Reason: Texture update

The south-east rule, also known as the Z-X rule, is an unintentional mechanic in Minecraft wherein various effects occur based on the cardinal directions, specifically in a south-east variant.

Effects

The following list contains effects that happen in Minecraft, relating to the south, east, or south-east cardinal directions, including:

  • Rails curve south or east when they are initially placed at a "T" intersection or a "+" intersection. They also curve away from the south or east when powered.
    • An exception to this is if there is an intersection on a downhill rail track, the minecart continues on the downhill track, even if the south-east rule applies. (see Rail#Downhill rule)
  • Any mobs that are spawned by spawn eggs, /summon, monster spawners, the player, or by breeding, always appear to be facing the southern direction initially.
  • TNT cannons tend to fire farther when facing east or south.
  • Many bugs cause problems relating to south and east, such as villagers trying to cram into the house that is mostly in the southern-eastern area of the village.
  • When the player is exactly inside the middle of a block, they are pushed out of the block north-east.
  • 2×2 trees are unable to grow, if north, west or northwest diagonal block is occupied up to the final height of the tree.
  • When the player first spawns into the world, they spawn facing south.

Model/Texture orientation

Blocks can be split into 3 categories based on the model behavior.

  • Always the same way (only has 1 orientation, no other facing version exists); for example, cobblestone, planks, bookshelf, obsidian, ores, etc.
  • The texture orientation is based on the location of the block, not dependent on the placing direction (dirt, grass blocks)
  • Based on the mode of placing, it uses a certain predictable orientation/block state (glazed terracotta, furnace, piston, logs)

Glow berries are a food item obtained from cave vines and can be used to plant them.

Cave vines are a climbable, bonemealable plant that hangs off ceilings and grows glow berries. Cave vines with glow berries produce light and drop glow berries when broken or harvested. Cave vines with no glow berries will not drop anything.

Obtaining
Natural generation
Cave vines can be found in lush caves, hanging from cave ceilings.

Chest loot
glow-berries

Post-generation
Glow berries can be collected from a cave vine by using or breaking the vine. This yields one glow berry when the vine is bearing them and nothing when it is not. A cave vine also breaks if water runs over its location or if a piston extends or pushes a block into its location.

bedrock, using a tool with Silk Touch on cave vines always yields a glow berry, even if the vine appears empty.

Fortune has no effect on the number of glow berries dropped.

Usage
Placement
Glow berries can be placed on and grown from the bottom of most blocks. They have no specific lighting requirements. When placed, they can be of any length.

Growth
Placing glow berries on the bottom of a block creates a cave vine that grows downward one block at a time as long as air is beneath it and its maximum height (2 to 26 blocks) has not been reached. Each newly-grown cave vine block has a 1 in 9 chance of bearing glow berries. Only this tip can ever naturally grow them.JEexact growth rate and chance to bear glow berries

Using bone meal on a cave vine produces glow berries if the vine was not bearing any.

Java, cave vines stop growing if shears are used on the tip.

bedrock, if placing glow berries in the Nether, cave vines are able to grow and produces glow berries.

Food
To eat glow berries, press and hold use while it is selected in the hotbar. Eating one restores 2 hunger and 0.4 hunger saturation points, like sweet berries.

Light
When bearing glow berries, cave vines give off a light level of 14.

Composting
Placing glow berries into a composter by using them on it has a 30% chance of raising the compost level by 1.

Breeding
Glow berries can be fed to foxes to breed them. Foxes are similar to cats when being fed as a wild animal; a sudden movement by the player may cause the fox to flee even if the player holds glow berries. The resulting baby fox trusts the player and does not flee.

Glow berries can be used on baby foxes to reduce the time until they grow by 10%.

Farming
Tutorials/Pumpkin and melon farming
Melon seeds can be planted only on farmland, as stems. Over time, a stem grows through several stages[needs testing] and, at its final growth stage, will produce melons on any adjacent dirt, coarse dirt, rooted dirt, grass block, farmland, podzol, mycelium, moss block, mud or muddy mangrove roots. If a melon is already occupying a spot adjacent to a stem it does not grow more melons until the melons is removed. A single stem can grow an unlimited number of melons. Melon stems need a minimum light level of 10 in the block above the stem to grow and give melons. Melon seeds are affected by bone meal only with respect to stem growth; bone meal does not help produce the actual melons.

Breeding
Like other seeds, melon seeds can be used to breed chickens, lead chickens around, and make baby chickens grow up faster by 10% of the remaining time.

Taming
Like other seeds, melon seeds can be used to tame parrots.

Composting
Placing melon seeds into a composter has a 30% chance of raising the compost level by 1.

Melon Stem
A melon stem is the block that is planted on farmland when melon seeds are used on it. It starts underground, and rises up as the plant grows. The stem is colored green when young, and then yellow once fully grown.

The stem curves once a melon has grown from it. A fully-grown single stem connects to any melon in an adjacent square, thus there are 5 possible appearances to a stem. If there are multiple melons it can connect to, it favors the east, then west, north, and south. When the melon is removed, the stem returns to its straight shape.

Test Build 3Prevented dispensers from firing arrows, eggs, or snowballs through a solid block right next to the dispenser if the dispenser is facing west or south. At this time, this was known as the south-west rule, as at the time the positive X coordinate was west. This meant that any effects that now follow the south-east rule, followed the south-west rule at the time.

Rabbit stew is a food item that can be eaten by the player.

Crafting
Crafting

Trading
bedrock, novice-level Butcher villagers always offer to sell rabbit stew for one emerald as their second trade.

java, novice-level Butcher villagers have a 50% chance of offering rabbit stew for one emerald.

Usage
Food
To eat rabbit stew, press and hold use while it is selected in the hotbar. Eating one restores 10 hunger and 12 hunger saturation. This restores more hunger than any other food type in the game except cake, but has less saturation than a golden carrot, a cooked porkchop, or a steak.

Eating rabbit stew leaves the player with an empty bowl, similar to mushroom stew, suspicious stew, and beetroot soup.

Wolves
bedrock, rabbit stew can be used to feed wolves, healing them by . However, unlike other wolf food, rabbit stew does not speed up the growth of baby wolves, and it cannot be used to breed them. It is usable only on a wolf that has less than full health.

Trivia
* If the ingredients of rabbit stew were eaten separately and the mushroom had become half of a mushroom stew, they would restore a total of 16 and 19.2 saturation points. Without counting the mushroom, the separate ingredients would restore 13 and 15.6 saturation points. Therefore, crafting rabbit stew results in a net loss of restorative points, though it is quicker than eating all the ingredients separately.
* Rabbit stew restores more hunger and total food points (hunger + saturation) than nearly any other single item (the exception is a suspicious stew with Saturation). This is balanced by the point that the stew does not stack, and with its complex recipe it's not so easy to make "on the road". The suspicious stew shares the unstackability, but with only four ingredients it can at least be crafted in the inventory.
