These features have appeared in Java Edition development versions, but the full update containing these features has not been released for Java Edition yet.
The soul sand valley is a large grotto that cuts through the Nether's terrain. There are ravines, expansive lava oceans and tall basalt pillars. The biome itself is made up of soul sand and soul soil, with scattered soul fire, crimson roots and nether fossils. Its fog is light blue and the air particles grey.
This specific combination of terrain and mobs makes the soul sand valley arguably one of the hardest biomes for survival. Ghasts spawn very frequently, and along with the skeletons, they may overwhelm the player with their projectiles. Meanwhile, the player is forced to walk on either soul sand, which slows them down and makes dodging attacks more difficult, or soul soil, where the ghast fireballs may create soul fire and deal considerable damage. A good ranged weapon and a set of armor is highly recommended.
