 October 2014 (UTC)

┌─────────────────────────────┘
Just FYI: I've been told about a second page showing the very same symptoms, [1] (currently a redirect). Just tested it, of course - yes, it's indeed crashing the site. Fun. As there's an author planning to do some editing under that title, my question is: Do the techs need another page to play with (in that case I'll let it be) or can I try and delete the page so that the user can start over, hopefully with a working page? --CalebBlackhand (talk) 11:19, 16 October 2014 (UTC)

I'm sure any additional pages help with testing, but the tech team won't be in the office for several hours yet. I'll collar one of them as soon as i find one and try to get an update — Game widow (talk) 11:21, 16 October 2014 (UTC)
The problem has been identified and fixed for the two pages you linked. The affected pages are on the watchlists of multiple merged users with renames pending, but those users have never logged back in. If they come back and log in, the problem resolves itself, but if they don't and you try to edit the page, the wiki tries to rename them all at once and that causes the crash.
Unfortunately, we can only fix the pages as you identify them, there is no way we can safely identify them all at once. — Game widow (talk) 18:07, 16 October 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for the information, and the fix. It's always good to know the reason of such crashes (and this is an obscure problem - congratulations to the techs for finding it). If we know that such pages need to be reported, that's fine with me. I'll inform our users to report such pages on our admin-board, and one of the german admins can then forward the information to you (for further forwarding to the techs, I assume). Or would you prefer another way? I'm open for suggestions. --CalebBlackhand (talk) 20:04, 16 October 2014 (UTC)
Would it be possible to delete the watchlists of those users? It's been over a year since the migration, and if they haven't logged in yet, there's a good chance they're not going to ever. -- Orthotopetalk 20:22, 16 October 2014 (UTC)

Problem[edit]

Hi. I think I've found a problem related to confirming an email address in the Preferences page. When I first created my account, I made typo in the email address that I didn't notice for about ten days. When I first noticed the typo, I changed my email address. But when I tried to confirm my email address, and see if Curse sent a verification code to my email, I didn't see one. So I decided to resend the verification email, but it still didn't show up. So I'm assuming the verification emails got sent to the other account. Any ideas? -JEC6789 (T | C | Boo!) 14:27, 3 November 2014 (UTC)

If you are doing this only for the sake of the wiki, it's entirely unnecessary. However, if you are being prevented from doing something, I can look into if further. — Game widow (talk) 19:28, 3 November 2014 (UTC)

What? None of our active filters are currently set to block, and I don't think blocking filters can help us in any way. --GreenStone (talk) 06:23, 8 November 2014 (UTC)
Oh… OK. I'm sorry. dand0 (talk) 06:26, 8 November 2014 (UTC)
I don't know what you're trying to do with the filters, but short-term blocks tend to be for relatively minor infractions; I'd be worried about the number of false positives if you're trying to catch that with an abuse filter. We do have a couple of blocking filters here, but they're set up to only catch very obvious spambots. -- Orthotopetalk 11:08, 8 November 2014 (UTC)

Minecraft Wiki namespace shortcut[edit]

The names of pages in the Minecraft Wiki namespace, including the "Minecraft Wiki:" bit, appear to be too long. While redirects can be created, the most effective way involves making a namespace shortcut.

User:Jeb[edit]

It seems Jeb's post migration name is Jeb_, but that is an invalid username, causing his user pages to have disappeared (one of which was used for a ref). Is it possible to change is name back to Jeb? KnightMiner (t·c) 20:13, 20 January 2015 (UTC)

Here is a link to his gamepedia profile, although it seems the name without the underscore is taken there. KnightMiner (t·c) 20:15, 20 January 2015 (UTC)
As luck would have it, this was noticed independently by our platform team and is being addressed — Game widow (talk) 22:15, 20 January 2015 (UTC)

It was my understanding that this was fixed that day (or very shortly thereafter). Are there still problems ? and if so, could you describe them? — Game widow (talk) 17:40, 9 February 2015 (UTC)
KnightMiner, his gamepedia profile works, just remove the _ at the end of the link. [2]. –LauraFi - talk 17:46, 9 February 2015 (UTC)
@LauraFi: That is not his profile, its a different Jeb.
Nevermind, it is working now today with his username being "Jeb mojang", and his user pages are back. KnightMiner (t·c) 18:13, 9 February 2015 (UTC)
Actually, I just noticed while his gamepedia profile works, his user profile here does not work, and his contributions page claims he is not registered. Past edits by him still do show his username though.
Also, I am not sure how relevant this is, but his username displays as "Jeb_mojang", while all other users with underscores in their names display them as spaces. KnightMiner (t·c) 18:53, 9 February 2015 (UTC)
Fixed fixed this time! The underscore did not get culled automatically into a space when I performed the rename. Azxiana (talk) 20:36, 9 February 2015 (UTC)
I also took the liberty of updating the contribs link on his userpage since it was hard-coded to his old username. CrsBenjamin - (talk) User Wynthyst sig icon.png 20:37, 9 February 2015 (UTC)

Common files database[edit]

Is it possible to make wikis use the same files, like is made on Terraria wiki (All wikis can use files from the English one) and Wikipedia Commons? And as far as I know it's possible to use files from Cursetech commons, isn’t it? I am just interesting. --dand0 (talk) 16:43, 22 January 2015 (UTC)

There were thoughts about having something like that (see User talk:Endernose#Potion brewing chart). KnightMiner? I’m Nick the Red37, a ru.wiki mod f.k.a. Naista2002 16:52, 22 January 2015 (UTC)
Of course it's possible, we were just told that the minecraft wikis didn't want that feature. We can't link you to Wikipedia Commons, but you can share the images from the English wiki — Game widow (talk) 16:54, 22 January 2015 (UTC)
In the past we had a shared database, the problems included a file randomly breaking (especially after uploading a new version or moving it) and files changing without a log (due to every wiki calling them separately). In order for it to work, it would likely require a commons wiki for the files, plus commons administrators to manage the files, then all wikis pulling files from that wiki, rather than the english. KnightMiner (t·c) 20:05, 22 January 2015 (UTC)
That is unlikely to happen, but I can ask — Game widow (talk) 20:06, 22 January 2015 (UTC)
I would also advise bringing it up on the director's page, to see if the various administrators from the other wikis want it. KnightMiner (t·c) 20:12, 22 January 2015 (UTC)
Certainly, but there's no point mentioning it at all if it's impossible — Game widow (talk) 21:08, 22 January 2015 (UTC)

Hello! I have a problem with my username. Before Minecraft Wiki moved to Gamepedia, the name of my wiki account was PC Minecraft. After this moving had happened, my name was changed to 16572. I heard, that you can solve this problem. Can you return my username back to PC Minecraft, if you are able to do it, please? I hope, the problem will be solved soon.--16572 (talk) 13:39, 24 January 2015 (UTC)

I've passed on your request to the people most likely to be able to help — Game widow (talk) 15:10, 24 January 2015 (UTC)
You have been issued a name change credit and as of this morning "PC_Minecraft" was not taken, so you should be able to change your username to that. To change your username, log out then log back in and there you should be prompted to choose a new username. You must use the underscore as the curse.com authentication does not support spaces in the username. — Game widow (talk) 17:40, 29 January 2015 (UTC)

MediaWiki bug linking (FYI)[edit]

I see there are "mwbug" and "mediazilla" prefixes in the interwiki map here, linking to the MediaWiki Bugzilla instance. You may want to add one linking to https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/$1, as MediaWiki now uses Phabricator for bug tracking and new bugs cannot be linked via the redirector at bugzilla.wikimedia.org. WikiPoints admin link on Special:Contributions[edit]

Hey Game widow, could you pass along a feature request for me? I'd like to have a link to a user's WikiPoints administration page added to the links at the top of Special:Contributions and Special:DeletedContributions (the "For Example (talk | ...)" links added via MediaWiki:Contribsub2. I already tried adding a link manually via that message, but it wouldn't work, and would have displayed for all people viewing a contributions page, and on the contributions page of both unregistered users and registered accounts. The link should only display for registered accounts, and should only be shown to administrators, since unregistered viewers and regular users would get permission errors on viewing the WikiPoints admin page anyways. Thanks! ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 00:03, 20 February 2015 (UTC)

The W3C provides an alternative or three. -- Orthotopetalk 15:49, 2 March 2015 (UTC)
You don't use an element because its styling happens to be convenient. The TT tag just happens to not have any styling in MW, probably because you're not supposed to be using it in the first place. The fact that it doesn't work on your mobile further proves this point. If you don't want a background (code will also have a border and some padding in the next version), then add some styling to remove it. MajrTalk

Sprite sheet extension/functionality[edit]

Hey Game Widow, the sprite sheet editor should not be enabled on all files by default; it should be explicitly opt-in (whether through a wikitext switch of some sort or through an interface mechanism similar to page protection; either way, it should come with a way to see what files have had it enabled). Most of the log entries for sprite sheet changes appear to be random users experimenting on random files, which has the potential to confuse editors since changing a file's sprite sheet triggers an enotif if the file is on your watchlist (and potentially shows the file as changed in your watchlist, though I haven't checked to confirm), but no entry appears on the file's history, only on its logs page.

In addition, the functionality makes it more difficult to directly access the file, by preventing being able to simply click on it (which, now that I mention it, is where I suspect some of the "test" log entries are coming from); even for files where the sprite sheet functionality is enabled, then, editing of the sheet should be a mode that you have to enable after viewing the file (e.g. a link that says "edit sprite sheet" or similar, that enables the mode when clicked).

Lastly, this is probably not something that just any editor should be able to change. If the functionality is intended to replace the sprite data modules we currently use, as it seems, it isn't something most editors need to touch, and instead should be behind a usergroup (admin would work, though preferably there would be a dedicated "spritesheet editor" usergroup or the like that could be handed out to editors who express interest in helping to maintain the sprite sheets).

I'm just telling you this so you can pass it on to the team responsible for this functionality. Thanks! =) ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 20:33, 29 March 2015 (UTC)

I don't believe that's what Knight was trying to do here, and it's definitely not what I was trying to do. When I started this discussion, I was honestly unaware of the other discussions that had already been started, and there were no other relevant discussions here on your talk page; it honestly never occurred to me that there would be discussions elsewhere (except maybe on the community portal or admin noticeboard), and since I understand you to be essentially our community liaison with Curse, I also never thought to report the issues anywhere else. With Knight's links, I believe he was merely interlinking the discussions to ensure everyone was aware of all of them, not trying to gang up or anything of the sort.
I understand that it could be frustrating finding that several editors have reported the same thing through multiple avenues in a short timespan, and apologize for whatever confusion it may have caused with the platform team or the Curse employees who directly handled the discussions, but it's no excuse for accusing us of colluding towards some unknown means, and would appreciate a little good faith in the future if something like this manages to happen again (hopefully it won't; now that I'm aware of other potential locations people report these things at, I'll definitely be more careful myself about reporting something that's already been reported). ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 19:17, 30 March 2015 (UTC)

Is GRAND RADION’s account really renamed (and PC Minecraft’s too)? — NickTheRed37 t/c (f.k.a. Naista2002) 15:28, 19 April 2015 (UTC)

Yes, the user formerly known as :ru:user:MinecraftPCandPE is now :ru:user:GRAND_RADION. –Preceding unsigned comment was added by CrsBenjamin (talkcontribs) at 18:13, 20 April 2015 (UTC). Please sign your posts with ~~~~
No. The profile is really not renamed (it stays at MinecraftPCandPE). Same with 16572. — NickTheRed37 t/c (f.k.a. Naista2002) 10:24, 21 April 2015 (UTC)
Well, that's bizarre. At this point there's no record for User:MinecraftPCandPE in our records. Have they logged out of the wiki entirely, cleared cache and re-logged? If so, I may need to get our dev team to investigate. I definitely re-named the account at the global level. I'm unclear what "16572" refers to? CrsBenjamin - (talk) User Wynthyst sig icon.png 14:55, 21 April 2015 (UTC)
"16572" refers to User:16572 who wants to be called "PC Minecraft" as they were before the Gamepedia migration. See here and here. KnightMiner t/c 15:12, 21 April 2015 (UTC)
According to this, 16572 was issued a re-name credit and just needs to log out/in on Gamepedia.com. I'll follow up on it though, thanks! CrsBenjamin - (talk) User Wynthyst sig icon.png 15:18, 21 April 2015 (UTC)
Upon further investigation, I need User:16572 to simply create the Curse account (s)he wants to use and let me know once that's done (and they've logged into MCW at least once). CrsBenjamin - (talk) User Wynthyst sig icon.png 16:16, 21 April 2015 (UTC)
Scratch all of that, I've re-named his account globally. He just needs to log out and back in and should be good to go as PC_Minecraft CrsBenjamin - (talk) User Wynthyst sig icon.png 19:00, 21 April 2015 (UTC)
PC Minecraft's problem finally resolved, thanks! — Agent NickTheRed37 (talk) 12:02, 11 June 2015 (UTC)

Problem with GRAND RADION also resolved. Although he appears to have a splitted account issue here. — Agent NickTheRed37 (talk) 08:34, 15 June 2015 (UTC)

Extreme cache on transcluded content[edit]

It seems right now that transcluded content does not update even when a template is edited, as it would be expected to and does on most other wikis (on some templates, even waiting a reasonable amount of time does not update).

It even affects pages with are barely transcluded, such as my sandbox being transcluded onto my other sandbox (to test this, I removed .js from the error, and it still shows on my sandbox. In a previous test purging the page updated the template, but it does not make sense for more widely used transclusions to go to each page purging them).

It also seems the API's forcerecursivelinkupdate parameter does not work to update the pages. KnightMiner t/c 16:20, 5 May 2015 (UTC)

There is a known issue currently with Mediawiki which requires a null edit on pages using templates / transcluded data which has changed. That's not just here, it's anywhere using the more recent releases of MW — Game widow (talk) 16:25, 5 May 2015 (UTC)
Do you have a link to the Wikimedia Phabricator task for the issue? Anomie x (talk) 16:50, 5 May 2015 (UTC)
I have asked and the platform team has been unable to provide me with such a link — Game widow (talk) 12:40, 7 May 2015 (UTC)

Incorrect interwiki linking on notifications[edit]

I have been recently mentioned on Template talk:Tweet and recieved a notification. I saw this notification in the German wiki and clicked on the link. The link however linked to Vorlage Diskussion:Tweet which is incorrect (because "Vorlage Diskussion" is the correspondenting namespace to "Template talk" on the German wiki). I assume this isn't a mediawiki issue (because I didn't find any bug reports about this at the phabricator) so I write this to you, so it can be fixed for the Gamepedia (it affects entire Gamepedia, although most Gamepedias are in English). This issue can be very annoying if you work at two (or more) wikis at the same time. | violine1101(Talk) 16:57, 15 June 2015 (UTC)

I also saw this, earlier (this time with Russian translations), just have either been lazy to report or something... — Agent NickTheRed37 (talk) 17:10, 15 June 2015 (UTC)
Was this an email notification with a link, or the echo notification system (little "bell" icon at the top right of the screen) ? — Game widow (talk) 19:39, 16 June 2015 (UTC)
This issue only is about the echo notification system. The namespaces in email notifications are correct. | violine1101(Talk) 19:58, 16 June 2015 (UTC)
Not sure if this is related, but I've also had a similar problem with the Global Watchlist. Clicking on a link to Minecraft Wiki talk:Community portal‎ from Advent of Ascension Wiki takes me to Advent_of_Ascension_Wiki_talk:Community_portal; Terraria Wiki does the same thing except to Terraria_Wiki_talk:Community_portal. Also, clicking on a link (while in Advent of Ascension Wiki) to [{{fullurl:Module:Blobs2}} Module:Blobs2] goes to [{{fullurl::Blobs2}} :Blobs2] instead (as the Lua extension has not been installed on that wiki). -Sonicwave (talk|c) 21:38, 16 June 2015 (UTC)

Anonymous user creation of pages[edit]

Can we disable anonymous user creation of pages? In the past, most anons just make a few passing changes while reading the wiki, and those who do create pages usaually just create spam pages and pages with violate MCW:NOTABILITY (or tend to request an article on the community portal instead of actually creating one). Thus, removing their creation of pages would greatly reduce the number of spam articles created without hindering the constructive edits which anons usually make.

I suggested the idea on the community portal, and had unanimous support there, so the community also seems in favor of the idea. KnightMiner t/c 02:04, 6 July 2015 (UTC)

QR code[edit]

Hello, for the purpose of advertising our wiki in the communitity, are we allowed to create QR code that links to the main wiki page and use it in the community? —Powup333 ZH Admin 04:29, 17 July 2015 (UTC)

Watchlist problem[edit]

Edits are being removed from my watchlist unexpectedly. The BlobsPaper.png 17:16, 20 July 2015 (UTC)

Pocket Edition Alpha 0.12.0 The BlobsPaper.png 15:23, 21 July 2015 (UTC)
Was this your local watchlist, or the Global watchlist (or both)? — Game widow (talk) 16:16, 21 July 2015 (UTC)
Also, I don't see anything really in the page history other than the protection being changed to avert edit wars. When did you add it to your watchlist? When it was first created as a redirection, or once it was a stand-alone page? — Game widow (talk) 16:23, 21 July 2015 (UTC)
It was my local watchlist, and I added it around June 15th. The BlobsPaper.png 15:05, 22 July 2015 (UTC)
If you check this diff you can see that the page was completely changed over that interval, and went from being a simple redirection to a full-fledged page. This is most likely the issue, so i would say that for that one page, this is not really much of a mystery. If some other page disappears from your watchlist with no such mitigating circumstances, then i'd say it's worth looking into — Game widow (talk) 15:54, 22 July 2015 (UTC)
A more detailed description is that when a page recives multiple edits in one day, the previous edit disappears, but the diff link only leads to the last change. The BlobsPaper.png 15:59, 22 July 2015 (UTC)
That is not a bug, that is a feature you have disabled. Go into your watchlist options and check "Expand watchlist to show all changes, not just the most recent".
I would also advise you if you have not already to enable the "Group changes by page in recent changes and watchlist" option, so you can view all changes to a page in your watchlist at the same time. KnightMiner t/c 18:55, 22 July 2015 (UTC)

Redirection problems on the Russian wiki[edit]

Hello. Curse may already be aware of this, but:

At least one anonymous user reports being redirected to some kind of "Create account" page when viewing the wiki, making them unable to properly interact with the site.

I have reasons to believe the anon's claims, because several registered users have reported being redirected to minecraft-ru.gamepedia.com/?loggedin=true when viewing the site, and I recall being redirected there a few times as well.

Also, my bot gets redirected to http://auth.curse.com/NetworkService.asmx/shareSession?from=http%3A%2F%2Fminecraft-ru.gamepedia.com%2Fextensions%2FCurseAuth%2FCookie.php%3Freturnto%3Dhttp%253A%252F%252Fminecraft-ru.gamepedia.com%252Findex.php when using index.php?action=raw to get page wikitext... and gets error code 403. This results in that the function which is supposed to return page wikitext returns an empty string, and the edit function attempts to blank the edited page. --GreenStone (talk) 10:27, 29 July 2015 (UTC)

I can also add that I sometimes, especially when I'm travelling and use my mobile phone to work with the wiki, get redirected to ?loggedin=true, which can be very annoying because I only have limited data volume. This however only happened on the German wiki yet. (I would also ping Majr because he's a Curse member as well but probably more active here.) | violine1101(Talk) 11:43, 29 July 2015 (UTC)
I deployed a hot fix earlier today for this issue. If this is still giving more problems please let us know. Azxiana (talk) 21:47, 29 July 2015 (UTC)

Achievement notification is a bit annoying[edit]

I recently moved a page in the German wiki and got a notification. However, although the message does disappear after some time, it appears again after reloading the page. Now, everytime I visit a page of the Gamepedia network, I get a message that I got an achievement for moving a page. Please consider to fix this bug or just move these notifications to the notifications area. PS: After visiting the English wiki, I get two notifications now: One about moving the page in the German wiki and another about editing my social profile. (Also, it seems like the wiki points achievements are not up to date.) | violine1101(Talk) 11:55, 5 September 2015 (UTC)

Does it have a different wiki title each time? For me, several achievements I have gotten keep reappearing under a different wiki name (as they are global profile achievements).
And the points achievements won't be up to date for quite a bit, as the system has to go over every user and evaluate if they have earned each of the points achievements. KnightMiner t/c 17:20, 5 September 2015 (UTC)

Brazilian Portuguese wiki admins[edit]

Hi! I'd like to know how can I become an admin on the Brazilian Portuguese Minecraft Wiki. Out of the two admins on there, one hasn't been around since 2013 and the other one since the start of August 2015, and the rest of the wiki is almost abandoned. I started contributing to the wiki this week, but I'll try to review all of the pages of that wiki to provide more correctly translated and updated information according to the English wiki. Could you please help me? Also there seems to be a problem with the blocks (blocos) template on the Brazilian wiki that makes the show (exibir) button appear on a second line instead of the same line as the edit (editar) button when viewing from a block's page. If you could help me with that as weel, I'd be very happy. Thank you! (I'm sorry if you're not the right person to ask this) --Mine4017 (talk) 22:21, 30 September 2015 (UTC)

adding references to pages[edit]

Hello, recently I got reports from our chinese wiki people that adding external references in pages would trigger a filter and need to use captcha to save the edit, however it seems like the China networks cannot load CAPTCHA, so there is no way for them to add any references to the pages. How to deal with the request to take down an article (with legal stuffs)[edit]

First of all, we're not actually having this problem. I've just thought I need to make this clear, just in case, so please don't take it too seriously.

Let's say we have this situation.

  1. A user posted an article about a game streamer.
  2. A lawfirm associated with the streamer found the article is offensive with the terms like defamation (whether the article states fact or not) and requested for me to take down the article, and they stated they will take some legal action if I don't.
  3. Of course I'm just an administrator, I don't own this wiki.

In this situation, can I redirect them to you (Curse), not doing what they requested? And in general, which law is applied, federal or Korean? —Alswo9628(4)ko.Admin (talk) 15:21, 6 May 2016 (UTC)

Never mind. Just fixed the problem. Had to change my preferences (which I've seemed to have forgotten about)... I suppose showing 500 edits over the course of 60 days is too much. xD -BDJP (t|c) 23:09, 13 May 2016 (UTC)
Phew :) — Game widow (talk) 23:11, 13 May 2016 (UTC)
I can confirm. I’ve once tried to load the recent changes with just 50 edits shown, but it didn’t work either. It only occurs on English Minecraft Wiki for some reason; I can read the Russian 500 recent changes finely. However, the 504 error rarely occurs on other pages, regardless of the wiki. I’ve already informed Curse via email to support@curse.com. — NickTheRed37 (issues’ wall) 15:39, 14 May 2016 (UTC)

Are you asking me to explain it to him, or are you telling me you have done so? Either way, it's not a political stance, it's a technical fact, our global filters apply globally, so they cannot be switched on or off for a single wiki. I have reported the problem and someone will check to see if the filter can be improved to not adversely affect Russian sites. Perhaps if you could give me an example of the sort of addition it is preventing, that would be useful — Game widow (talk) 15:34, 9 June 2016 (UTC)

about SSL connections for PROs[edit]

I suggest a opinion to switch https connection on or off. In some Internet-sensoring regions, this may be annoying and very laggy.a20001017Talk 05:47, 10 June 2016 (UTC)

Mobile view[edit]

When I use my iPad, I can go to the desktop view, but I soon as I go to another page, including an edit window, it goes back to the mobile view. This makes it hard to do things like minor edits. If you need a clarification, you can test this on your phone or tablet. The BlobsPaper.png 03:34, 17 June 2016 (UTC)

We are aware of this behaviour and looking into it. Essentially, the Mobile Front End (which is code controlled by Mediawiki) apparently fails to recognize your iPad as a mobile device. I will ask if there has been any progress on this front. — Game widow (talk) 13:10, 17 June 2016 (UTC)

"Crusher" extension appears to be breaking layout of the tables at Explosion#Blast resistance[edit]

The tables at Explosion#Blast resistance are supposed to be laid out side-by-side. It's not the greatest thing in multi-column layout, but it used to work. I noticed today that it isn't anymore. I tracked the problem down to the script at https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/extensions/Crusher/js/crusher.tables.js adding full-width divs around the tables (I guess it's trying to work around the horrible advertising sidebar non-"pro" people have to deal with, that takes up almost half the page?). Please fix. Thanks. Anomie x (talk) 18:30, 23 June 2016 (UTC)

I just pushed out the fix for this problem. Extension:Crusher is meant to help in general and not necessarily because of the side rail. The side rail simply helped to make an old problem more noticeable. Azxiana (talk) 20:56, 23 June 2016 (UTC)
I've passed along your concerns to the platform team. As for the siderail, it disappears completely if the screen width is less than 1000px, so at worst, it only ever takes less than 1/3 of the screen. — Game widow (talk) 19:38, 23 June 2016 (UTC)

Russian Minecraft Wiki[edit]

AttemptToCallNil’s activity fell considerably. He said that health problems are the cause. Fate of other Russian Minecraft Wiki administrators, Ivan-r and Asassin 1, remains unclear; they lost activity last month. One of Curse administrators has to look at that troubled wiki until he regains ability to do administrative tasks, at least by requests, or another able admin returns to the wiki.

Over two months ago I proposed there to assign a new administrator, and AttemptToCallNil pointed out that I was the most suiting user. In May 1 the proposition was declined, but it was said a future possibility for assignation may come after 6 months since the decision (ca. November 1 of current year) or after 2 weeks of administrators’ inactivity. I don’t seek for rights, but without an administrator the wiki may be abandoned, and I appear to be one of the most probable pretenders for the status. But please don’t try to make me an administrator there right now, it’s too early.

NickTheRed37 (issues’ wall) 14:28, 6 July 2016 (UTC)

I'm fine with you being admin, we can call for a vote, and of course get Majr in on the discussion — Game widow (talk) 15:23, 6 July 2016 (UTC)
Unfortunately, it appears that Majr also has low level of activity. So we need another free Curse employee to care about the wiki. This may be very important. — NickTheRed37 (issues’ wall) 16:17, 6 July 2016 (UTC)
I'm here every day, just because there's no edits that need making doesn't mean I'm not here. Reach a decision on your wiki, and then if needed, someone can be promoted. If there's not enough people around to reach a decision, I'll just promote an active user. MajrTalk

Because this has to be approved by the community, for which I have to submit the proposal, which can’t be done until July 18 or 19 because of the said decision (I’m still a controversial candidate for admin status). — NickTheRed37 (issues’ wall) 14:01, 9 July 2016 (UTC)

The first file (BabyPolarBear Preview.png) loads just fine for me. Our file system does not allow characters like "+" in image filenames — Game widow (talk) 16:47, 18 September 2016 (UTC)
The problem with the first file is that it can't be renamed. Is it possible to recover those 3 images? --dand0 (talk) 18:10, 18 September 2016 (UTC)
There are diacritics in the new name ("Белый медведь (детёныш)") ...that could be the problem, but i will ask the platform team. You could simply create a redirection from your desired name to the existing (english) filename. That should work for calls to the Russian filename. As for the other 3 images, i simply renamed them to filenames that don't use weird characters and they are fine — Game widow (talk) 19:00, 18 September 2016 (UTC)
ё should be a single Unicode character (0x0451?), like any other letter from the Russian alphabet. I don't recall any use of actual separate diacritic characters in file names (and I can't think of a reason to use them); and even if we did use such characters, why would that cause any problems? Are there known incidents involving such characters in MediaWiki file names, especially those incidents caused by bugs not fixed (or even not fixable) on Gamepedia wikis? --AttemptToCallNil, previously known as GreenStone (report bug, view backtrace) 05:55, 19 September 2016 (UTC)
I don't think ё has anything to do with the error, because the parents' version :ru:Файл:PolarBear Preview.png returns that error as well. --dand0 (talk) 08:08, 19 September 2016 (UTC)

Check this, please. — Ivan-r ru.Wiki Admin 14:37, 19 October 2016 (UTC)
Due to the way Global filters operate, we're not able to turn them completely off on a per wiki basis. We've disabled those we are able to. While these might be frustrating, they're easy enough to circumvent by telling the affected user to make three edits in their userspace. Typically I just go to User_talk:CrsBenjamin and write "test", submit, "test test", submit, "test test test", submit. I have to do it almost every day on a new wiki, takes about 10 seconds. CrsBenjamin - (talk) User Wynthyst sig icon.png 21:40, 19 October 2016 (UTC)
Actually, most stuff global filters get is bad. This is not, and it isn't even what the filter says it does. 42 seems to get a lot of false positives lately, as I have just seen in our abuse log, and the bad stuff it does catch is often also caught by other, local and global filters (up to a total of 8). Is it possible to set that filter to warn, not deny? In the link above, a user was trying to correct a declension error in an external link text. He has been denied 5 times on the article itself, and denied once more when he posted on the admin noticeboard (note that the noticeboard link was local). All of these edits have been rejected by global filter 42. --AttemptToCallNil, previously known as GreenStone (report bug, view backtrace) 22:01, 19 October 2016 (UTC)
Again though, a single edit to his user or user_talk page would have resolved the issue. Removing all GAF is not a good option because its removing a big blocker of spam, which comes in waves. CrsBenjamin - (talk) User Wynthyst sig icon.png 22:06, 19 October 2016 (UTC)
Looking closer, it was blocked because an http:// link, even to the same wiki, counts as external. If he'd used {{static link|Рельсы}} with a section anchor it would have been fine, so that would have been another option. CrsBenjamin - (talk) User Wynthyst sig icon.png 22:09, 19 October 2016 (UTC)

I would prefer to see an answer to the "warn, not deny" question for that specific filter. I do not favor indiscriminate global filter deactivation. Unfortunately, many new users won't have even basic wiki syntax skills. A site notice looks like the most potent method of conveying messages to users, and I will likely look into writing a message soon. --AttemptToCallNil, previously known as GreenStone (report bug, view backtrace) 22:28, 19 October 2016 (UTC)

Unfortunately, as of now that's just not an option available to us as far as I'm aware. One solution would be to add edit notices advising users what to do when they hit a filter? CrsBenjamin - (talk) User Wynthyst sig icon.png 23:12, 19 October 2016 (UTC)

About "Patrol" usergroup in Chinese Minecraft Wiki[edit]

Dear Game widow,

Hi! I am SteveZihang, a user in the Chinese Minecraft Wiki. Mathcrazy12345 is my friend. Some time ago, he sent a request to gamepedia, requesting adding a Patrol user group to our Wiki. However, he did not discuss with us before sending the request, leading to problems to the user rights of the user group. Therefore, I am sending this request to update the user rights of Patrol. The user group should have rollback, patrol, autopatrol, deletedtext, deletedhistory, block, deleterevision, delete, undelete and browsearchive rights, but currently it only has rollback, patrol and deleterevision rights. I hope you can help us update the user rights. Thank you very much!

SteveZihang 11:51, 18 October 2016 (UTC)

My team will be discussing this at our meeting tomorrow. I'll be in touch — Game widow (talk) 17:27, 18 October 2016 (UTC)
Recently, Chinese Minecraft Wiki has been suffering much vandalism. According to reliable sources, the attacker will continue doing harm to the wiki. I hope that we can have more people, besides those administrators and bureaucrats, to meet the attack. Ff98sha together with me, is the patroller of recent changes. In our opinion, we need more authorities, since the admins are not always online, to defend the wiki.

Blocking range of ip in Ru-Wiki[edit]

Because of the frequent cases of removing text and placing a spam request to block the whole ip range 5.228.*.* for a period of 2 weeks. Blocking individual ip addresses does not lead to success. Creating a filter abuse is not possible because of the specificity of the written text. translated by Yandex.Translate — Ivan-r ru.Wiki Admin 13:44, 21 November 2016 (UTC)

To clarify, the Russian site is targeted by unregistered users replacing article content with spam. Given that they are already using basic abuse filter circumvention (such as obfuscation of external links), I think they may adapt to fool more complex filters.
This spam attack appears to originate mostly (if not entirely) from two ranges, identified by WHOIS as 172.64.0.0/13 (CloudFlare) and 5.228.0.0—5.228.127.255 (Rostelecom). The spammers may be using more specific IP subsets. I would not block either range entirely. --AttemptToCallNil, previously known as GreenStone (report bug, view backtrace) 15:43, 21 November 2016 (UTC)
