A Wooden plank is a block that is not naturally found on maps; it must be crafted by the player. It appears as a series of interconnected planks. It is good for creating a support style for your buildings and also making huts and shacks. Wooden Planks are a renewable resource. Wood is easy to obtain in biomes where trees can be found.

Building

The value of building with wooden planks is disputed in Beta. Structures built of planks can be burned down easily, either by accident or by griefers. It is often used, regardless of the dangers, for its abundance in trees and for certain sorts of buildings, such as Inns.

Wooden planks are used in many crafting recipes: wooden axe, pickaxe, sword, shovel, and hoe; pressure plate, crafting table, chest, bowl, sign, door, boat, stick, stairs, fence, jukebox, bookshelf, note block, bed, and slab.

Fuel

Planks can be used in a furnace to achieve burning for 15 seconds, which can smelt 1 1/2 items, although it is more efficient to turn the wood blocks into charcoal by cooking them in the furnace. Planks are a good substitute before coal/charcoal is found. It takes 43 planks to smelt a full stack of 64 items.

Trivia

  • Wooden planks originally looked more like a brick block File:OldWood.PNG when they were first made.
  • In Survival Test, they could be made simply by breaking wood blocks.
  • There seems to be an unnamed block in the game's code that looks like wood, but takes the properties of a monster spawner, which disappears when it spawns a pig. [citation needed]
