Delete Bedrock Edition 1.4[edit]

Could you please delete Bedrock Edition 1.4? It's currently marked for deletion, but if you look at the history, you'll notice that IP addresses will not stop removing the deletion template and adding "Error, Bedrock Edition 1.4 upcoming in 2018." (It's happened a total of 10 times) There is no reference that there ever will be a Bedrock Edition 1.4, so I think it would be very helpful if the page could be deleted, and then be protected against creation. Thanks!--Madminecrafter12 TalkContributions 16:17, 3 February 2018 (UTC)

It's almost certainly a single person - and almost certainly the same person who was previously creating that page and the other fictitious update pages to boot. I've deleted the page and salted it for a year. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 17:46, 3 February 2018 (UTC)

Add script to MediaWiki:Common.js[edit]

The following script will fix the IE style bug in Minecraft Wiki/editcopy:

if(!!window.MSInputMethodContext && !!document.documentMode) { // https://stackoverflow.com/questions/21825157/internet-explorer-11-detection
  $('body.page-Minecraft_Wiki_editcopy #iefix').css('max-width', '1px');
  $('body.page-Minecraft_Wiki #iefix').css('max-width', '1px');
}

Can you add it to MediaWiki:Common.js? Thanks! – ITechieGamertce 10:47, 14 February 2018 (UTC)

What style bug is this exactly? Can you get a screenshot of it? Does it only affect IE 11? ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 11:27, 14 February 2018 (UTC)
Here's what the Minecraft Wiki homepage currently looks like in Internet Explorer: https://i.imgur.com/7R559NA.png. By adding the script mentioned to MediaWiki:Common.js, it will fix that bug. I don't know if only IE 11 is affected.
By the way, the script mentioned will add the max-width: 1px style to the HTML element tagged with the iefix ID. – ITechieGamertce 04:56, 17 February 2018 (UTC)

 Done, with some tweaks and related/ancillary edits. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 06:01, 17 February 2018 (UTC)

This protection will not stand[edit]

Could you please remove all move protection from Snow (layer)? "Top snow" is indeed an official name, as that's what it is called in Bedrock Edition. MarcelTheHippie (talkcontribslogsblock log) 🐷🥕☮️ 20:31, 19 February 2018 (UTC)

Not until the move has been discussed on the talk page and consensus has been reached for it. In particular, as long as the name is not "top snow" in Java Edition, I can't see a compelling argument for renaming. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 20:35, 19 February 2018 (UTC)
In response to your self-reverted edit, no single person has the ability to dictate a new title for an article which already has a well-established and supported title. As I said before, if you want the page renamed, establish consensus for the rename via a discussion on its talk page. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 04:39, 10 March 2018 (UTC)
I don't want the title to be changed; I simply want the move protection to be eradicated so that we non-admin editors can easily move the page ourselves if the in-game name ever changes in the future (without having to beg you guys first). You instated it after just one attempted rename, and I therefore consider it to be a wild overreaction that created an unnecessary obstacle to wiki maintenance. What do you think? MarcelTheHippie (talkcontribslogsblock log) 🐷🥕☮️ 06:23, 10 March 2018 (UTC)
Move-protecting pages with a well-established name in response to a single undiscussed rename is pretty standard operating procedure in my experience. The names of things do not generally change very often, so usually such protections do not inconvenience anyone but those looking to short-circuit the consensus process. If you disagree with the move protection in this particular instance, you're free to bring it to the admin noticeboard to get other admins' opinions on it, and again, if you can establish consensus for a rename on the page's talk page, the move will be performed regardless. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 07:55, 10 March 2018 (UTC)

Sorry[edit]

Sorry about that, I was in a mood. I feel the need to point out Wikipedia is a perfectly cromulent source. I used it because it's very accessible to the general public. The only reason I didn't use it for one source was because I found the Wikipedia article on the subject inadequate.--Giammod (talk) 01:27, 10 March 2018 (UTC)

Wikipedia is not an acceptable source, because it is a tertiary source, and because it uses an "anybody can edit" model (as most wikis do); see Wikipedia's own essay on the topic for more information. That being said, a source isn't really required to say the different coral types resemble certain real-life corals, though offering links (to Wikipedia or otherwise) which feature pictures of the real-life corals would help (though in this case, if you link to Wikipedia, it would be better to link directly to the image description pages on Wikimedia Commons than to a Wikipedia article). ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 04:36, 10 March 2018 (UTC)
Fair enough. Again: Sorry about all that, and thank you for your patience. Sometimes you have to take a couple paces aback and decide, "is this really the hill I want to die on: Coral phylogeny in Minecraft?" lol…--Giammod (talk) 17:32, 10 March 2018 (UTC)

Ukrainian Wiki[edit]

Hi Dinoguy, I'm one of the contributors "The Project Of The Ukrainian Translation". The question is that-how many articles need to be translated to get domain (minecraft-uk.gamepedia.com)?
I'll wait for your answer -- The nix18 (talk) 12:28, 1 April 2018 (UTC)

Hi The nix18, sorry for not responding sooner!
According to the translation guidelines on the Help wiki, the usual metric is that the main page and a handful of other pages have to be translated, and there needs to be someone willing to be an admin for the new wiki. In our case, though, I believe our last batch of translated wikis were created without requiring any extra pages to be translated, just the main page (though I'd definitely recommend to have some other pages translated too, first). When you think you've met the requirements, ask game widow, our current wiki manager and Curse liaison, to get things set up for you. Good luck! ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 08:21, 4 April 2018 (UTC)
Hi there. Additionally, this wiki is one of the largest we have, so I do hope you have a team to help you as a single person is unlikely to ever be able to translate this entire wiki single-handedly — Game widow (talk) 11:40, 4 April 2018 (UTC)
Main page already translated. I have a team that helps me with the translation of the game on Crowdin. I can take on the responsibilities of the administrator. -- The nix18 (talk) 16:11, 6 April 2018 (UTC)

Noob Problems[edit]

Hello, your user page says you've been around the block (no Minecraft pun intended) a couple times, and I suck at source editing, so could you let me in on some basic Wiki lingo? Is it a common coding language (if so, CSS, right?), or is it something unique to Gamepedia?

Twh minecrafter (talk) 00:45, 4 April 2018 (UTC)Twh_minecrafter

I'm not Dinoguy1000, but I can tell you what I know. Almost all of the language the source editor for Gamepedia is written in is the same as what's used on almost all other wikis, from fandom wikis to Wikipedia. From what I know, the basis of wiki-text is HTML, although many other languages such as CSS are also added to enhance wiki-text better (somebody please correct me if I'm wrong about this). A helpful article about wiki text is the WP:Wikitext article on Wikipedia. Additionally, there are many editors on the Minecraft Wiki, including me, and definitely Dinoguy1000, that are rather familiar with wikitext and will probably be able to help you with what you need help with. Personally, I'm knowledgeable with basic wikitext, but I am a completely newbie when it comes to Lua or JavaScript, although those are both stuff you're probably not going to get involved with until you've been on wikis for quite a while.-- Madminecrafter12Orange Glazed Terracotta.pngTalk to meLight Blue Glazed Terracotta.png 01:06, 4 April 2018 (UTC)
There are a lot of sources you can use to learn how to edit a wiki. For instance our own Help:Contents, Gamepedia's Help:Contents, MediaWiki.org's Help:Contents, or even Wikipedia's Help:Contents if you really want to know everything. There are loads of links on these pages to others that can help you with pretty much everything. – Jack McKalling [ User page Talk page Contributions ] 08:14, 4 April 2018 (UTC)
If you'd like to experiment with the markup, you can do so on your userpage, on this wiki's sandbox, or on Wikipedia's sandbox. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 08:23, 4 April 2018 (UTC)

Unsalt Bedrock Edition 1.4[edit]

Hi there! I, ironically, was the person who requested that the page be deleted, but as you can see from the move template that has been placed on the Bedrock Edition 1.3 page, you will see that it has been revealed that it will actually be Bedrock Edition 1.4. However, I can't move it because Bedrock 1.4 is prevented from being created.-- Madminecrafter12Orange Glazed Terracotta.pngTalk to meLight Blue Glazed Terracotta.png 23:01, 10 April 2018 (UTC)

I went ahead and just renamed the page myself, since there wasn't much point in removing the protection and leaving the rename to someone else. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 00:17, 11 April 2018 (UTC)

Revertion of the "random youtuber" videos.[edit]

Hi Dinoguy1000. I've seen all the revertion you did to the addition of update videos, I'm surely going to redo them, because this "random youtuber" you call is actually slicedlime, a Mojang Staff Member, so you revertion is no longer valid. Hugman 76 (talk) 14:49, 13 April 2018 (UTC)

Hi Hugman 76, this was already pointed out in the comments on my user profile, though I do appreciate you taking the time to tell me yourself. However, as was also pointed out in the comments, our current video policy doesn't really allow for embedding any videos that weren't uploaded by Curse, so please don't readd the videos without discussing changing the policy on the community portal (personally, I fully support expanding it to include videos uploaded by any official accounts, including devs or Mojang/Microsoft/4J Studios/etc. corporate accounts). ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 15:06, 13 April 2018 (UTC)
Just want to say it's not an "official" account. It's a personal account from a dev. There's a difference.
Not saying I'm against it, just clearing this up. --Pepijn (talk) 15:11, 13 April 2018 (UTC)
Yes, good point. This is one reason I'm encouraging a discussion on this before making any changes: part of the discussion is going to be deciding which accounts, and/or under what circumstances, we want to allow on the wiki. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 17:53, 13 April 2018 (UTC)
Okay then... but how could I disscut about it? Where can I do it? Hugman 76 (talk) 18:47, 13 April 2018 (UTC)
Hugman 76, I would suggest creating a new topic at Minecraft Wiki talk:Community portal asking the opinions of other users, and then add a request for comment on the community portal page linking to that section on its talk page. Personally, I fully support this idea, but I would recommend discussing first.-- Madminecrafter12Orange Glazed Terracotta.pngTalk to meLight Blue Glazed Terracotta.png 18:51, 13 April 2018 (UTC)
Okay, I'm going to create the developed topic tommorow, thanks for the help, Madminecrafter12! Hugman 76 (talk) 22:18, 13 April 2018 (UTC)

Mob/video edit request[edit]

Could you please edit the Mob/video page as I've explained here, or explain to me why this shouldn't be done (either way's fine, it would just be nice to know)? I've brought this up here, here, here, as well as several times on Slack, but I still haven't gotten a reply from an admin nor has the task been done, despite me first requesting this almost 3 1/2 months ago. I really completely understand if there's a reason why this isn't being done, but it would be very nice to know if this is the case. Thanks so much, and happy editing. Best regards, -- Madminecrafter12Orange Glazed Terracotta.pngTalk to meLight Blue Glazed Terracotta.png 21:31, 14 April 2018 (UTC)

Done. I can't really say why this wasn't done before, generally. It would be nice if {{Video note}} could be reworked to play nicely with the inline-block pseudogallery thing that page has going on, but that's not a big enough issue to have prevented this note being added. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000
Great! Like I said, I've been waiting for this for almost 3 1/2 months, so I appreciate this finally being added to the page. :)-- Madminecrafter12Orange Glazed Terracotta.pngTalk to meLight Blue Glazed Terracotta.png 12:17, 15 April 2018 (UTC)

Trademark violation?[edit]

The page Tutorials/Building a cruise ship displays two non-Curse YouTube videos. The first of these videos displays the trademark of Royal Caribbean International, although the video itself is not a promotion for the company or its products. Is it a trademark violation to display someone's trademark on the site in this indirect way? (The other video mentions Carnival Cruise Line, but doesn't display a trademark.) – Auldrick (talk · contribs) 23:20, 23 April 2018 (UTC)

I don't think it's problematic, but this would definitely be something to ask Gamepedia staff instead just to be sure; pinging Game widow, who can forward it on as needed (for clarity, this is the video in question). ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 02:46, 24 April 2018 (UTC)

Bedrock version numbers for non-iOS platforms[edit]

When I saw that the version number for Windows 10 and other non-iOS platforms had been updated to 1.2.16 on the main page, I thought a new release had happened so I went to the Windows Store to download it. There was no release, however, and the store's Recent Activity list for my computer only showed the 19 April download of 1.2.13.60. Researching, I found you had updated Module:Version/Numbers on 22 April with the edit summary "Bedrock Edition 1.2.16 (non-iOS tracks display it as 1.2.13.60, but we don't have any sort of display name functionality here)". This suggests to me that you think we non-iOS users actually have the 1.2.16 release but that it displays a false version number. I don't think this is true; 1.2.16 was never distributed anywhere but the Apple Store to my knowledge. Am I missing some technical reason the numbers needed to be updated? – Auldrick (talk · contribs) 23:48, 23 April 2018 (UTC)

I was going by the Bedrock Edition 1.2.16 article, which claims that the update was distributed to non-iOS platforms with the version number 1.2.13.60; this seems to be confirmed by the source in the article. I didn't mean for my edit summary to suggest that the version number is "false" or anything of the sort. In retrospect, it might be appropriate to link through the redirect at Bedrock Edition 1.2.13.60 instead, since I agree it's currently misleading. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 02:40, 24 April 2018 (UTC)

Rename[edit]

Why did you revert my edit?,It's inconsistent because there is 1.2.20 build 1,2 and then a sudden 1.4 build 10,What's so inappropriate about that? --TheCreeperStrikes (talk) 03:14, 27 April 2018 (UTC)

I removed the notice because it's not our job to decide on names (regardless of whether it's to establish consistency or for any other reason), but only to document official information. In this particular case, no official source has referred to the build as 1.4 build 9, so we can't either. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 05:57, 27 April 2018 (UTC)

Autopatrol rights[edit]

Hi! Are you able to give the autopatrol right to Sealbudsman, Sonicwave32, and Yanis48? All of these users have always made constructive edits and I'm confident that they will in the future. It's very rare that I find myself having to fix something from any of their edits, and I've never had to revert any of them. I personally would find it helpful if their edits automatically marked as patrolled when I'm patrolling Special:RecentChanges, and I think it's likely that other admins would as well.-- Madminecrafter12Orange Glazed Terracotta.pngTalk to meLight Blue Glazed Terracotta.png 02:22, 1 June 2018 (UTC)

Point of order -- If I had auto patrol, it only makes patrollers skip edits I make, is that correct? It doesn't make patrollers skip edits that I merely view, correct? – Sealbudsman talk | contribs 03:46, 1 June 2018 (UTC)
Because I skim and often don't have time to correct something I merely view. – Sealbudsman talk | contribs 03:47, 1 June 2018 (UTC)
Autopatrol only applies to your own edits, yes. To manually patrol an edit requires an intentional action (or at least an accidental misclick) on the part of an admin, when viewing an unpatrolled revision. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 03:49, 1 June 2018 (UTC)

Inactive admins progress[edit]

Ok, so here are the inactive admins that I've notified so far:

  • IKJames. I messaged them and emailed them over a week ago, and no reply. If you agree, it's probably OK to demote them now. Also, they haven't edited in 7 whole years, which is actually years longer than any of the other inactive admins.
  • Hower64. Notified them 3 days ago or so - again, no reply. Probably should wait a few more days though.
  • Kanegasi. Messaged them and emailed them just now.

What should be done with IKJames' userpage? It currently still says that he's an admin, which could possibly be interpreted as impersonalisation by other users (which it is not, it's just outdated). – Jack McKalling [ Talk Contrib ] 12:15, 4 June 2018 (UTC)
Userpages should be updated as necessary. Nonadmins claiming to be admins on their userpages is something we wouldn't tolerate from a rando who's only made 10 edits, there's no reason to have a double-standard even for former admins. That being said, I'd say to change it just to "former admin", rather than removing it outright; if IK (or any other inactivity-demoted admin) returns down the line and wants to change it somehow, they'd be free to do so. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 02:26, 7 June 2018 (UTC)
