Can Jean the Enderdragon destroy these? 15:02, 24 May 2012 (UTC)

No, only Billiam the Enderdragon can. It's his secret move. 16:01, 24 May 2012 (UTC)
Ha ha ha. Notch has named the Enderdragon Jean, and I was asking if the game's only boss mob can break these. No need for sarcasm. 16:59, 24 May 2012 (UTC)
EDIT: CONFIRMED. Jean can, oddly, destroy these. 17:57, 24 May 2012 (UTC)

Does anyone know how these chests react in smp? do they have different contents for each player, like the piggy bank in terraria, or do they have different slots for each player? -- 16:09, 24 May 2012 (UTC)

Every Ender Chest has the same contents for everyone. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 16:18, 24 May 2012 (UTC)
yeah just saw that on the page right after i posted that... too bad it makes the chest almost useless in multiplayer -- 19:19, 24 May 2012 (UTC)
Awesome, now two players can trade with each other when they're far away. Great feature. 12:45, 25 May 2012 (UTC)
Now ender chest has only the contents per player in multiplayer. New way to have exclusive protected items just for you! This was added in a later snapshot. 23:01, 5 July 2012 ----
There are benefits (trade, contact), and drawbacks (griefing, stealing): see below "blessing in disguise"-type scenario (oh, and it doesn't have to be Game Chat, people use, to communicate); until the chests are trolled. Yilante, 22:38, 8 June 2012 (UTC)

Should it be noted that the Ender Chest was suggested by the user soapawake on reddit? [1] –Preceding unsigned comment was added by Alexjuuhh (Talk|Contribs) 18:06, 24 May 2012. Please sign your posts with ~~~~

About the mod.[edit]

Where does Jeb mention that he got the idea from a mod? Because I think this is just another act in the play "omg mojang steals all mods and never credits anyone!!11!11oneeleven". They don't. It's just that there are three billion mods out there, and if Jeb implemented crafting grass blocks with dirt and seeds for example, 300 people would say "omg but i made this mod u stole my idea!!". Do you see how stupid this is? -- 20:57, 24 May 2012 (UTC)

Edit: This is all I could find. You can mention this. jeb_/status/205307552941088768 -- 21:00, 24 May 2012 (UTC)
These guys don`t get credit for maing it becaue the public suggests it. The SUGGESTER gets credit. Not the mod maker. 11:12, 5 July 2012 ----

Portable Storage[edit]

I can see it now; no longer will peoples inventories be filled with junk, they will just have a Ender chest on them, and place there goodies in them, and recollect it and take it back out in their base. Portable inventory!!!

ZeCraftyMiner 01:21, 25 May 2012 (UTC)

  • Or, just as likely, they'll put their ender chests in prominent places and use more than one. No need to keep collecting the one over and over, especially now that Silk Touch is required. --King Starscream 22:25, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
Portable storage with 1 less free slot. slot with silk touch pick. the rest is for your adventure. voila. It is like making lemonade while buying lemonade: 2x the amount at a price!

double Enderchests?[edit]

If there are double chests... Then wouldn't there be double enderchests?

pogoman122 12:39, 25 May 2012 (CTZ)

It's like that on purpose to balance the chests. Also how would it even work? If you place a single chest while also having a double chest, you won't be able to access half of the chest. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 18:11, 25 May 2012 (UTC)
thankyou pogoman, i just spent ages trying to explain this to a friend in minecraft. also, the page says the chests can be places adjacent to one another, but what would be the point? all enderchests will have the exact same inventory
one way it could work is if you had a full double enderchest, you could recheave your stuff from a single chest, but wouldn't put anything in unless the balance excess was eliminated, but that would be complicated. or, of course, they could just make enderchests bigger, which would be cool 08:35, 2 October 2012 (UTC) fluttershy

I know they need it Zigzagar 15:26, 12 October 2012 (UTC)

Intentionally Beneficial Drawback?[edit]

Maybe the reason the Chests are not player specific is to allow trade of the newly introduced emeralds. This could allow trading within online communities, and possibly even economies to come into being on large servers. –Preceding unsigned comment was added by Kajoman (Talk|Contribs) 03:10, 29 May 2012. Yeah, and I'm gonna go look-up at the Multiplayer section of this "Talk," see what they think. One thing I can say here: Trading ideally is between a set-number of traders, at a time, whether it's 1-on-1 (most player trade, all NPC trade Unless multiple people can trade with the same NPC, and even the same things, at the same time..?), or multiple-on-1 (a "market" for a certain "stock," and /or "supply," of something). IF people are "honest," then Yes you are right a group of online friends can in-theory then trade Anything MC via an Ender Chest system. But in any case, Chat Will help-clarify the issue: of whether the "storage" is in fact for "Trading." Yilante, June 8th, 2012 22:35, 8 June 2012 (UTC)
The Ender Chest is now per player items. That makes a transportable stock market that only you can access. 11:21, 5 July 2012 ----

storage file[edit]

anybody knows in which file the content is stored? –Preceding unsigned comment was added by (Talk) 03:15, 29 May 2012. Please sign your posts with ~~~~

ok, found it by myself, its in the level.dat so there should be one enderchest for every world, if you use multiworld in smp. –Preceding unsigned comment was added by (Talk) 03:20, 29 May 2012. Please sign your posts with ~~~~

"By default, each server has one persistent Ender Chest inventory. This means that the player can not create or find an Ender Chest utilizing a different inventory of items than another."

Can anyone explain that last sentence to me? It appears a bit pronoun-vague... Dangercrow 17:10, 1 June 2012 (UTC)

There is only one Ender Chest inventory for the entire server. There is no vanilla way to crease a second Ender Chest inventory. Hope that clears it up :D LightRod 5 June 2012 (UTC)
Try "a given," instead of "the" player, works for me (and see Theology XD ). Yilante, 22:41, 8 June 2012 (UTC)
Wrong! It is each inventory now per player.
That's the point. Is there a way to revert back to sharing the chest for the whole world/ realm??

--Clonemonkey (talk) 08:10, 12 August 2019 (UTC)

It would seem that in SMP, Obsidian can't be transferred via Ender Chests. thought I'd note it. -- 07:50, 4 June 2012 (UTC)

Creation of?[edit]

So I can't seem to craft the ender it SMP only? I followed the recipe given and it's not crafting it for me...anyone have a reason as to why, or possible help with this?–Preceding unsigned comment was added by JustAnotherPsyco (Talk|Contribs) 23:25, 13 June 2012. Please sign your posts with ~~~~

Are you using Snapshot 12w21a or later?frogjg2003 03:48, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
I downloaded the game maybe, three weeks ago, at most. So i should be using w/e is the latest. JustAnotherPsyco –The preceding undated comment was added on 04:10, 14 June 2012. Please sign your posts with ~~~~
If you haven't installed a snapshot, you're probably using the last official release (1.2.5). Ender chests will be in the 1.3 release, but are currently only in development snapshots. -- Orthotope 07:01, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

Alright....well, i don't really know anything about these "Snapshots". Could you enlighten me and how/where I'd download them? I'd really like my ender chest... –Preceding unsigned comment was added by JustAnotherPsyco (Talk|Contribs) 07:13, 14 June 2012. Please sign your posts with ~~~~

The installation process is not very well documented here on the wiki. See this post on the Mojang blog for a reasonably good explanation. -- Orthotope 07:58, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

It seems it SMP only now. -- 10:52, 17 January 2013 (UTC)

Minecraft Snapshot Week 24[edit]

What are everyone's opinions on the enderchests drawback? I myself would prefer something else, as eyes of ender are a bit tricky to gather. I can understand it for SMP, but in SSP, i don't see much point in it. A better drawback would be, to collect it, it requires a diamond pick, and takes as long to mine as obsidian. ZeCraftyMiner 15:31, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

I think the previous drawback was better, where a server had 1 inventory for everyone. Ender Eyes are too difficult to find. They've basically invented a new way of storage for the game and now they've ruined it 18:18, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

  • Eyes of Ender are replaceable. That level 30 triple enchanted diamond sword I had to put in the chest so I could jump off the side of The End to escape is not. I'd rather have there be a cost for moving the chest (only without Silk Touch, which seriously isn't hard to get) than have other players take items I worked hard to craft. --King Starscream 22:13, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
Eyes of Ender ARE a renewable resource, but, I myself do not enjoy trips to the Nether and The End constantly for Blaze Rods and Ender Pearls. Having the Ender Chest drop as an item instead of 8 Obsidian does not stop you from saving valuables, and I would rather not carry a silk touch pick everywhere I go. ZeCraftyMiner 23:33, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
Keep the silk touch pick in the Ender chest.... Or pearls and obsidian to make a new chest. I suspect the drawback is simply to keep the chests from being too portable. --Mental Mouse 16:17, 12 October 2012 (UTC)

Ender chests as diaries[edit]

On multiplayer, ender chests are per person inventoy. mix that with written books and books with quills and you can make a diary.

What is it[edit]

Whatever you want it tt to be. like a calender or log.

Why use it[edit]

Only you can access it.

Minecart with ender chest[edit]

Will thre be one?

Chest. Then Ender chest. Nether chest?[edit]

The chest is an overworld chest. The ender chest is an ender chest. What's next? The nether chest as a nether chest? What will make it different from the others? Plase respond. - TexasMike10

It stores the data of who opened the chest, and if the opener isn't the saved name or player, it spawns a ghast. :P Funky3000 12:56, 7 July 2012 (UTC)
With the Ender chest now personal to each player, a Nether chest of some sort could fill the void of being common to all players and all locations. ---Jovet 10:24, 2 August 2012 (UTC)
It Destroys what is put into it, like throwing items in lave/fire? --superfly1031
He meant a mixture of a normal chest and an ender chest. The contents of a supposed nether chest would be accessible anywhere, but by anyone, like a normal chest. While that is a neat idea, it's just a single chest shared by the entire server. Normal chests are a dime a dozen and ender chests are per player, so server size means nothing, but this "nether chest" idea will get progressively bad the larger a server's playerbase is, and altering this in any way would just make a weird spin-off of an ender chest. --Kanegasi C 03:41, 18 January 2013 (UTC)
It might do wool codes. 01:45, 25 January 2013 (UTC)
In single-player, this would be functionally equivalent to a second type of ender chest with a separate inventory. --Mental Mouse 03:56, 25 January 2013 (UTC)
Cake Chest. Pretty please.-- 11:51, 25 January 2013 (UTC)

multi-person chests.[edit]

It would be awesome it they made two chests, one that's player specific and one that's shared between all players, Have the default one created by recipe be the player-specific one, and then make another recipe which would take the player-specific chest and turn it into a shared chest (and make the recipe reversible). One anoying thing you run into on vanilla servers is when someone wants to borrow a lot of some simple resource like cobble or sand for building, it can take a long ass time to transport several inventories worth of an item to where you need it. 16:03, 1 August 2012 (UTC)

The problem would be that any player with such a chest could rob it.... What you really want is player-specific sharing. But, implementation aside, that sort of long-distance "shipping" would be a major balance change. Right now, doing it with minecarts needs not only tracks, but player presence to load the travel chunks. --Mental Mouse 13:06, 2 October 2012 (UTC)

I think that the Enderchest can cause a HUGE problem for multiplayer servers...

Actually, a network of Ender chests is different for each player. Because of this, hoppers and droppers cannot interact with Ender chests. Also, please sign your posts with ~~~~ 23:48, 24 February 2015 (UTC)

Another possible usage[edit]

Another usage that is not mentioned in the article (and maybe should be): in railway systems. Place an Ender Chest on every station and put a single minecart in it. Then you come to any station, pull the minecart out, travel to another place, put return it to the chest. You will never have a station without a minecart again.

If anyone thinks this is relevant, it should be added to the article. 09:08, 24 August 2012 (UTC)

The Endernet[edit]

Ive heard the storage space that the items are kept in known colloquially as the 'Endernet' This could be a possible way to refer to where the items are when there are no chests placed down - Benjabby 14:26, 3 March 2013 (UTC)

You know, I was wondering if placing an Ender chest after all the Ender chests in he world, then placing one and opening it could result in finding items inside. I play pocket edition, so I can't test this myself. 23:42, 24 February 2015 (UTC)

I believe there is a video about ender chests, how come it isn't on the page? -- Numbermaniac 12:04, 16 March 2013 (UTC)

Map Creation[edit]

We've heard about ender chests for SMP but what about downloadable maps. If I put my map up for download will the next player to use it get what I left in the ender chest? Are those Items now shared if the world is opened to LAN?--JMSterling (talk) 01:31, 25 February 2014 (UTC)

Ender chests always show an inventory unique to the current player, no matter how they got there. For SSP maps, that is the same as the player who downloaded it I believe, but for multiplayer maps it won't be shared. --GufNZ (c: (talk) 02:41, 25 February 2014 (UTC)

Trivial Trivia Edit[edit]

I'm sorry but the first Trivia section bullet was atrocious so I cleaned it up. Look at it's history and try to tell me my edit doesn't look cleaner :3

BlockTileEntity drops[edit]

[[Template:BlockTileEntity]] doesn't have a "drops" field but this page have one, should drops be added to [[Template:BlockTileEntity]] ? --Rom1504 (talk) 09:51, 3 May 2015 (UTC)

Surely if you have a private realm with invited people the owner could set a control that allows "Share contents" for Ender Chests....--Clonemonkey (talk) 15:02, 17 June 2019 (UTC)
