Anvil Spawning[edit]

I was in creative mode, and I used an Anvil to repair a used enchanted Iron Sword with Iron Ingots. For some reason, a Zombie Villager was attacking me shortly afterward, even though I was inside my base. It had the outfit of a Blacksmith, and I believe the area around the Anvil was fairly unlit. Also, even though I was in creative mode, the Zombie Villager kept pursuing me, but it of course did no damage. Other things to note: I was in a mountain biome, indoors, during the nighttime. Confirm please!

On my creative multiplayer superflat server, I have confirmed the attacking in creative mode. I have put my own article. I was going to add it to the Trivia page, but I wanted to know if anyone else had known about it. 121.216.98.182 03:07, 22 April 2014 (UTC)

Zombie: Hostile or neutral?[edit]

I was building my house in 1.1 and a zombie was in it and it DIDN'T kill me! I attacked the zombie and it started attacking me. Can someone please clarify this?

Were you playing on Creative mode? -- Orthotope 12:59, 24 January 2012 (UTC)

Maybe it didn't see you (Xbox gamer tag dextroUsframe play minecraft 14:40, 11 June 2012 (UTC))

Simple explanation: I have encountered this before. Zombies share some of the same data as zombie pigmen. Zombie pigmen are neutral until attacked. Sometimes the coding gets messed up, and a regular zombie will act as if it were a zombie pigmen (With the exception of no golden sword). --Nick62703 20:03, 9 July 2013 (UTC)

Chunk Rendering?[edit]

I made a nomad world, and was traveling. I was at least 3000 blocks from the spawn point. In the middle of the day, I entered a desert. Far in the distance, I saw fire animation, then it went away. I thought nothing of it. A few minutes later, not enough for items to despawn, I saw rotten flesh in that spot. I realize it probably a zombie that caught on fire from the sun, but what was it doing there in the first place? It was the first time I loaded the chunk playing. 72.209.199.2 21:28, 13 June 2012 (UTC)

It's totally normal, at night time when I was playing survival, I look out on to the distance then turned my back for 4-5 seconds and looked at the distance again then a creeper was right in front of me! So yeah, it isn't a chunk error it was probably just a zombie who was at a dark position in the morning then it must've wandered off onto the desert then died because of the sun. Thanks! User:H_Drake | talk contribs

I realize that, but how would the zombie have spawned (or moved) in a chunk that had never been loaded before, day or night? 72.209.199.2 21:46, 30 December 2012 (UTC)

Zombies surviving in caves?[edit]

Hi i just read that zombies only die at day if they are in sunlight. Does this mean that i can find zombies, say underground even through its day on the surface? --Taurentius 13:24, 5 February 2011 (UTC) Yes this does, they spawn anywhere the light level is below seven, so they will spawn in caves even if it's broad daylight out. Timberdoodle 11:30, 9 May 2011 (UTC)

"Their attack deals 3 hearts of damage."[edit]

Is this statement really correct? A quick look at {{static link|Health/Damage#Damage_Inflicted_by_Mobs}} says they deal 1.5/2.5/3.5 (easy/normal/hard) hearts of damage. It would be great if someone could confirm or deny a change in damage calculations. --DrPhil 01:44, 6 November 2010 (UTC)

Yep! Unless you are wearing armour. At Hard difficulty all the mobs definitely have their attack damage higher. Thanks!User:H_Drake | talk contribs

Questionable statement[edit]

"As of the September 3, 2009 update, zombies are the fastest mobs in the game." Is this statement correct? I remember spiders being a lot faster (but possibly due to their jumping behaviour). Even if so, it should be rewritten. --BlueLegion 15:05, 10 November 2010 (UTC)

That was before spiders were added. Zombies and skeletons were both the second mob added to the game. SuperNaw ~ the creator of the city dimension. 21:03, 21 November 2012 (UTC)

Feathers[edit]

Why do they drop feathers?

They drink Red Bull. Karsten 11:53, 21 November 2010 (CST

Thats probably also why they're dead. ICantThinkOfAGoodUsername 20:01, 15 January 2011 (UTC) In all seriousness, they dropped feathers because Notch didn't know what to make them drop before he added chickens. Daniels Grant1 13:11, 9 August 2011 (UTC)Daniels_Grant1

I believe they were orignally just a reskin of the chickens with similar, if not identical behavior at first. I am not 100% certain on this though. -- Choolio123 11:18, 9 February 2012
I found it funny to believe when the zombies aren't chasing you, they're pulling feathers out of chickens and sticking them into their rotting shirt BazzarLarry 16:26, 25 August 2012 (UTC)

The truth is Zombies dropped feathers before 1.8 because notch did not know what zombies should have dropped. SuperNaw ~ the creator of the city dimension. 21:06, 21 November 2012 (UTC)

Zombies being slow?[edit]

http://twitter.com/#!/notch/status/124246851896619008 Notch twitted that today, just wondering if its a hint zombies could be slower in the future than they are now? What do you think? --Throex TALK|CONT 22:22, 12 October 2011 (UTC)

Multiple Health Totals Given[edit]

Is there any reason why we have to list the health from both before and after 1.9 pre-release 3, instead of just the health as it stands now? 76.22.15.178 05:47, 27 November 2011 (UTC)

(responding to an old comment) It was a prerelease. However, the accepted standard has changed for snapshots. HotdogPi

0-5 Feathers?[edit]

Why does it say zombies used to drop 0-5 feathers? I've played before 1.8 and they dropped 0-2 feathers.

Jesus Christ that was messy. Anyway… yes, that appears to be minor vandalism. Carry on. Shellface 00:46, 10 December 2011 (UTC)

Zombie growl[edit]

How far away can you hear zombie growls?

I think it's 16 blocks, see: Mob#Trivia --mgr 15:56, 28 January 2012 (UTC)

I've heard a zombie from about 200 blocks away. It also began to follow me to attack from about that far. --Noa-constrictor 02:31, 7 July 2013 (UTC)

attacking skeletons[edit]

I was messing around in creative (in the latest release) and a skeleton shot a zombie, but the zombie didn't attack the skeleton. Was that something that was supposed to happen or a bug? would some other people mind testing this? --Minecraftdino 18:17, 29 February 2012 (UTC)

I tested it from closest to farthest length when the skeleton shot the zombie close up the zombie killed it. when the skeleton shot the zombie from far away it just stood there so i think that it depends on how far or how close the skeleton and the zombie were for it to kill that mob--enderman482026 02:53, 16 March 2013 (UTC)

That's so a bug. If any mob is attacked by a skeleton, with the exception of creepers, will target the skeleton. Zombies normally do, so that has a 99.95% chance of being a bug. --Noa-constrictor 02:37, 7 July 2013 (UTC)

Path finding of mobs does not work for gaps between glass planes and iron bars[edit]

Even though the distance between glass planes and iron bars is (almost) equal to one block, the path finding does not work. They will act like they are solid blocks, only coincidental they get across these gaps.

That's because there path-finding looks for air blocks to walk through. Since there is no air blocks, even though there is space, the zombie wont try to walk through it. Same thing with a half slab on the floor and an upside down slab on the roof. the gap is big enough to walk through but is technically not an "air block". ZeCraftyMiner 20:55, 3 June 2012 (UTC)

Wow, thanks CraftyMiner, that explains why We can do what they cannot.. that and our own different "size" characteristics, probably. So how about: "the ability to 'see' through windows" yes, can they officially see through doors? I thought I said (how about a link to this?) in "(Zombie?) Siege(s? #'s uncertain, there, too)," they can see through wooden doors. Onto the Iron doors, below.. . June 6, 2012 Yilante.

Zombies and Iron doors[edit]

I know they can't brake them but It count in one contraption I maked. Firstly If you walk on top of a "doors bridge", (whatever the situation, the doors looking like one line or parallel lines) you don't fall ( In the case of doors looking like parallel line if you stop, you fall ... ).

Zombies know about they could walk on top of doors, but try only if the doors are not redstone powered.

Additionnaly, if you put your doors parallel, they simply fall when passing the first door.

Finnaly, if you make one line, if they came from the same direction the door facing, they could walk on top of them for 3 doors ( they try to be more centered relative to the block center ), if they came from the oposite direction, they try but fall because are on the top block of the door, but not not the door itself.

For making a good door bridge, simply make 2 lines (4 lenght) of parallel iron doors that when powered they make only one line. Then put redstone for powering them. so the two part are mob protected.

Chance of drops[edit]

Does anyone know what the chance of the various rare drops are? The wiki doesn't seem to say anywhere. I think it's fairly clear they only drop when hand killed by the player, though. Pi4t 18:42, 4 June 2012 (UTC)

See Drops#Rare drops for all of the relevant probabilities. —kpreid 19:41, 4 June 2012 (UTC)

Rare drops is iron armor parts and tools.

Why cant I do harm to zombies?[edit]

I just finished building a zombie xp grinder. If I co in to the spawner room, the zombies will attack me and I will be able to kill it. But when they flow down through my trap and hit the end of the drop, they glitch out or something. The stand there and just look around, and my fist/sword/whole body goes through right through them with out damage to either of us. After a bit, they just disappear. Is there anything I can do to fix this? --Maripi 3:29, 2 April 2012 (UTC)

Must be some world corruption or a bug. Anoymonous august 2012

There are outstanding bugs in 1.3.2 (see what's now the Issues page) where monsters glitch in various ways -- walking through walls and wading though floors, and "astral projecting" to different locations. Mob spawners do seem particularly affected. --Mental Mouse 11:36, 26 August 2012 (UTC)

They might be in a different place than they look. HotdogPi 20:11, 8 March 2013 (UTC)

Should Zombie Villagers get their own page?[edit]

Should Zombie Villagers get their own page as mobs, I think they are different enough to count as a new mob.

No. a extra section maybe. Datei:ViSig.png iLeon (Disk) 23:53, 9 August 2012 (UTC)
If it is a different entity, it should get its own page. Zombie Pigman got. IllidanS4 (talkcontribslogs) 16:43, 10 August 2012 (UTC)

Well, there is already a pretty cheap Zombie Villager Page. Somebody should remove it. And can somebody work on the new section soon?

I don't think so, the two mobs are identical in all aspects except appearance, and the fact one can be cured. But then again, cave spiders get there own page. {{static link|Fummy|Fummy}} 21:04, 12 August 2012 (UTC)

They also have an increased chance to have armor and weapons, I believe, and there are baby ones. I think they're different enough to have their own page. Why do different dyes have their own page, despite being the same item, yet two different mobs shouldn't? Sedrick Stevenson 03:52, 24 August 2012 (UTC)

Cave spiders are a different monster with different capabilities (1×1×1 size, poison), and the dyes have different origins. That said, I agree that the Zombie Villagers should get their own page -- different potential origin, different drops, babies, and curable to boot. --Mental Mouse 11:33, 26 August 2012 (UTC)

I say Zombie Villagers should have their own page when the full release is out--189.230.227.217 22:53, 5 September 2012 (UTC)

curing villager zombies?[edit]

according to the wiki it takes a potion of weakness and a golden apple to cure them, but whenever I try this the red swirls happen but all they do is start jittering, still zombified. I was wondering if anyone else has found a third step? I've tried with both types of apples and potions, both of the potions seem to work but only the golden nugget apple creates red swirls, and eventually the red swirls turn grey again. Can anyone help me? 71.168.88.147 00:49, 10 August 2012 (UTC)

It takes a while, eventually they will become villagers again. Just wait A long time.

I waited all night, and it didn't happen. The potions didn't affect them properly, either. I had to quit and reload the world to be able to see them as being under the weakness effect. And then they never changed when I used the apple on them. I tried it with four different zombies, and the results (or lack thereof) were the same every time.

Wiki needs to say that you only have to click with a golden apple equipped on a zombie villager, they dont need to eat it! but will if you keep clicking. The spirals change colour and there is a sound effect to show that the apple has worked. 19:13, 23 November 2012 (UTC)~~cannajan19:13, 23 November 2012 (UTC)

Zombie rare item dropping in 12w23a[edit]

It says on the wiki page in the 12w23a section that zombies carrying weapons and armour have a chance to drop them if they have them. But I have tested many zombies to find ones with items, and none of them have dropped their weapons/armour on death. Has anyone ever actually seen them drop the items? {{static link|Fummy:Fummy}} 21:09, 12 August 2012 (UTC)

I assume you mean 12w32a, not 12w23a. I have been testing with batches of ~300 zombies, and I usually only get two or three weapon/armor drops. Also, you have to kill them yourself, you cant let a golem or mob grinder do it. I used Splash Potions of Healing to kill them en masse. It seems like (on hard) ~5% of zombies are wearing or holding some item, and they only drop said item ~10% of the time. Also, I find occasional dropped Iron Bars fron killing Zombies, so the Rare Drop system may still be (partially) in effect. - Michael, 15 August 2012

Iron ingots can drop even if they're not wearing/holding anything. And they're different from Iron Bars.

Are the iron ingots included in things that can't be mob grinder'd, or is it just the tools/weapons? My main motivation for making a grinder is the iron. 96.48.205.11 02:29, 3 April 2013 (UTC)

I play Minecraft 1.6, and almost 75% of the time Zombies drop equipped items upon death. --Noa-constrictor 03:25, 7 July 2013 (UTC)

Zombie Armor Sunblock[edit]

Although the helmet will take damage and eventually disappear, and then the zombie will burn. HotdogPi 20:11, 8 March 2013 (UTC)

So have I! But it's only the helmet that protects the Zombie from burning. Still, I agree with HotdogPi. --Noa-constrictor 03:34, 7 July 2013 (UTC)

Addition to Bugs About Damage Enhancement[edit]

The last addition to bugs by Orreven looks to me to be intended rather than a bug, but I haven't heard of that at all. In fact, it sounds pretty awesome as an added challenge to weapon-holding zombies, ignoring the fact that the zombie pigmen didn't get a damage boost from their gold swords. If other people can actually confirm this and get a word from Mojang, we may have a new change here, if it isn't a bug. --User:Kanegasi User_talk:KanegasiSpecial:Contributions/Kanegasi 22:46, 12 September 2012 (UTC)

Nevermind. That user and I missed this exact thing in the History table. --User:Kanegasi User_talk:KanegasiSpecial:Contributions/Kanegasi 00:47, 13 September 2012 (UTC)

Zombies bang on iron doors?[edit]

While I was looking through the sound files, I found 3 new ogg files, entitled metal1.ogg, metal2.ogg, and metal3.ogg. These are all in a folder called zombie, and are above the files for wooden door sounds. From this, I conclude that zombies will eventually try to break iron doors, and make a sound while doing so. Hope it's true!

Elf03413 23:21, 12 September 2012 (UTC)

You WANT that to happen? HotdogPi 20:11, 8 March 2013 (UTC)

Zombies breaking stuff like THAT!? That's IMPOSSIBLE!!! --Noa-constrictor 04:10, 7 July 2013 (UTC)

Zombies not picking up items?[edit]

Well, i was playing in creative and I tried to throw some items at it so it can pick them, but it didn't pick it up! I am on the latest snapshot, and an zombie DID grab an egg that was dropped by a chicken. so it's just me. Is it a bug, or it's just because i'm on creative? 200.60.254.86 00:19, 25 September 2012 (UTC)

24.9.250.49 05:32, 28 November 2012 (UTC)I have seen a zombie pick a dirt block up recently but I'm not sure why. After I killed it, I was able to pick up the block as it just dropped out of the zombie's hand. -Blazethefierc

Only some zombies can pick up items. HotdogPi 20:11, 8 March 2013 (UTC)
i think zombies & skeletons & zombiepigman wither skeletons can only pick up items that are dropped when a player,or mob dies and that they can pick up items that naturally get dropped chicken naturally drop eggs and i know this because ive tried this before with the help of some friends--enderman482026 03:35, 16 March 2013 (UTC)

Split page[edit]

I think zombie villagers should have thier own page. What do you think?124.62.109.70 18:40, 30 September 2012 (UTC)

  • Technically, they are both zombies with only slightly altered textures and models. they used to have their own page, but this was quickly merged with the zombie page. Trigger hurt 21:30, 30 September 2012 (UTC)

Yeah, tell that to a wither skeliton.

  • Well, they will probably merge the pages once 1.4 comes out. I can understand why they are separate, although i will see if they can merge them. Trigger hurt 14:04, 4 October 2012 (UTC)
No, they are just zombies. There is nothing special about them other than their skin. If Wither Skeleton gets merged into the main Skeleton page, which is different from a normal Skeleton, then a Zombie Villager, which is no different from a normal Zombie, stays in the Zombie page. --User:Kanegasi User_talk:KanegasiSpecial:Contributions/Kanegasi 14:09, 4 October 2012 (UTC)

Well, W. skelitons:Inflict wither effect are not useing bow at default, and only spawn in nether. skelitons:Shoot arrows at default. same:can spawn in nether and are ugly and undead. Zombie Armor dependant of Difficulty?[edit]

I have been playing Minecraft on Normal for some time and have noticed that the undead (including Zombies) never wear any armour tier higher than gold. Is this a true phenomenon or is this just because I haven't seen any other armour yet.

Also, I think that the undead should wear armour more often than they do now, or that the drop rate of armour when Zombies are wearing it is increased. 71.7.254.245 11:43, 2 October 2012 (UTC)

  • Well, now that i think about it, when you join a server, how many people do you see in diamond armor? there is a 75% chance over half the people on the survival server do not. the rest are using either iron, leather, gold, chainmail (for admins or lucky ppls), or nothing at all. Plus, you are on normal difficulty, you will not find any diamond armor zombies on normal. Trigger hurt 20:44, 2 October 2012 (UTC)
  • I don't play SMP. However, can zombies wear iron armour in normal? I myself always use iron armour because it's tough and easy to get. 71.7.254.245 21:07, 2 October 2012 (UTC)
  • You obviously did not see my point. The idea of zombies not having very good armor on normal is because better armor is harder to find. A zombie's armor depends on difficulty. On easy, they will not have armor. On normal, the will not use diamond tools or armor, I believe. But on hard, they have access to all armor and weapons. However they will still be able to collect items on the ground. Trigger hurt 13:59, 4 October 2012 (UTC)
  • Ahh, now I understand. The commonness of Zombie armor goes in this order: Leather -- Gold -- Iron -- Diamond -- Chainmail(?). I myself have seen many Zombies with Leather and Gold armour, but only a few with iron and none with diamond in normal. Note that the ? in the chainmail armour means that I don't know if chainmail is the rarest Zombie armour. Also I don't know if you see chain armour on Zombies and Skeletons in normal. 71.7.254.245 14:20, 9 October 2012 (UTC)
  • It is a basic system: Take a look at the Armor page, chainmail is only stronger than gold armor by a single point of armor (Half Armor.svg) on the leggings, therefor i believe the rarity order would go like this: Leather - Gold - Chain - Iron - Diamond. However mob armor on zombies is dependant on difficulty, since on easy they have no armor, normal they should not have Diamond armor and probably not iron armor, but on hard they can spawn with all tools. Trigger hurt 14:58, 9 October 2012 (UTC)
  • They can spawn with any armor on normal or hard, but iron is about 1 in 60 and diamond is about 1 in 1000, if it's wearing armor. HotdogPi 20:11, 8 March 2013 (UTC)

I see lots of Zombies with armor, even on easy difficulty. --Noa-constrictor 04:19, 7 July 2013 (UTC)

Zombies holding items incorrectly[edit]

I noticed that, because of their arms being raised and with the new addition of zombies holding items, that they seem to hold them wrong. See the recently added images in the gallery, such as the last two. They appear holding items sideways, however it is correct to players. I believe that this should be changed, so that zombies and other mobs hold them more like they should, item specifically, because weapons and tools that they hold look fine. Also since i cannot get access to a pc: If anyone could, show me that zombies can hold and use bows. I know they can use everything else (well besides fishing rods, i'd like to see how they used those), but i have not seen one use a bow. Trigger hurt 18:36, 4 October 2012 (UTC)

I dont think they use bows :/

Maybe because you aren't using a PC, since you don't have access to one, there will be more bugs. I've never experienced this happening to my Minecraft game. --Noa-constrictor 04:26, 7 July 2013 (UTC)

12w40a Texture Pack Broken Texture Pictures[edit]

I am aware that the trivia says that zombie textures are broken in texture packs, but can we get some pictures? I took a couple, but it's from far away and I have no idea how to post them. So far, I've seen two different glitches, one of which where the head is at the bottom. There might be more than two, but not of what I've seen. --Superfloxes 03:19, 7 October 2012 (UTC)

  • I only have seen broken textures with Zombie Pigmen, but not with ordinary zombies, example: I use a texture pack that i have been developing for a month or so, it is 16 bit, and i am terrible at drawing. It is supposed to be a HL2 style, so far: Golden swords are stunsticks, to go along with zombie pigmen being Metropolice, so they by default wield one. Bows are (obviously) crossbows, and skeletons Combine because they hold crossbows. Zombies are the HL2 style zombies instead of regular, and a few more items were changed. I would show this normally, but i can't get on my PC right now. The only glitched texture i saw was for zombie pigmen, I am unsure why. I have posted the texture glitch on the Zombie Pigman page. Trigger hurt 15:02, 9 October 2012 (UTC)
    • Use MCPatcher (HD Texture Fix), that mod fixes all zombie texture problems automatically depending on the minecraft version / snapshot, regardless if the texture pack has 64x64 or 64x128 zombie textures. --80.134.4.219 15:06, 9 October 2012 (UTC)
  • Thanks! I use MCpatcher alot, but i have not been installing mods recently because the PC's at school suck balls. Trigger hurt 17:22, 9 October 2012 (UTC)
    • Okay, turns out that the two versions of glitches are the same. --Superfloxes 07:52, 21 October 2012 (UTC)
  • I have discovered WHY textures are messed up. For Zombies and Zombie Pigmen the scale of their texture file was changed from 32x64 pixels to 64x64 pixels, the textures themselves remain at the top. I can see why this was changed, as in the zombie villager file, it looks the same with the zombie villager head just below the regular zombie's textures. Unlike on the top part, the surrounding areas for the zombie villager head do not add hats. I am unsure why this was changed for zombie pigmen, unless they plan to add another type of mob that shares textures with the original. Trigger hurt 18:25, 22 October 2012 (UTC)

Zombie Children[edit]

I was playing around in creative and a zombie infected a child villager, the child zombie moved faster than the other zombies just like non-zombie children move faster than non-zombie villagers. More interestingly though, the zombie child appeared to be immune to sunlight. Multiple times it would remain outside, and while other zombies caught on fire, the child zombie remained unharmed. I even spawned a zombie next to it and that zombie caught on fire and died while the child stood their unharmed.

Yes, child zombies are immune against sunlight.

I've seen a ton of those! --Noa-constrictor 04:29, 7 July 2013 (UTC)

Zombies spawning in floating houses?[edit]

Can zombies spawn in floating houses? I usually create floating houses to avoid mobs during the night but I managed to find a way up after a long time mining. I also read about zombies spawning inside villager houses. Is there any chance that they can do that? 203.177.74.138 06:11, 30 March 2013 (UTC)

If it's dark enough somewhere inside, yes. -- Orthotope 07:13, 30 March 2013 (UTC)

Damage in 1.5[edit]

Here's the damage dealt by unarmed zombies in 1.5:

Damage
Current HP Easy Normal Hard
16-20 2 3 4
11-15 3 4 6
6-10 3 5 7
1-5 4 6 9

I'm not sure what the best way to add this to the page is. Of course, armed zombies will do more damage; their weapon's damage is added to their 'normal' base damage, before the easy/hard modifier is applied. -- Orthotope 03:47, 8 April 2013 (UTC)

Messing with the code, I decided to just throw that right into the infobox. For some reason, it won't go smaller than 50% in size, so it still breaks the infobox a little bit on the right, so not sure if this is neat enough. Chain Armor Says Uncraftable[edit]

It says that the chain armor that zombies can drop are uncraftable. This is not entirely true, as you can craft it with fire. This should be edited. 198.72.195.167 02:27, 30 May 2013 (UTC)Bob

Done. Equazcion h(talk) 04:01, 30 May 2013 (UTC)

Yes, you can craft chain armor with fire, although that can only be done with the "/give (playername) 51 (number 1-64)" command.z

Zombie Babies[edit]

Just today I have gotten attacked several times by baby zombies, even thought there were no Villager Children to convert. One of those times was shortly after I arrived in a town (in a world only a day or so old) when it had just gotten dark. There hadn't been time for villagers to breed, I hadn't seen any children Villagers, and the sun hadn't been down for very long. I quit the game and started again from the same seed because I hadn't had time to barricade the villagers inside to protect them, and wanted the village whole. When I restarted, a Baby Zombie came after me within 10 or 15 seconds of my spawning. Did it get pulled with from the time I was killed? Has anyone else noticed unlikely Baby Zombies spawning? PuzzleMage 02:33, 7 July 2013 (UTC)

Still happening today - I've been attacked by two Baby Zombies even though I have not yet found a Village in this world. I'm definitely not below one.PuzzleMage 19:28, 8 July 2013 (UTC)

It is possible, but rare, for baby zombie villagers to spawn without a villager child being attacked - I have seen them. However, if you are talking about normal baby zombies (small versions of zombies), you must have mods, as they do not spawn at all without them. Meeples10t ~ c 20:14, 8 July 2013 (UTC)
I've been attacked by zombie babies twice in the past ten minutes. Not zombie villager babies, but smaller versions of regular zombies. No big noses or anything. And this is vanilla Minecraft. There's probably a bug of some kind related to spawning zombie villager babies. 98.232.19.240 23:05, 8 July 2013 (UTC)
Baby normal zombies do not spawn in vanilla, period. They will not spawn. I have downloaded the minecraft.jar for every downloadable version available, and I have never seen a zombie baby that is not a villager baby. Meeples10t ~ c 23:12, 8 July 2013 (UTC)
I've never seen them before 1.6.2, but they did look like mini Zombies, not like Zombie Villagers. I have never used any mods, so it must be new or a bug.PuzzleMage 23:50, 8 July 2013 (UTC)
I've seen the non-villager baby zombies as well, two spawned and attacked me inside an abandoned mine at y 12. They were very clearly not villager children, I can say this with absolute certainty. I'm also playing vanilla minecraft. It was hardcore mode, if that has any bearing for other people who've seen them.Venapax 00:18, 9 July 2013 (UTC)
Yup, these are new in 1.6.2. They're showing up both in normal spawns and reinforcements. They're a serious PITA, as they're fast (apparently they were worse in the pre-release). --Mental Mouse 01:17, 9 July 2013 (UTC)
I stand corrected.
250px
Meeples10t ~ c 01:38, 9 July 2013 (UTC)

From what I can tell they spawn under the same circumstances as zombies, and I seem to encounter them at about the same frequency as zombies wearing armour, maybe even a little more often than that. Do they spawn on all difficulties? I can only be certain about hardcore. It would also be worth noting whether or not they can spawn in 1x1x1 spaces.Venapax 13:37, 9 July 2013 (UTC)

"Regular" baby zombies now spawn in 1.6.2 and above without MCEdit or other spawning editors. And yes, they have lower health than normal zombies. They also another variation, the baby zombie pigman, that carries a miniature golden sword. Both types can spawn naturally throughout worlds (as baby pigmen will spawn in the Nether). Both types also rarely spawn wearing or holding any items (other than a baby pigmen's golden sword). I hope this clears up the commotion as baby zombies/pigmen being a "glitch" or a "mod". --Nick62703 21:13, 25 July 2013 (UTC)

Baby zombie?[edit]

So,I have this little "Jail" for naughty npc villagers, and this little dwarf zombie spawned outside the cells. It was so weird! No mods, just regular 1.6.2.

That is a zombified villager child. Read Zombie#Baby zombies. Meeples10t ~ c 01:18, 9 July 2013 (UTC)

They probably can spawn in any mode, as I was in creative in with the easy setting.69.174.184.247 13:45, 9 July 2013 (UTC)

Zombie/Baby Zombie HP[edit]

I've done a very, very primitive test (hitting until it dies) which suggests that normal zombies and "baby" zombies both have the same life points. Both took 22 hits to kill. From this I think it's safe to say that they have at least about the same amount of life. 86.22.154.186 15:19, 18 July 2013 (UTC)

Reinforcements[edit]

It looks like when reinforcements are spawned, 50 attempts are made within an 80x80x80 box centered on the attacked zombie, and the spawn (only one) can succeed in light level 10 or lower. Courtes 07:48, 22 July 2013 (UTC)

baby zombie height and ladder climbing[edit]

Can baby zombies really climb ladders? How about fitting through 1x1 spaces?

I've built a zombie spawner xp farm and the baby zombies are not crossing through the 1x1 opening where I kill them. I tried a creative mode experiment and the baby zombies did not climb a ladder to reach a villager. Not sure if that means they can't or just that they didn't.

I think baby zombies are actually 2 blocks tall, and can not climb ladders.

I'd like to find a way to sort the baby zombies from the normal zombies for my xp farm, since the baby zombies don't give xp. I'd like to just drop them in lava or something to get them out of the way. I was hoping they'd fit a 1x1.5 space (one block plus half slab) so I could sort them out of the zombie flow, but they seem taller than 1.5 blocks.

Any idea if this is a bug or if the wiki info is incorrect in the zombie page?

I have a mob trap with a 1x1x1 space at the bottom of a drop, baby zombies do NOT fit through it. However, my mob trap requires zombies to climb ladders, alternated between source water blocks. They can't help but be pushed upward. So this answers both your questions. The wiki should be changed to point out that zombie babies do not fit through 1x1 spaces. 65.111.213.35 07:19, 2 August 2013 (UTC)
My mob trap has a water ladder as well to transport zombies upwards. I use signs instead of ladders to separate the alternating water source blocks. The zombies are swimming to the top, not climbing the ladders. Mnebuerquo 15:05, 4 August 2013 (UTC)

This is because they share the same coding as normal zombies. Villager babies used to be that way. -_-

24.30.16.3 07:49, 2 September 2013 (UTC)

I haven't done formal experiments, but in recent fights (playing 1.7 snapshots), I was attacking from a ladder, and their hitbox at least is way taller than it looks like, perhaps full zombie size. --MentalMouse42 (talk) 11:28, 27 September 2013 (UTC)

Playing snapshots, looks like Baby Zombies are dropping now.[edit]

Or at least, will as of 1.7. They're dropping both dog food and XP. I'm guessing their habit of taking player equipment (back) to the grave drew too many complaints. --MentalMouse42 (talk) 11:31, 27 September 2013 (UTC)

1.7.2: Zombies no longer bash doors?[edit]

It seems that as of version 1.7.2, zombies no longer break down wooden doors to reach players or villagers even on hard difficulty or in Hardcore mode.

Is this an intentional change or a bug? It's not listed as a change in the patch notes. 174.126.80.236 23:41, 28 October 2013 (UTC)

Confirmed for 1.7.9. Still says on the wiki that they break doors when they don't. Is it a bug or a removed feature? Any explananation? 146.87.52.52 12:27, 17 June 2014 (UTC)
They still break down my doors. Note that only certain zombies can break down doors. When they spawn, they have a random chance to have that ability or not.

Zombie in Nether?[edit]

I was building a zombie Pigman farm and tested it out after I got my first spawns. Suddenly a regular Overworld spawn appeared out of nowhere! Is this a code mess-up bug or an intended feature/Easter egg? Willingham yAAOz (talk) 19:16, 31 December 2013 (UTC)

this is just like skeletons in nether. there is a 20% or so chance to spawn a normal skeleton instead of a wither skeleton, i'm not totally sure but i think this is why. :) Blueninja66 (talk) 23:35, 26 January 2014 (UTC)
Not unless it was added pretty recently. Was this a gold farm in the overworld? If not lit, those can often spawn a few overworld mobs. If it was in the Nether, then maybe zombie spawning was added -- what version are you playing in? I did just find a baby zombie behind my portal (in Thaumcraft, based off 1.6.4), but it could plausibly have come in from the OW. (Fortunately, I was already stripped for death, because I thought I might have an angry ZP back there. I didn't, but there were way too many ZPs around to fight the baby without setting them off. I sent in a (vanilla) iron golem, end of problem.) --MentalMouse42 (talk) 23:51, 26 January 2014 (UTC)
I have dismantled that farm and replaced it, but yes, it is in the Nether. It was not from the overworld, because I was on the roof of the nether and I'm pretty sure mobs can't climb ladders intelligently. I think it's because Zombie Pigmen share some of the same code as regular Zombies, so they will "summon" reinforcements. Apparently (I think) Mojang forgot to make it reinforce Pigmen, and instead it reinforces Zombies. It seems odd, especially after the so-called summoner summons an army of 5% Zombie Pigmen and 95% Zombies. I was playing in 1.7.4, but I haven't tested it in the new snapshots. Trying to attack in Creative??[edit]

It may be a glitch just happening to me, but sometimes when I'm in Creative zombies come up to me and do the swinging arms animation. It may only happening to me, but sometimes it happens. And yes, I'm playing a version later than 1.7.2. (1.7.4, to be exact!) I want to put it in the trivia section, but I am afraid that it is only happening to me and it doesn't happen to other people.

I'm not so great at math but...[edit]

What would be the odds of a baby zombie villager with full enchanted armor spawning? Given, this was encountered on a server in the designated hostile mob area, but the rate of appearance of various hostile mobs seems to be the same as in a regular world. Images here: http://imgur.com/a/fxmbK --199.120.96.245 05:13, 27 May 2014 (UTC)

(chance of baby zombie) * (chance of villager zombie) * (chance of armor) * (chance of diamond armor) * (chance of all 4 armor pieces) * ((chance of armor enchantment) ^ 4)
Assuming Hard difficulty, max inhabited time for the spawning chunk, and a full moon, that works out to:
0.05 * 0.05 * 0.1875 * 0.00043 * 0.729 * (0.625)^4 = 0.00000002235 , or about 1 in 45 million. -- Orthotopetalk 05:37, 27 May 2014 (UTC)

Confusion[edit]

I don't understand what this means: Both the Zombie and the Player skins share the same model, thus the Zombie skin can be used as the player's skin and vice versa.

Zombies do have an additional 32 pixels of white space below the skin though, thus using a regular player skin for the zombie texture results in the zombie's face being on the back of its legs.
This is not true as of 14w03a. The zombies still use the old skin system.

So now can you use it as your skin or not? Thanks.Tylamimo (talk) 04:46, 26 October 2014 (UTC)
