Fire going out less often in the rain[edit]

Seems odd.. Anomie x, if the chance of fire going out is now 0–45% in the rain, what is it without rain, and what was it before? – Sealbudsman talk/contr 20:13, 16 September 2015 (UTC)

In rain before, the fire would go out with 100% chance when the fire block had a fire tick while it was being rained on. Now when the 0–45% chance fails the fire acts like it's not raining. As for the not-raining code:
  • If "age" is less than 15, 1/3 chance of incrementing "age".
  • If nothing flammable is adjacent, go out if age > 3 or the block below doesn't have a solid top surface.
  • If nothing flammable is below and "age" is 15, 25% chance to go out.
  • Might destroy adjacent flammable blocks.
  • Might spread.
A "fire tick", BTW, is just a block tick on the fire block. One gets scheduled for 30–39 ticks after the fire block is placed and again after any fire tick. A random block tick also counts as a fire tick (note though that the way scheduled ticks work, trying to schedule a new one when one is already pending has no effect). HTH. Oh, duh. I totally thought the sentence meant "fire goes out less often in the rain than when it's not raining". Thanks for the play-by-play of how fire works, as well. I think I'll transcribe this onto the Fire page, as I was wondering earlier how the "age" property worked, and it seemed a little sparse in the article. – Sealbudsman talk/contr 03:14, 17 September 2015 (UTC)
Please do turn my description into good article prose, and thanks! Anomie x (talk) 11:23, 17 September 2015 (UTC)
So to clarify: am I correct in guessing that 0–45% chance means 3% per age? Also what does raining mean, does it mean raining in a rain-permitting biome where actual rain is dropping on the fire from the sky, or does it include rain in deserts or covered areas? –Preceding unsigned comment was added by Sealbudsman (talkcontribs) at 13:21, 17 September 2015 (UTC). Yes, 3 percentage points per "age". The "raining" check excludes covered blocks, deserts, and snowy biomes, but does count raining in one of the four horizontally-adjacent blocks (e.g. a fire on the edge of a desert isn't being rained on directly, but if the block north is plains the fire would treat it as being rained on).
