Launcher Update[edit]

The version for the launcher is still 1.5.3, whereas the latest version is 1.6.11 --98.164.254.73 16:01, 31 January 2015 (UTC)

1.6.11 is the native launcher, which is currently only available for user running Windows, and as such, isn't available to the full public. The public launcher is still at version 1.5.3. BDJP007301 16:13, 31 January 2015 (UTC)
The Mac and .jar launchers also report their version as 1.6.11 now. -- Orthotopetalk 21:18, 31 January 2015 (UTC)

Update Xbox version numbers / general question about protection level[edit]

It would be great if an admin could update the Xbox 360 version number to TU22 and the Xbox One version number to CU10. Also, I don't understand why this module has to be protected so only admins can edit it - it would be much easier if you had not to ask an admin to update the version numbers. I don't see a problem about vandalism as it is unlikely that a vandal finds this page. In my opinion, it should be protected for autoconfirmed users only though. (Note: On the German wiki, the corresponding module is also protected like that - No vandalism so far. Well, this is not comparable as the English wiki has way more readers than the German one has.) | violine1101(Talk) 18:18, 1 March 2015 (UTC)

Updated. It's affected by cascading protection from the main page; any templates used there are automatically protected so it can't be vandalized by someone editing a transcluded template. It might be possible to turn off the cascading protection and deal with the templates individually, but I'd want to check with the other admins first. -- Orthotopetalk 20:14, 1 March 2015 (UTC)

On the German wiki, I called the current Wii U version "1.0" inofficially to be able to identify it. It could also be "1.6.4" since that is the PC version the current Wii U version equates to. Neither at the forums nor at the bug tracker the current Wii U Edition version is mentioned officially. | violine1101(Talk) 15:12, 19 December 2015 (UTC) Edited 15:15, 19 December 2015 (UTC)

The Console Edition version history page states that "patch" is used for PS 3, 4, Vita, and WiiU. Since we don't use the patch prefix on any of the PS versions, should the version number for WiiU not be just "2"? MajrTalk
Contribs
10:19, 29 January 2016 (UTC)

Hmm, I never noticed PS used the term "Patch" before. I guess the current version should just be "2" then, though that does seem a little empty of a version number comparatively when PS is on "1.22" right now. (and the other editions have either a TU or CU prefix) KnightMiner t/c 23:27, 29 January 2016 (UTC)

With how the majority of the topics here being "update to X version", would it be easier to add an /editcopy page for users to add updates to (then admins to copy over), or is a talk page easier? KnightMiner t/c 21:38, 4 February 2016 (UTC)
Personally, I think it would be better if cascading protection for this template would be turned off (topic above). -BDJP (t|c) 22:49, 4 February 2016 (UTC)
You can't just turn off cascading protection for a single template. MajrTalk
Contribs
00:09, 5 February 2016 (UTC)
I'm not really sure that maintaining an editcopy would make it any easier to notify admins - ultimately it's not actually changing the numbers in the template that is the problem (that doesn't take much time), it's just the admins being around often much later from when an update is released compared to when other editors see the update first. Then again making new topics or adding to old existing ones on the talk page doesn't really make much sense either so perhaps a dedicated page where requests can be made? GoandgooTalk

Maybe it would help if you change the permission which is necessary to edit this page to "directors"? Updated. Currently the only protection levels are everyone, autoconfirmed, and administrator. May I bump as well? On a related note, what's your source for version number 1.0.1? I haven't seen anything about the version number format for Switch Edition so far so I assumed it uses the same Patch format as the Wii U Edition. | violine1101(Talk) 16:40, 14 May 2017 (UTC)
(Bear in mind, I don't have a Switch; I had to use a friend's one to find it.) The version number can be found by going to System Settings, and then Data Management, and then clicking on the game title. The version number is visible just above the Archive Software button. -BDJP (t|c) 18:48, 14 May 2017 (UTC)
I don't own a Switch either, that's why I asked where you got the information from. If that number is visible like that in the system settings, that makes it official, I guess. Thanks! | violine1101(Talk) 19:48, 14 May 2017 (UTC)
As far as I can tell, according to the bug tracker the version number is written as Nintendo Switch Edition Patch 1. - ItsPlantseed.png ItsPlantseed | Book and Quill.png 20:50, 14 May 2017 (UTC)
Oh yeah, I should have checked the bug tracker earlier. It looks like 4J Studios refer to their updates as "Patch x" while the version is registered as "1.0.x" by the system. I guess we should use the "Patch" versions on the wiki as well to be consistent with the Wii U version? | violine1101(Talk) 21:35, 14 May 2017 (UTC)
The only real disadvantage that I would find with using "Patch x" is on the main page. If a version has a simultaneous release across all platforms, we'll end up having two "Patch x", which could end up being a problem for the reader. -BDJP (t|c) 22:05, 14 May 2017 (UTC)

┌──────────────────────────┘
I don't really see the problem there. It is clearly visible above a version number on the main page what edition it belongs to, isn't it? | violine1101(Talk) 09:52, 15 May 2017 (UTC)

Sorry about that. I meant that the disadvantage would be down in the Recent updates section on the main page (if the version hasn't been updated in this module). Same scenario as before. -BDJP (t|c) 10:11, 15 May 2017 (UTC)

I agree that this would be useful. However, the options for protection groups are defined in MediaWiki's LocalSettings.php file, which (for this wiki) only Curse staff have access to. Directors-level protection was an option at one point, but was lost during one of the MediaWiki upgrades over the years. -- Orthotopetalk 18:59, 19 May 2017 (UTC)

Console patch and new beta platforms[edit]

Please update the console editions to the patch that came out a few days ago.

Also, please add these lines, because there is now a beta program for the Windows 10 Edition and the upcoming Xbox One port of Bedrock, not just for Android anymore.

['windows10-snap'] = { '1.2 build 7', prefix = 'PE' },
['xbone-bsnap'] = { '1.2.0.20', prefix = 'PE' },

1.2.0.20 is the version that the Xbox One beta is currently on. It is a separate build from the Windows 10 and Android betas, in between build 6 and build 7. As a result of this, and the lack of an official name for this version of the beta besides the version number, the wiki hasn't gotten around to creating a page for the build. Although there will be another update to the beta soon which will hopefully be in line with the other versions this time as I've heard. Fo0dandDrug (talk) 15:29, 31 August 2017 (UTC)

Also update windowsphone to 1.1.5 full release, because it started getting updates again a while ago for Windows 10 Mobile only. Fo0dandDrug (talk) 16:50, 31 August 2017 (UTC)
Do you have a source for that weird version number for xbox one? If the console versions are going to start using their own version numbers like the legacy console edition, that's really going to screw up documenting them... For now I've just set it to the same as windows 10.
The thing with one of the Bedrock Xbox One beta builds being a different build than the one on other platforms has happened a couple of times in the past, I believe. I think it happens when they push out a build to one platform that takes a while to roll out the update, and then make some last minute changes and create a new build which gets pushed out to all the other platforms. SuperGeniusZeb (talk) 20:23, 4 October 2017 (UTC)
I don't believe windows phone is being updated. There is a separate windows 10 pocket edition that is being updated though, and that is under the generic windows 10 version number, since they have the same icon so there's no way to distinguish them. MajrTalk

The Windows Phone PE and the Windows 10 PE are the same app (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/p/minecraft-pocket-edition/9wzdncrdzsbb), but the updates past alpha are exclusive to W10M. Also, there is now the New Nintendo 3DS Edition, which is separate from the other editions, and the game's version number is set to 0.1.0. Fo0dandDrug (talk) 20:34, 14 September 2017 (UTC)
I uploaded images which can be used for Windows 10 Mobile. One has the word "Mobile" under the Windows icon, and is already in use on the homepage. The other has the word "Mobile" beside the Windows icon, and is in use in the infobox on Bedrock Edition. So Windows 10 Mobile should definitely be added to the version template now. Currently on the homepage, the Windows 10 Mobile latest version is just using the latest version number for Windows 10, which isn't really correct. SuperGeniusZeb (talk) 20:23, 4 October 2017 (UTC)

Using {{v|3ds=1}} outputs the page New Nintendo 3DS Edition version history#3ds-1.7.10 instead of New Nintendo 3DS Edition 1.7.10. Can this be changed? – Nixinova Grid Book and Quill.png Grid Diamond Pickaxe.png 18:39, 26 October 2018 (UTC)
