Seagrass can be obtained with shears. If mined with any other tool or the player's fist, it will drop nothing.
Using bone meal underwater will generate seagrass. The bone meal must be used on a non-transparent block under at least 2 blocks of water, with the water directly above the block being non-flowing. If these conditions are met, a one-block tall seagrass will generate on that block, and if available, seagrass will also generate on surrounding blocks.
The seagrass item can only be placed on non-transparent blocks.
Seagrass can be used to breed turtles.
Applying bone meal to a one-block-tall seagrass will turn it into a two-block-tall seagrass, assuming there is enough space. It can also be used to completely waste bone meal if no such space exists..
