Untitled - October 1 2011[edit]

I knew that the enchantment table also has an block required to craft found in the aether(sky dimension) and in the mods I saw that it would be used to repair tools. what exactly will be the use of the enchantment table? –Preceding unsigned comment was added by (Talk|Contribs) . This enchantment table has nothing to do with any enchantment table blocks added by any mods, including the Aether. The enchantment table will be used for enchanting and magic, if the article is correct/Notch and Jeb don't change the system drastically. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 05:45, 1 October 2011 (UTC)

Use the "Search" function[edit]

Original Enchantment table page Please use the search function at the top of the page before creating pages to ensure that the page hasn't already been made. Because of this mistake, a merge action has to be taken, instead of a move that was originally planned. This takes longer, and deletes the history of the original page. --HexZyle 07:16, 1 October 2011 (UTC)

History merges should not be used in cases such as this, and if you want to keep people from creating such duplicate articles, you should create redirects from obvious titles when the article is created. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 17:14, 1 October 2011 (UTC)

Enchantment system origins?[edit]

Not saying that Notch got it from here, but the Enchantment system he's planning works pretty much exactly like the enchantment system in FATE and Torchlight. (Random enchantments) The Shrine of Learning randomly changes one of your stats, and the Anvil of Enchantment gives a random enchantment (or even curse) to a selected piece of your equipment. Not to mention the base of the Enchantment table looks like the Anvil and the Book is resting on it like the Shrine of Learning. (minor similarities, but it's interesting how they all match up) Fate Screenshots --HexZyle 09:55, 1 October 2011 (UTC)

SGA Alphabet[edit]

Use of the SGA Alphabet could explain why Steve is the only Human character from the game's perspective. So the Testificates might be intelligent natives of that world, and the Pigmen might be mutants. --Ecksearoh 20:42, 1 October 2011 (UTC)

Actually, pigmen aren't the mutants. It's the Creepers, zombies, and skeletons. The Creepers end their lives by blowing up and sending small, needle like spores into a person's skin. Then the person mutates into a zombie. The the zombie decays into a skeleton, which lives its live out as a bag of bones. Giant Spiders are just Giant Spiders. Always have been, always will be. And that's why enemies hate you! | JSan 19:41, 6 October 2011 (UTC)

How can I craft it(in pre realese)?

You cant and this is a wiki not the place to ask questions like that

The Enchantment Table has not yet been released in either of the Pre-releases of 1.9. It will either be coming in the full version of 1.9 or 1.10. --HexZyle 14:12, 3 October 2011 (UTC)
So where is this crafting recipe from? Or are people just making it up? --Warlock 15:37, 4 October 2011 (UTC)
It's speculation and should be removed until we know for sure.--Saphireking65 15:45, 4 October 2011 (UTC)
Just for the record, for the second replyer to this topic, this is a talk page, and it is the place to ask questions like that. 04:39, 4 August 2012 (UTC)

There's a bit of specualtion in the opening paragraph "may be used..." etc. Please keep this stuff on a facts-only basis. Thank you. 17:16, 3 October 2011 (UTC)

Books love each other[edit]

i have discovered that surrounding the table with bookshelf makes letters fly from the shelf themself!

maybe this gives it more power? i have no idea what it does

...Issues with signature button im having... so im going to manually type the code PhillipF 17:41, 6 October 2011 (UTC)

It does nothing, it's just for decoration. --Wizjany 02:42, 8 October 2011 (UTC)
Exactly. All particle effects do nothing in the game. This also applies to liquid drips, and lava embers. --HexZyle 04:36, 8 October 2011 (UTC)

I just tested it on 1.9.3 and this doesn't happen. 02:38, 8 October 2011 (UTC)

Actually, lava embers do have an effect. If they touch a flammable object, then that object is set on fire. Hlast 12:50, 10 October 2011 (UTC)

Lava's burning behaviour: Point 4: "Contrary to popular belief, the “embers” or “fireballs” which fly out of lava are purely decorative and do not directly cause fires". Fire is randomly placed at random times on flammable objects within a certain distance of lava. --HexZyle 14:12, 10 October 2011 (UTC)

Actually, according to Jeb, bookshelves will increase the potency of enchantments:!/jeb_/status/123663863018299393 Retep998 16:51, 11 October 2011 (UTC)

Some sort of passworded sentence?[edit]

Hey, Ive been messing about with the enchanter and it doesnt seem to do anything. Does anyone else suspect you need 3 specific words in a row as the enchantment to get a specific bonus on the item? Just a thought. -- 06:30, 8 October 2011 (UTC)

Just don't put spaces before what you want to say and you wont get that formatting problem. Oh, and you need skillpoints to enchant an item (and you can only enchant tools) --HexZyle 06:28, 8 October 2011 (UTC)
Uhh, I meant Ive been enchanting things, for example, I enchanted a shovel and it didnt get any more durability than a standard shovel. -- 06:32, 8 October 2011 (UTC)
Enchanting doesn't work on SMP, just incase you are trying it on there --HexZyle 06:37, 8 October 2011 (UTC)

Enchantable Items[edit]

Turns out shears can be enchanted too. I can't imagine them actually having any buffs, though. Anyone care to test? --Whybanme12345 02:01, 9 October 2011 (UTC)

it faild. i wonder what would you get if it worked... May,2012

Clicking the book?[edit]

Somebody wrote "[click the book in the gui to get new enchantments]" I'm trying that on 1.9pre3 and that's not true. I'm not sure whether to delete that sentence or not. Moomoohk 02:54, 9 October 2011 (UTC)

Words in alphabetical order[edit]

I have decided to sort the words here, but I am not sure whether or not to change this...

air animal ball beast berate bless cold creature cube curse darkness demon destroy dry earth elder elemental embiggen enchant fiddle fire free fresh galvanize grow hot humanoid ignite imbue inside klaatu light limited mental niktu of other physical range scrolls self shorten shrink snuff sphere spirit stale stretch the towards twist undead water wet xyzzy

-- 21:25, 9 October 2011 (UTC)

Yeah, what is on the page is just a bunch of random junk. Your list would be much better. One thing though, "berate" is supposed to be "berata." FatherToast 22:07, 9 October 2011 (UTC)
I'm pretty sure it's in that order because "The Elder Scrolls" easter egg is in there...but for some reason the word was changed to klaatu, and there is too many edits on this page over the last 24 hours for me to identify who the vandal was or why they did it :( --HexZyle 05:05, 10 October 2011 (UTC)
Oh, I hadn't even looked at the page in a while. The last time I saw it, it was just a long list of translated enchantments directly from the game. Well, it's good like it is now, showing "the elder scrolls," "klaatu berata niktu," and the rest somewhat in groups of related words. FatherToast 14:53, 10 October 2011 (UTC)
Yeah Wizjany put it up there, and it was altered by random users over a period of time, so i reverted it. I'm assuming Wizjany DID get it directly from the code. It could be in the same order, just he might of picked those three words out, i dont know. we'll have to ask him. --HexZyle 15:06, 10 October 2011 (UTC)
I can confirm the string "the elder scrolls klaatu berata niktu xyzzy bless curse light darkness fire air earth water hot dry cold wet ignite snuff embiggen twist shorten stretch fiddle destroy imbue galvanize enchant free limited range of towards inside sphere cube self other ball mental physical grow shrink demon elemental spirit animal creature beast humanoid undead fresh stale" is in the code (checked MC 1.1, gn.class, the c field) 09:51, 9 February 20
I have noticed that the enchantment table when decifered has more of riddles than tells you exactly what the enchant will be (EX: "scrolls scrolls earth imbue" has given me sharpness III and knockback I maybe because earth is hard and will "deflect" or make something "bounce" off of it. and maybe because imbur means to inspire with a feeling or quality so that sharpness is the quality of feeling of power since sharpness is the most powerful sword enchant) i dont really know the relation between the "riddle" and the enchant but im sure one of the brilient minds here can help me figure it out. The words undead, and humanoid could hint to smite which is best against the "undead" and "humanoids" (zombies and skeletons). The words hot, fire, and ignite could be fire aspect. I hope some could help me be better at these "riddles" and i would really apresiate it. 02:53, 8 September 2015 (UTC) Steven Albright

At some point since the nonsense word list on the page was last updated, they added the phrase "phnglui mglwnafh cthulhu rlyeh wgahnagl fhtagnbaguette" to the end. Apart from "baguette" (& some missing apostrophes), this is a quote from "The Call of Cthulhu" by H. P. Lovecraft. -- 02:25, 21 June 2018 (UTC)

This article still says bookshelves surrounding the table don't effect enchanting, but the enchantment page says they do by unlocking more spells. Cobalt32 21:30, 13 October 2011 (UTC)

actually they do, the more bookshelves surrounding the enchantment table, the "higher level" the spells get. Ex: with 51 total bookshelves around the enchantment table (which i have in my SSP world), the highest level spell i've seen is 47. no idea if there's a max or not. 20:43, 14 October 2011 (UTC)
Use a colon : to indent your text --HexZyle 03:52, 15 October 2011 (UTC)
The highest level seen and proven is 50 (no idea how people got 51 in the description). This is achieved by putting a row of 16 bookshelves (5 lines wide, 5 lines deep) around the table with air spaced between the shelves and table. Only the row at the same height of the table, AND the row one block higher than the table contribute. ALL other rows do not contribute floating letters. 32 is thus the maximal amount of bookcases that influence the enchantment table. -Saratje 19:26, 17 October 2011 (UTC)
So basically, you need to make a 5x5 perimeter around your table for best effect? I presume you're going to need to climb over some of those bookshelves to reach the table, then? Cobalt32 16:54, 20 October 2011 (UTC)
I don't believe you need all 32, because the ones in the corners aren't needed. Only 24 are needed:

with another layer on top of the bookshelves displayed in this diagram. --HexZyle 01:49, 21 October 2011 (UTC)

It's been thoroughly tested, including by me. The non-visible corners of a bookshelf still count as a whole bookcase. Only when an entire block is in the path of the bookshelf will the bookshelf bonus not be applied, but corners of other blocks next to the bookshelf do not block it's path. Testing shows that when the eight corner bookshelves are left out, the enchantment level will not exceed level 41.

LEVEL 41 and below.

LEVEL 50 and below.

-Saratje 22:02, 22 October 2011 (UTC)

Can we add these diagrams to the page? They would be useful to inexperienced players.

Cap level[edit]

I've altered the mentioned level 51 into level 50. When screenshots of higher levels are provided we can all confirm properly that level 50 is not the cap. Current extensive testing however shows nothing above level 50 with 32 bookshelves surrounding the enchantment table. -Saratje 19:29, 17 October 2011 (UTC)

No lists![edit]

All lists will be moved to Enchanting, that is where they belong. --Ecksearoh 10:46, 21 October 2011 (UTC)

Item Clicking[edit]

It is a widely speculated rumor that clicking or right-clicking with item stacks to quickly scroll the enchantments will cause the levels to change, but not the enchantments themselves. I highly doubt this myself, but I'm being open-minded. Is there any proof of this glitch/bug or is it just a nasty rumor from someone misinformed? Redstone Dust.png Eearslya Redstone Dust.png talk | contribs ) 06:59, 8 February 2012 (UTC)

No. The enchantments are decided after you click on the number of levels you want to spend. HotdogPi 22:22, 6 March 2012 (UTC)

What is the height of an enchanting table? (It works like Soul Sand for one-way doors, so it must be less than 1 block high.) HotdogPi 22:22, 6 March 2012 (UTC)

3/4 block. MEOW 16:55, 8 May 3012 (EST)

Bookshelf arrangement[edit]

Since we now only need 15 bookshelves to get maximum enchantments, what are some suggested layouts for arranging them?

Experiment in creative mode? I like putting them all along two sides stepped up so that it can be put in the corner of a large room and you can climb the bookcases. There are probably hundreds of ways you can arrange them.

Enchantment table bug[edit]

Once I enchanted a few tools and suddenly there was a clock shadow-thing and the middle of it was Enchanting table. That was so freaky but it was cleared by changing dimensions. Is this common and please write on the bugs article or trivia.

I don't sign because I don't have a user and I can't login because of slow connection I have.

Possible bug when adding books to enchantment slot[edit]

I've observed that if I attempt to add a book from a stack via hovering the cursor over the enchantment slot and pressing the number key corresponding to the location of the book stack in the hotbar, one book will be added to the slot and the rest will disappear.

Paragraphs about village ingredients, galactic alphabet[edit]

Whilst tidying up this article I felt that the paragraph accompanying the "Crafting" section was superfluous and could be removed. I also thought the section about the Standard Galactic Alphabet, whilst interesting, was trivia and should be moved as such. Since I am not sure about either I shall leave them to popular vote and/or no-one caring either way :-)
