Minecraft Wiki Admin noticeboard

The admin noticeboard is one way through which users can notify administrators of issues needing administrative attention. While users are welcome to directly contact specific administrators (especially if they are seen to be active), posting here can be an easier and quicker way of ensuring that at least one admin will notice an issue and respond to it promptly. Remember to sign (using four tildes: ~~~~) when posting an issue.

Before posting an issue here, please consider the following:

• This page is for reporting wiki issues. Please post any discussions on the community portal talk page.
• Post only issues that require administrative action, i.e. blocking vandals, protecting pages, restoring deleted pages etc.
• Do not post deletion requests here; instead, the page should be tagged for deletion.
• Do not post issues regarding content disputes. Try making a request for comment instead.
• Mediation requests between users should only be made once a resolution could not be reached between users.
• For issues regarding the use of this wiki, please see our help center.
• For issues with filters preventing edits from being saved: filters are not able to be disabled for specific people. However, an admin may be able to perform the edit themselves for you. "New user" filters expire after you log in and make some edits around the wiki.

In case of vandalism, posting about it here is low priority. Revert it first, anyone can do so. If the vandal created a new page, tag it for speedy deletion. Assume good faith and consider leaving a message on that user's talk page to explain the reason. Post here only if the user has made several disruptive edits and/or persists despite a warning. Observer block

Interwiki table request

Since Gamepedia PRO was introduced, Wikis are now able to use HTTPS instead of HTTP. But there's one issue: When clicking on an interwiki, it gives you the plain old HTTP-connection instead of the user-related HTTPS. My question: Can someone please remove in the interwiki table the http:-prefix for the other Minecraft Wiki-Wikis? Yep, there still are some resources (especially in CSS files) which are loaded using http links. For example, File:Background.png is loaded using an http link in MediaWiki:Common.css. | violine1101^(Talk) 17:46, 14 May 2016 (UTC)

There are some unsafe connections left which can only be changed by Curse. Apart from these, the German Minecraft wiki is mostly HTTPS now by changing http to https in both MediaWiki:Common.css as well as MediaWiki:Hydra.css and Widget:FileUrl. | violine1101^(Talk) 18:13, 14 May 2016 (UTC)

Ummm... @Violine1101: Not all the user are a PRO. Only users who are a PRO user can use an HTTPS connection. Users who aren't PRO still use HTTP. The best option is to let the browser decide by using, as example, //hydra-media.cursecdn.com/minecraft-de.gamepedia.com/9/90/Minecraft_Wiki_header.svg instead of http://hydra-media.cursecdn.com/minecraft-de.gamepedia.com/9/90/Minecraft_Wiki_header.svg and/or https://hydra-media.cursecdn.com/minecraft-de.gamepedia.com/9/90/Minecraft_Wiki_header.svg. --DarkShadowTNT NL Admin (t ♦ c) 19:00, 14 May 2016 (UTC)

Also non-PRO users can use the media server with HTTPS, so this should not be a problem at all.

Template:ID table outputs wrong names

It seems {{ID table}} just does a simple transformation on the item names, so it gives minecraft:wood_planks for "Wood Planks" and minecraft:magma_block for "Magma Block", for example, but those are not the correct names, they are minecraft:planks and minecraft:magma, respectively. As it was previously said, by putting a request to block a user with unacceptable (e. g. offensive) username here, it is made more visible, which is not good. There is another user with a similar unacceptable name (with a repeated vowel), but I don’t want to fully tell it because of that reason (administrators can just look up the user registration log anyway). An IRC-or-otherwise channel for non-public administrative issues would be great for this, but either way anyone can contact an administrator by e-mail.

The abuse filter only applies to edits, moves, account creation, deletion, and uploads. All other log actions are ignored. User profiles bypass all spam protection, basically. –Majr ᐸ Talk

I've noticed this. :/ To clarify my previous comment, is it possible for Curse to modify the abuse filter so that it also applies to profile edits? There's no obvious hooks to allow custom actions to be added, so the extension itself would have to be modified. Doubt Curse wants to maintain their own fork of AbuseFilter and SpamBlacklist, just for the unnecessary profiles feature. –Majr ᐸ Talk

Czech wiki

I think it's time a proper Czech language wiki is set up, at minecraft-cs.gamepedia.com (maybe with minecraft-cz.gamepedia.com as a redirect- the correct code is actually cs, but many people use cz because that's the code [ISO 3166 and Internet TLD] used to refer to the Czech Republic). There's a very sufficient amount of pages- 427 of them, and that will only grow with time and newfound visibility. One user, Rechris (talk • contribs • logs), has been active translating pages for about a month, and has been around doing translation for much longer, so I think they would make a fine administrator for the project. There's one major issue, though- the main page isn't translated. I'd like to request Rechris to translate it, if he/she/they doesn't mind :) -Xbony2 (talk) 21:38, 1 August 2016 (UTC)

On the new wiki, you'll want to want to have Czech titles. And you'll want to move the currently existing articles, like Compass/cz -> Kompas. I (and maybe others) will probably try to help you with this. Remove redirects and translated pages from the search bar

Honestly, I find this looks way too confusing. We have pages for foreign language translations, and redirects for simple capitalization differences, crowding out actual pages.

Wiki advertisements causing page load issues

Hello Admins. There's a pretty glaring issue with browsing this wiki for me, whether I'm logged in or not. In the background, things are being loaded practically all the time. After a while of having a page loaded, it becomes almost impossible to navigate the page because of framerate issues, caused by these things loading in the background. Things never cease to be loaded it seems, even after 5 minutes of being on the page. I'm running Chrome on Windows 10 on a gaming PC with respectable specs from 2013, and my internet is a fairly standard 1.5 MB/sec connection. I've tested this with AdBlock on, and it seems to be fine, however I don't like using it.

Account Problems

I suspect that the problem is due to enforcement of U.S. Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (specifically deleting accounts registered by children under the age of 13), of which I myself once became a victim. Can't create page

Hello, I tried to create a page about light gray dye/light gray wool, but after I spent an entire hour making sure I had correct information, a message popped up when I tried to post it that said, and I quote, " An automated filter has detected that you are attempting to create a possibly unwanted page." I believe this is not correct, because on the page about wool, it doesn't show anything about dye or go into detail about any certain wool color. Please change this, because I believe my edit to be constructive and laborious. These IPs appear to have been vandalising, edit-warring, and making tons of unexplained or unneeded edits for the past three months (maybe longer, not sure).

Unfortunately, those aren't the actual IP addresses. They seem to all be cloudflare addresses, so I'm assuming it's because Gamepedia uses cloudflare that those IPs come up. Even you have used a few of the IPs from the 172.68.0.0/16 range, blocking that range would in-turn block you. –Majr ᐸ Talk

As far as I can tell from the MediaWiki code (as far as that still applies to this specific fork) this is related to some kind of upload error occurring somewhere along the line. So I'm not entirely sure as to whether the issue could be caused by the file itself (A copy of the image can be found on imgur).

Back in June, Wyatt2050 was warned on his talk page by Goandgoo (talk • contribs • logs • block log) to not add speculation/false information because of what he was doing to the 0.15.0 page, and said if he did it again there would be consequences including a temporary block, and was blocked for it, as well as abusing multiple accounts.

Today, he removed the warning and discussion about it. After doing that he proceeded to add speculation/false information to the page Pocket Edition Alpha 0.17.0 and attempted to revert war before giving up. Obviously some form of action needs to be taken here, as he as removed a warning and gone against what he was warned not to do. EDIT: I got something a bit wrong, so I edited it, my bad. @Minecraft Redstoning: The abuse filter tends to be harsh on new users (to protect against spam accounts); once your account is 3 days old and you've made 10 edits it will ease up. Please stop using all caps and making demands. It's rude. Harassing people is explicitly against the rules, as well, and repeatedly doing it is **definitely** a good reason for a block.

The word is "unnecessary".

No-one on the wiki can "change your IP". Your IP address is an indication of where your computer or phone is on the internet at any given time; it's assigned by internet service providers. If you want to use the IP address 173.215.216.190 (there is no reason anyone should care about this, by the way), you have to go back to that same computer or device, at that same location, and hope that the numbers weren't re-assigned in the meantime. Hardness information in infobox is gone

As the title says, the hardness information in the infobox for blocks is gone. It looks like it was removed back in July after some discussion on the talk page. Not entirely sure I agree with removal of the field, but that's why it was removed. It looks like Hardness redirects to a table with the same values (though, I'm not sure how up-to-date it is).

Though if you're writing a mod, the information is available on blocks themselves (Block.getBlockHardness() exists, though it's deprecated; there's some IBlockProperties method that you can use to get it as well (which should work with a block state)). Edit not allowed on Painting

I was trying to edit the Painting article since I spotted a statement intended to be fact that was inaccurate. Here is the original:

A painting of the main character of the classic Atari game International Karate (the Karateka character had white hair, this one clearly has black hair) fighting a large hand. It could also be interpreted as the two hands touching as seen in Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel painting. This is also in Super Smash Bros (SSB for short) A fighter fighting the Master Hand.

The concern here is "This is also in Super Smash Bros (SSB for short) A fighter fighting the Master Hand" which is a similarity, but has no evidence supporting it. I tried to Remove it, but was not allowed to. Here is the message I recieved when I tried to save the page:

Trying to add Console Edition info

I was trying to add some new information to the End City page, due to the upcoming Console Edition update. More specifically, I was trying to update the History section of the page, and found that I could not add a section labelled "Upcoming Console Edition" using the wikitext. I was reproducing the format used by the Upcoming Pocket Edition section, but it seems to not function with Upcoming Console Edition.

Where it says "console upcoming", it shows red text, as if it's the wrong format. The words "Added end cities" appears where the version should be, and nothing appears where the text "Added end cities" should be.

Note that when creating an account, it asks for a "Full Name", but this does not actually need to be your real name. The only purpose of that field is to set a display name instead of a login name. I apologize for not browsing user pages in the intent of finding non-copyrighted material in order to complain on the admin noticeboard that I dislike this or that user and want him blocked... why, I don't know. Wait a minute, aren't you a random IP? What kind of user rights or privileges do you have to ask the admins to block me? Nevertheless, on what basis are you asking for a block? A silly piece of userbox content that you complain you cannot have; simply because you're too reluctant to make an account and quit badgering everyone! Perhaps, though, it's a portion of user page content that you believe violates a rule that is non-existent. I am amazed, and I do apologize to AndrewAB for not noticing that out of 274+ other people, his user page happened to look all-too-much-the-same compared to mine.
