Download link[]

Note to any editors: I know about the download link, because I have downloaded the files myself. Tables 23:05, 1 April 2013 (UTC)

The page previously had a download link on it but it was fake, it's pretty hard to trust stuff like that. LB(T|C) 00:16, 2 April 2013 (UTC)

Fake? It works on my computer!

It's funny how a direct minecraft.net download can be considered fake. http://assets.minecraft.net/secretthings/do_not_open/no_seriously/please_dont_open_or_share_with_anybody/theres_nothing_to_see_here/minecraft_2point0_purple.zip It's not Rocket Science 174.45.28.249 00:35, 2 April 2013 (UTC)

Clicking that URL yields a 403 forbidden message for me, which is why I considereed it fake (I thought someone just typed in some random minecraft.net url). LB(T|C) 05:02, 2 April 2013 (UTC)
I just tried that link and got the file. I also removed the space in it from above. Kanegasi C 05:10, 2 April 2013 (UTC)

Files offline?[]

Hello,

when I try to access one of the archives, each will give back a error message like this:

 -<Error>
     <Code>AccessDenied</Code>
     <Message>Access Denied</Message
     <RequestId>(SOMETHING CRYPTIC HERE)</RequestId
    -<HostId>(SOMETHING CRYPTIC HERE)</HostId>
  </Error>

Any solutions? MinecraftMuffin 09:28, 2 April 2013 (UTC)

Mojang have deleted the files, you can't download anymore the files ;)
--Raffox97 it.Wiki Admin 09:39, 2 April 2013 (UTC)
I don't think they deleted it, because it says "Access Denied", not "The specified key does not exist. So they made the files private, what is as same bad as if they deleted the files. So, couln't make funny things with it like josh my friends etc., but ok :) So, finally, woke up to late today :D In my time zone its already 11:45 AM
MinecraftMuffin 09:47, 2 April 2013 (UTC)
Oh, well. Mediafire upload time!
--93.39.225.97 10:03, 2 April 2013 (UTC)
Not really. While I would love to upload them and share, since I grabbed all three as soon as Hower64 put up the links assuming this would happen, it is against the Minecraft ToU and brand guidelines (and Notch's "one major rule") to distribute anything Mojang has made. This is why hacked clients are put in a bad light and why mods are designed to install the way they do. Kanegasi C 10:16, 2 April 2013 (UTC)
Totally right. So we have to wait and hope that Mojang will made those public again. :) MinecraftMuffin 13:09, 2 April 2013 (UTC)
Well, I found a video on YouTube where somebody gives a link to download 2.0. I did it and it worked ! I think this is the best update ever made in Minecraft, I guess. (floating sheeps ftw) 78.129.95.93 13:23, 2 April 2013 (UTC)

Anvil[]

AnvilFallingApril

Can anyone confirm that when TNT explodes, rarely an anvil falls on the players? ILeon 14:08, 2 April 2013 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure it's when an Etho Slab explodes that it happens 100% of the time. LB(T|C) 20:37, 2 April 2013 (UTC)
I can definitely confirm that when you light an Etho Slap and it explodes (in Blue version at least), an Anvil drops on the player. DwarfWoot 20:40, 2 April 2013 (UTC)

April Fool's Joke![]

I knew it! Coal CS Sponge 14:35, 2 April 2013 (UTC)

Release date[]

I didn't think it would come out this month! I think it would come out in 2015 or next year.....

Random Talk Bubble?[]

I was walking in Survival on 2.0 and randomly when I broke grass a talk bubble appeared and said "Mummy?" This has happened to me twice and i forgot what the other one said. Has this happened to anyone else? Can you guys confirmed it? KyleA2000 23:43, 2 April 2013 (UTC)

  • UPDATE: I found a way to reproduce. And this is on blue version. Create a random survival. Break one or a couple of blocks and a talk bubble would appear saying a random comment like, "I HATE you!" or "..zzZZZ" KyleA2000 23:48, 2 April 2013 (UTC)
  • UPDATE 2: Acually when I start breaking multiple blocks near my spawn point it starts happening multiple times. KyleA2000 23:51, 2 April 2013 (UTC)
  • UPDATE 3/RECAP: So sometimes if you start breaking a block it says a random comment on survival. Tell me if this is happening to you KyleA2000 00:02, 3 April 2013 (UTC)

Yes I saw this while watching a podcast. The blocks will say things like, "That tickles" or "Ow!". Mavik 01:07, 7 April 2013 (UTC)

Exploding Furnaces?[]

I was playing Minecraft Blue (Normal) and I was cooking sand, next thing I know.. The furnace exploded! Anyone else having this happen? Bug? Or is it something they put there on purpose? 65.19.131.250 10:32, 3 April 2013 (UTC)Ben

  • It's there on purpose. I didn't know this at first and got scared when my house exploded. Its just there as an Aprils Fools joke. I know it is on purpose because it says this in the changelog. 24.131.165.39 20:18, 3 April 2013 (UTC)

It is a new furnace mechanic that they added. The furnace might overheat and explode. Mavik 01:08, 7 April 2013 (UTC)

Including download links[]

While the official downloads have been removed, the jars have been reposted to various filesharing sites. Normally I'd be hesitant to link to such sites, as there's no guarantee the files haven't been modified. However, Dinnerbone retweeted a couple of those links on April 5 (specifically these two; I can't find a way to link directly to the retweet). Is this sufficiently official endorsement to allow including those links on the page? -- Orthotope 00:45, 7 April 2013 (UTC)

I missed those. Going through his tweets, he confirmed his retweets here and here. I would like to say that counts as endorsement to allow the 2.0 copies to be distributed. I originally would've wanted to find a stable way to share the copies I got, but I've been defending Mojang's "do not distribute" rule. If Dinnerbone's okay with it, then I am as well. Kanegasi C 01:01, 7 April 2013 (UTC)
I went ahead and pulled the individual jar links out of the main mediafire link. I, too, don't know how to link to a retweet, but I used the first tweet that mentions the retweet for the reference. Kanegasi C 01:10, 7 April 2013 (UTC)
For security's sake, I used two separate freeware file comparing programs and compared the files hosted on those mediafire links, in their entirety, with the files I retrieved from assets.minecraft.net. All three are identical. Kanegasi C 01:31, 7 April 2013 (UTC)

Technical Info[]

Wouldn't it be useful to post technical information (block ids, entity ids, etc.) about this release.? Although specific for April 1st, it contains several differences over version 1.5.1 whose information may be useful for future modding developement for 1.6.x (if they decide to implement some things in future)... 187.112.93.182 00:52, 11 April 2013 (UTC)

Good idea, but I don't have a copy of the .jar file to grab those IDs

Mavik 01:07, 11 April 2013 (UTC)

You can use INVEdit to get the ids and metadata from blocks/items 187.112.93.182 01:25, 11 April 2013 (UTC)

About the jars, links are available on this page (above/sorry doublepost).187.112.93.182 01:27, 11 April 2013 (UTC)

MY FINDINGS I know this is rather old talk portion but to those who need info on the Entities...

The Pig Horse is just a normal pig with a tag integer ModelType:1 to call the skin change; ModelType:0 is of coarse the normal Pig.

Similarly the Cow has a tag integer this time Type:1. Mooshrooms as you know appear to look like normal cows and cow horses, but with mushrooms on their backs. They too have the tag.

The Redstone bug is just a Silverfish with a tag integer Color:######### and the integer is a really high number (8 digets). I did a test and change the tag to 99999999 which resulted in a white silverfish; again I tested with another number and got a yellow silverfish, so I'm sure every color is possible. The normal silverfish has a tag of Color:0.

The Friendly wither is Id:WitherHug I can't figure out a numerical Id, perhaps the Id numbers were phased out already by that time. Tell me if you know a way. I tried to make spawner for the WitherHug, and although it showed a WitherHug inside, only pigs were spawned. I think it is just similar to how a spawner can't spawn a normal WitherBoss. Additionally WitherHug has a tag short Heads:0 which increases as you grow heads on it.

The chicken has a tag byte DiamondChicken:0 and 1 if it is a diamond chicken. So perhaps the name "blue chicken" should be dropped from the wiki page in my opinion.

The domesticated animals (the tame-able / feed-able ones) all have an additional tag byte Fatness:#.

Sheep have the additional tag byte Floating:0 and 1 if they are floating.

The PigZzmbie is holding an enchanted sign with enchantments id:16 lvl:4 and id:19 lvl:2. You can look those up as I'm not that interested in what the enchantments are.

The Furnace tile entity has a tag integer Heat:##. I didn't care to look much more into it, but the integer was 40 and I had only just started smelting iron ore in it; and a sec later 73. I'm not sure how long before it explodes.

I can't find and special tags for the Flopper (dropper) tile entity, so it shooting out fish must be in the Java code. Nor can I find anything with that causes the speach bubbles on blocks.

I found all this info using MCedit and the NBT Editor Filter. If you don't understand the Entity Tags see this page http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Chunk_format#Entity_format

Come on![]

The working links dont work, it says java corrupted every time I try.

Same! Anyone? 64.83.234.211 01:28, 5 January 2014 (UTC)

Command blocks[]

I heard on SethBling's video on this that there were crafting recipes for command blocks, but there is no support or denial on this page. My favorite field in Minecraft is redstone, so this would be a real plus in my opinion, but again, is it real?

Possible sequel?[]

I have the feeling for this year's April Fools joke Mojang might make a "Minecraft 3.0" Joke for April Fools? If this is true I would recommend making a sequel section on this page, or create a whole new page for it? --MarioProtIV (talk) 19:00, 22 February 2014 (UTC)

The sequel is released as Minecraft 15w14a on 2015 April Fools --200.127.21.210 23:27, 2 September 2015 (UTC)

Trivia has something to do with 1.8?[]

Why does the Trivia section have something related to 1.8? This is a version from before 1.8 was released. :/

As discussed above, the only reason the current links are on the page is because they were uploaded by Sacheverell, one of the Minecraft Forum admins, and implicitly endorsed by Dinnerbone. I don't know what's in this new packaging, and unless it was posted by someone reputable, I don't trust it to be authentic or safe. -- Orthotopetalk 07:15, 28 September 2014 (UTC)

UPDATE 14 June 2015:I reuploaded to fix the launcher not loading bug --190.190.43.37 23:57, 14 June 2015 (UTC)

Really late response, but since an IP bumped it:  Oppose - The old links were added because they were uploaded by an official Minecraft Forum admin and then endorsed by Dinnerbone. The new links are just plain copyvio. --ToonLucas22 (talk) 00:07, 15 June 2015 (UTC)

Change 3 to 6 in stab[]

JSON File Found[]

I found a JSON file that works with the 2.0 JAR files, with a tiny modification (Just the "id": "2.0" needs to be changed to the desired name and it has to be saved as a JSON file). Would I be allowed to post a link to it on the actual page? Here is the link: (https://pastebin.com/hMZc1JzY) in case anyone wants to test it. I did not make this; I found this after hours of searching, and can confirm it works with the Red, Blue, and Purple editions on the newest launcher and the 1.6.84-j launcher without any extra bugs. (The download links for the JAR files are already on the 2.0 page) –Preceding unsigned comment was added by Kkellogg378 (talkcontribs) at 16:39, 19 January 2018 (UTC). Google copyright claimed it?[]

The link for version 2.0 Blue is now gone. The statement is that it was copyright claimed by Google (that's what it says right here in the Minecraft wiki). Please tell me what that's about. I didn't know that Google had any copyright on the Minecraft games. Videogamer555 (talk) 10:48, 18 December 2018 (UTC)

Incorrect text below the 2nd screenshot[]

The text below the 2nd screenshot (at the top of the page) reads "What happens when the player creates a new world in this version." without specifying what version it means. It's showing super hostile mode so it applies to 2.0 Red and 2.0 Purple but NOT the original 2.0 Blue. It would be better to either list the versions or just say it's a picture of the monsters summoned by super-hostile mode. (as I'm not signed in I can't change a protected page. Someone else will have to do it)

Fixed download link with permanent copies[]

These new links are hosted on i.selic.re, my friend's personal website. finding the jarfiles was annoyingly tedious, and i thought since blue was taken down by google, and i could put the files back up, i may as well unify the links (i.e. make them all direct to the same site for consistency) Torzod (talk) 01:29, 3 June 2019 (UTC)

It's best not to link to random links for downloads on the wiki. I'll try and get them uploaded to a more trustworthy site (archive.org). – Nixinova Nixinova sig1 Nixinova sig2 03:08, 3 June 2019 (UTC)

Mob sounds[]

Do they use the same sounds as their model base variants? I'm unable to download the jar and test it for myself right now, but it might be useful to note on the page. Aepokk (talk) 05:03, 23 June 2020 (UTC)
