My Castle[edit]

lol I built a gigantic castle wall made of wooden planks then my sister lit it with a flint and steel

Lol- that's the risk, mate!  ANNOYING  10:33, 8 March 2011 (UTC)

Google[edit]

Did anyone notice that this is the top page for 'wooden planks' on google? --98.150.8.74 23:46, 27 November 2011 (UTC)

Change list of uses into a grid.[edit]

Can someone who knows how to, split the Uses part into 2 or 3 columns so the page isn't so long. 2.218.15.135 05:51, 22 January 2012 (UTC)

Animated crafting tables with wood planks[edit]

Almost all the pages that use wood planks as an ingredient (tons of them) have animated pages. I think think animations should be kept to a minimum as they are very visually irritating. Since wooden planks do not change names, ID and are visually identifiable with each other I think we should remove the animations and just keep the original plank in the table. Otherwise we have bouncing graphics on dozens of pages. --Moxxy 15:16, 23 March 2012 (UTC)

I was going to suggest the animation to Ultradude, but he already did it. I don't think it's unnecessary. It can help let people know that they aren't limited to only 1 type of block to use in crafting or building. Sometimes images are more helpful than words, especially considering the lower spectrum in the age range of Minecraft players. - Asterick6 21:52, 23 March 2012 (UTC)
I have bee involved in this discussion on other pages as well, and was the one who changed many of them to be the alternating way. I have opened a topic here to try to come to an agreement as it relates to all pages. Cultist O 22:08, 23 March 2012 (UTC)

Old maps[edit]

if i update to 1.2.4 the just placed wooden planks in the old worlds will change their colour if are made of birch or pine wood? Anuros 22:58, 23 March 2012 (UTC)

It didn't keep track of which kind of wood was used to make planks before, so any existing planks will not change. -- Orthotope 04:58, 24 March 2012 (UTC)

New Wood Colours 1.2.4[edit]

everything made out of wood that can be placed as a building material; slabs, pressure plates, fences, doors, stairs, trapdoors etc must have the relevant colours based on the wood used for crafting in a future update. why would you bother having ONLY coloured planks when you can't even build anything properly liveable with only blocks?!

Slabs[edit]

It says under slabs that they burn in 12w17a, i think it should be worded so that you know that it is a different block ID and all slabs made before will still act like stone. ZeCraftyMiner 14:52, 21 May 2012 (UTC)

Recipe Table: more columns?[edit]

Currently it's two columns, but that still leaves it kinda long, especially with all the "singleton" recipes at the end. Think it's worth splitting those recipes into a new wikitable, so we can do them in two columns with their ingredients? Maybe increase the original table, with all-planks and planks+sticks, to 3 columns while we're at it? Or would that be too wide, too busy, or otherwise bad? --Mental Mouse 00:52, 10 September 2012 (UTC)

The only way to do it would be to split the recipes into separate tables within the wikitable, but that would be really messy in the edit box (especially since I think you have to use HTML tables, as wiki tables won't work as a sub-table). ultradude25Talk

Why is that "the only way to do it"? I was thinking:
  1. split the main table into one for the columnated recipes, and one for the singletons. There might be a little whitespace between them, but no biggie.
  2. Optionally add a third column of grids for the first table (that is, a fourth table column)
  3. Expand the second table to four columns, formatting the third column to match the first one.
  4. Optionally further expand it to six columns, and do likewise for the fifth. (might be too wide)
--Mental Mouse 12:08, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
If we have it any wider, it has to be a separate table, otherwise it won't fit on the screen for people with smaller screens or normal screens with the sidebar still enabled. If we have another wikitable, then we also would have to duplicate the ingredients header, and by then it would only fit on the largest of screens (with sidebar disabled), while making it actually longer for normal and smaller screens. So the only option is to add more "rows" by using separate tables within the wikitable, so they can collapse for smaller screens.
Maybe there's a better way to do this using separate floats, but either way it's going to be messy. ultradude25Talk

Hmm. So what you're saying is, either a third recipe column for the "bulk" recipes, or a second ingredients column for the "singletons" (they already have a second grid column), would make the (section of) table too wide for smaller screens or sidebar users? If so, then expanding it the way I describe above is no good. (Drat.)
As an alternative approach, it would be nice if we could make the crafting grids for the bulk recipes, or the singleton recipes (as individual tables, each grid with its ingredients) autofill the available width and wrap, like text does. I suspect that might be tricky, but you seem much more familiar with the formatting here than I am.
PS: I'm not quite sure what you mean by "the sidebar". I see a narrow column of useful links on the left, and on the right I have a wider column with boxes for "Recent Community Articles (currently empty) and "Mojand Tweets" (also empty, because I didn't allow scripts from twitter.com). I have a pretty large screen (1920x1280), on which the existing tables use well under half the available width. --Mental Mouse 21:36, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
Yes the one on the right is the curse sidebar and it wastes heaps of space. I might try floating the grids, it should work fine since they're all the same height. ultradude25Talk

There needs to be more stuff using the different types of wood instead of just oak[edit]

They need things with spruce birch and jungle. Like theyve done with slabs and stairs Zigzagar 15:13, 12 October 2012 (UTC)

I dunno, I kinda like being able to mix-and-match planks for boats and such. --Mental Mouse 17:01, 12 October 2012 (UTC)

You should say how to /give yourself each type of plank on the article. Thanks! Enderderp572 (talk)

Moving Crafting Table To Top of Usage[edit]

I believe the best plan of action would be to show the Crafting Table at the top so that people first starting out know they may need to make that object first. It is not a huge change, but it can make a huge contrast. 24.99.22.55 04:52, 21 January 2015 (UTC) Kidoshi

This article is not about crafting, it only states available recipes. As such, that change is unneeded. KnightMiner (t·c) 05:24, 21 January 2015 (UTC)
I don't know if that's even possible, since the list is automatically generated with DPL; note that the recipes are in alphabetical order based on the title of the article they're from. -- Orthotopetalk 05:46, 21 January 2015 (UTC)
