Moving the page[edit]

Discussing whether or not this should be moved from "Java Edition 1.14-pre1" to "Java Edition 1.14 Pre-Release 1", which is the in-game name for the version (unlike previous pre-releases).

Oppose No other pre-release pages are named as the proposal suggests. -PancakeIdentity (talk) 23:49, 10 April 2019 (UTC)
The others all follow their in-game names, this one currently doesn’t. Though I also  Oppose because of the inconsistency it’d cause. There’s already redirects for it, so it’s fine as it currently is IMO. FVbico (talk) 23:51, 10 April 2019 (UTC)
Actually, since beta 1.8 and beta 1.9 also use the full naming both in-game and on the wiki, it’s probably best to stick with the full name. FVbico (talk) 16:24, 11 April 2019 (UTC)
I think this needs to be a bigger discussion somewhere about whether or not we rename everything. I'd say no myself, as it's too much hassle for such a small difference. -PancakeIdentity (talk) 23:58, 10 April 2019 (UTC)
Weak support They've started doing different version IDs (the ID for this version is literally 1.14 Pre-Release 1 including the spaces, while before IDs were 1.13-pre10 and similar (this can be seen in the version manifest). This has already caused a bit of a kerfluffle here and elsewhere (since a lot of things don't like spaces). But Mojang does seem to be doing a new pattern. I don't have a strong opinion on whether we need to follow it, though. (Do note that if it is moved, the protocol version data will need to be updated to use the new name.) --Pokechu22 (talk) 23:54, 10 April 2019 (UTC)
Oppose per FVbico and PancakeIdentity. -BDJP (t|c) 00:01, 11 April 2019 (UTC)
Support, because why should we persist calling it -pre1 when (correct me if i'm wrong) it's not actually called that anywhere? We have a convention of calling things by their names, I thought. – Sealbudsman talk | contribs 00:12, 11 April 2019 (UTC)
Weak oppose. While it's good to have the official name as the page name, it's both longer and inconsistent with the other pages on this wiki. Just set the infobox to have Pre-release and move on. – Nixinova Nixinova sig1.png Nixinova sig2.png 03:21, 11 April 2019 (UTC)
Weak oppose. Hmmmm 1.9 pre-releases are called 1.9 Pre-Release 1 ingame but editors put as 1.9-pre1 article see Java Edition 1.9-pre1 -Ellaflowercutie (talk) 05:56, 11 April 2019 (UTC)
1.9 pre-releases are all named "1.9-pre#". Maybe you're thinking about Beta? – Nixinova Nixinova sig1.png Nixinova sig2.png 06:05, 11 April 2019 (UTC)
Support per the argument of Sealbudsman. "pre1" can stay as a redirect and old names should not be changed. Robotkoer (talk) 07:11, 11 April 2019 (UTC)
Strong support - are there any other cases where the in-game name of a pre-release doesnt match? - User-12316399 (talk) 15:16, 11 April 2019 (UTC)
Support citing;) with its literal smiley face included - tryashtar (talk) 16:24, 11 April 2019 (UTC)
Weak oppose Not necessary when there is no potential page conflict. liach (talk) 16:29, 11 April 2019 (UTC)
Strong support AFAIK, every other version number on the wiki matches its in-game title, even the one with the wink emoticon in it. CyanRyan1 (talk) 18:42, 11 April 2019 (UTC)
Comment I'd rather have everything be consistent, and as such the beta pre-releases should be also moved to -pre#. Pocket Edition versions put the Alpha before the version number even though in-game it's vice versa, because having a consistent name format is better than having the exact name. Also,  Wait until 1.14 is actually out: they may revert back to -pre# or something. Mojang has not been consistent in anything recently. – Nixinova Nixinova sig1.png Nixinova sig2.png 20:20, 11 April 2019 (UTC)
Consistency in naming articles after in-game names is also consistency, even if the names themselves aren't consistent. --AttemptToCallNil (report bug, view backtrace) 20:33, 11 April 2019 (UTC)
Strong oppose If we're gonna rename this page, we have to rename all the pages. Besides the names of these articles match how Minecraft displays them. SansUT (talk) 22:57, 11 April 2019 (UTC)
"Besides the names of these articles match how Minecraft displays them." Maybe you should re-read the move reason. Also, the beta 1.8 and beta 1.9 prereleases have this naming too, in game and the article. FVbico (talk) 23:00, 11 April 2019 (UTC)
