"Somewhat non-descriptive"[]

Does this really need to be said for every single snapshot? And what does it matter anyway? The logs here would be here regardless of the descriptiveness of the official changelog. 91.125.163.233 18:35, 10 May 2012 (UTC)

New page for the Pre-Releases[]

Following some talk on the talk:version_history page, I took it upon myself to make a new page to house the info for the pre-releases. If you see any wikisyntax errors, please do fix them, and discuss any opinions on if this was a great or a bad idea. UGoBoom 18:49, 2 October 2011 (UTC)

So happy to see that PR's have their own page now. Makes more sense considering they are not final versions and can not be the "version history" at that time. --Throex 21:02, 2 October 2011 (UTC)

Design[]

Whats with the design of this page? Looks like crap..

Someone removed most of the 1.9 table; I just reverted their edit. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 20:52, 4 October 2011 (UTC)

Hardcore Bug[]

Difficulty of hardcore is determined by previous game setting. If you set the game to peaceful in a creative mode game, exit, and enter an hardcore world, no monsters will spawn. This can be corrected by quitting the hardcore game and entering creative and setting the game to either easy, normal or hard. With those 3 settings monster spawn in hardcore, but they never spawn if the previous game were on peaceful.

Removed "access to Ender"[]

Since the portals don't actually have an active use yet, I feel its inappropriate to list access to new realms on the version history, and near as I can tell the "skylands" area is a bug and shouldn't be considered a new realm or biome. And its certainly not the Ender. Schizmo 04:16, 8 October 2011 (UTC)

Purple border correction[]

In the 1.9pre3 page it says that purple borders have been added to item labels. This was added in 1.9pre2 not 1.9pre3. Please correct me if I am wrong. EnderCreeper 13:35, 8 October 2011 (UTC)

You were right. Nice catch; some people here just do not know what they are talking about... UGoBoom 02:43, 9 October 2011 (UTC)

Ok I made the change I was talking about it should be fixed now. EnderCreeper 03:51, 9 October 2011 (UTC)

Baby Animals[]

Should they be considered a new mob (they are listed as that now)? I don't consider them a new mob, but a new feature. Just because they are a baby cow, or pig..they are still the pig/cow mobs we have now just babies. --Throex 18:29, 10 October 2011 (UTC)

UI[]

UI disappears after F5[]

In 1.9pre4, the block palette UI is missing from the regular game screen after pressing F5 to cycle the third person views. The UI is missing but dimmed as usual when the inventory is visible. Was this in creative? In survival if this means the scrolling item selection ui this does not happen for me. -java 1.7 x64

I don't understand the "-java 1.7 x64" part and it seems your grammar is troubled. And why did you ask a question?. Also, did you accidentally hit F1? Do you have mods on? Head over to the forums if you still have trouble. Also, please sign your comments. DantonDamnark 22:42, 14 October 2011 (UTC)

Enchantments[]

Fortune enchantment only affects some block types[]

In 1.9pre4, according to Enchantments, Fortune seems to work only if the block would drop a different item type upon being mined. eg coal, diamonds work, ore blocks do not.

Items[]

Arrows shot with a fully charged bow into Enderman in The End will cause the game to crash. This breaks the world How does this happen? endermen now dodge any arrow shot at them!

Request for lock[]

We need a page protection on this page due to vandalism and lower-quality content additions that I've seen by IPs, not accounts. The same protection as Version History will be fine. UGoBoom 00:25, 12 October 2011 (UTC)

I agree and support this notion. More so after seeing the previous 3 topics (above this one) are unsigned and not very well written. DantonDamnark 22:23, 14 October 2011 (UTC)
I agree as well after seeing how badly the page for gold was griefed (the word gold ingot was replaced with worthless idiot etc.) So maybe only users should be able to edit the actual pages, while those who haven't joined yet can put their suggestions in the discussion page. Pre-release links[]

Is it possible to make pre-release labels in the left column of the table be links to download that pre-release (or to the site where this can be done?). Would allow for more people to easily use them and help test them for Mojang.

New Camera Angles[]

This new feature in pre release 5 with "Y", "H", "N" and "M" (I know there are others) seem to be confusing? I know jeb has stated that they were not meant to be there and is probably for bug testing on his part. But why would he need that feature to bug test? I think it was a test of his for upcoming features.. I see no other reason why he would need it. Any one else got ideas? --Throex TALK|CONT 19:58, 27 October 2011 (UTC)

Slimes in pre5[]

I went from meeting exactly one slime in prereleases 2 through 4 to killing them by the dozen in pre5, all in the same (hardcore) world. I don't know if they were made more common, or if it was a bug that got fixed. Can someone confirm? LTK 70 17:23, 29 October 2011 (UTC)

Doors[]

I opened one in prerelease 6 with a pressure plate. So that means it can be openened without Redstone right?--Enderdude 19px (TC) 16:29, 11 November 2011 (UTC)

  • pressure plates provide a redstone signal, which opens the door. Perhaps better wording would be "Wooden doors cannot be opened without a redstone signal", but basically it's the same thing.
Unless Redstone and Redstone signals are the same thing, not really, acceptable wording compromise though. 86.174.121.204 14:16, 12 November 2011 (UTC)
Still, on the other hand, it assumes that everyone will know that levers etc. produce redstone signals, which I doubt is the case. Far better is just Wooden Doors cannot be open directly, which is what I had anyway, I'll just go back to that. 86.174.121.204 15:06, 12 November 2011 (UTC)

Why is it listed in the version history of prelease 6 that you can't place torches, levers and glowstone anymore? I can place them just fine. --Throex TALK|CONT 19:07, 11 November 2011 (UTC)

1.9pre6 Cannot open wooden doors without redstone[]

You can open wooden doors by lever, button, pressure plate etc. in addition to wiring up redstone. I tried changing the entry, but it has been changed to say only redstone will open a wooden door again. 86.184.4.40 00:39, 12 November 2011 (UTC)

Lever, button, pressure plates ARE redstone. –User:Ultradude25 (User:Ultradude25/t|User:Ultradude25/c) at 06:47, 12 November 2011 (UTC)
No they aren't, nor do they require redstone. Nothing on Minepedia supports that. 86.174.121.204 14:13, 12 November 2011 (UTC)
What do they give out? A redstone signal, thus they are just as "redstone" as wire and torches. –User:Ultradude25 (User:Ultradude25/t|User:Ultradude25/c) at 16:16, 12 November 2011 (UTC)
Hmm, how to put it? If levers are redstone because they both give out a redstone signal, then pigs are cows because they both chase after player-held wheat. The definition of Redstone isn't *just* "gives off a redstone signal", that's just (part) of what it does, it's also, well, everything else in the Minepedia article. Things can share properties or effects and still be seperate distinct things. If not, levers et al. would simply redirect to the redstone article.
If you say something is redstone, then it means it gives of a redstone signal. It's just a lazier way of saying it, simple as that. –User:Ultradude25 (User:Ultradude25/t|User:Ultradude25/c) at 16:38, 12 November 2011 (UTC)
"Redstone power", "redstone signal", "power", "redstone", community uses all these words to describe one thing. I prefer "redstone signal". — MiiNiPaaT|C 16:42, 12 November 2011 (UTC)
Well, according to Minepedia, redstone (disambiguation) neither refers to redstone signals (article not found), nor levers. If the community does indeed use redstone as a noun to refer to redstone signals then it should say so, and the same if the comminity does indeed use redstone to mean levers, buttons, etc. 86.174.121.204 17:07, 12 November 2011 (UTC)
ps. Never heard anyone ever describe a lever as redstone! 86.174.121.204 17:11, 12 November 2011 (UTC)
This is a wiki, we wouldn't use shortcuts, just because the community does. So of course it doesn't show it here. –User:Ultradude25 (User:Ultradude25/t|User:Ultradude25/c) at 21:21, 12 November 2011 (UTC)
I disagree.. I have never heard of a lever, button or pressure plate being called "redstone". All tree can be used with and with redstone wiring attached.. So with out it attached you have to against the object for into work.. The redstone wire allows you to be at a distance, thus sending a current. So is the lever on the redstone page anywhere? Listed as a redstone entity or item? No.. Disagree -Throex TALK|CONT 05:44, 14 November 2011 (UTC)
Well I have. Either way it's a null point as it shouldn't be used on the wiki anyway. –User:Ultradude25 (User:Ultradude25/t|User:Ultradude25/c) at 06:50, 14 November 2011 (UTC)

In the changelog for 1.7, notch himself said that TNT can now "only be activated by redstone and fire" and he meant levers, buttons and pressure plates too. And the thing is, noone will say "you need two planks to craft a redstone" but they can say "we need a redstone thing for this" and with the second one they might mean a lever.Jippiedoe 21:39, 27 November 2011 (UTC)

B1.9.6 overall performance[]

minecraft always was laggy for me, and with laggy i mean often not playable on when monsters are near because it was hard to fight them. but pre-release 6 seems to have changed overall performance a lot for me. It's faster than any version i played before and gets even better when i change the new particle option. anyone else having a similar approvement in framerates? --Wally

Pre-release .jars not signed?[]

The pre-release jars since at least the 1.8 prereleases, unlike the regular .jars, does not contain MOJANG_C.DSA and MOJANG_C.SF in the META-INF folder, which seems to suggest that they are not cryptographically signed like the normal versions. This may also mean that one does not need to delete META-INF when installing mods into them; I have not tested this, however. Http500 23:10, 13 November 2011 (UTC)

RC2 Strange object in The End[]

The End, after defeating the dragon, although I'm not sure if it makes any diference. You can see something that looks like a room with its walls inverted in the background of The End. It seems to be floating in mid-air when going up-down, but stays in the same place when moving left-right. You might need to be in the exact same spot to see it, since it tends to disappear in an unlading chunk fashion when you move around. Secreenshot: [3]

I myself was unable to reproduce that. How very strange that thing is... UGoBoom 01:40, 14 November 2011 (UTC)

i have seen this too, i think.. it kept disappearing when i tried to get closer and i could find the source, too (by chance): it is the "Star Map" in the Spring where you can return to the Main World.. because this thingy has the same form and i could get the view angle in such a way that the Portal Block was visible but the Star Map inside was not displayed - and the part of it which was not displayed was not on this occurence, too 77.4.193.97 21:43, 16 November 2011 (UTC)

This is one of the few locations I've ever seen this mentioned! I found it first on a multiplayer world, then confirmed it to exist in SSP as well. RC2 Strange Sugar Cane[]

In my 1.8.1 world, I've just found Sugar cane and I gathered it. I plant these one angain, I wait like .....3 days (I surround it with torches) and it refuse to grow. It happens both in SP and SMP... My sugar cane in RC2 is growing quite well. The only thing I can think of that can be an issue is if you are too far from it while waiting for it to grow. Like, for example, if you go mining in a distant biome away from home (since the game won't update your stuff if you're too far from it). Skaruts 23:13, 18 November 2011 (UTC)

Boats vs Lily pads[]

Boats break when hitting lily pads. I appreciate that they're solid now, but breaking a boat? Unsure if bug or intentional, but didn't see it mentioned here so I thought I'd add it. Fishpaw 23:08, 16 November 2011 (UTC)

Iron armor doesn't degrade?[]

I don't know where that information came from, but my iron armor in RC2 degrades quite normally. I think this should be checked.

I believe the difference is in the armor indicator bar. I think the armor keeps giving the same protection (armor bar stays the same) while its damage increases (check inventory). I'm not entirely sure, because it seems to be behaving a bit differently in the latest versions, but that's what it seemed to me. (Noticed in RC2 - I will test a bit more) -Skaruts 23:08, 18 November 2011 (UTC)

Less importantly how does it effect the sapling drop?(does it replace it or is it in addition? (I assume it does not happen if you use shears; but if it does how does it affect the leaf drop?) Stability Proposal[]

Hey guys, I'm the same guy who created this page and I'd like to propose another column to be included in the notes. I would like for there to be a stability column where it defines if that version is stable, unstable, or somewhere inbetween. This is how I think it should be.

Stability Ranking What defines this type of stability Examples
Unstable If this version has crashing/major bugs in the core gameplay, then it will be marked unstable and therefore not recommended for play.
  • 1.8pre1 (Broken furnaces)
  • 1.0rc1 (Tools break in 8 uses)
Semi-Stable If this version has no major bugs in areas of the game that are required for game progression, but still has crash bugs in specifics or has annoyances in core gameplay, it will be marked as Semi-Stable and is recommended for play only with caution
  • 1.8pre2 (Shift-click crash)
  • Most 1.9prereleases
  • Especially 1.9pre6 (Doors unusable annoyance)
  • 1.0rc2 (Double door bug)
Stable If there are little to no crash bugs, and core gameplay and even the specifics work as intended, it will be marked as stable and is recommended for play if not a permanent upgrade to.
  • 11w47a
  • 11w48a

Now I hope this can guide noob players who want to play any of these versions on which ones they should use. Tell me what you think with teh  I agree and  I disagree UGoBoom 02:48, 7 December 2011 (UTC)

11w49a Pumpkin and Melon Farming[]

In 11w49a, my Pumpkin and Melon farm has been able to grow Melons and Pumpkins onto plain dirt blocks that I hadn't gotten to tilling yet, although the stems themselves are still on watered farmland. Anyone else had their farms grow like this yet? My guess is its either a bug, or it was made like that on purpose to streamline piston powered farms.

Confirmed, I'm also on 11w49a with no plugins (anyone know if it could happen on 48a?) I imagine it's not a bug, but rather a way to make things more intuitive (you might not think to till both if you haven't been told) On the other hand it did make hoe durability more relevant (which I liked.) Zombie behaviour different?[]

Title. Zombies definitely seem to act rather differently than they did previously, but no other mobs seem to have any changes. In question, their pathfinding seems to be a bit better, attempting to jump up available exits when attempting to reach the player instead of simply jumping there. As perhaps a bug, they also seem to be incapable of seeing the player when more than two blocks above them at any valid distance horizontally. Shellface 17:36, 9 January 2012 (UTC)

Vines slowing down bug(?)[]

I don't think the vines slowing down the player is a bug, should it be removed until it is confirmed if this is a bug? Xilefian 22:23, 26 January 2012 (UTC)

I agree. It makes sense that walking through vines would slow you down. I also think this should be confirmed as a bug before it is listed as such. --67.2.125.114 18:46, 30 January 2012 (UTC)
It's the nature of ladders. I'm sure that the vine code is the same as the ladder code but without the collision box, so just like when walking through ladders, walking through vines slows you down. Though, I would have to sway towards this not being a bug. LB 01:42, 1 February 2012 (UTC)

Swimming (or Not) Mobs - Bug?[]

While playing SSP with version 12w04a, I had a lot of trouble getting mobs (specifically cows and sheep) to swim toward me while I was holding wheat. They tracked me by rotating their heads and bodies, but didn't actually move. I had to push them out of the water before they would start following me. I think (and hope) this is a bug, not a feature, and should be listed on the Notable Bugs list for version 12w04a. --67.2.125.114 18:44, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

This bug has existed since wheat was made to attract passive mobs, but it is annoying and should be addressed. GhengopelALPHA
I agree, and it might should be a suchlike reason that make Ocelots release particles when they swim. I think they don't have a enhanced AI to swim. SrDonaldo 19:05, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

Major Crafting Bug in 12w05a[]

If you craft e.g. breads by putting in a few wheats and you want to take out all the - with the given resources craftable - breads by pressing "SHIFT" you only get half of the breads you're supposed to get. So you lose lots of ressources which is quite annoying.

Lava Sounds[]

Is anyone else hearing the sounds that lava makes in this 12w05a update? Or was it always like that? --XZippy 18:48, 2 February 2012 (UTC)

No, it wasn't. I was just making tests in 1.1, and then loaded 12w05b in the same map and started hearing weird sounds. My only guess was that they were lava sounds, as there is nothing else there to make noises (MCEdited flat map), except for a creeper, but the sound persisted after I killed him. Skaruts 14:53, 5 February 2012 (UTC)

12w05a[]

Shouldn't 12w05a1 and 12w05a2 be treated as a single entry, since Mojang themselves are treating them as a single entry (12w05a2 is not, for example, being called 12w05b, or being given a separate post on their blog)? Perhaps a brief note could be mentioned somewhere that 12w05a was initially launched with a crash bug that was quickly fixed. Either way, most of the newly introduced bugs were introduced in 12w05a1, and not 12w05a2, and so either all of the new features belong under 12w05a2, or the new bugs belong with them under 12w05a1. I would personally favour combining the two entries into a single one with a brief note mentioning the additional bug which was fixed a few hours after 12w05a was released. 109.246.254.186 18:48, 2 February 2012 (UTC)

Wow, someone fixed this while I was writing this. Good show! 109.246.254.186 18:50, 2 February 2012 (UTC)

install snapshot crash!![]

hi i was looking around minecraft wiki a little and looking at the Creeper page when i saw about the Ocelots and wanted to get the snapshot. now i've never used a snapshot version before, and today i did by dragging the snapshot .jar into my minecraft.jar and now it freezes at the "finished downloading" screen!! and no, i did not click "force update"... plz help!!

If you put the snapshot jar into the existing minecraft.jar, that is what will happen. The freeze is the visible sign of the signature verification of minecraft.jar failing. You should instead replace the existing minecraft.jar file with the snapshot you downloaded. —kpreid 13:15, 4 February 2012 (UTC)

Also if your trying to mod it don't that also makes it crash for some reason which kinda annoys me since my texturepack that i use is dependant on the hd fixer. if anyone could help with this let us know (Sparda3092 00:50, 9 February 2012 (UTC))

thanks kpreid and sparda! u helped me alot!! and sparda if mojang makes it available to mod snapshot .jar's can you go to my profile (http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/User:5chris100) and make a new topic saying that the .jars are moddable and put ur signature?? tanks!!! 5chris100 04:18, 11 February 2012 (UTC)

with mods i discovered that the only ones that will work which fix texture packs is the MC patcher mods (Sparda3092 18:04, 11 February 2012 (UTC))

about snapshots[]

I don't know if it is idiot-level simple, but it might be a good idea to put a sentence in the article explaining how to play with these. How to install them etc. for those of us who don't know.

I second this. Please remember to sign your comments with four tildes. Euridicus 05:15, 11 February 2012 (UTC)

The spawn egg "bug" dosent just apply to eggs.[]

Since the start of creative mode if you have a block that changes with damage and you click on one of the damage alterations you will get another of the block in hand. 60.231.3.139 21:15, 8 February 2012 (UTC)

What do you want? Please rethink your sencence and then write again. If it should be a suggestion then use the suggestionthread in the forum MG127 16:53, 10 February 2012 (UTC)
To clarify, if you pick up (e.g.) some red wool, then click on blue wool, the stack you're holding increases in size as if you'd clicked on red wool again. Whereas if you click on a different block, the stack you're holding is discarded. This also happens with dyes, leaves, wood, saplings, grass/ferns, slabs, and stone brick. -- Orthotope 20:08, 10 February 2012 (UTC)

Modding Snapshots[]

I know there not part of the full game yet but i was wondering why we couldn't mod them since when they are released they are going to be modded anyways. when i try to use the HD fixer mod it just crashes my Minecraft. (Sparda3092 00:53, 9 February 2012 (UTC))

okay i got the HD fixer to work i just forgot to turn off the other modds in my MC patcher (Sparda3092 01:20, 9 February 2012 (UTC))

CLIMBING VINES!!!![]

i dont know if its something new or been there for awhile but i typed villages in the world seed generator and i was spawned in a jungle with lots of vines and huge 4 by 4 block tree's that are very tall i went to jump from tree top to tree top when i unexpectedly fell and rubbed up against a tree with vines and i started to slowly decent upon moving forward i climbed up the tree by the fines!!!! (Sparda3092 23:40, 9 February 2012 (UTC))

Everything is known. you can climb up a vine if there is a block behind, else it works like a normal ladder except that you can't climb up. you can hold on it with pressing shift etc. MG127 16:56, 10 February 2012 (UTC)

Canadian Language[]

The page lists the random addition of "ay" to various items as a bug, when this is likely intentional. It should be noted that the typical spelling is "eh," though. Euridicus 05:17, 11 February 2012 (UTC)

Yes, I thought the same thing. Some people must be intensely stupid. 85.81.40.95 14:16, 11 February 2012 (UTC)

everyone knows that canadian's say "eh" and not "ay". "ay" should be in the scottish language. (Sparda3092 17:42, 11 February 2012 (UTC))

That's right Canadians say "eh" and Australians say "ay" 114.73.85.25 16:43, 16 February 2012 (UTC)

Some tribes of warrior are known to go "ayayayayayayaya!". A common mistake is saying the Fonz goes "aaaayyy" but it's more commonly "eeeyyy".

More about mods (or my theory for why they won't work)[]

Ok i just thought of this, mods wont work because they were not made for the snapshots..... in a better way to describe it... you cant get a mod from beta version to work with full release version. Snapshots are basically a beta version for future updates and the mods we are trying to use except for the hd texture fixer mod are made for version 1.1 while these snapshots are basically version 1.2 (Sparda3092 18:13, 11 February 2012 (UTC))

...Isn't that obvious? I really don't think anybody needed that clarified. --GenericCola 04:30, 24 February 2012 (UTC)

As obvious as it may be not everyone would think this. You are entitled to your opinion and all but please don't speak for others as if you own them and no what they are thinking it just makes you sound like a jackass. (Sparda3092 22:55, 1 March 2012 (UTC))

Endeman rare drops[]

Do enderman drop rare drops? I heard they drop diamonds...--Gil2455526 22:36, 12 February 2012 (UTC)

As far as I know the only time Endermen have dropped diamonds was in a development build of Beta 1.8. I don't believe Endermen were given rare drops. Kasijjuf 22:53, 12 February 2012 (UTC)

Ok i tested for myself, almost all mobs dropped as say the wiki, except two things: Zombie pigman didn't dropped gold ingot (only tested once, dropped the rest of the itens) and the most interesting: I tested enderman 2 or 3 times, and they didn't dropped ANY diamonds... not even one, but the other mobs, dropped around 9 of their itens in 2 or 3 turns... Oh and they didn't dropped anything when killed by potions.... --Gil2455526 21:47, 14 February 2012 (UTC)

Could you do another test on the pigmen and remove the gold ingot from the article if it matches your findings? --Moxxy 21:49, 14 February 2012 (UTC)
Gotta just kill forty Zombie Pigmen, not just one. -- SrDonaldo 23:23, 14 February 2012 (UTC)
on 250 pigzombies i got 7 normal gold swords, 3 enchanted gold swords, 4 gold helmets, 6 gold ingots, 115 gold nuggets, 116 rotten flesh. PS the 6th kill was an ingot :P but it also seems that these rar drops drop only if the player killed the mob. i killed now around 1000 enderman and still no rar drop. --MG127 09:36, 15 February 2012 (UTC)

Some nights "worse than others"?[]

I was just wondering if anyone had any insight into what is meant by "Some nights will be worse than others" for NPC villages. Of course there might be more zombies one night than other nights, but I don't think that's what it means.

Maybe an Enderdragon will swoop down and kill villagers like in Skyrim :P -Steam_Punker

I'm curious to know what this means, as well. Maybe it means more villager mating? >.> and "worse" is just a euphemism? GenericCola 08:52, 20 February 2012 (UTC)

12w07b Weather Bugs[]

I loaded one of my old saves into 12w07b and started playing in an area which had been a taiga in 1.1. At first I noticed nothing wrong, but when the weather kicked in, things got funky. Instead of snowing, it began raining (in the taiga), /however/ snow still generated on the ground as if the weather was functioning properly. GenericCola 08:41, 20 February 2012 (UTC)

Edit: I just checked to see if the rain sound effects played too, and they do not, leading me to believe the error is one related to the rendering of the weather, rather than the biome's ability to verify it. Can anybody confirm whether or not this occurs in newly generated maps, as well? GenericCola 08:49, 20 February 2012 (UTC)

I am having a similar problem, just upgraded from 1.1 to 12w07b, and it started raining and snowing (which makes sense, I'm in a grassland next to snowy mountains) then when to the desert near by, stopped raining, still snowing though (bug?) 217.164.86.20 06:50, 22 February 2012 (UTC)

Could you clarify what you mean by this? Is snowfall (as in the particle effect) rendering, or just the snow which accumulates on the ground? Furthermore, what do you mean by it was "snowing & raining?" What about "still snowing when you went to the desert?" -- GenericCola 04:49, 22 February 2012 (UTC)

12w07b Egg Texture Bug[]

Monster Spawn Eggs not working properly in 12w08a[]

Hi. I noticed that spawn eggs for Zombies, spiders, silberfish, zombie pigman and others dont seem to work properly with the latest release (12w08a). When I use it I can hear the monster sound but no monster appears.

1.2pre (Feb. 29.) old bugs vs fixed[]

one of the most important things isn't still fixed, the tree spawning. tundras have still no trees, swamps too few and birches are very rar. most lightning bugs have been fixed, only the shadow in ponds while genating terrain is sill there. --MG127 20:27, 29 February 2012 (UTC)

1.2 preview is not a development version[]

Exactly what it says on the tin. There is no separate "1.2 preview" version. It's simply 1.2, made available one day before the automatic update.

Should this really be counted as a pre-release?[]

The way jeb stated it sounds like he's just giving us a link to the full release, before it is added to the launcher for automatic updating. This version would be identical to the full release, and therefore isn't a development version, nor should it be called 1.2 Preview (it isn't actually called that in the game anyway). –User:Ultradude25 (User:Ultradude25/t|User:Ultradude25/c) at 08:10, 1 March 2012 (UTC)

My guess is that it's nearly final 1.2, but they wanted to check for any critical bugs before pushing it out as an automatic update. Consider the world-breaking bug that Dinnerbone marked as fixed. -- Orthotope 08:38, 1 March 2012 (UTC)

Missing feature in 12w15a's changelog[]

I've noticed that when walking to the edge of a block while sneaking and then stop sneaking no longer makes you fall.

12w15a Discovories[]

There is a been lot of mystery surrounding 12w15a, because of the censored changelog. If anyone has any discoveries, please post them here. Virisenox 00:14, 16 April 2012 (UTC)

there appears to be a sticky piston bug in which the piston will "flicker" as the piston retracts, causing the block to be left extended while the piston is retracted. this occured when i was trying to make a three-going to six high sticky piston extender elevator that is 2x2. the middle pistons seem to have an odd buggy tendancy to do this and i was wondering if anyone had seen anything

i am almost certain that i am not generating a one-shot pulsar with my redstone so it would be apreciated if someone could help -anon

i think the changelog is just a late april fools joke, we got all excited but there were just some inventory additions, but, does anyone think we need to kinda like "scan" the code and compare it to the version before this to be sure? - lordcat33 15:09 18 April 2012 (CET+1)

Not a bug?[]

Wasn't downwards flowing water destroying blocks like torches and rails an intended change added quite a long time ago, and therefore be removed? --204.14.13.53 16:16, 30 April 2012 (UTC)

1. I've never heard of it it described as an intended feature. Can you provide a citation? 2. Why should downward-flowing water behave differently from horizontally-flowing water (which does drop items)? —kpreid 18:27, 30 April 2012 (UTC)

I just tested it in 1.2.5, downwards flowing water destroys items without drops in that version as well. i can post a video if necessary. so technically, shouldn't it be removed? --204.14.13.53 13:02, 3 May 2012 (UTC)

12w18a RUINS single player[]

Okay so if you ask me 12w18a ruins single player in fact, 1.3 will ruin single player... Here's why:

- Singleplayer is now multiplayer, which I guess is okay, but I will get into more detail later

- What's the point of cheat mode if single player is a server now, just use the give command

- Multiplayer vanilla sucks, which is why single player will suck and these are the details why

- This will cause normal server issues such as major lag during large TNT that some computers could handle in normal singleplayer. even if you get optifine your singleplayer will still have lag. (this is because optifine increases client FPS, not server speed.)

- This makes singleplayer stupid now considering every time I play alone I have to turn on white-list, that's retarded.

- there are many bugs in multiplayer that aren't in single player such as:

- Enderman's mouth - Basically all mob animations - Certain sounds don't play - Block lag if server can't keep up - Mobs glitching, sometimes on mutliplayer servers mob will appear to teleport up and down the ceiling

- banning yourself from singleplayer will result in you not allowing you to join, and noobs might not now how to fix this

- you have change the server to offline mode to play offline, like I said before, noobs don't know how to do this

- no singleplayer mods now considering that singleplayer is a server

- other reasons why I will hate Minecraft - connection refused: Connect

- other many errors like the one that says session.minecraft which makes you restart your client to play again ( You'll have to do this for singleplayer? GAY)

- failed to login: Bad login -.- ( Client restart AGAIN)

- Here's what should be done to stop this:

- Make another option when creating a world such as local host: on/off (Like how you can turn cheats on or off under more options)

- Turning this on will run singleplayer as the new client mode you have made.

All in all, please do NOT do this to Minecraft, I think this is a horrible idea, and I'm sure others do too.

Archesporeus 14:41, 4 May 2012 (UTC)Archesporeus

I agree, minecraft is starting from being best to worse and if Notch (or Jeb) doesn't do anything minecraft will be in danger of being public domain too soon I mean now im stuck on 12w17a because of the server crap.

142.167.226.179 15:25, 5 May 2012 (UTC)

So basically your main problem is that smp is buggy (in a multitude of ways), and now ssp will be buggy? If you look at what they are spending most of their time doing as far as 1.3 stuff, you'll notice that aside from plugin api stuff, it's primarily stuff to make single player and multiplayer act the same (Which really is what a "noob" would expect), and that a lot of what they are doing to make them the same is to remove the smp only bugs that you seem so concerned about, as well as client-server communication issues and lag.
I really don't understand the problem with there not being mods that are strictly single player, there will be mods with the same functionality, it will just be easier to make said mods work in multiplayer as well.
Cheat mode is what allows things like the give command.... so allowing you to use /give IS the point in cheat mode.
I would imagine that they will try to make things like others connecting and not banning yourself easy to control, if not merging single and multi really isn't the problem.
As far as the public domain issue, could you clarify what you mean? I really don't understand why anything they have or haven't done is putting them at risk for that
Finally please try not to get too upset about problems with buggy weeklys, the entire point is that they can't guarantee that they aren't full of bugs and partial features, they release them that way so people can help test and find them more quickly. Cultist O 04:04, 7 May 2012 (UTC)
The new architecture has some advantages. All single-player mods will automatically be multi-player mods, so mod authors won't have to make two versions; as it is, many don't make a server version at all. By pushing most of the processing onto the server, griefing clients will be much harder to create, and more limited in what they can do.
Bugs are to be expected with such a major change; that's why it's introduced in a dev snapshot, not a release version. -- Orthotope 09:41, 7 May 2012 (UTC)
While, yes, I agree that mods will be easier to make, my minecraft 12w19a snapshot keeps crashing when "joining" a new world. It just shouldn't happen. -- Mordakai95 11:16, 13/05/2012
Wouldn't you have to forward ports for people to access your Minecraft SSP server anyway? Plus what are they odds they'd join your server anyway? 81.141.22.189
My main problem is that I don't like having unwanted people to come to my world and destroy my creations forcing me to rebuild which is a pain so I think Mojang should add a button so that you can play your world without the threat of griefers.

142.167.235.24 00:42, 16 May 2012 (UTC)

New Server Features[]

I've been testing the new server features, not sure when they were added but I am using snapshot 12w21b. If you set a server to hardcore, you do get banned by username on death but the death screen on the client's end has a button that says deathScreen.leaveServer, rather than the intended text. After that, you get disconnected from the server with a funny massage saying "You have died. Game over, man, it's game over!". Also, the server ban files have been redesigned to use a format with ban durations and ban reasons. I don't know which snapshots these all came from or how to include them in the release notes. Big Small Slimes[]

Sometimes slimes "confused". When I hit the big slimes, it may be, either get hit or die, and no spawn other slimes. The same may be middle slimes, and sometimes they spawn at death (if normal) middle slimes again, which can't withstand any attack and die, like a little slimes. However, the middle can also spawn after the death a large slime. Little sometimes have 4 health and spawn at the death a huge (!) slime. What is the problem? When in the 'Decoration' tab of the creative inventory, the redstone torch appears as it should. However, in the 'Redstone' tab it appears in the 'Off' state, and remains so if placed. Have not tried with a ¬ gate yet. condorcraft110 15:03, 26 May 2012 (UTC)

12w21b - Bug Reports[]

Version 12w21b Bug : Pressing Esc button does not pause the game. 70.80.165.149 21:37, 26 May 2012 (UTC)

So sloo-oo-oooow... In 12w18a this bug meets too. 94.251.34.131 15:22, 27 May 2012 (UTC)
This isn't a bug: the game now behaves like a server game even when playing in singleplayer mode.Anuros 21:49, 27 May 2012 (UTC)
Update: EvilSeph recently officially upgraded the game's lack of a pause facility in single player to 'Major bug'. It's one of those cases where Mojang knew switching to server mode was going to break a few things, pause being one of them. Now we know they definitely want to fix it. --82.69.54.207 00:16, 28 May 2012 (UTC)

If you do shift+click(left) in creative, survival inventory, the Items you placed won't show directly, you need to click an other tab first, before you see your stuff again in survival inventory --Karstvgl 12:10, 30 May 2012 (UTC)

Ocean Biomes[]

most players avoid ocean biomes already, but a large biomes world type would certainly exacerbate the problem. i had boated for nearly 10km straight in one direction, nearly 10,000 blocks for what felt like 15 minutes and found virtually no land on a normal world. ocean biomes really need to be downsized, especially on xbox 360 where you can only have a 1km/1km world currently. ocean biomes are definitely not enjoyable at this size.

i think that before adding the large biomes, mojang will enlarge the world size and add all the current features, and this requires a looooot of time...anyway take the "nearly real size ocean" like a challenge or delete the world, until this "problem" (because this isn't a bug) remains these are the only solutions Anuros 16:43, 28 May 2012 (UTC)

This isn't really a problem for me. I like the large real-world oceans. It gives a better sense of exploring and discovery. Perhaps if they added an option slider for land-to-water ratios. All the way to one side would make an archipelago world, and all the way to the other side would make a solid land mass with a few small ponds and lakes here and there. Personally, I think every new feature added should come with a slider that lets each player control how much of it is implemented for their particular tastes. For example, some people want Testificate villages to be a rare and interesting find. Some people want them every five chunks. A slider would please everybody.

Idea for Creative Menu[]

If you are in Creative, you can switch to your Survival inventory, but there isn't a small crafting(table), 2x2 Maybe you need to add that --Karstvgl 12:05, 30 May 2012 (UTC)

12w21a Enchanting[]

Its terrible. Even though you get more enchants on items then you used to at level 30 you cant get high level enchants like efficiency 5 or fortune 3. I think that either the old maximum of 50 should be restored or the levels neccasary to get enchants should be lowered. I think lowering the max with the excuse "It makes it easier to reach the maximum" was realy sillybecause the maximum isn't as good. If you actualy wanted to remove these enchants beecause you thought they were unfair then think abouthow hard they are to get and you'll see that theyy are fair. Honestly i don't care which you do revert the maximum level to 50 or adjust the enchantments so that you can still get the high level enchanments at level 30 exactly how you once could at level 50 as long as you do one so that the enchanting system can be restored.

The dicussion page is not for complaints about the game, and in my view it is good, for example on servers. Also, the top enchantments were unbalnanced and easy to get once you got a mob grinder or some other various things started, so it levels the newbie-elite playing field.

Ok first of all the old enchant system was balanced, an xp grinders are either really difficult to build and expensive or it takes forever to get to a high level, so that was balanced. Second of all the field of newbs vs the elite will never be anywhere near even because new people to a server don't have anything good anyway and new people to the game suck at everything and tend to play on computers so slow that they will be dead in one frame. Third if you want to level things out, make it harder to hack servers so people don't spawn in super items, because you want to know what's more annoying then being killed by someone using a perfect diamond sword? Being killed by someone who was using a hacked in super sword. And last it doesn't say I can't complain on the discussion page.

What are you talking about? the enchantment system was re-balance so you CAN get fortune 3 and efficiency 5 from just level 30. the only things that were nerfed are swords and bows from the testing I've done. you can still get amazing picks, shovels, and axes like with level 50, and in fact you get good ones more often. --204.14.13.53 16:16, 1 June 2012 (UTC)

"almost all items get at least 2 enchantments" - false information, delete please. I had about 40% of tools with one enchantment while testing.

References are broken[]

See bottom of the article.

Confetti Charge[]

With the addition of trip wires I thought that a nice use for paper and dyes (maybe some gunpowder as well) would be to craft Confetti charges. These could be added to dispensers as an alternative to the destructive fire charge, arrows, lava that add perilous consequences to tripping a wire. This would allow surprises that do not hurt but celebrate. Can be used for surprise parties, birthdays, or any occasion to celebrate.

Idea: Exact enchantment levels[]

Random idea: Sticky pistons could be used to make a system where you can choose the level of enchantment by moving bookshelves in and out of range of the enchantment table.

Furnace Bugs / Not Yet Implemented[]

- Emerald ore cannot be smelted (unlike all other ores)

- Breaking a furnace does not yeild any experience for the smelted items within

12w22a critical bug[]

World sometimes doesn't update, it needs reload but the blocks placed after this disappear and broken blocks appear again. -Ray1235

Also critical bug is endless cutscene after defeating Ender Dragon, I can't do anythicn casue game saved at the begining of cutscene. Only MCEdit helps, but after entering Ender portal, endless cutscene starts again.

Bad edit[]

Pressing Nice video. I agree with you. HostGator is the best web host in the industry. I do sgugest though starting with the Baby plan versus the Hatchling because if you are paying monthly, it is only $1 more per month. But, if you have already signed up with the Hatchling, just fill out the upgrade form on their website and they'll upgrade you in minutes with no upgrade fee. will reload the chunks.

It used to be

'Pressing F [cut out spam] will reload the chunks'

It's been the spam for awhile it seems looking through the history, so a simple rollback won't help.

Hope someone clears it up soon. :)

Vandalism[]

Page massively vandalized. I'm not sure how to fix it though, can someone do it please? 75.84.101.120 03:27, 3 June 2012 (UTC)

duplication bug in minecraft 12w22a snapshot. I found a duplication bug. When you place wooden stairs on top of a redstone torch the torch pops out as an item like when you drop something. But if you remove the stairs the redstone torch is like when you placed it.

12w23a is Out[]

Can someone add info on it here?

  • I don't think that there was ever a bug with closing the inv.
  • I've been able to use folder-based texture packs on Mac OS X in 1.2.5 Jrtc27 17:23, 7 June 2012 (UTC) jrtc27

--

  • I'm not sure about that one
  • Folder-based texture packs used to work, but pack.png and pack.txt would never change. (Image)[6]

Also, the texture pack wouldn't work unless it had a pack.png and pack.txt in it (ironiclly) but with .zips I don't think you need them.

What does "slabs now placeable on walls" mean? I thought it meant vertical slabs, but I can't achieve this effect. I believe right-clicking on the top half of a block to place it upside down was the last snapshot.
I agree with that, Slab as always been placeable by right-clicking on wall, so please explain more, because it make no sense for now. Drakray 01:44, 8 June 2012 (UTC)
Should a note about being able to reload chunks with F3 + A be placed in the notes, many people using the pre-release seem annoyed at F not reloading chunks any more, and I doubt they'll look up [7] (this tweet also as proof that this bind still exists: [8]) where it tells them this feature stll exists. Add a Snapshot auto-installer[]

The Mojang team should add a snapshot auto-installer to the game. Right beside the "force update" button, there should be a button to download and install the latest snapshot. And of course to uninstall it when you're done, you'd just force update again. It's not terribly hard to install as it is, but having it all automatic on one click would be awesome.

There is a flaw with this. People that use mods would have to reinstall their mob each time because force update would give you a new jar. Throex TALK|CONT 21:21, 7 June 2012 (UTC)
The issue is that snapshots are intended for advanced players who know what they are doing and know how buggy they are. Doing this would make them almost official, which is a bad idea because they can cause a lot if issues. Only advanced players know what to do with the .jar - that's their idea behind things.

Side of cow's head flashes completely white when hitting them in 12w23b[]

Can someone else confirm this? It looks weird.--Nebetsu 21:50, 7 June 2012 (UTC)

12w23b bug with potions and monsters[]

hello, I've found a bug:

bug:

when I throw some couple of potions (weakness, slowness) in creative mode on any mob (tried on sheeps, skeleton, zombie, spider), then I can't hit them without any tool ([sword, pick,...] - yes;[hand+other things] - no), it's like hitting air

before throwing a potion on them, it's just normal
