Non-crafting uses for gold[edit]

Blocks of gold can be used to build a beacon pyramid.

Before 0.12.1, blocks of gold were used to make nether reactors.

Cleric villagers buy gold.

Tools and weapons[edit]

Golden axes, pickaxes, shovels, swords, and armor have a relatively low durability, but have an extremely high enchantability. Golden tools also mine blocks faster than diamond tools.

When gold is applied to food, the food is enhanced in various ways. For example, golden apples apply superpowers to the player. Golden apples and carrots also restore more hunger and/or saturation than their normal variant. They restore health for horses and activate love mode. Normal apples restore significantly more health than golden ones, do not eat normal carrots at all.

Glistering melons are not edible, but they can be used in potions. Golden carrots are also a potion ingredient.

Clocks and golden weighted pressure plates detect an external input and produce a quantitative output.

Powered rails can push minecarts without consuming a stick.
