Lost File[]

I can't find my minecraft.jar file. Can someone tell me where it is?

Directory?[]

I think this page should contain a directory, like the one on the .minecraft page. Firebastard 23:45, 10 May 2013 (UTC)

That could be done. It's pretty long, though, even omitting all the class files; the textures folder alone has nearly 500 files in it. -- Orthotope 10:33, 11 May 2013 (UTC)

Obsolete 1.6+[]

Starting from minecraft 1.6, minecraft will no longer store version specific jars and files in the bin folder, and will be stored in the VERSIONS folder, and no longer called 'minecraft.jar'. -- Extreme ( T|C ) 21:01, 16 June 2013 (UTC)

Rename to client.jar[]

The name Minecraft.jar doesn't feel right. Plus, Mojang used the term client.jar in their files. Whenever you download a .jar file from Mojang, it will download you a client.jar file. So this should be renamed.--Skylord wars (talk) 06:56, 13 May 2018 (UTC)

This page is named Minecraft.jar because that was the name of the .jar file for years (at least up to 2013, when I stopped saving the .jar files from new versions). Though that being said, I don't have an opinion on what the page should be named now (least of all because it's been some time since I even booted the launcher, and at this point I don't even have it installed). ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 07:27, 13 May 2018 (UTC)
This link https://launcher.mojang.com/mc/game/1.12.2/client/0f275bc1547d01fa5f56ba34bdc87d981ee12daf/client.jar shows that Mojang has started using client.jar as the name. All download links from pre-classic to 1.20.2 and have renamed to client.jar. Skylord wars (talk) 10:05, 13 May 2018 (UTC)
Turns out Mojang had 3 places to store their versions.
  1. https://assets.minecraft.net/1_5_2/minecraft.jar
  2. https://s3.amazonaws.com/Minecraft.Download/versions/1.5.2/1.5.2.jar
  3. https://launcher.mojang.com/mc/game/1.5.2/client/465378c9dc2f779ae1d6e8046ebc46fb53a57968/client.jar

The assets.minecraft.net is the one that downloads minecraft.jar, which is the one that you're saying. The https://aws.amazon.com/s3/ link is the one soon gonna be deprecated. Currently, the launcher uses the new format which downloads client.jar. Since, minecraft.jar is no longer used, it should be renamed to client.jar. skylord_wars (talk) 17:02, 26 May 2018 (UTC)

Why not make a "client.json" page?[]

Each version folder in .minecraft\versions\<version> contains a .jar file and a .json file. This page is for the .jar file. So why not make a page for the .json file too? (I know, the JSON format would be like 5 pages, but I'm not bored to write it) Awaiting your responses.--87.202.191.240 07:37, 29 June 2019 (UTC)

Sure. – Nixinova Nixinova sig1 Nixinova sig2 07:51, 29 June 2019 (UTC)
OK. But I need some time (or even days) to prepare the JSON format in a .txt file and when I'm ready, I will create the page, write some information and then copy paste the JSON format.--87.202.191.96 12:08, 29 June 2019 (UTC)
I'm done with the JSON format. I can create the page, but I want your opinions about the name of the page. Should I name it "client.json", "minecraft.json" or "VERSION.json"?--87.202.191.120 15:18, 30 June 2019 (UTC)
I don't think "minecraft.json" is a good name, so should I name the page "client.json" or "VERSION.json"?--87.202.191.120 13:28, 1 July 2019 (UTC)
I will name it "client.json" as no one answers.--87.202.191.168 06:01, 2 July 2019 (UTC)

Text in the opening summary[]

The text appears to have the code text in unnecessary places. I checked the edit page and I found nothing. Is there anything that could cause this? Thanks, —98.230.115.82 18:47, 22 October 2020 (UTC)
