Java Edition

1.16.4

Main article: Java Edition 1.16.4

1.16.4 is an upcoming minor update to Java Edition with no set release date. It will not contain any gameplay features from Caves & Cliffs and is expected to be the last 1.16.x minor update before 1.17 snapshots phase.[1]

1.17

Main article: Java Edition 1.17

1.17 is an upcoming major update to Java Edition with no set release date, which will make additions and revamp the mountain and cave generation. The theme is "Caves & Cliffs" and will adding new features inside them. The Caves & Cliffs was announced at Minecraft Live 2020.[2]

Combat changes

The combat system is planned to be reworked in a future update, keeping the cooldown but only allowing the player to attack when fully charged. It is not known yet when those changes will be made, as they are developed in parallel to other features and will make it into the game "when they're good enough". The update in which they are included will also not be a combat-themed update.[3]

Bedrock Edition

1.16.100

1.16.100 is an upcoming minor update to Bedrock Edition with no set release date, which will add new commands, expanding and improving the add-on and script engine mechanics, adds the RenderDragon graphics engine, more parity from Java Edition, revamps the achievement/trophy UI and fixes bugs.[4]

1.17.0

1.17.0 is an upcoming major update to Bedrock Edition with no set release date, which will make additions and revamp the mountain and cave generation. The theme is "Caves & Cliffs" and will adding new features inside them. The Caves & Cliffs was announced at Minecraft Live 2020.[5]

RTX Update

RTX Ray Tracing capability using the RenderDragon graphics engine is planned to be added to Bedrock Edition in a future update. It will be available on Windows 10, using a compatible NVIDIA graphics card. It is not known yet when this will be implemented, but the feature is currently in beta development.
