Good job guys. Did you redirect the old Golden Apple page? -- 13:26, 13 July 2010 (UTC)

Apples more common[edit]

I don't have the confidence to edit the article but apples appear to have a chance to drop from leaves just like saplings now.

I've been unable to confirm this so far. Are you certain you didn't install a mod? I seem to recall one that adds apples as a possible drop from leaves. The only other thing I can think of is its only possible from trees in certain biomes.

--XipXoom 02:33, 1 November 2010 (UTC)

No, the only mods I have are Brown and Bloom texture pack and an ambient occlusion mod, and i just got 4 apples from one tree.

EDIT(@14:27) Ah, it appears its a mod the server I go on uses (as I cannot get apples from trees in singleplayer)

Heading text[edit]

Golden apples require 72 ingots. You need 8 golden blocks in the recipe and each block requires 9 golden ingots. 9x8 = 72. Since we're talking ingots, 72 is the correct number.

Final Warning: Any edits regarding removing the "Apples falling from tree" addition[edit]

It has been confirmed that as of an unknown update after Beta, Apples have the slightest chance of spawning when a tree is cut down. If this information is taken off again, I am going to advise other players and / or (If any) a Wiki Administrator about foul edits to the page.

"It has been confirmed"... where, exactly? Who said it, and when? Do you have any links, citations, or proof of this? --DannyF1966 12:35, 6 January 2011 (UTC)
I've taken a look through the source code and can find no mention of apples dropping anywhere in the code for logs or leaves. In fact, the only mentions I've found in the source code for apples are in the apple item definition itself, the code that makes Notch drop apples upon death, the crafting recipe for golden apples, and the code that puts golden apples in dungeon chests. If someone has actually "confirmed" this, I would like to know where they got their information. --Arturion 08:56, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
I'm removing it. This is silly. I've cut down tons of trees, and have never seen it. It's clearly from a modification of some sort. Kaseki 10:32, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

Notch's apple drop[edit]

"Notch drops red apples when he dies in SMP." there's a citation missing, where is the proof for this statement? --Gachl 14:59, 31 January 2011 (UTC)

It was taken directly from the source code. Maybe someone needs to go take a screenshot of that portion of it. –User:Ultradude25 (User:Ultradude25/t|User:Ultradude25/c) at 22:08, 31 January 2011 (UTC)
Here is a snippet of code that proves it: Pastebin, pay attention to lines 7 to 10. If this is a violation of the rules, feel free to remove the link. Since it isn't likely that we would link to actual code in the actual article, nor a screenshot of it (basically the same thing!), I say we should simply cite the source code. I have done so. Feel free to review my change and remove it if it makes little sense.TJF 09:29, 12 February 2011 (UTC)
Actually in 1.7.3 does not drop apple. EntityHuman.die(Entity) is not executed for EntityPlayer, since there is not super.die(entity) call. Ishinay 01:24, 26 August 2011 (UTC)

I tried killing Notch in SMP. Didn't drop an apple.... –Preceding unsigned comment was added by (Talk) 05:38, 2 October 2011‎ (UTC). Please sign your posts with ~~~~

WHAAAAT!?!?! YOU KILLED NOTCH!?!? You vile, evil, cruel, blasphemous being, to kill the God of Minecraft! –Preceding unsigned comment was added by (Talk) 22:31, 26 June 2012 (UTC). Please sign your posts with ~~~~

(Guy with no account) I don't think that wax really Notch you killed... it must of been someone else... –Preceding unsigned comment was added by (Talk) 18:58, 28 February 2013 (UTC). Please sign your posts with ~~~~

I have tried too killing someone of the name Notch, but that did not drop an apple in beta 1.7.3. Ishinay might be right in pointing out that the code never has the chance to get executed, therefore normal apples are unattainable in those versions. 12:36, 21 March 2013 (UTC)

Unnecessary Plugin Mention[edit]

Is it really helpful to mention how some mods affect how red apples are acquired? It seems like unnecessary junk text. Izzalion 05:39, 13 February 2011 (UTC)

Fixed. Third-party content shouldn't be on main material pages. Thanks for the catch! --Gnu32 13:27, 13 February 2011 (UTC)

Red Apple, Move it to removed/unobtainable?[edit]

Notch should have apples as they are widely known around the world. I know them as a basic fruit. Notch should create an actual apple tree to obtain the apples. Otherwise it would seem to be very unprofessional to leave apples as a very rare items as it can only restore 2 hunger bars (since Beta 1.8) and do nothing more. It would be nice if he did make apple trees and apples would be so common. Apple Pies would make it even more interesting! -Peashooter101 9:29 PST October 27, 2011

Upon viewing the Minecraft source code I found that there are no apples found in dungeons. Perhaps this may should be moved to removed section? However, this might confuse some people because leafdropper (and perhaps other [server] plugins/mods) drop apples from leaves occasionally. –Preceding unsigned comment was added by Bobtheblueberry (Talk|Contribs) 16:46, 30 March 2011 (UTC). (I think apples dropping from leaves is a good idea. Chappens 03:34, 12 April 2011 (UTC) )

Really... I remember finding a red apple once, but i could be wrong. I don't think it would count as either of those. It's in the game, and it seems to be only obtainable from notch dying. I suggest marking it as unobtainable in SSP only. --Zkyo 16:56, 30 March 2011 (UTC)

Perhaps he removed red apples from dungeons? I haven't ever seen one and I've been playing since Nov. 1st -- bobtheblueberry 17:22, 30 March 2011 (UTC)

It's possible, but i kind of doubt it. Are you sure there wasn't anything extra in the source where the golden apples are selected? Maybe it's more like if a red apple is selected, there's a 1/1000 chance it is a golden apple instead. --Zkyo 17:25, 30 March 2011 (UTC)

I've looked, it's just not there.. quite intriguing. Here is the dungeon generator on pastebin if you wanna check it out yourself: -- bobtheblueberry 17:55, 30 March 2011 (UTC)

While that dungeon generation code was probably correct at some point, I don't currently see cocoa beans in there, so I'd be a bit skeptical about it. Theothersteve7 04:48, 12 April 2011 (UTC)

I came across this myself while looking at the dungeon generation code the other day. I agree, upon grepping through the code, the only way to obtain red apples currently is through the Notch easter egg. I've updated the intro text accordingly. Technically they are still available in-game (only through playing SMP with Notch) so I'm ambivalent as to whether to move it to removed items. As for the cocoa beans, they are listed in the current code as the 11th possibility (i == 10) as (dyePowder, 1, 3). (Sorry, I'm not at the machine that has the source, so just typing that from memory.)Ben –The preceding undated comment was added on 21:34, 12 April 2011 (UTC). Please sign your posts with ~~~~

I strongly agree this should be moved to unobtainable because it is unobtainable to get. YoshiRider9000 04:12, 5 May 2011 (UTC)

It's only unobtainable in singleplayer, and that may very well be a bug. –User:Ultradude25 (User:Ultradude25/t|User:Ultradude25/c) at 04:30, 5 May 2011 (UTC)
Well killing notch isn't normal and if it is a bug and notch accidentally removed it then are you saying the removed locked chests may be a bug too?
sorry forgot to sign it YoshiRider9000 04:35, 5 May 2011 (UTC)
No, but it's still not unobtainable, just very very rare. Locked chests were removed on purpose, what has that got to do with this? He could've quite easily overwritten the code when updating by accident, and not realised he did. Best thing to do is simply spam his twitter about it and see what he says. –User:Ultradude25 (User:Ultradude25/t|User:Ultradude25/c) at 04:51, 5 May 2011 (UTC)

Red Apples are obtainable[edit]

I remember getting them from breaking leaves, but that might have been a plugin. not sure. RXDimA 10:03, 21 May 2011 (UTC)

Certainly a mod, that's not standard for minecraft. Darkid 11:59, 21 May 2011 (UTC)

I found red apples in SSP on Beta 1.7.3. They appeared from breaking leaves. I didnt have mods. Kirbo 2:23, 9 July 2011 (EST)

Leaves drop red apples rarely. This is confirmed. I am not running any mods and I have two so far, from leaves decaying. Kaedenn 4:02 9 July 2011 (PST)

Assuming you guys are telling the truth about finding apples (because there are lots of bukkit plugins/mods that let you get apples from leaves), has this only started in 1.7.3? Is this a secret update? Maybe someone familiar with java can look at the jar or something? Jtlcr777 23:52, 9 July 2011 (UTC)

Leaves drop a red apple VERY RARELY it is about a 2 out of 100 chance therefore the article should be changed Editoroftheweek –The preceding undated comment was added on 20:58, 13 July 2011 (UTC). Please sign your posts with ~~~~

I just collected 10 stacks of leaves (640) using shears in the 1.7.3 update, and according to the above speculations, I would have found more or less 12 apples. If anything, I should have at least found one apple from it unless I'm an extremely unlucky person. Are you sure you guys were playing vanilla Minecraft? 1484Kenji 23:10, 13 July 2011 (CEST)

LeafDropper/AppleDrops/zombe's "item" mod. /thread. I say. Calinou - talk × contribs » 21:25, 13 July 2011 (UTC)

He possibly means by breaking leaf blocks, not by harvesting them with your shears. Try that. --HexZyle 10:01, 14 July 2011 (UTC)
In my run for saplings i acquired more than 5 stacks of them by breaking leaves. No apples.MiiNiPaa 10:10, 14 July 2011 (UTC)

I tried this on this( multiplayer server and it worked --A Big Mojang Lover 22:41, 14 July 2011 (UTC)

The key word here is MULTIPLAYER. Multiplayer is enhanced with all sorts of plugins and whatnot. You cannot ensure that the server is completely vanilla, especially if its a bukkit server. This must be tested on SSP with NO MODS. Jtlcr777 23:09, 14 July 2011 (UTC)

Every time I die I seem to get a Red Apple when I collect my stuff, and I don't have any mods. I did some more testing, and I still got red apples with nothing in my inventory. Phycoz –The preceding undated comment was added on 16:29, 26 July 2011‎ (UTC). Please sign your posts with ~~~~

Assuming your statement is completely true, you are either notch, or you are on a multiplayer server with plugins. I'm almost definite its the latter, and also i have never witnessed this happening to me or anyone I have seen, and I'm pretty sure everyone here will agree. Since everyone has a different story on how to obtain apples, its fairly obvious they are unobtainable since no-one can even agree on how to get them. --HexZyle 19:22, 26 July 2011 (UTC)

I was wondering, if fortune makes flint drop from gravel more often. Does it make apples drop more often from leaves? --Just Lazer 01:40, 19 January 2012 (UTC)

Why is this named "Red apples"????? Ingame it is clearly described as simply "Apple" and since there aren't other coloured apples i dont see why we dont rename this page to "Apple" Taurentius 22:27, 1 October 2011 (UTC)

No other colours? What about Golden Apples? --HexZyle 06:27, 2 October 2011 (UTC)
Golden apples are named so because of the metal, not the color. Red apples are only red in the default texture, no where are they actually referred to as being called "red". --Wizjany 06:43, 2 October 2011 (UTC)
Despite where the name comes from, they are both still named that for their colour, to prevent confusion. (just like Melon Seeds and wheat seeds. Seeds aren't called wheat seeds ingame, just plain Seeds) --HexZyle 06:54, 2 October 2011 (UTC)

Apples drop from trees in 1.9.5?[edit]

I was cutting some wood and, as I was leaving the area, noticed an apple sitting on some decaying leaves. I don't have any mods installed, either, so I know I didn't put it there. 05:59, 6 November 2011 (UTC)

Either you had a mod installed, or the server did. –User:Ultradude25 (User:Ultradude25/t|User:Ultradude25/c) at 06:15, 6 November 2011 (UTC)
No he's right. I droped in 1.8.1 on my own bukkit server an Apple while cutting some leaves without a sistor. -- 15:17, 12 November 2011 (UTC)
Bukkit apple mod. –User:Ultradude25 (User:Ultradude25/t|User:Ultradude25/c) at 16:21, 12 November 2011 (UTC)
First of all I think you need an axe to get apples from leaves, not shears, if you can get apples from trees. I did it with a diamond axe, you might need that specifically. It may be an on and off testing feature, being turned on and off in updates. Again, this is based purely on experience and possibilities. This is the best reasons I could think of that WOULD allow this.... –Preceding unsigned comment was added by (Talk) 00:36, 30 November 2011 (UTC). Please sign your posts with ~~~~

Never. Calinou - talk × contribs » 15:38, 12 November 2011 (UTC)

I think that they drop more than 1 in 200... Every time I break a small tree it seems like I get at least one... often two. Does anyone know the actual drop rate? -Sedrick Stevenson –The preceding undated comment was added on 22:51, 30 March 2012‎ (UTC). Please sign your posts with ~~~~

The exact drop rate for apples in PC is 1/300 for oak trees. Maybe you're just lucky? 01:10, 3 May 2013 (UTC)

No Apples???[edit]

For some reason, when I destroy leaves from trees, I don't get apples. Either I am (hugely) unlucky, or apples are not dropped from oak trees in 1.0.0. Can someone tell me what the problem is? –Preceding unsigned comment was added by (Talk) 16:16, 13 May 2012‎ (UTC). Please sign your posts with ~~~~

Apples-from-leaves wasn't added until after PC version 1.0.0. The article covers this. And sign your posts with ~~~~. --timrem 18:07, 13 May 2012 (UTC)

Incorrect page content move in the past[edit]

It appears that instead of moving Apples to Apple in the past, the content of the plural title was pasted into here. There's over 90 revisions of Apples and I'm wondering if they could be merged over here since that's a decent amount of lost history. If possible, Talk:Apples should be merged here as well. User:Kanegasi User talk:KanegasiUser:Kanegasi/edit count 03:21, 25 May 2013 (UTC)

Done I left the edits that were made to the talk page after the main page was moved. It was only like two actual edits and was nothing of any value, so I can't be bothered trying to merge those into the current talk page contents. ultradude25Talk

Oh cool. I thought you had to use that Special:Merge thing in order to do that. I guess I should've realized the same delete/restore/move trick for splitting works the same way backwards. Very interesting. User:Kanegasi User talk:KanegasiUser:Kanegasi/edit count 04:32, 25 May 2013 (UTC)
