Is this article necessary yet? It has no content, the block's name hasn't been confirmed, there's only one image, and this could actually be an entity. I think we should create the article once the snapshot is released instead of having a practically blank page about something that hasn't even been released yet. ISQ Talk 22:52, 28 August 2012 (UTC)

No it isn't. I added a delete tag but someone removed it without any discussion. --Moxxy 03:50, 29 August 2012 (UTC)
I wasn't sure if the page was going, which was why I edited it. It could be renamed for now? No idea. We'd have to wait over a week to know much more, unless they go tweet crazy, since they won't be doing a snapshot this week. --MegaScience 03:55, 29 August 2012 (UTC)
Which is why we should discourage making pages like this until we have information. Right now we have a picture, no comments, no information, just a single picture. I bet there's already a youtube video out there somewhere where someone is citing this page for "Mob heads are coming out next patch!". --Moxxy 04:03, 29 August 2012 (UTC)
UPDATE: For ****s sakes... --Moxxy 04:08, 29 August 2012 (UTC)
LOL, of course there would be, but it's pretty much a no-brainer that this is going to be a new feature. The question's just what it'll be called. There's no problem renaming a page anyways. --M0rphzone(talk) (*How to remove sidebar*)04:33, 29 August 2012 (UTC)
The page was renamed. The discussion was before when it was named "Mob heads" making people think that other mobs heads were going to be items. --Moxxy 04:50, 29 August 2012 (UTC)
Even after it has been renamed, the page is still as empty as before. I believe we should delete it and re-create it after the snapshot is released and we have more info on it. ISQ Talk 14:40, 29 August 2012 (UTC)

No point wasting time. Just leave it. --M0rphzone(talk) (*How to remove sidebar*) 05:26, 30 August 2012 (UTC)

Obtaining a Player's Head[edit]

I just checked if that new trivia piece was true.'s Head Head

That's pretty funny. Notch will literally have a bounty on his head. Collectors will want that. --User:Kanegasi User_talk:KanegasiSpecial:Contributions/Kanegasi 08:06, 16 September 2012 (UTC)

  • LOL I never noticed that, although how possibly could he add player custom heads, because if the skin is not downloaded and put into a specific folder, it would be like having a client mod without the textures, and the head would be invisible. Also he would have to fix the problem with hats not rendering, as collecting a player's head that has say a headcrab on it from Half Life 2 or whatever would not render. I used to use a skin like that but i found a pack of Team Fortress 2 skins and I've been using them. the point is: If you were able to collect player heads, then wouldn't servers include a feature that automatically downloaded a player's skin into a specific folder? Otherwise every head you collect and placed would be invisible. And what about icon textures? Wouldn't there need to be an algorithm that copied a player's head portion of their skin? or would the tooltip be enough? –Preceding unsigned comment was added by Trigger hurt (Talk|Contribs) 14:16, 17 September 2012 (UTC). That would however pose a griefing problem, as it would mean people could easily and quickly import whatever image they want (within size/shape restraints) and place it about your server. (Without building massive structures) Cultist O 22:57, 17 September 2012 (UTC)
  • But however given the fact that the folder could be locked with a passcode known only by the Mojang team. –Preceding unsigned comment was added by Trigger hurt (Talk|Contribs) 00:04, 18 September 2012 (UTC). Please sign your posts with ~~~~
I find your observations very weird. Skins for the player heads will work just like actual skins do now, pulled from the skin server. Custom skins are never downloaded. Any custom skin you see on a server was streamed to that server at the time the player connected. --User:Kanegasi User_talk:KanegasiSpecial:Contributions/Kanegasi 01:55, 18 September 2012 (UTC)
  • Well what about the icon for each head? Does Mojang assume the tooltip will be enough? Or would the icon change to the skin of that player's head with a small black outline like it does for the Steve head? No matter what they need to fix the issue of hats not rendering, or many skins will look really fucked up. Trigger hurt 13:54, 18 September 2012 (UTC)
Looking at your previous edits, your skin should not be placed in your own .minecraft files. No one will ever see it. I think you realized that because you changed your reply. Anyways, I'm sure hats will render just fine when 1.4 comes around. If they can throw a villager head onto a zombie, they can render a player head as an item. As for the inventory icon, I think the Steve head will be just fine. --User:Kanegasi User_talk:KanegasiSpecial:Contributions/Kanegasi 00:52, 19 September 2012 (UTC)
Easy way to prove Kanegasi correct. Disconnect your access to the internet, load up Minecraft, look at your skin. It will be the default skin since your skin is not stored on your computer but on a Mojang server. --Moxxy 00:55, 19 September 2012 (UTC)
  • Not until just recently did i learn how the skin server worked. He is correct, im aware of that now. I guess the tool tip will be enough to tell who's head is who's Trigger hurt 17:20, 19 September 2012 (UTC)
I bed alot of servers that allow for buying and selling blocks will have notch's head for about 1000000000 in game dollars xP Trigger hurt 17:24, 19 September 2012 (UTC)
  • Well i just thought of something: Once a server goes offline, wouldn't every head that has been placed revert to steve's head? Trigger hurt 17:27, 19 September 2012 (UTC)
Offline as in no one can connect? Sounds like a Schrödinger's cat scenario. No one's in the server to know whether or not the heads revert to Steve. A more simpler analogy would be the tree falling in the forest scenario. --User:Kanegasi User_talk:KanegasiSpecial:Contributions/Kanegasi 22:58, 19 September 2012 (UTC)
  • But what about servers run on a pc that someone plays minecraaft on, such as me? I have a server, i run it on my PC all the time, and just to make sure that the server isn't caught off guard until it is ready i use logmein hamachi to set up a private network. But in all seriousness, it is a bukkit server with many plugins, and i will release it to the public as soon as all the plugins i need are updated. But seriously, i have a crappy router extension that constantly loses connection, but since the server is on my pc, i can still play on it. So, to the original question: would all heads placed revert to human heads? Trigger hurt 14:01, 22 September 2012 (UTC)

Epic trolling opportunity?[edit]

creeper head+ creeper sound = trololol :D anyone else got any ideas for trolling with heads?

  • that would probably only work properly if there was a block that allowed for mob sounds to play from it, or if not then just a special block that can play sounds that you choose, such as creeper fuse or mining. But i can see a troll doing that to someone, imagine if they added statues! Trigger hurt 17:44, 11 October 2012 (UTC)

you could do that using the jammy furniture mod, or possibly with the mob disguise plugin. you could also keep a creeper in a cage so he wont explode. then when they realize that its just a head, the creeper will keep making the sound. i would just blow up a tnt after he looks at the creeper head.

i would put it in someone's house and break his torches. then make sure he cant see where the body would be, so he assumes there is one. then blow up a tnt in a safe location. when he runs out of his house, make him fall or die in some completely unrelated trap so he blames it on himself. ultimate troll. 00:09, 15 December 2012 (UTC)

Herobrine head! ;)Lightning360 (talk) 10:34, 3 April 2016 (UTC)

I think that all the heads can be a rare drop and you just kill someone on multiplayer to get the player's head[edit]

I think that would be great Zigzagar 19:11, 22 September 2012 (UTC)

Good thought, but it's not working even now in 1.4.6Tinykangaroo 10:58, 1 January 2013 (UTC) Tinykangaroo
Actually, it does work. Player heads can be obtained by killing someone in all modes of my favorite Multiserver. Does the server use mods or is this page just plain outdated? In any case, heads CAN be obtained quite easily in multiplayer, though they look like steve's head in item form. 02:47, 13 April 2013 (UTC)
Modded server. -- Orthotope 09:17, 13 April 2013 (UTC)

Can't create custom skulls[edit]

I tried creating a skull that had player data as was explained in the changes section, but it did not work. I also tried reloading the skulls data, and the custom nbt data was removed. What does this mean? Additionally, I was trying to use "Herobrine" as the skin, without the quotes. Pokechu22 01:58, 24 September 2012 (UTC)

Why are the mob heads not obtainable in survival?[edit]

Ok, so these heads have been in the game for a few snapshots now, and I was wondering why mobs do not drop them yet. I am not an expert at Java, and understand stuff takes its time, but surely it can't be to hard to add.--Stickman5758 11:58, 7 October 2012 (UTC)

  • Maybe they are working on a code that literally makes their head 'disappear' when it is supposed to drop a head. THAT i want to see. Trigger hurt 15:36, 7 October 2012 (UTC)
  • Monster heads now drop in survival. Create a zombie grinder and you can easily get a couple heads. –Preceding unsigned comment was added by (Talk) 16:05, 24 November 2012 (UTC). Please sign your posts with ~~~~
Incorrect. I've slaughtered hundreds in 1.4.5 without a single head. There is nothing in the code that allows any heads to drop other than wither skeletons'; they cannot be collected without mods. -- Orthotope 23:11, 25 November 2012 (UTC)
Can confirm Orthotope's post, I have a zombie XP and drop grinder on one of my survival worlds, a skeleton XP and drop grinder on another, and the only things I've gotten from them are potatoes, carrots, iron ingots, bows, bones, arrows, rotten flesh, and the occasional shovel. The grinder has been used in both multiplayer and single player, just in case that counts. That is one of the survival worlds I've had since 12w32b came out, give or take a day or two. If I was going to get any heads from mobs I would already have several stacks. #trigger_hurt(I|T|C) Check out my project! 15:15, 26 November 2012 (UTC)
i though zombies and wither skeletons had a rare chance of dropping other skulls. this was announced in one of the snapshots for 1.4, but i have no proof it was ever added even to the snapshot. this was probably removed to be added at a later date, like how chainmail can be obtained from villager trading. 00:15, 15 December 2012 (UTC)
I have a collection of heads skelly, zombie and a creeper. They do drop and are wearable. This is from a vanilla server with no mods installed. These are obtainable from drops. –Preceding unsigned comment was added by (Talk) 13:35, 15 December 2012 (UTC). Please sign your posts with ~~~~
No, they're not. Examination of the game code shows that they're not. If you legitimately (i.e. no Creative menu, no /give) obtained non-Wither mob heads on a server, it means the server is *not* vanilla. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 20:11, 15 December 2012 (UTC)
Sorry there are no mods loaded on the server. I currently have a creeper head sitting over the head of my bed.
The server is either modded or you are lying. As previously mentioned, close examination of the code has shown that they do not drop. Technically, there is no legitimate way to obtain the other heads because mods are Modifications (eg not legitimate!) to the game. #trigger_hurt(I|T|C) Check out my project! 23:53, 15 December 2012 (UTC)

ironic deaths[edit]

you know now that it says on the page that the heads are trophys after the update im popping on my predator skin and drinking a potion of invisibility then im gonna do some serious trophy collecting. 16:07, 11 October 2012 (UTC)

This gives people a purpose for a trophy room lol Trigger hurt 17:41, 11 October 2012 (UTC)

Can rename items via the Anvil repair tool[edit]

Hey I've just thought that, idk if its even possible if I rename the Steve head to me Eg: "TNTUP's Head" loads my head skin. Couldn't try it because of skins server being down at this time. I suppose its not possible, but I wonder if they will add an GUI to input a player's name...

Btw, Why Steve heads doesn't load player's helmets? It sucks with no helm. My skin has an helm, but it only gives a creeper head (Creeper skin with an hoodie). 10:08, 20 October 2012 (UTC)

Named of blocks are lost when placed, so it would revert to a normal anvil when placed. it would work before that, though, but idk what you could use it for. 23:59, 14 December 2012 (UTC)

mobs dropping heads[edit]

Can we have someone provide proof that mobs apparently drop heads if another monster kills them? I seriously doubt that is true. I didn't undo it and will not undo it unless noone can confirm and provide some proof. #trigger_hurt(I|T|C) Check out my project! 18:38, 13 December 2012 (UTC)

I undid it. In cases like this, we need proof that it's true before allowing it on the article, not proof that it's not before taking it down. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 21:23, 13 December 2012 (UTC)
Also, it needs to be verified in a completely unmodded single-player game. Users are often unaware of which mods/plugins servers are using, such as this one. -- Orthotope 22:08, 13 December 2012 (UTC)
Something people need to check before posting about this on a server is what kind of server it is. If it is bukkit, then you are absolutely right. When I stopped using my bukkit server for a while due to it being outdated, I forgot about the mob spawner changer plugin I had installed, and didn't even notice it until I broke a mob spawner by accident and it dropped. But nonetheless, it would be more appropriate in cases such as this to test in single player as well, or provide proof that one's game is not modified. #trigger_hurt(I|T|C) Check out my project! 00:02, 16 December 2012 (UTC)

It was said by Mojang that mob heads are very rare. I have got one on a snapshot server before, but it was snapshot not Vanilla.

Heads ARE available in Survival![edit]

I am playing 1.5.1 multiplayer on Survival (no creative at any time) and I've legitimately obtained 2 zombie heads, a skeleton head and a creeper head. I got the first 3 by my wolves/dogs finishing them off, and the creeper head comes from one I shot in the head with my bow. What's more, dying players seem to drop heads: I fell from a high place once, returned there and found my own head among dropped inventory. Also, another person died next to me and also dropped a head. I'm surprised no-one wrote about this yet. -- 07:46, 30 March 2013 (UTC)

Wearing mob heads[edit]

Will the ability to wear mob heads be added, if it hasn't been already? 21:00, 15 June 2013 (UTC)

Try reading the article. -- Orthotope talk 21:24, 15 June 2013 (UTC)
"The player can also wear heads as disguise, similarly to pumpkins. This will only replace the first layer of the player's skin." Thanks, a re-read did actually help me there. -- 14:59, 16 June 2013 (UTC)

Wither Skeleton Skull Drops[edit]

Sorry if this is in the wrong place, wasn't sure where to put this (Wither, Wither Skeleton, this page, etc etc.)

I was wondering, does anyone know if it's hypothetically possible for Wither Skeletons to drop skulls when they are killed by fall damage, suffocation, and other methods which do not involve a player dealing the final blow? I'm making a fall-damage grinder on Feed the Beast for Wither Skeleton Skulls and I want to know if it's even possible to do so or if I should convert it to a trap where they fall a good distance and are then killed by hand. A quick Google search and some prowling around on this wiki yielded no results, and I felt that if the information is available, it should be on one (if not several) of the pages I mentioned. 21:56, 2 July 2013 (UTC)

It's considered a rare drop, so it will only drop if the wither skeleton is killed by a player (or tamed wolf). -- Orthotope talk 02:39, 3 July 2013 (UTC)
Awesome, thanks for your help. I didn't realize that rare drops would only drop if a player kills the mob, so that's useful information. Now to find a machine in my mod pack that tricks the game code into thinking that the mob is being killed by a player... 17:56, 4 July 2013 (UTC)

Missing MHF Heads[edit]

The caption for Allmobheads.png says that it shows "All official mob heads" but is missing the Golem and Wither heads (MHF_Golem and MHF_Wither, respectively). These two should be recorded, and the caption should be changed.

- Jkat718 (talk) 06:11, 27 November 2013 (UTC)

Golem was there, but out of order. Image has been updated with the Wither head. -- Orthotopetalk 06:53, 27 November 2013 (UTC)

The trivia says that you can't get Wither head. That's not true. In fact, I tried it once: --PrinceGhast (talk) 05:16, 25 July 2014 (UTC)

/give @p skull 1 3 {SkullOwner:MHF_Wither}

Placement of MHF_Apple[edit]

I think the placement for MHF_apple is wrong. I think it should be in the bonus section. 00:07, 28 December 2013 (UTC)

Head wearing mob[edit]

I tried to make a Zombie to wear Notch's head, but the Zombie I spawned was wearing Steve's instead. What did I do wrong? /summon Zombie ~ ~1 ~ {Equipment:[{id:276}{id:311}{id:312}{id:313}

Ocelot head problem[edit]

I am trying to get an Ocelot head for my rollercoaster, and every time I place the head it's a player head! What is going on!? --70px MrPoshLynx (talk) Go Mob head! 18:59, 31 May 2014 (UTC)

/give @p skull 1 3 {SkullOwner:MHF_Ocelot} works for me. It looks like a player head in inventory, but shows up correctly once placed as a block. -- Orthotopetalk 20:04, 31 May 2014 (UTC)

14w30b Head-hunting drop rates[edit]

I was noticing that for example a Looting-Enchanted Sword could finally offer an increased (above zero) chance of dropping a Mob (Zombie, Skeleton, Creeper, beyond the singular Wither Skeleton's, before) Head, in Survival mode even. So wondering about the chances both simply as a Player kill and as a Player killing with an Enchantment. Yilante 22:05, 23 July 2014 (UTC)

They only drop when killed by charged creepers, so enchantments on player equipment have no effect. -- Orthotopetalk 22:18, 23 July 2014 (UTC)

Can Steve heads be gotten in survival as of 14w30c?[edit]

I thought only Skeletons, Creepers and Zombies drop skulls now (and wither skeletons the old way of course) but the article says "all mob heads" are available in survival now. And technically "all except player heads" implies that all mobs should drop their heads (there are spider heads, cow heads, blaze heads, etc after all, thanks to the MHF stuff). I know that's not the case because the MHF heads are counted as "player" heads, but that would be unclear to many people. WildBluntHickok (talk) 00:09, 28 July 2014 (UTC)
