I have seen villagers picking wheat

I saw a villager picking wheat and leaving seeds in the wheat farm. 100% sure. Minecraft 1.0.0 --92.8.153.75

Maybe he was just trampling it? (Like any other mob.) --mgr 11:08, 13 December 2011 (UTC)

Icons I found

I went into the GUI folder of the 1.9 Pre-release .jar, and found interesting icons in the slot.png. What stood out was the anvil icon, and even more so the broken shovel. Do you think they'll be able to repair your tools so you don't have to go make more? MegaScience 17:15, 22 September 2011 (UTC)

Those have been there for quite a while now... Verhalthur (talk)(contribs) 17:17, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
Well, I just joined Minecraft just as 1.8 Pre-release came out, I believe. I'm not sure what was and wasn't there. But are these used, because I haven't seen them yet. If not, they could still be put to use like I've asked... MegaScience 17:45, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
They're unused, somewhat like the purple arrow in the arrows.png file: been there for a while, yet not made into anything. Verhalthur (talk)(contribs) 17:49, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
Well, it'd give NPCs purpose if you didn't need to keep remaking that diamond pick after hours of mining to areas unknown. But yes, we'll just have to wait and see how things go, what they have planned. Just hopes and dreams. :) MegaScience 18:00, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
Actually, the icons in slot.png are indeed used in-game and have been for a while. They appear in the "blocks" and "items" sections of the statistics menu. --McBob 06:33, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
Oh! Of course. Nice catch, my bad. :o Verhalthur (talk)(contribs) 19:12, 25 September 2011 (UTC)
Well, not like they ccan't be used elsewhere. :P This is just hopes, though. Maybe, maybe not. Their decision. MegaScience 03:18, 26 September 2011 (UTC)

I was actually right. Maybe not the icons, but I gotta say: I can predict the near future. MegaScience 16:09, 27 September 2011 (UTC)

Grandfathered in?

Out of curiosity, if I have an NPC village in my 1.8, then download 1.9 pre-release, is there any possibility of them spawning in the village I already have, or would I require a whole new map? 208.118.27.217 20:16, 22 September 2011 (UTC)

You'll have to reload the chunk. Delete it in MCEdit, make sure MapFeatures is still set to 1 (mine turned itself off once after I cleared some chunks!), and re-enter that area. Bam, you'll have your very own TESTIFICATEs. Dazuro 01:20, 23 September 2011 (UTC)

The current models.

I believe that these models make almost no sense in regard to current npc models on minecraft. they go from looking like the same base block shape to these weird long-nosed freaks. if this is the final model, I wont be hanging around villagers a lot.

what are you talking about? there are no npcs, these are the only ones. 98.250.202.109 01:18, 23 September 2011 (UTC)

I think he was referring to what we expected, either humans or pigmen. -i don't like the pigmen though. Theesexiestman 06:59, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
NPC = Non-Playable Character. Basically refers to any mob because, as the acronym suggests, the player cannot become them in any way (in the unmodded MC, of course). SN777 Divinus, King of Blargs 13:10, 25 September 2011 (UTC)
Oh... NPC usually means AI talky to when referred to, but as a literal meaning... Yes, sounds bad. Wonder how we could fix this. MegaScience

All the mobs have AI. They can't do anything without AI. All the mods are NPC's. They have always been considered NPC's. I can't believe anyone actually doesn't know this. If you see anything move and react to the player in a game it is an NPC, period.Discount Flunky 00:06, 27 September 2011 (UTC)

actually, anything that moves and reacts to the player is called a mob, short for mobile. an npc is a character not controlled by player, not just any old animal.

Mob is a nickname given to animals in Minecraft and other games. It is not a technical term. Also by your definition the villagers are not NPC's, which leaves us were we started either way.Discount Flunky 11:05, 29 September 2011 (UTC)

Mob is a technical term that has been used in other games in the past; we only still use it for Minecraft animals because the game is still in development and Notch hasn't exactly given an official name for them yet. Also, I fail to see how his argument makes villagers not NPC's. They are non-playable, and they are (theoretically) characters, ergo, they are NPC's. Cobalt32 01:24, 11 October 2011 (UTC)

GOD...what the heck?

...? They don't look human? It looks like squidward. Or some variation of the surface squidward....I don't even know...

-Agreed Theesexiestman 06:57, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
Well if it their looks do not change I am going to see if I can't change their appearance. So yeah they creep me out. Mrwundrful
I call them "Coneheads" myself. - TheBushranger 19:55, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
http://www.planetminecraft.com/texture_pack/squidward-villagers/ I released that this morning. Hope you like it! :D MegaScience 23:50, 23 September 2011 (UTC)

May I ask who squidward even is? And if so who is he? Timberdoodle 19:05, 25 September 2011 (UTC)
Are you the only person who doesn't know who Squidward is? Sorry if that sounds rude, but it's really the only way I can present it. I guess Spongebob isn't in some countries... MegaScience 03:18, 26 September 2011 (UTC)

I'm afraid I don't have or have ever had a TV so I don't know about things like that. Timberdoodle 12:25, 5 October 2011 (UTC)

Who said they were going to look like humans?Discount Flunky 00:07, 27 September 2011 (UTC)

They look like Bert from Sesame Street. Large head, large nose, monobrow, ect. Liquid Ink 01:34, 28 September 2011 (UTC)

The nose doesn't even look like a part of the face......what was the designer thinking? Just saying.

I always thought they looked like squilliam. You know, squidward's snotnosed cousin? 67.175.112.173 21:32, 6 January 2012 (UTC)

Come home yonder villagers

I was in a mine around a desert village and when I came out all of my villagers disappeared. Will they wander far away or run into cacti to death? I mean where did they go?

yeah do the villagers die and re spawn back in the village or what my blacksmith, priest and a couple of farmers left do they come back? please respond

As of the 12w05a weekly pre-release villagers will attempt to live in their house, but before this release villagers will walk where ever they want to, and as a result may die from environmental damage (eg cacti, lava). As far as I know they do not respawn. If anyone can bring any more light to this subject please do so. --Stepanma01 09:39, 9 February 2012 (UTC)

LOL

"Notch insists that their noses do not look like ducks." Is this a joke? Am I the only one reading it like this??

SQUIDWARD LOL

These things freakin look like Squidward from Spongebob! I would add it in the Trivia section, but it says "Do not submit copyrighted work without permission!" Oh well... 98.179.193.20 23:25, 23 September 2011 (UTC)

That's not copyrighted, and could be added. :) - TheBushranger 07:01, 24 September 2011 (UTC)
Read the above messages, already been said. Go download my miniature texture pack that makes them actually Squidwards. MegaScience 07:20, 24 September 2011 (UTC)

How do we know the villager types?

Where did this information about the villager colors come from? --71.119.56.224 00:34, 24 September 2011 (UTC)

due to the fact, where they originally spawn --Wally
No, I got them from the game files. There's a Villager folder in the Mobs folder, and each texture is named by their type/job. MegaScience 07:20, 24 September 2011 (UTC)

Finally, villagers to terrorize

Yet another reason to get a mod with guns in it. To kill these weird things.

Or even better, rig their houses with TNT... Also, sign your comments with four tildes please... 89.243.207.156 20:57, 12 October 2011 (UTC)

^ Lol, and that was from an anonymous user. XD --Rocĸetor talk 21:01, 12 October 2011 (UTC)

Trading / Helping

I've seen buzz where people are supposed to be able to trade with and help the villagers (a la millenaire), is this in the works still?--NinjaKitty 20:17, 29 September 2011 (UTC)

They dont do that at the moment. --Amigopen The Gemini! 22:54, 8 October 2011 (UTC)

Wolves & Villagers?

Wolves are known to attack sheep, something typical for this mob. But has anyone observed how they act towards villagers at night? I've yet to test this. -Saratje 13:23, 17 October 2011 (UTC) I've noticed dead chickens while wolves were near by but no villagers,so no?Desacobose 23:33, 18 October 2011 (UTC)

I like it

I like the way they look, it makes me feel special to be the only human, makes me feel like Minecraft really is a different world. Also, why does it say that there arms are crossed? If there wearing robes, why cant they just have there hands in there sleeves? Nano115 21:21, 17 October 2011 (UTC)

Well, there are other Humans, but I know what you mean. I picture their hands as being together in a prayer position, instead of their arms being crossed. Liquid Ink 04:06, 23 October 2011 (UTC)

I Added Squidward

I added squidward to the page, look under "long protruding noses" Minecraftguy45 16:04, 25 November 2011 (UTC)

Entity ID for Villagers?

The villagers don't seem to have an Entity ID. Do they have one at all? If so, what is it?

Villagers in SMP

For whatever reason, I can't seem to find any type of villager besides the basic one (farmer). I have checked several villages. Has anyone else seen a non-farmer villager in SMP? Thank you, je007 99.31.226.175 02:25, 29 November 2011 (UTC)

Were you playing in single player, or on a server, because on servers, despite the fact that they spawn in different professions, they will still appear as farmers. The different appearances only show up on single player.

Anti-Semitism Warning

There recently has been anti-semitic vandalism on this page. I hope this does not get out of control, but in case it does, I'm going to start a list of users/ip's who've been making racist edits. I ask dedicated wikia contributors to monitor the history page for revisions made by these people to try to get racist comments removed as fast as possible. Anyone else who finds people posting anti-semitic or in any other way racist comments, I ask you add their usernames/ip's to this list.

This is stupid

I think we should remove these Squidward references ("plays clarinet"). This is not 4chan, guys. --87.122.44.90 17:19, 3 December 2011 (UTC)

Airman?

Someone added references to NPCs flying airships. Is this in the new prerelease or is this just modded garbarge in mainspace? --Qwertygiy 02:13, 4 December 2011 (UTC)

Go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=uc_hGVGRCqo#t=560s to see this airship. Someone said that it's a 1/1000 chance that an airship will crash and leave a trail of fire in it's wake. This is shown in this video by TheSyndicateProject. --Ryry013 12:40, 4 December 2011 (UTC)

this is all wrong, and I will RUTHLESSLY be blocking anyone who adds it. it's been added seven times. that is quite enough for modded garbage to go. anyone who adds this AGAIN will get a month ban on the house. --Kizzycocoa 08:59, 5 December 2011 (UTC)

Green villagers not spawning

I don't think that the default 'green' villagers actually ever spawn, there might need to be an allusion to this on the page.

Statement about squids and wheat?

What the hell does "Villagers also act like squid not being attracted to wheat." mean? Can someone expand that a little or just delete it?

Do They Despawn?

Everythings in the title XD Do they despawn? 86.186.196.55 08:04, 1 February 2012 (UTC)

No. Passive mobs no longer despawn. It's been like that for a while now. --HexZyle 02:10, 11 February 2012 (UTC)

Villagers opening iron doors

Shall a brief mention of this glitch (villagers opening iron doors as if they were wooden) be placed in the trivia section of the Villager wiki page? Here's a video for citation purposes: Villager Door AI in 12w05b snapshot Stepanma01 09:31, 9 February 2012 (UTC)
