Revision as of 02:59, 5 December 2020

Nether gold ore is a variant of gold ore found only in the Nether.

Obtaining

Natural generation

Nether gold ore generates in the Nether in the form of mineral veins. Nether gold ore replaces netherrack 10 times per chunk in veins of size 1-10, from levels 10 to 117, in all Nether biomes. In basalt deltas, nether gold ore attempts to generate 20 times per chunk as there are fewer valid generation areas.

Breaking

Nether gold ore requires a pickaxe to be mined.

Stone 1.15
Iron 0.75
Diamond 0.6
Netherite 0.5
Golden 0.4
  1. Times are for unenchanted tools as wielded by players with no status effects, measured in seconds. For more information, see Breaking § Speed.

Nether gold ore drops 2-6 gold nuggets when mined with any pickaxe. Fortune has a 33.3% chance to multiply the drops by 2, Fortune II has a 25% chance to multiply the drops by 2 or 3 and Fortune III has a 20% chance each to multiply the drops by 2, 3, or 4 for a maximum possible drop of 24 golden nuggets. The average number of nuggets from Fortune III is 8.8, which is less than an ingot; therefore it is more efficient to mine nether gold ore with Silk Touch and smelt it into gold ingots.

Usage

Piglins

Piglins become hostile toward players that mine the ore, regardless if the player is wearing gold armor. The same case applies if the player mines gold of any type, not just the ore. If any nether gold ore is dropped and in its item form, piglins will run towards any nether gold ore and examine it for 6 to 8 seconds after picking it up.

A diamond is a mineral that can only be obtained from diamond ore, loot chests and suspicious blocks. It is required to craft diamond tools and armor (and therefore obtain obsidian to access the Nether), enchanting tables, jukeboxes and duplicate smithing templates.

Tutorials/Diamonds
Mining
Diamond Ore#Natural generation
Diamond ore can be mined using an iron pickaxe or stronger. An ore drops a single diamond. If mined by any other tool, it drops nothing. If the pickaxe is enchanted with Fortune, it can drop an extra diamond per level of Fortune, allowing for a maximum of 4 diamonds with Fortune III. If the ore is mined using a pickaxe enchanted with Silk Touch, it drops an ore block rather than a diamond. The ore is found at level 15 or lower, most commonly between -50 and -64; levels -58 and -59 are the preferred levels to mine at since they don't contain bedrock, as it starts spawning at -60.

Trading
bedrock, expert-level armorer, toolsmith, and weaponsmith villagers buy one diamond for an emerald as part of their trades.

java, journeyman-level armorer villagers have a 40% chance of offering to buy one diamond for one emerald. Expert-level toolsmith villagers have 2 chance of offering to buy one diamond for one emerald. Expert-level weaponsmith villagers always offer to buy one diamond for one emerald.

Repairing
Diamonds are the repair items for the diamond tier and armor material, and thus can be used to repair the following items in an anvil or grindstone:

* Diamond Shovel
* Diamond Hoe

Beacons
Diamonds can be used to select powers from a beacon. The player must select one of the available powers then insert a diamond into the item slot.

A diamond can be substituted for an iron ingot, a gold ingot, an emerald or a netherite ingot.

Trivia
*Unlike in Minecraft, newly mined diamonds in real life are rough, cloudy stones. The largest, purest ones are polished into crystal-clear gemstones, while the rest are used in industry for cutting and grinding.
*Although diamonds themselves are not renewable, all tools, weapons, and armor made from diamonds can be acquired through trading, and are therefore renewable. Other items crafted from diamonds are not renewable.
*In the April fools version Java Edition 2.0, diamond chickens can lay diamonds. This does not exist in newer versions, as this was a joke.
*The item forms of diamonds and turtle eggs have the same shape.

beta 1.16.0.57Nether Gold Ore JE2 BE1 Added nether gold ore.

Trivia

  • In 2017, Jeb showed interest in a suggestion regarding nether gold ore that was posted on Reddit.[1]
    • This comment also suggested that nearby zombie pigmen, the mob now currently known as zombified piglins, should become angry at the player when they mine nether gold ore. Jeb also showed interest in this aspect of the suggestion, and this may have been the inspiration for piglins becoming angry when gold of any type is mined near them.
