Request to Merge[edit]

Request to merge this with weapons. -Zaneo

why? its a separate item, all the other items have their own page.Toadbert
I agree. There's no need for a merge.--Quatroking - Garble Garble! 13:49, 10 July 2010 (UTC)

Arrow redirects here[edit]

This page show how to construct a Bow, but not an arrow, even though 'arrow' redirects here. 19:58, 27 July 2010 (UTC)

Theres a lot of dumb redirects, like seeds and soil redirecting to farming.Toadbert

mention a quiver somewhere[edit]

In the items image in the new minecrqft release it shows a quiver. Perhaps this should be mentioned somewhere...

data values[edit]

--The codes for the Bow and Arrows is 261 and 262 respectively. Someone should get around to adding that to the Data Table. - Violet

I added the inventory icon for arrows :)

I think it would be awesome if arrows could some way be crafted with ores to make better arrows, and even bows crafted with ores to make faster and stronger bows ... >Twspas12< :):):):):)

In the game Terraria, there are different types of arrows, so if other games have it, Minecraft should >Minethecreeper<

Arrows After Death[edit]

Arrows fired from the player can't be looted after respawning. Whoever has a couple arrows to dispose of is welcome to test it out. Whoever wants to edit it into the page, then be my guest. LostUser 05:36, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

Doesn't Break Glass[edit]

The trivia section states that arrows can't break glass block. That's true, and I imagine some added that as a bit of "Reality Vs. Minecraft" trivia. The problem is that glass block are either a meter or a yard thick. You expect expect a single arrow to shatter glass that thick, so is it really at all necessary to mention this? --Valos 04:05, 30 November 2010 (UTC)

Flaming Arrow[edit]

The link that talks about flaming arrows... Could it possibly find a use for Netherstone?

Also, arrows of light (e.g., arrows that do more damage to spiders, skeletons, etc) could be a hypothetical use for Lightstone. --Sompresneo 00:37, 16 December 2010 (CST)

Pink Arrows!?[edit]

When looking in the Item folder in the Minecrat.jar file, there is a picture with pink arrows. Should this be added into this page? File:Arrows.png Look closely at the bottom arrow. --Ikalpo 13:24, 20 December 2010 (CST)

old. was in survival test.--Kizzycocoa 19:29, 20 December 2010 (UTC)
This may be used in multiplayer for transparency; in SMP other players appear as silver-white, perhaps to indicate that you cannot pick them up. --Bobtheblueberry 21:08, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
I saw one of these arrows in one of my creative 1.9prerelease worlds. Normally I wouldn't pay much attention to the arrows sticking in the ground, but an arrow caught my eye and I thought there was something weird with its look/color cause it had a tinge to the shaft. (I'm pretty sure it was this purple one, now that I see there is a file for it). It might have been mine or a skeleton's - I forgot. - Asterick6 05:13, 8 November 2011 (UTC)

Arrow damage[edit]

Why doesn't it say anywhere what damage an arrow does? I'd put it in myself, but now I'm not even sure what the damage is (see Talk:Sword) LTK 70 12:54, 1 February 2011 (UTC)

Edit: Looks like I overlooked it. All better now! LTK 70 18:03, 1 February 2011 (UTC)

Arrows in the Nether[edit]

There's currently a note in Trivia that reads:

  • Arrows do not travel farther in the Nether.

While I'm sure this is true, one wonders why it's even mentioned. I could add a similar note saying:

  • Arrows do not travel farther on July 14th.

Which would be equally true, but not worth mentioning. I'm sure they don't travel farther under all kinds of circumstances (when fired at night, when fired while standing on gravel, etc.) but why would you think they would? Does keeping this particular note make sense for some reason? --Euryleia 17:25, 24 March 2011 (UTC)

It's a popular belief, and Nether is a seperate world. Mentionning here is useful. Calinou 23:04, 24 March 2011 (UTC)

If it's debunking a popular myth (admittedly I haven't heard of it) then it has use being there. Perhaps add "Contrary to popular myth" at the start just so it is outlined why the note is there on the page.  ANNOYING  23:57, 24 March 2011 (UTC)
A google search for "arrows fly farther in the nether" or "arrows travel farther in the nether" both return no results when enclosed in quotes. A search for +minecraft +arrows +farther +nether doesn't return anyone claiming so in a casual skip through the results. Can you point to a specific case of someone saying this is true, Calinou? Manifold 19:58, 5 August 2011 (UTC)

It would avoid confusion to keep that, just add "Contrary to common belief". Look at Ambience's trivia, too. Calinou - talk × contribs » 21:25, 5 August 2011 (UTC)

Arrows travel lenght??[edit]

I have managed to shoot an arrow 55 blocks on flat ground without any mods or anything, just 1 single bow and 1 single arrow. I tested this many time in different directions and max I could shoot was 55. Xionico 03:50, 21 April 2011 (GMT+1)

It depends for how high you hit it. And you spelled "length" wrong. Emberdad 12:40, 13 May 2012 (UTC)

Visual Update[edit]

thumb "Arrows that hit a target such as a mob will disappear."

Take a look at this screenshot of the future update 1.8. What do you see? --HexZyle 11:26, 3 August 2011 (UTC)

Maybe that's a new feature for the Adventure Update. --SpaghettiGuy3 03:08, 7 August 2011 (UTC)

Added in 1.0.0 22:21, 17 June 2012 (UTC)

Maybe the skeleton shot it in the back and the zombie turned to attack it. I once saw an enderman with two arrows in its head because a skeleton shot it twice. Also, the skeleton is not holding a full size bow. User:Minethecreeper

This article doesn't look that good because it tries to describe 2 quite different items on one page. Shouldn't this page just be split into a Bow and an Arrow article? (if you got some project page for such nominations please tell me or nominate it there) Joeytje50 10:37, 17 August 2011 (UTC)

I agree. It just doesn't seem to fit in with the rest of the Wiki articles to have both in one. Qwertygiy 20:40, 12 November 2011 (UTC)

arrow no longer fire rapidly[edit]

Page needs to be updated to 1.8. Arrows cannot be fired rapidly anymore. 22:42, 11 October 2011 (UTC)

It's fired Left-handed in worldview?[edit]

Does anybody notice that the bow shoots arrows left-handed in worldview? 11:07, 21 November 2011 (UTC)

If you mean third person, then no it doesn't. –User:Ultradude25 (User:Ultradude25/t|User:Ultradude25/c) at 11:40, 21 November 2011 (UTC)
It looks that way in first person, though. FatherToast 16:58, 21 November 2011 (UTC)

Actually, the bow is held in the right hand. And when drawn back, the bow is keept in the right hand and the arrow is drawn back with the left hand. A right handed person would have held the bow in the left hand, while drawing back the arrow with the right hand. In-game, the bow is held with the right hand, both in third person view and first person view. 10:59, 26 January 2012 (UTC)

The bow is a weapon that can be crafted in Indev, Infdev, Alpha, and Beta.

Since we are in Minecraft, not Minecraft beta, and we can still craft the bow, i shall change the introductory sentence to:

The bow is a weapon that can shoot arrows to kill mobs at longer distances.

Anyone have a better sentence? --Usyflad10 07:36, 25 November 2011 (UTC)

Arrow damage[edit]

This is the code for calculating arrow damage:

               float velocity = MathHelper.sqrt_double(motionX * motionX + motionY * motionY + motionZ * motionZ);
               int damage = (int)Math.ceil((double)velocity * 2D);
                   damage += rand.nextInt(damage / 2 + 2);

We can see, that basic damage is arrow velocity * 2 rounded up. Initial velocity is Force*2F where force ranges from 0.1F (not charged) to 1.0F (fully charged) (note, that fully charged arrow wil be also critical) From part of the setArrowHeading function we leans, that theoretically not fully charged bow could do damage but is extremely unlikely (we need to release bow just before it get fully charged, and have extreme luck with random number generator ... three times in a row). So uncharged arrow damage will be between and which already shown in the article. The charged damage however will range from (if you are unlucky) to . If you got luck with random numbers earlier, you even can do damage. — MiiNiPaaT|C 10:20, 4 December 2011 (UTC)

Extra bow glitch[edit]

I just had a bow break and be replaced with an extra full-use one. However, I did not have another bow on the hotbar, as suggested in the "bugs" section. 10:41, 24 January 2012 (UTC)

Bow Health Recharge?[edit]

I had an enchanted bow with Power III. It was almost dead and then I went into the Nether, bringing some extra string so I could make a new one when it broke. I shot a few Ghasts, hitting the flaming things that they were shooting at me, and also getting the achievement "Return to Sender". At one point or another I looked at the health of my bow and it was almost back up to 100% again. Has anyone ever seen this or know why it happens? --Gkullberg 14:01, 25 January 2012 (UTC)

Sounds like the same bug as above: it ran out of uses, but got reset to full durability instead of breaking.

-- 02:38, 5 July 2013 (UTC)== Infinity Bow Enchant lvl ==

At what lvl the bow can have the infinite arrows enchantment? I tried 3 bows at lvl 25 and nothing. --tomo

Have you tried shooting the bow without arrows in your inventory? I made a lvl 50 enchant on a bow in creative; power 5 and nothing else. I was able to fire it without any arrows in my inventory (toolbar or otherwise), however the arrows I fired I couldn't pick up, similarly to Skeleton and Dispenser arrows.

Can anyone confirm, and does anyone know why this happens? '

Zeuskabob 05:42, 31 March 2012 (UTC)

You do not need to have arrows in your inventory to shoot a bow in your inventory if you are in creative mode, this is an intended feature.

Can anyone confirm the chest items disapperance?

Lol i always start in creative with, A diamond sword, a bow and a torch. I don't need arrows because they aren't needed in creative. And infinity is hard to find. I thought it was infinite health, but probably inf arrows. Emberdad 12:42, 13 May 2012 (UTC) _________________________________________________________________________________________ -- 02:38, 5 July 2013 (UTC)Ba39 At what level do you have to enchant a book at to get Infinity on the Enchanted Book?

Suicidal Bow Usage[edit]

Found a new glitch: When walking forward and quickly right clicking, the player shoots themself. Arrow can then be seen on inventory screen player view.

Bouncing / backward arrow firing?[edit]

Using a bow to kill skeletons in my grinder (since they drop bows and arrows, it's renewable, and doesn't use any hunger points) Every so often I'll shoot myself with an arrow somehow. I'm standing still, several blocks away from the skeletons. There's a one-block high opening that exposes them from the waist down, so they can't see me to shoot at me, and sometimes I'll get hit with an arrow when I fire it and bounce sideways (my back is normally against a wall). What's going on? I'm not moving, so it's not the 'run into an uncharged arrow' thing... --StarChaser Tyger 22:39, 4 September 2013 (UTC)

After some experimentation, it's the 'smoke from a dying mob' thing. They're actually bouncing back, not just losing momentum as the article currently says. --StarChaser Tyger 22:56, 4 September 2013 (UTC)

Do you guys notice that this page is VEEEEEEEEEEERY outdated? J192 12:25, 9 January 2014 (UTC)

Update it then, or at least explain what parts are outdated so they can be improved. -- Orthotopetalk 18:56, 9 January 2014 (UTC)

power enchantment and new 1.8 arrow physics[edit]

do power enchantments negate the new slow effect when bows are fired underwater, as in allow you to fire farther than normal, or still do more damage than normal at a given distance.

Fire Arrow[edit]

When a fire arrow is shot and a Flammable block/entity goes near/atop it(after its landed), why doesn't it set it on fire or in TNT's case, explode? | AndrewAB (talk|contr)20px 18:20, 29 July 2016 (UTC)

I think most topics on this talk page can be archived (and some cleanup for that mess at the top...). --Pepijn (talk) 21:30, 1 June 2017 (UTC)
