Pumpkin seeds are an item that can be used to grow pumpkin plants.

Ingredients Crafting recipe

Natural generation[edit]

Pumpkin seeds can be found in 40.6% of taiga village house chests in stacks of 1–5, and in 18.5% of dungeon chests, 31.6% of chest minecarts in Mineshafts, and 18.5% of woodland mansion chests, all in stacks of 2–4.

In Bedrock Edition they can be found in 33.3% of bonus chests in stacks of 1–2, and in 43.7% of taiga village house chests in stacks of 1–5.

Pumpkin stems generate naturally in stem farm rooms in woodland mansions.

Pumpkin stems generate in taiga and snowy taiga village farms.

Pumpkin stems[edit]

Pumpkin stems, when destroyed, will drop 0–3 seeds. The odds of dropping 0, 1, 2 and 3 seeds are 100125, 20125, 4125 and 1125, respectively. In the long run, this comes to 0.248 seeds dropped per pumpkin stem.

Shearing pumpkins[edit]

Shearing an uncarved pumpkin will yield 4 pumpkin seeds.

Wandering traders sell pumpkin seeds for 1 emerald.

Pumpkin seeds can be planted only on farmland. Over time, they grow into a stem and produce a pumpkin on any adjacent dirt, grass or farmland block. If a pumpkin is already occupying an adjacent dirt/grass or farmland spot, the stem will not grow more pumpkins until the pumpkin is removed. A single stem can grow an unlimited number of pumpkins. Pumpkin Stems need a minimum light level of 10 in the block above the stem to grow and give pumpkins. Pumpkin seeds are affected by bone meal only with respect to stem growth—bone meal does not help produce the actual pumpkins.

Pumpkin seeds can be used to breed chickens, lead chickens around, and make baby chickens grow up faster by 10% of the remaining time.

Like other seeds, pumpkin seeds can be used to tame parrots.

Placing pumpkin seeds into a composter has a 30% chance of raising the compost level by 1.

Pumpkin Stem[edit]

A pumpkin stem is the block that is planted on farmland when pumpkin seeds are used on it. It starts underground, and rises up as the plant grows. The stem is colored green when young, and then brown once fully grown.

The stem will curve once a pumpkin has grown from it. A fully-grown single stem will connect to any pumpkin in an adjacent square, thus there are 5 possible appearances to a stem. If there are multiple pumpkins it can connect to, it will favor the east, then west, north, and south. When the pumpkin is removed, the stem will return to its straight shape.

Pumpkin stems are technical blocks that cannot be obtained as items.‌[Java and Legacy Console editions only] But they can be obtained via inventory editing or add-ons in Bedrock Edition.‌[Bedrock Edition only]
