Hidden Passages[edit source]

As stated in the info page, paintings can be walked through. I've place a painting and dug out the blocks behind it and created an awesome secret room. However, it seems the painting will not seem to stay and disappears after a save and restart. I've even tried leaving the edge blocks all touching using the extra large painting, but still no dice. Has anyone managed to keep a painting around with a hole behind it? Maybe a door? I'd love to hear what you guys think. MrMatthew 17:31, 22 October 2010 (CDT)

I have many door-paintings. they're great!--Kizzycocoa 17:40, 22 October 2010 (CDT)
Must be a bug, I never experience that problem. Either that, or every time you're loading the map or exiting the Esc Menu screen, you're pressing the left mouse button while looking at the painting. --DigiKep 00:22, 23 October 2010 (CDT)
I'm usually never near the painting when I save/exit. Can either of you guys provide me with some pictures or diagrams? Does this only work with a certain size painting? I have to imagine I'm just doing something wrong. Thanks for the responses! MrMatthew 22:22, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

There need to be blocks behind I think. It doesn't matter what blocks, even signs on signs, but try putting a bunch of blocks that you can walk through behind it. 13:48, 3 November 2012 (UTC)

me too WHY THOUGH? Cubadude20:26, 14 april 2012

Creeper Painting?[edit source]

I'm not sure if this is updated but, I've managed to get a 1x2 painting of a creeper with the painting of a mountain range behind it along with another picture within the picture. I would update the painting gallery here but I dont know where to find images.

It's already in the list, right above the hand & fire picture. it's just a little small, and hard to see in the picture provided. --Coolpilot 05:09, 23 September 2010 (UTC)
I wonder why you'd even paint a creeper. honestly, they scare you enough in caves, why introduce a doppelgänger into the house? you might mistake it for a real one, especially as it's copied, pixel for pixel X3 --Kizzycocoa 10:33, 23 September 2010 (UTC)
It's hilarious though, I've actually scared myself with that painting a couple times. It's a pretty funny picture actually, if you look at it long enough. The creeper is just like, "Hallo! :D How are you today?" --DigiKep 23:13, 19 October 2010 (CDT)
I put that painting right in my doorway in multiplayer. Scares the crud out of people. =)

Block information[edit source]

Does this page need block information like all other blocks have? Need somewhere to show what it looks like in inventory and all the data values. –ultradude25 (T|C) 09:54, 18 October 2010 (UTC)

Paintings arent blocks though. I modded the item template a while ago so that it could be used on all items.Toadbert

"Fighters" identification[edit source]

Minor Trivia Note: I believe the two figures in "Fighters" are the characters from "Way of the Exploding Fist" for the Commodore 64, though I'm not sure why the one on the right is blue. (Re-added under a new topic for organization)--Loendal 01:02, 20 October 2010 (UTC)

Its from the Nintendo Entertain System game "Kung Fu". --IronMaidenRocks 01:51, 20 April 2011 (UTC)

Paintings Vanishing[edit source]

Last night my friend and I built this really cool admins library type place on our server and I covered the walls in paintings. When we logged off, the paintings were still there but we logged on tonight and the paintings were all missing. Has anyone else had this problem? Also, my friend said he couldn't see the paintings I set on the walls.

Multiplayer is buggy. ConMan8 22:03, 26 October 2010 (CDT)
I noticed paintings vanishing when I was trying to place them and the dig out blocks from behind them (see above in Secret Passages). Maybe a related issue? MrMatthew 14:02, 27 October 2010 (CDT)
My paintings vanish too. Even when they ARE there, other users who enter the room cannot see them. Strahan201 15:37, 6 December 2010 (EST)

Wikipedia links[edit source]

The links to Wikipedia in this article seem out of place. They aren't strictly relevant to minecraft as a speciality wiki. They should probably be removed but I'd like to get some feedback instead of acting unilaterally in this. --XipXoom 11:59, 13 November 2010 (UTC)

I think these links are helpful for those that don't know what Counter-Strike or King's Quest is. But I agree that the links need a different style so that they can be recognized as interwiki links. --Barracuda 09:14, 13 November 2010 (CST)

Interwiki links[edit source]

The reason I changed them is that they give no indication at first glance that the user is leaving the site. In my research I couldn't find any information on how to make them appear as external links while still retaining all the interwiki benefits. --XipXoom 12:03, 13 November 2010 (UTC)

That's the point of interwiki, it's not counted as external as you're just going to a different wiki site. Also the fact that it says wikipedia: in the title is kind of a hint... –ultradude25 (T|C) at 12:13, 13 November 2010 (UTC)
Which is why I changed them. Because its unintuitive for a user to click a link on a wiki and be whisked off to another site with no obvious indication its going to happen. Wiki users expect internal appearing links to be internal. The only relation this site has to wikipedia is the software run. There is no reason to treat that site (or any mediawiki site) the same as internal links on this wiki.
In any case, I think the point is probably moot as the links don't seem appropriate anyways. Are we going to link every topic we reference to wikipedia? It should be an all or nothing, and frankly the 'all' would be a mess. --XipXoom 12:22, 13 November 2010 (UTC)
To be clear, I'm not disagreeing that the interwiki links are technically superior, they just need to be styled properly. Once again, probably moot though as I mentioned in my previous message. --XipXoom 06:34, 13 November 2010 (CST)
If the interwiki style can't be edited, maybe Template:Wikipedia should be created that adds the Wikipedia icon to the link instead of the long "wikipedia:".
It could look like this: {{Wikipedia|Page name|Link text}} --Barracuda 15:03, 13 November 2010 (UTC)

New Dye?[edit source]

Can you make a painting with a dyed cloth block? I was reading about them this morning.

Paintings can still be made with coloured wool blocks, but do not produce any different designs, as far as I have seen. --JKGallagher 23:11, 14 January 2011 (UTC)

New Painting?[edit source]

[1] Didn't see that one on the list, So might it be new? And might there be more? Or is this just some bug? --Imppa 21:25, 3 February 2011 (UTC)

That painting appears because Notch forgot to add the painting into the game.--GlitchKing 22:52, 5 February 2011 (UTC)

"Pepperoni"[edit source]

In case anyone is interested in unimportant details, the translation "A kebab with three pepperoni" is wrong. Well, technically, it's an accurate translation, but that's only because the original Swedish title is misspelled. The last word (in Swedish) should be "feferoni", not "pepperoni", the former translating to "peperoncini", which is a pepper, not a sausage.

So, should this article use the technically "correct" translation or the translation of what the artist actually meant to call it? --Smallhacker 22:48, 25 February 2011 (UTC)

Don't know if it matters, but if you look at it in danish it is correctly translated and spelled, so maybe it's not swedish but danish?.. --Kristofferlc 09:01, 9 March 2011 (UTC)

It is, in fact, the proper Danish spelling, but could artist actually be Danish? Or at least speak Danish? MaryTheTiger 20:36, 20 June 2012 (UTC)

Big paintings[edit source]

I've been trying and trying for nearly an hour, and I can't get a painting bigger than 2 by 2. The wall I'm putting it on is 5 by 5, and I'm putting it on the bottom left hand corner.

Just read that placing the painting one block above and to the right of the lower left hand corner would have a higher chance of creating a large painting. Just tried it out and it seemed to be much more effective than the lower right. Metachrono 19:46, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

Creepy Paintings[edit source]

I hope they get someone else to do the paintings. The guy who does them, his paintings are the weirdest things ever. --IronMaidenRocks 01:52, 20 April 2011 (UTC)

Skeleton painting spawning skeletons?[edit source]

I have a well lit room with no areas open to outside. It has a skeleton painting in it and 4 times in a row i tried to sleep and got woken up by a skeleton in my room. Can the painting spawn skeletons when you sleep next to it?

No. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 05:16, 1 May 2011 (UTC)
Lol, this gives me interesting ideas of things to do with spawners in adventure maps... Or perhaps even a creepy mod :p --WolfieMario 05:57, 19 February 2012 (UTC)

I think they spawn inside the painting, probably a glitch.

by any chance is the head board of your bed against the wall if so try moving it 1 block away i had this problem with out the painting --17:31, 24 September 2012 (UTC)Andy11894

Hidden Passage NOT WORKING[edit source]

I've been trying to create a hidden passage for the past hour now, and I'm using a 2x2 painting. Every time I mine the "door" out from behind it, the painting instantly comes off. I know I'm not hitting the painting, sometimes it even takes a few seconds for the painting to come off after the blocks are gone. I've tried it in both SSP and SMP, but to no avail. Did it stop working after the update?? Holy crap, HELP! --Gidvid23 06:40, 10 June 2011 (UTC)

Do not remove the door. Or place 2 signs or ladders instead of the door, at the same place. Calinou - talk × contribs » 10:05, 10 June 2011 (UTC)

Ok, thanks!! The ladders didn't work but the signs did!! Thank you! --Gidvid23 05:56, 11 June 2011 (UTC)

Bugs that are fixed?[edit source]

getting 2 paintings has been fixed i think haven't seen it happen in a while --Ocwil 16:09, 17 June 2011 (UTC)

I was playing on the 1.7.3 version yesterday, and kept trying to get the skeleton and flowers painting hung outside my door on my cobblestone house. A few times a creeper (in broad daylight) would walk up and explode next to my doorway, destroying part of my patio and the painting in the process. I only had one painting in my inventory, and no other paintings were in the creeper's blast area, yet one creeper explosion yielded 2 paintings one out of the 4 times. I double-checked, taking inventory of all my paintings. I had used my 5 grey wool to craft 5 paintings, and I had (after all of this had taken place) 5 hung paintings, and 1 in my inventory. I don't think the bug is fixed, and maybe it has to do with explosions? Link5261 17:36, 8 September 2011 (UTC)

1.8 Lighting bug- Paintings with a block above them appear black[edit source]

I have noticed this bug where paintings which have a block in the space above them, turn black. Here you can see the painting without a block above the top-left corner, and here you can see the painting now black with a block above the top-left corner. Anyone else found this bug? I noticed with chests that I placed before 1.8 were black (not all of them), but placing and removing a torch next to them seemed to fix it.

I've got the same problem here. Cacti11 05:50, 15 September 2011 (UTC)Cacti11

Critical hit?[edit source]

"As of 1.8 players can hit a critical hit on painting by jumping and while falling hitting the painting."
What does this mean? Does this even make sense? I don't want to edit it out in case I just don't understand. Is this just someone being an idiot? --Zeaga 15:42, 25 October 2011 (UTC)

It means Paintings are entities, not blocks. Criting a non mob entity will only cause it to break faster. --Saphireking65 16:05, 25 October 2011 (UTC)
...which is a moot point with paintings, since they always break in only one hit anyways. This bit of trivia belongs on Entity, not here. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 17:41, 25 October 2011 (UTC)
My thoughts exactly. It doesn't make much sense.
Zeaga 23:44, 26 October 2011 (UTC)
It doesn't make Any sense. --User:JulleO o 23:01, 30 November 2012 (UTC)
What are you talking about? It makes perfect sense, although a bit weird. See, since you can "critical hit" entities (except items), and Paintings are technically Entities, then it's that simple. Same applies to Item Frames. #trigger_hurt(I|T|C) Check out my project! 12:19, 3 December 2012 (UTC)

"However, only two are visible in the picture"[edit source]

In the painting is clearly three chili peppers, so what's this about? It might look different ingame though. --Gonkalonk 16:45, 18 November 2011 (UTC)

Is it possible to get higher resolution paintings[edit source]

by editing the texture pack to make the texture for paintings something higher like 128x128 but keeping everything else at default? If so, can someone link me a tutorial or something so I can find out how it's done?

I'm just asking because I want to put custom images as a painting, but the 16x16 resolution is too low. 22:06, 27 January 2012 (UTC)

Bug?[edit source]

How is this a bug?: "A painting can have a sign or another painting placed in the same block space (but on a different face), this is because a painting is an entity, so it technically does not take up the block it is in."-- 01:14, 13 March 2012 (UTC)

This is another bug , if you place a painting on a cactus and mine the cactus the painting will remain.Chessandgo 00:27, 14 April 2012 (UTC)chessandgo

Cactus/painting bug[edit source]

If you place a painting on a cactus and mine the cactus the painting will remain, resulting in a standing and/or unsupported painting , seems to work only in SMP/or due to lag. Chessandgo 00:27, 14 April 2012 (UTC)chessandgo

Problem picking sizes[edit source]

It seems that as of these new patches, I can't get a painting with more surface area than 2x2 blocks. I put walls with more than enough space and always end up with 1x1s, 1x2s or 2x1s. Toadbert

in fact you can create larger paintings but i discovered that it is possible only facing South or East. In fact when you have a wall of thickness 1 you cen only create 1x1 and 2x1(vertical) paintings.

2 blocks thickness provides possiblity placing 2x2 and 1x2 (horizontaly)

4 block s thickness providess possibility to make bigger paintings--Mitcz 21:23, 29 September 2012 (UTC)

Article name[edit source]

Why this article name is plural? Item and entity are both singular. Shouldn't we move it to Painting? --mgr 10:25, 28 August 2012 (UTC)

Agree, but the Painting page must be deleted first so the move can be successful. Trigger hurt 10:19, 31 October 2012 (UTC)

Agree, singular is better. --timrem 02:05, 11 October 2012 (UTC)

Agree It's better in singular. -- teogramm 24 October 2012

It failed Some one els do it--007a83 (Talk|Contribs) 21:42, 28 October 2012 (UTC)

Agree It cant be moved untill the painting redirect page is deleted, as it is taking up the required namespace. ~torrentails 06:01, 31 October 2012 (UTC)

Agree Singular for consistancy. Anoymous712 06:19, 27 November 2012 (UTC)
