v0.13.0 alpha is a major update to Minecraft: Pocket Edition that was released on November 19, 2015. It added many new features primarily focused on redstone and its mechanics, including redstone torches, levers, trapped chests, tripwire hooks, and more. Other new additions included rabbits, desert temples, and new skin packs.

Upon the release of 0.13, Mojang also released an official redstone-interactive map, including all the various redstone mechanics included in the update.

  • String in between needs to be placed manually.
  • Breaking the string triggers a redstone signal, cutting it using shears doesn't.
  • Entities like boats, mobs, arrows or players touching the string trigger a redstone signal.
  • String can be up to 40 blocks long.
  • Crafting recipe: iron ingot on top of a stick on top of a planks.
Daylight sensors
  • The crafting recipe is 3 Oak Slab JE3 BE2Birch Slab JE1 BE1Spruce Slab JE1 BE1Jungle Slab JE1 BE1 wooden slabs, 3 Nether Quartz JE1 BE1 nether quartz and 3 Glass JE3 BE1 glass blocks.
  • Outputs a signal with a strength corresponding to the intensity of the sun.
  • Only works with the sun's light (not man-made light such as torches).
  • Rain affects the sensor's output.

  • Crafted with 1 stick, 6 gold ingots and 1 redstone dust.
  • Needs to be powered by redstone.
  • Transmits redstone signal to 8 powered rails far.
Trapped chests,
  • The crafting recipe is 1 Chest (S) JE1 chest, and 1 Tripwire Hook (texture) JE1 BE1 tripwire hook.
  • Gives out a signal depending on the amount of players looking inside.
  • Large trapped chests can be staggered with large chests to allow more compact storage.
  • Transmit signal downward through one block. This does not apply horizontally.[1]
  • Texture is slightly different than a normal chest, with a red stain around the latch.

Rabbit
  • Drops rabbit hide, raw rabbit, cooked rabbit and rabbit's foot.
  • They have 8 different skins, similar to horses and ocelots: Black, White, Brown, Gold, Black & White, Salt & Pepper, Toast and the Killer Bunny.
    • Naming a rabbit spawn egg or name tag "Toast" gives rabbits a special skin as a memorial to user xyZenTV's girlfriend's rabbit Toast.
    • "The Killer Bunny" is a special type of rabbit, that is hostile toward players within 4 blocks
      • It is a rare spawn.
      • A reference to the movie Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
      • It is white with bloodshot eyes, and blood on its legs and mouth.
      • Automatically spawns with a name tag titled The Killer Rabbit.
      • It can be directly spawned in with the command /summon Rabbit ~ ~ ~ {RabbitType:99}.
  • Rabbits can be bred using carrots, golden carrots or dandelions.
  • Rabbits have the same AI as the most other passive mobs, and jump around randomly.
  • Makes little squeaky sounds when hurt or killed.
  • Spawn as any others farm animals, in grassy biome.
  • Only spawn in forests, deserts, and snowy biomes.
    • Camouflaged to hide in the biomes.

  • Removed the crafting ability of the stonecutter. Items previously craftable using it are now crafted in the crafting table.
  • Unavailable in survival. Only available in creative as a decorative block.
Plants
  • Now make particles when grown with bonemeal.

  • Multiplayer Game can no longer be changed in-game.
  • Broadcast to LAN can no longer be changed in-game.
  • Broadcast to Xbox Live (Windows 10) can no longer be changed in-game.
Graphics
  • Light is now emitted from below the Nether.
  • Removed the Coral material which served no purpose.[2]
  • Hotbar item count is now at the bottom corner of the selected item (if stackable) and has PC text.
  • Game data is now expressed in JSON files (see here for an example).[3]

  • MCPE-5509 – Bubble particles indicating a drowning player appear in Creative mode.
  • MCPE-6322 – Mobs get stuck in fence gates/walls/fences.
  • MCPE-6910 – Players that break a block without another block behind, said breaking pauses.
  • MCPE-7980 – Entities and transparent blocks invisible when viewed through clouds.
  • MCPE-8043 – Clouds are not visible when generating new terrain.
  • MCPE-8140 – Monsters are not willing to attack players who are in double-tall plants.

  • MCPE-12050 – Fire can not be broken unless the player breaks the block underneath or use water.
  • MCPE-12144 – German button translation is wrong.
