I've added a screenshot, though in retrospect a closer image may be needed in the display box thing. If anyone can add that, that would be great. --Atr 09:53, 26 May 2011 (UTC)

And during the day, or some light, or even a different block type would be a plus to be able to see it.Dctrjons 10:02, 26 May 2011 (UTC)

Hey for some reason when i place a trap door it is invisible. HELP!

I am not aloud to upload files yet. But I have a good screenshot (open and close in daytime) and the 25x25 inventory render image.

Render Image - should be upload at Grid hatch

Found a handy use for these as a safer garbage disposal. Apparently the hatches aren't flammable and sit nicely on lava. Drop your items on top then hit the switch. Screenshot if someone wants to throw that in there. Fishpaw 13:54, 27 May 2011 (UTC)

i found out trapdoors make a simple minecart-only doorway Fagtardicus 20:38, 9 June 2011 (UTC)

Uses Section[edit]

I (simonoz) have added a uses section featuring a trapdoor idea I have discovered :D

There a Screen shot for you --Axeblade346 12:29, 26 May 2011 (UTC)
Uploaded to the wiki and added to the page for you! --Atr 13:33, 26 May 2011 (UTC)
Can that be controlled via redstone, do you know? --Atr 13:22, 26 May 2011 (UTC)
Yes, the trapdoor acts exactly like a wooden door, except for size and the orientation it opens. --Bmambl 14:18, 31 May 2011

I wonder if we should add that TD's

1. Can`t be attached to glass

2. If you close a TD at the level you are standing with no clearance (1x1 hole) you can jump on it. Was able to make a trapdoor ladder this way.

Iron Trap doors?[edit]

Are they also there?

Unless there's a different recipe for it, so far I haven't found any evidence there is an "Iron trapdoor," despite the fact that it seems to operate almost exactly like a normal door --Bmambl 13:22, 31 May 2011 (UTC)

On the bottom of the page why is the image for the trapdoor of redstone? Timberdoodle 17:52, 26 May 2011 (UTC)

I'm guessing because there is no trapdoor icon to use - but that's just speculation :P --Warlock 17:54, 26 May 2011 (UTC)
Edit: Oh, it's wrong even in the blocks list (thought you meant that diagram someone drew of the drawbridge or whatever). Yeah that's weird. If there's no icon there should at least be a [?] thing for now. --Warlock 17:57, 26 May 2011 (UTC)

One-way passage[edit]

If you build two tiles high tunnel and add a hatch at the exit, then you can exit tunnel, but not enter. example

X — wall
= — trapdoor --MiiNiPaa 18:32, 26 May 2011 (UTC)

Can we get a screenshot of this please? I'm finding it kinda hard to imagine it in my head --Bmambl 13:23, 31 May 2011 (UTC)

Hatches with integrated ladders?[edit]

Would be cool if something like that would come in a future update. I got more floors in my house, and they´re all connected with one long ladder. But to add trapdoors there, those have to be combined with them. AIAS-5 19:51, 26 May 2011 (UTC)

I was under the impression the trapdoor occupied the space above the hole. Therefore, shouldn't you be able to place a ladder under it? (afterall, it opens upwards) Now if your trapdoor is at the bottom of a ladder, maybe that would be an issue. --Warlock 19:54, 26 May 2011 (UTC)
It's true. It's acts exactly like a door, in that it occupies the space next to the block you attach it to. IE, at the top of a ladder, it's perfectly possible to have a hatch leading up, but it's more difficult to have a hatch at the bottom of said ladder (that being said, if the hatch is closed, you can just jump up to the bottom rungs of the ladder. --Bmambl 13:26, 31 May 2011 (UTC)

tnt can pass through open doors?[edit]

should we add that primed tnt can pass through open trapdoors, but not closed trapdoors --ranren12 10:34, may 26 2011 (UTC)

Seems like a pretty moot point, considering that it's acting like a door. Primed TNT is an item, so it'd be easier to say "open trapdoors let all items through" --Bmambl 13:29, 31 May 2011 (UTC)

Light passing through[edit]

Shouldn't the line that light passes through the four gaps in the hatch be removed? The gaps are purely aesthetic, and don't actually let any light through themselves. I could make my hatches a solid black all over, leaving no gaps, and it would still let light through. Thx Deanm 10:36, 27 May 2011 (UTC)

Well, since nobody has gotten back to me yet and i dont see a good reason not to, i'm going to just remove that line. --Deanm 11:53, 29 May 2011 (UTC)

Trapdoor: Pistons[edit]

Should we add that trapdoors can be moved by pistons if there's another block for it to connect to? –The preceding unsigned comment was added by Hlast (Talk|Contribs) Please sign your posts with ~~~~

cant get up from below on ladders[edit]

For some reason, when i try to get through the trapdoor in my house, when i go down its fine, but when i try to go up, i cant go up it. like on a flat roof, i go up the ladder, open the drap door, and its like im trying to jump up a 2 block hole. i can almost get up, but i always fall. how can i fix this? its frustrating and i really want to get to my nether portal on the top. how can i fix this problem? –Preceding unsigned comment was added by (Talk|Contribs) 00:46, 31 January 2012. This happens because the collision box for ladders was removed in 1.1 for some reason. It will be restored in 1.2, as removing it caused more problems than it fixed. It's also back in the latest weekly version (12w04a), if you don't want to wait for 1.2 to come out. -- Orthotope 03:30, 31 January 2012 (UTC)
Just use water. --SrDonaldo 05:01, 31 January 2012 (UTC)
  • You could also just place the trapdoor on the opposite side, so then using the ladder's collision box just stand on it then jump to the next block, then close it.Trigger hurt 00:59, 17 September 2012 (UTC)

Size of trapdoors[edit]

What is the size of the trapdoors? 1/8 of a block? –Preceding unsigned comment was added by Hkjlg (Talk|Contribs) 07:02, 30 July 2012‎ (UTC). Please sign your posts with ~~~~

316 of a block I believe. ultradude25 (T|C) at 07:09, 30 July 2012 (UTC)

Here's an idea: IRON TRAPDOORS.[edit]

Now we all (well, most of us) like trapdoors and have wanted an iron version. Now i understand how hard it would be to conceal redstone for it but it would all be worth it to keep those other people out. Even if they were just another data value of it (probably not possible since data values are items with the same characteristics) it would help TONS for lots of people for iron trapdoors. As far as a recipe goes:

Ingredients Input » Output Description
Redstone + Iron Ingot

Item output is regular trapdoor because no item exists.

Or if they changed the recipe for Iron Bars:

Ingredients Input » Output Description
Iron Ingot

This is the ideal crafting recipe for Iron Bars but instead is different to many players' dismay.

Which would then change the recipe for the Iron Trapdoor to:

Ingredients Input » Output Description
Iron Ingot

Item output is regular trapdoor because no item exists.

But another crafting recipe that would yield less iron bars per craft:

Ingredients Input » Output Description
Iron Ingot

Item output is regular trapdoor because no item exists.

Which would then not have any need to change the recipe for Iron bars

Recipe unknown?[edit]

At the latest patch, no matter am I playing on single player or over minecraft realms. None of recibes over google search or the one over Minecraft Wiki page is working. I took a screenshot: If you don't believe, go on and try yourself. I believe Iron Trap Door does not exist in the game for real, not without any mods. Iron Trap Door is not shown in game even on creative mode by searching items with "iron". --[MikkoMuhis] 8:28, 23.7.2014 (GMT+2)

They work fine. Iron trapdoors aren't available in the current official version (1.7.x), they've only appeared in development versions and are expected to be included in the 1.8 release. So you won't see them unless you're using the snapshot releases.

False Information[edit]

As of Tu 16 for the console edition trapdoors can be placed on the bottom half of the block opening upwards but they cannot be placed on the top half opening downwards, yes i can easily replicate this and i believe it is misinformation from a user who previously edited the trapdoor page, so i recommend someone edit this information in the console edition in the history section. –Preceding unsigned comment was added by (talk) at 12:05, 26 October 2014‎ (UTC).
