Blank map?

I've already used the map before and i load a few more using empty maps, then the maps just stop working after a while. Why is this? (DarkWolfInsanity)

I have the same issue: Maps become empty. Only solution is to make a new map of the corresponding area. 94.4.98.97 21:35, 10 April 2013 (UTC)
In single player, if you save and quit to title, and then load the world, the map comes back.--76.21.7.30 03:24, 12 April 2013 (UTC)

I've got the same issue. Anyone know how to resolve this on SMP? Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

It does help to delete the height, width and dimension tags from the corresponding map file in "<worldfolder>\data" with the NBTExplorer. With this, you don't have to change the damage IDs of your maps in player inventories, chests, item frames, blabla. You will need to reexplore the maps area, though. Map not working

I push the right click button but still is not working and i have moved a lot it was created on earth nut not working on earth. Is it my controls? And i have restarted so it is ticking me off this is 1.6.2

Map not centered when created

Is this a bug? the area that i want to map is entirely at the corners of four maps no matter how many i make. 1.6.2 96.61.160.59 00:55, 14 July 2013 (UTC)

Yeah this happens to me as well if it is intended I hate it if its a bug i hope it gets fixed cause it should be centered and then expand on all sides equally when adding more pages to it to make it bigger, tho when made into the max size it will be centered but who want all there maps max size only to be centered. Like I said really annoying if its not a bug and should be fixed if it isn't a bug as well. --Rocket611 02:47, 1 August 2013 (UTC)
amh11706 on Youtube has a nice description of 1.6 map behavior. This is not a bug, just another 'feature' to make things simpler. 71.61.72.9 22:41, 2 August 2013 (UTC)

No map blip

We are playing SMP and my own map blip has disappeared, so I can't tell where I am. It appears to have happened due to a bug involving maps on placed on walls. For example, we had three maps on walls as well as me and one other player, both me and one of the wallmap blips disappeared. We've tried removing all the wallmaps but one green blip remains despite there being no wallmap there anymore.

Logging out and then back in again has not changed anything, nor has anything involving beds, leaving the map or going back and forth into the Nether.

I've also noticed that this bug doesn't seem to have been mentioned anywhere.

I've had this same problem on my server. I know restarting the server usually fixes this, but only temporarily. I've also noticed that the player arrow markers don't exactly disappear, but they are under the explored areas of the map, because if you travel to the edge of your map you will see your arrow peep out from underneath the main part of the map and onto the map border. In any case, this problem renders maps somewhat useless in navigating on the explored part of the maps. Is there any permanent fix to this? Again, this is on an SMP server. --Putchute 17:02, 7 August 2013 (UTC)

So far, the only way I've seen this resolved is by deleting all of the map#.dat and the idcount.dat files in the world data folder, then restarting the server and re-making and re-exploring all of the maps. Putting it in an item frame definitely breaks the map, though, and it apparently will break all of the maps on the server, making them and all other maps created afterwards with the same idcount.dat file completely useless.
Honestly I blame whoever re-did the map system in the first place. The old maps works just fine, and this stuff never happened before they changed how maps worked in the 1.4 update. If it ain't broken, don't fix it, right?
I just consider all the new maps to be utterly useless anyways. I recommend getting the coordinates of the place you want to remember, and writing down the (x,y,z) coordinates, and then navigate using the F3 function like a Minecraft GPS.
