Creative Mode[]

I am unable to obtain blaze powder at all in creative mode, it doesn't appear in the inventory menu, when I put a blaze rod into a crafting table, nothing happens. Anyone else having this issue?

LordEcchi 14:58, 25 October 2011 (UTC)

CPU Usage[]

minecraft_server.jar consumes 100% CPU on Ubuntu 10.04.2 even when zero players are connected. This issue also existed on 1.9pre3 but not 1.8 (never tried pre1 or pre2). Update: Verified this occurs regardless of JVM (Open JDK or Sun Java).

    • this also happens with pre1 and 2. Confirmed using both 1.6 and 1.7 Sun JDK --Brotkastn 12:48, 17 October 2011 (UTC)

This behavior is not present when the server initially starts. After about 30 seconds, the java process then pegs at 100%. No users need to connect at all.

This behavior is present regardless of the map. E.g., even a newly generated map in 1.9-pre4 causes the java process to peg. But new maps seem to take longer to reach a constant of 100% utilization.

There is an open issue on the Mojang Get Satisfaction page for this... if you're experiencing this issue or have info to add, please take a look and upvote it (the +1). http://gsfn.us/t/2g2yl

I believe this isn't just a multiplayer problem. Mincraft 1.9 pre-releases seem to take up more processing power than 1.8.1 in general. BaroqueWolf 20:07, 14 October 2011 (UTC)
But 100% CPU usage when nobody is present on the server? That doesn't seem right. Or at least would be nice if the server had some way of telling you WHAT it's doing with all that CPU (if anything). CeeeKay 01:16, 15 October 2011 (UTC)
I can confirm that this problem exists under Windows XP with Service Pack 3 on an AMD-K7 tri-core processor while playing Single Player mode. On my machine, Minecraft (or rather, "Javaw.exe" running "Minecraft.jar") tries to use 100% of any and all available processors, causing a very minor amount of system instability. (In my case, XMPlay would on semi-rare occasion have a hiccup while playing music and the screen would blip ever-so-slightly.) However, on that same note, I've found a temporary workaround for this problem. This particular solution only works for Windows players, but I'm sure there's a version for MacOS and Linux users as well:
  • Run Minecraft. Don't log in yet.
  • Open the Windows Task Manager by right-clicking an open spot on the taskbar and clicking "Task Manager".
  • In the Task Manager, click the "Processes" tab and locate "JavaW.exe". Right-click it and select "Set Affinity..."
  • Deselect (uncheck) as many CPUs as you want, but leave at least one checked. Click OK.
  • Play Minecraft as usual. You should immediately see your CPU usage cut in half (or more, depending on how many cores you disabled) on JavaW.exe.
It's worth noting that the application is still using 100% CPU power, but it's only using 100% of however many CPUs you left selected, so it's overall much less of a load on your machine. I'm not sure if knocking back the Priority does anything, but it might be worth looking into as well. ~ Doc Lithius (Info|Chat|Edits) 15:23, 16 October 2011 (UTC)
Edit: After a little testing, I found if you do this before booting up Minecraft (logging in), the game doesn't freak out as badly. If you disabled CPUs while in mid-game, the game would hang for a while at a seemingly random moment. Sorry I neglected to mention this. ~ Doc Lithius (Info|Chat|Edits) 11:51, 18 October 2011 (UTC)

The game also seems to freeze upon receiving notifications via IMs such as Skype.

Mobs[]

Silverfish seem to act as a "Full Block" if surrounded by lava, so it does not flow on top of them. It being trapped, it will not walk into lava as other mobs would. (May be an already existing bug, or intentional) RossRoss 17:49, 13 October 2011 (UTC)

Parent animal follow and push their babies non stop Chaosmonkey45 23:18, 13 October 2011 (UTC)

Shooting arrows at passive mobs seems to crash java for some people. [1] (and deem the save unplayable until the arrow-entity shot towards passive mob is removed via map-edit. Have tried to "force" update java but still same result when shooting arrows. don't know is this just system related cause I have only one computer that can run minecraft)

In Creative Single Player when looking in the direction of a mob no blocks can be placed even if there are blocks in between the player and the mob. I think this is connected to the infinite reach when attacking mobs in creative. (which I assume is a feature)

(for 1.9 pre v5) Creepers don't attack you in "Creative Mode" in singleplayer (not sure if it is a bug!?)

Mobs still can't be attacked in the lower part of their bodies in SMP. I added the bug to the bug page, since it's well known and has been known for ages.

If I look at an Enderman it will teleport fairly far away instead of teleporting close by and attacking me. Seems to teleport in a random direction or even disappear entirely. Mtnbykerman 17:25, 27 October 2011 (UTC)mtnbykerman

No hostile mobs spawning on SMP.

When trying to build a snowgolmn in creative will sometimes not let me place it even when afewblocks away but still in range(note:I was in the end) Sacktrent

The limit for slimes to spawn under Y=16 has NOT been removed as stated in 1.9 pre 5. Discovered a slime chunk, and they still only spawn under Y=16

With the chickens dying bug, the chickens will crowd any door, gate, or solid (non-fence) block to the point of taking damage. That's why they die. There was a ? next to that bug but it is a common problem when trying to pin in any chickens. kaonevar 208.84.137.91 13:14, 1 November 2011 (UTC)

On slimes, they often are spawning on one y access point but visually showing up on another y access point with a glitch that makes them hard to kill. If you attack them where you "see" them, you can't hit them. If you attack them where they actually are (and show up invisible), then you can hit and kill them. Makes hunting slimes and killing them quite difficult. kaonevar 208.84.137.91 13:14, 1 November 2011 (UTC)

My herd of sheep I had fenced in next to my house, started killing themselves by jumping and taking damage. One of them managed to get glitched on top of my roof and die.

Landscape/Seed generation[]

On my map (randomly generated) it looks like there are random clumps of blocks (maybe 5-10 blocks) randomly floating in the air off the side of a cliff. This may just be a seed generation thing for that particular seed, but either way it looks unrealistic. RossRoss 17:43, 13 October 2011 (UTC)

What's the seed and coordinates? (Press F3) --96.49.116.92 02:31, 14 October 2011 (UTC)

  • The randomly growing plants (flowers and tall grass) are growing in snowy biomes, removing the snow.--[iNf}INITE 13:22, 14 October 2011 (UTC)

On two different random maps I found big terrain missmatch at point near world center. Whole 1/4 of the world (from point 0,0 to at least 1000,0 and 0,1000) looks like it was generated using different seed for terrain and biomes. I can't post seed for this worlds - I played hardcore and world is deleted now, but it was random negative seed.

why when you look underwater does it look like some one painted circles with sand clay and dirt it just does not look normal thare all the same shape some bigger but it just feel to much man made

i got a complain about a bug happenin since 1.9 pre release 1 and its reusing seeds i have generated a new world with no seed in each of the 1.9 pre releases and it generates same world even sometimes with some things i blew up with tnt and it just changes the spawn area. friday, october 28,2011

After the 1.9 pre-release 5 I can walk at night on hard difficult and I don´t see any mobs.(is this a bug or configuration problems?)

The End[]

Doesn't seem to be any mobs, I thought endermen were meant to live here? Either a bug or they are not meant to be there. (I know "the end" is not finished, this may be why they do not appear for me?) RossRoss 17:16, 13 October 2011 (UTC)

Cannot create a nether portal within "The End". Possible bug, maybe intentional. RossRoss 17:22, 13 October 2011 (UTC)

(Also a Sound Point) The "dark cave space" noises as I call it, are appearing in "The End". Not sure if it is intentional seen as the walls/void are there and it is picking up on that. RossRoss 17:30, 13 October 2011 (UTC)

Ice doesn't seem to melt from putting torches/glowstone next to it in "The End"

Edit - In some instances it does melt, but the water does not flow from its original position. RossRoss 17:30, 13 October 2011 (UTC)

Strange particle effect whilst dropping into the void of "The End". Again, maybe intentional, but it looked quite glitchy. RossRoss 17:37, 13 October 2011 (UTC)

after putting in 12 "eyes of ender" into "the end" portal frame, no portal appeared. tried various things to get it to open up, nothing worked so far. 99.8.150.11 03:50, 16 October 2011 (UTC)

  • Have never had an issue fixing a portal to the end. The only portal problem i've had is making one to get back home from "The End". Without NPCs in "The End" there is no way to obtain or make a portal home. 96.54.8.155 05:11, 19 October 2011 (UTC)

Dying resets your original spawn to a random location. Sleeping in a bed before entering the portal does save you to that bed, but original spawn still changes. rush247 22:40 10/16/2011

  • Jumping off "The End" kills you and changes your original spawn location to random spot in normal world. Haven't tried beds but this orginal spawn location change is annoying as finding where you were previously is next to impossible. 96.54.8.155 05:11, 19 October 2011 (UTC)

A rare occasion could be that your platform upon entering The End will not spawn above the The End. http://filesmelt.com/dl/2011-10-27_16.08_.51_.png http://filesmelt.com/dl/2011-10-27_16.09_.02_.png

Planting a tree in the end then using bone meal on it causes the sapling "ghost" to be there, and the tree is not. However you can see the grid lines and collision of the tree is there (Invisible). Updating the tree by destroying a block near it or something fixes it.

Out of memory[]

Falling to the Void will cause a "Out of memory" error.

I fell out of void couple of times in SMP, and didn't cause any problems. xPaw 15:00, 13 October 2011 (UTC)
: Oh sorry, i mean falling to the void while you are in "The ender". --186.92.198.109 15:06, 13 October 2011 (UTC)
: : I have fallen (Jumped) off "The End" many times and never received an out of memory error even if my computer is lagging because of extreme CPU usage. 96.54.8.155 05:14, 19 October 2011 (UTC)

No End[]

When using the 1.9 pre-release 5 minecraft_server.jar The End completely dissapears and all that is there is the spawn pad.

I am also getting this problem.--Joeldamole789 15:31, 30 October 2011 (UTC)

-The End is still there, but you get teleported to coordinates that correspond to your real-world position. The End island is around the 0,0 world center, so if you were far from it when you teleported, you will find yourself over an empty void. 149.43.222.121 21:28, 2 November 2011 (UTC)

Sound[]

No chest noise RossRoss 15:40, 13 October 2011 (UTC)

sounds weren't for the pre versions... it isn't a bug but intentional holding off. also the other pre releases were soundless chests too. 96.13.106.143 16:44, 13 October 2011 (UTC)

In creative mode I double tapped to fly, and the rain noise seemed to stop when I went around 10+ high, I returned to ground to see if the sound came back and it didn't. RossRoss 17:38, 13 October 2011 (UTC)

In single player survival mode, there's no longer any sound played when placing a door. 178.174.128.240 15:23, 14 October 2011 (UTC)

In single player survival mode, when I'm breaking or placing stone or sandstone blocks, I sometimes hear the sound of getting wool with shears instead of the sound of the block breaking/being placed

Items[]

Ender Eye doesn't seem to work properly, takes you no where (Been at this for like 15 minutes now) - It's just a normal cave system. Digging a massive hole right where it is landing (the 20 block radius) and nothing is here. (Needs confirming) RossRoss 15:52, 13 October 2011 (UTC)

Uh i have seen jeb using it. It will fall not too far from where you throw it, it just points the way, does not lead directly to the stronghold. When it changes direction, then you know you are close, and if it looks like it is pointing to just one area, then you will know that's it!--Gil2455526 18:45, 13 October 2011 (UTC)
I have also seen Jeb use it in the livestream, but if I remember rightly, he was in 1.9 pre 3, not 4. And I went to the location where it sends me, as you have said, but when I dig down, there is no stronghold or obvious lead to one. RossRoss 19:21, 13 October 2011 (UTC)
Since the game has no way of actually checking for the nearest stronghold, it bases the location on the seed. If your map was generated in an older version of mc or if your seed has changed it might explain your problem. --71.11.193.135 02:34, 15 October 2011 (UTC)

Maps cause saving chunks error when rendering a certain block. Not sure which. Lukesoccer21 16:18, 13 October 2011 (UTC)

They sometimes explode. And even then, doesent point to anything.

Jeb said they, sometimes, could go back to The End...--Gil2455526 18:45, 13 October 2011 (UTC)

Anytime I use the Fire Resistance potion to jump into a pool of lava, fall damage is taken either when I swim out of the lava or let myself sink to the bottom of the lava pool. It's obviously fall damage because the damage I receive is equal to the damage I would receive by simply jumping off onto solid ground from the same height. Persephoneia 7:05, 14 October 2011 (UTC)

I have observed this behavior, it seems to be a bug whereupon the fall distance variable begins counting even though you're not falling at maximum speed. Xirema 23:28, 15 October 2011 (UTC)

If you have an enchanted item andd you drop it, when you pick it up the enchantment remains. But when you destroy a chest with the enchanted item inside, the item drops but the enchantment is gone!

Placing Pictures
Details: If you build a X1 wall and place a picture on one side you cannot place another picture on the other side where the first picture over laps.
System: Windows 7, 1.9 Pre-Release 5

Bug name: Workbench Texture
Details: Textures of the workbench facing north and west always show as the "Front". When placed against a wall with a block next to it the textures don't flip to show.
System: Windows 7, 1.9 Pre-Release 5

Bug Name: Some Items Don't Swap
Details: The tools (swords, axes, picks, and shovels; maybe hoes, I haven't tried) and armor do not swap with themselves. If you click on one so that you have it as your mouse cursor and the click on another of the same item they do not switch places. It happens whether the items are in general inventory, hotkey panel, armor slots, or chests. It leads to the irritation of lots of extra clicks to pick up an item, put it down, and pick up the other. When compounded by the (presumably) common habit of keeping certain items (say, tools) and their backup versions in particular slots (say hotkey items 1-4 and then the inventory slots directly above those), it results in a minimum of seven mouse clicks (if you use a third item to help swap them). It is irritating because all other items obey the click-to-swap function.
System: Windows7 x64, 1.9pre5

Bug Name: Glass Panes Details: When breaking a glass pane you do not get it back. Once you break it, it is destroyed.

Portal[]

Entering in a ender portal just take 1 miliseocond to enter, unlike the nether portal, not sure if its a bug. --186.92.198.109 15:56, 13 October 2011 (UTC)

I doubt it's a bug. If it took time to travel then you would just fall thru it and die in the lava being as the portal is horizontal and you fall thru it instead of vertical and you stand in it. 217.129.86.249 16:05, 13 October 2011 (UTC)

First stronghold found legitimately in survival mode, using the eyes, ended up bisected with a mineshaft and several caves, and had NO portal room, despite the fact that the eyes were leading me there and there only. Eyes of ender take you to the nearest generated stronghold despite the fact that it hasnt got a portal.

Placing lava ontop of lava[]

You can place lava (And maybe water) ontop of other lava blocks. It is realy annoying in creative when filling in an area with lava and it creates a 2 high stack of it.

Placing water on top of another water block doesn't merge the two anymore, either. As you said, kind of annoying, especially since water (and lava) are not solid blocks! ~ Doc Lithius (Info|Chat|Edits) 15:26, 16 October 2011 (UTC)
You can place water on top of lava, too. The water just treats the lava as a solid block. At least, it does when they're both moving. 24.188.96.40 14:37, 28 October 2011 (UTC)

Multiplayer[]

Tried this out, died, respawned at my bed like normal 6:24pm PST 13th Oct
Never respawn by my bed for any reasons - anyways, we found an interesting fact. What I mentioned as skydimension was an area which really was a skydimension generation, but by walking to the coordinates the spawn was set to (for any reasons), it was connected to the "normal" overworld. So may this has to be specified (and / or bether researched by me). It's an 1.9 Pre3 World after the change to 1.9 Pre4. Will try to simulate this again as soon as I have time to set up another server in another environment. Shadow_CH 22:56 14th Oct (UTC)

  • There are still no baby animals in multiplayer Shadow_CH 18:43 13th Oct (UTC)
  • The floating galactic letters from bookshelves to the enchantment table are missing in SMP. Oct 16th 12:49pm (PST)
  • If you have an enchanted item in your inventory, and switch to Creative mode, the enchanted item will show up on top of the other items in the Creative item menu. Musketeer925 01:28, 25 October 2011 (UTC)
  • Breaking the furthest block available to break above your head will cause the block to visually break but reappear a few moments later and not drop an item. You have to get closer to the block for it to actually break.
  • [NEW] Minecarts that are not on the track when the chunk loads fall through the blocks below them and glitch out causing some lag until broken. RustyDagger

Full-screen on Linux[]

Full-screen mode (F11) fails on all 1.9preX versions on Ubuntu Linux 11.04 with nVidia drivers: Instead of expanding to full-screen (as it did in 1.8.x and before), the window only expands to the top and bottom Gnome panels, hiding relevant content (including the hotbar) behind the bottom panel. Bigfootsbigfoot 20:36, 13 October 2011 (UTC)

I'm using openSUSE 11.4 with KDE and nVidia drivers and since Beta 1.9 prerelease I only get "Saving level.." and then the game menu when I try to use F11. Afterwards I can't load any world even if I return to the window view with F11. It only shows "Saving level.." and returns to the game menu. --Obi-Wahn 21:57, 16 October 2011 (UTC)

Gravel in Nether[]

Upon entering a newly generated Nether in hardcore mode, I found some Gravel. Lighting Issues[]

Sometimes in new chunks there are lighting issues. Doing something to update the lighting fixes it. Stone brick stairs have got strange lighting. The higher step is darker than the lower.

Redstone repeater are way to dark if not activated. This appears, if they are placed beside a wall and on free field too. The sunlight level was 0 in both cases.

Black and white flickering on Mobs and the player arm occur when playing Minecraft on a Windows XP machine. If you have a really high fps then it's not as noticeable because it flickers so fast. All 7 of the Windows XP computers I've tested this on have it.

Potion effect naming[]

Potion of Harming's text "Instant Damage" is missing the "I" at the end (Instant Damage I) to represent that it is level 1, however It's level 2 variant's title is correct (Instant Damage II)

Same with Potion of Swiftness (Speed (3:00)). Possibly not a bug? --10.0.0.124 09:38, 14 October 2011 (UTC)

Experience[]

I got experience every single time I jumped, probably a bug ^^ It usually happens in the nether Nick63 06:42, 15 October 2011 (UTC)Nick63

This should have only affected 1.9pre3 and removed in 1.9pre4

I have 1.9pre4 and this is a problem in the regular world. It occurs every time that I jump. I have not checked to see if the same thing happens in the Nether. [Noted by theMillerBoy]

Sun moving from south to north[]

Not only is the sun round now, but it appears to be rising in the south and setting in the north! Can someone confirm this?Captain Chaos 15:58, 14 October 2011 (UTC)

Notch intentionally made the sun round and he tweeted "Aaaand now the sun rises in the east."(http://twitter.com/#!/notch/status/124414532847284224) meaning that was what he intended east and west to be. BaroqueWolf 20:19, 14 October 2011 (UTC)
What we consider east has always supposed to have been north (+Z is south, and +X is east). Third party mods and tools that indicate direction should update accordingly. Tahg 21:19, 14 October 2011 (UTC)
Well this got a lot more confusing now.--Neil2250 16:01, 19 October 2011 (UTC)

Torch Issues[]

When I place a painting near a torch and its a big painting it will be behind the torch and the torch won't fall. I don't know if this is only in multiplayer but i think its in both.

I was destroying columns of gravel quickly by breaking them and immediately placing a torch underneath, however about 3 times the torch was just placed and the gravel balanced on it like it does if you had placed the torch first...

Silk Touch[]

Monster Spawners retrieved using the Silk Touch enchantment only spawn Pigs. I doubt notch would want to devalue breeding/food so it's somewhat major. --71.11.193.135 02:31, 15 October 2011 (UTC)

Potions Brewing Crashing Bug[]

Well, When having 2 people view a brewing stand and one person puts a water bottle in the bottle section then puts a netherrwart to start the potion brewing, the person who was veiwing but not doing anything crashes, genericreason apparently.

Reproducing steps:

1. Get 2 People

2. Have one person get a water bottle and a netherwart, along with a brewing stand

3. Have both people interacting with the stand, then have one person start the brewing as explained above.

4. The person "viewing" the brewing (Who did NOT add anything to the brewing stand) Should crash.

Walking[]

Occasionally, I've found that my character will take off walking in a random direction until I push the button(s) the direction he moves. This has caused me to die at least twice.

EDIT: my level just loaded after a 25 minuute wait.

I get that at times where it says 0.0 MB, but I've never had a problem with my world loading. BaroqueWolf 16:41, 15 October 2011 (UTC)

I got the same problem but it loads normally

Double door sleeping, cave sleeping[]

If you try to sleep in a house with a double door to the outside and both doors appear closed, you'll be woken by a monster. Apparently you need to leave the right-hinged door "open" (see Door#Double door)

I've slept behind double doors several times and never experienced this. I place my doors from the outside. Pareidolon 00:29, 20 October 2011 (UTC)

~~ I created a 5x8 room, 3 tall. dug out a 3x3deep,wide, 2 tall alcove, placed a bed with the head at the middle of on side and the foot even with the room. a torch was placed every 4 tiles in the room, but none in the alcove. sleeping in that bed would always cause a mob spawn. Torches[]

If you destroy the block below a torch, it destroys the torch but doesn't drop it as an item. I'll check if it also happens with is on the side of a block. NB doesn't happen all the time, reloading seems to have fixed it for now JamesGardiner 11:53, 16 October 2011 (UTC)

Some Leaf-Blocks dont decay[]

When cutting trees some of the associated leaf blocks dont decay. Some do and some not. Please check if right.

I have this issue too — MiiNiPaaT|C 18:04, 16 October 2011 (UTC)
Have seen this as well. CeeeKay 17:00, 17 October 2011 (UTC)
May have to do with how player placed leaf blocks do not decay anymore.
they wont decay if there is wood near by like a tree.
leaf blocks placed by Endermen do not decay too...
I've seen it where they visually decay but when you try to walk, you can't because the leaves are still physically there until disconnect/reconnect. This is in SMP. kaonevar

EXP In The End are black if no light is provided[]

It seems that if there is no light sorce, all EXP dropped by endermen is pure black.

Sometimes the delete function doesn't delete all files. In one particular instance it saved the main folder, the region folder, and (of 7 files) r.0.-1.mcr and r.-1.-1.mcr which are both only kilobytes of data (regions on the periphery of my world). Pareidolon 19:27, 16 October 2011 (UTC)

This has happened to me playing in hardcore after dying and im exploring and i come across one of my previous houses

Focus-box Bugs[]

Ladders cause a bug where the focus will stick on them, the black box will strobe on and off. If you're trying to mine ladders you may break the block behind them; if you're trying to mine or place a block next to the one they're on, you may be unable to focus on it.

Fences (such as in abandoned mineshafts) act as full blocks, prohibiting you from targeting blocks or hitting mobs behind them, and they may obstruct partly to the side of these boxes as well, from a diagonal angle. What's worse (in combat at least) is that you can move or be pushed inside a fence box, face away from it, and the fence behind you will absorb all your hits. Pareidolon 19:58, 16 October 2011 (UTC)

Mobs drawn into a corner formed by two blocks can be easily hit from the other side (in past versions you could do this, but they needed to be sticking a good amount through the corner; now you can hurt them without even seeing them). Pareidolon

I'm not getting Pareidolon's problem but I've only used fences as corrals for animals so far. The hitbox for fences seem to be working fine for me except for fence gates which have a full block hitbox. They should be smaller like fences are now. 68.189.148.32 06:12, 21 October 2011 (UTC) dsmith77 a.t gmail, using beta 1.9 prerelease 4

Death Bug[]

While riding in a boat, it floated onto a half-stone that was at the same level as the water (so the top half of the stone was below the water line) and then I instantly died. I had had full health and there was nothing below or above for over a dozen blocks. I was facing south when this happened in single player.

Weird Terrain[]

It looks like a bulldozer went over this area. It's like this all around this one NPC village. Possibly a bug with village generation. [1] [2] [3] Pareidolon 07:24, 17 October 2011 (UTC)

11:43 10-17-2011 | i dont think its a bug, probably more of a feature as it makes the terrain more different an varying. the fact that a village was created next to it doesnt make it a bug, sorry. exposed flat stone areas were also part of the older map generator algorithms, so dont worry. :)

I've seen this since 1.2, i call them small "desolate" biomes ;D (Nothing new.)--Neil2250 16:01, 19 October 2011 (UTC)

Breaking Storage Minecart with Sword Removes Enchantments[]

If you place an enchanted item in a Storage Minecart and then break the minecart with a sword, your items will drop but all the enchantments will be gone. VictorTyne 21:34, 17 October 2011 (UTC)

I have also seen this when breaking chests containing enchanted items 03:09, 18 October 2011 (UTC)NateNiph

I have confirmed the storage minecart glitch and repeated the storage chest glitch. Recommend posting this to bug list

Ghast fireball[]

I built a stair from alternating gravel and torches in SMP. A ghast fired and hit me on it, but no blocks were destroyed. Don't know if it's a bug or just good luck. Fett0001 04:41, 18 October 2011 (UTC)

Rain[]

I get tremendous lag in SMP while it's raining. Using fast graphics and no smooth lighting. Fett0001 04:41, 18 October 2011 (UTC)

Huge Ocean Bug[]

I think it can be confirmed as a bug: when reached -3000, -3000 generator creates only a huge ocean... It is marked as [?] in bug list, but i can provide screenshots to prove it. The farthers coordinates i reached was around -5000 -5000 - didn't try any further. Curiously enough, underground structures, like mineshafts and ravines generated normally. No underwater villages found ;)

-This is not a bug. Ocean biomes are coded to be gigantic, exceeding 10,000 blocks in width. 149.43.222.121 02:33, 4 November 2011 (UTC)

Swamp Froze Over?[]

Just updated from 1.8.1 to 1.9pre4 and all the water in my swamp biome just froze over solid. Incidently this ice does not melt if I put a torch next to it either... --Ghilz 10:01, 18 October 2011 (UTC)

happened to me too. took about 1000 blocks before i found an area that was less frozen up.

The biome generation code changed from 1.8 to 1.9 so your old 1.8 world is now a snow biome in 1.9. The popular sky block Challenge map has the same issue. Not a bug. 68.189.148.32 06:17, 21 October 2011 (UTC) dsmith77 a.t gmail

Wrong location bug[]

Okay I keep getting this error in the console when playing minecraft on my minecraft server with "more ram". What I did was run windows vista's command prompt in admin mode to use the command as stated when running the Prerelease 1.9 server jar. ("java -Xmx1024M -Xms1024M -jar minecraft_server.jar" is what I used) The thing is about this error is when you close the server after you have placed some blocks, built some structure, that the server reverts your changes back to the original save file. Its as if you never did anything to your world. This bug may also corrupt your save file as well. I posted the series of error messages below that were outputted into my command prompt. This message appears many times while running the minecraft server. My minecraft map name is The Overworld 19 Pre4, same directory as the server.jar file. It may be due to the fact that this map was originally created in 1.8 and then I ported it into 1.9 pre. --66.222.144.61 04:20, 19 October 2011 (UTC)

First error message:

"Chunk file at -17,-13 is in the wrong location; relocating. (Expected -17, -13,got -11, -7)"

Second error message: Occasionally this one occurs, and this is when the save file gets corrupted. This happens MANY times, i only posted 3 of them but they're all the same anyways, There was so many of them that the command prompt ran out of room. So I don't know if there is any preceding error message before this.

Fire Protection[]

I've found that Fire Protection I (on an iron chestplate) fully protects from fire and lava while I am standing in it, but as soon as I step out of the fire/lava if I remain on fire I take damage as normal (not, as the bugs list says for potions, tons of damage at once). I haven't had the opportunity to test it against ghast/blaze fireballs. Pareidolon 23:50, 19 October 2011 (UTC)

Slowness effect doesn't apply when climbing[]

While speed effect does seem to improve speed on ladders, swimming upstream and when flying, slowness does not. This also applies to the eating speed (so you can eat while moving full speed on a ladder). Pareidolon 00:29, 20 October 2011 (UTC)

You don't see potion effect markings from new view[]

Pressing F5 twice (view of self/front) eliminates the potion effect indicators (sparkles, or whatever you call them). Pareidolon 00:29, 20 October 2011 (UTC)

Experience drop bug[]

Every time i die and retrieve my experience i get more than i had before. probably a bug related to enchanted items because i think i wore some of them, but not quite sure. please check for yourself, thanks. [10-20-2011]

Well everytime I die, at least half my exp is lost - unfindable in the death area. Enchanted items don't do anything - they just drop and can be picked up again, keeping their charms. (vers 1.9.4) --88.75.220.11 18:36, 22 October 2011 (UTC)
Well, it relates to enchanting. Enchanting a item uses your levels but not XP! So if you have level 100 and die, you will collect enought XP from your dead body to became lvl 50. If you lvl 100 and use 70 levels to enchant some tools and die, you still collect 50 lvl XP worth — MiiNiPaaT|C 14:50, 23 October 2011 (UTC)

Attack Distance Bug[]

In the nether, I am able to attack from a very far distance and damage/kill mobs.

You can damage to entities (mobs are entities) from far distance if you are on creative. If you were on survival, that's quiet odd thing. Kevin J Rattman 11:14, 20 October 2011 (UTC)

Huge ocean after -3000?[]

First, sorry about bad english if you found it, It says after a -3000 blocks in x,z axis, it only generates endless ocean. I tried it, and it's not endless ocean, I found a island with trees and normal thing. My coordinate was -3100 for x and -3000 for z. So I thought I have to go further. When I arrived on -3540 for x and -3650 for z, I found another desert biome island. as well as with forest and some lakes. I keep going further, but no endless ocean, only but more lands. with very normal looks. I think 'Endless ocean bug' was just coincidence. But still, the bug still needs more confirm. Kevin J Rattman 11:15, 20 October 2011 (UTC)

  • could You Please include a seed You use? I did also found some islands along my journey, even an arctic one, there was very small however. (My seed was "Giewont" (without quotation marks))
  • Well, I checked the "Giewont" seed on 1.8.1. I went to the locations i took screenshots on 1.9pre4 and... There was no oceans. Just usual, normaly generated terrain, with biomes mountains and so on. So, there is something terribly wrong with the world generator on 1.9. I compared words generated with 1.8.1 and 1.9 in few positions (i wrote down easily recognizable locations and their coordinates) so i'm pretty sure, that to some point both generators create the same world
  • A number of people have found seemingly endless oceans. It's intentional that they can be tens of thousands of meters long. It would be a bug if every seed at -3000,-3000 had an ocean though. I found an ocean at least 1000 m around with the appropriately-named seed HARDCORE. Pareidolon 22:45, 20 October 2011 (UTC)
  • Well, I would like to include seed but, I used random seed (leave blank) to generate world. (I was in creative mod.)But according to debug screen (F3) on world, seed is 2374298652015651876. I hope the seed work well. I mean, I heard that debug screen seed doesn't work very well, :P. Kevin J Rattman 15:29, 21 October 2011 (UTC)
  • Hell, you want to talk about "endless oceans"? Try the seed "Mojang AB". You start on a little crescent island absolutely surrounded by nothing but water for quite some ways. Good times... ~ Doc Lithius (Info|Chat|Edits) 18:49, 21 October 2011 (UTC)

Gates eat wheat[]

So if you're holding a wheat and you right-click a gate to open it, the gate will also take your held wheat. I can't imagine that this is intentional seeing as it makes no sense - wooden gates do not eat and you don't need to drop your wheat to open one. The first time I tried this there were animals around and while no animals had gone into love mode I thought it was possible that an animal could have taken it somehow even from a distance. So I replicated the bug to make absolutely sure it was a gate block that took the wheat.

The same doesn't seem to apply to any other block, such as doors or cobblestone. Only gates seem to be affected.

I hope this hasn't already been mentioned and if it has I apologise, I did search for it using the search feature and the browser's find feature.

Terrain generation-related bugs[]

Yes, I know that fixing these bugs by modifying the terrain generation would technically be considered a "feature", but bugs are bugs, and it would be improper for these bugs to remain in the official release.

Here's some:

  • The terrain generation for NPC Villages is very awkward. The village roads are very often bumpy with sand and gravel where they don't belong, and sand tends to bury houses too. Ravines can ruin villages, and they very often, in my experience, do. Sometimes stairs are missing, making it hard to get into the houses.
    • Potential solution: Make villages their own biome. Mojang has expressed interest in doing such a thing (making it a feature) but doing this would still fix all the bugs that the villages have.
  • Abandoned mineshafts don't mix well with other features. The absolute worst thing that they can do is overwrite Eye of Ender pedestals, making it impossible to get to The End in that stronghold. This is a pain since there are only three, and getting to the next one would be hell thanks to the Eye of Ender pointing to the broken one. They have also annoyingly intersected ravines. Now, the idea of a mineshaft intersecting a ravine sounds cool in theory, because it makes me think about the wooden plank floor stretching across the ravine to connect the mineshaft. But now, it's terrible-looking. The abandoned mineshaft's wooden beams float in midair across the ravine. That looks ridiculous, and it's not even "ha ha" ridiculous.
  • Nether Fortresses' cave entrances in the bridge parts, are, as stated in the article, not ensured to be cleared of blocks in generation. That's just weird considering they do that within the fortresses.

Pre-release 5[]

Posted this in a few other discussion pages...
1.9 pre 5 is now out: http://twitter.com/#!/jeb_/statuses/129568296600219648
Update this page accordingly, with a link to a new known bugs page? Idk how it should be laid out, or even if I can make a new page, so yeah... :P

Snow Biome + Tree Bug and Lava-lake Bug[]

There is no snow/ice block under and on trees in Snow Biomes generated. Happens with Pre5, don't know if already longer existing.

The Generator still places Lava-lakes under Water.

Creative-Inventory + F3-Usage-table Bug + Wrong MEM-Usage shown in F3[]

1. Activate F3 and open Creative Inventory. If you scroll down the background of the CPU-Time-Usage-Table (right bottom) disappears. Seems to happen if you see the "Golden Apple" with its graphical effects in the Inventory.

2. The MEM-Usage of java is much higher then shown in Minecraft. While Minecraft says "Used: 200 MB, Allocated: 325MB" the Task-Manager says about 800MB

The F3 memory figure is probably heap memory. Not only does the JVM need a certain amount of memory for other things, but JNI objects are free to do their own unmanaged memory allocations Frymaster 15:58, 27 October 2011 (UTC)

Generate Structures OFF still generates Dungeons![]

Anybody notice that if they turn off generated structures (which lists Villages, Dungeons, etc), dungeons are still in the maps? 72.93.203.122 15:46, 27 October 2011 (UTC)

Minecraft ladder get remove by placing water[]

if you place a bucket of water of lava when you are in 1 3x3 mine shaft when your climbing a ladder the ladder will be erased and it will not drop an item at all even when you try to place it under with the ladder 1 block above u the same thing will happen

Rain everywhere[]

When you log in a SMP Server where it's currently raining, the rain GFX seems to be everywhere. Even if you are at the bottom layer of the world. Bug goes away once the rain stops.

Minecarts[]

  • Minecarts no longer push each other on East-West movement. Instead, they overlap each other. STrRedWolf 00:44, 28 October 2011 (UTC)
  • Coal-powered minecarts no longer push other minecarts. This may be related to the above bug. STrRedWolf 00:44, 28 October 2011 (UTC)
  • Using a detector track to power a powered track when climbing up a hill makes the minecart get stuck on the powered track. Farrit 4:52 PM, 29 October 2011 (EST)

Water Dripping[]

Water dripping through a single stone/dirt/sandstone block below it makes sense, but water should not be able to drip through "made" blocks like glass, bricks, stone bricks, etc.

This is not a bug. This is intended.

Floating after getting blown up by creeper[]

I got blown up by a creeper ,then I started floating, and I could float into blocks in survival mode.

Signs[]

Sings seem to have a lighting issue. They are completely black (much like the paintings) depending on where you look at them from. Anybody else have this issue?--129.12.149.27 16:21, 28 October 2011 (UTC)

Wooden half blocks are made of stone[]

Wooden Half Blocks can only be mined with a pickaxe. They also don't burn or do anything when placed in the fuel section of a furnace.

Torches and Water[]

If water is allowed to run straight down and it hits a torch on a wall along the water's path, the torch is destroyed, but not dropped as an item.

Spiders floating up walls[]

Spiders float up walls with only their two front legs touching them. They should rotate to vertical when climbing.

Armour in boats[]

While wearing armour in a boat, the armour's legs aren't updated to the sitting position and stick out of the bottom of the boat.

Rain has no sound and ground effect in the Extreme Hills biome[]

Sound and effect will be played at the edges of the biome but if you move further in the sound will fade away and the rain will no longer have a splash effect on the ground. All the gameplay effect of the rain are still present though (Putting out fires, faster wheat grow).

NPC villages on hills[]

NPC village farms spawning on hilly terrain can have the farms spawn with half of them higher than the other. This causes water to flow out of its trench and flood other farms downhill. NPC houses spawning on hills can have doorways high in the air (6 blocks). The side of the house facing into the hill has windows which look out on dirt blocks. This causes the window pane to attach to the dirt block in a T shape.

Paintings causing interaction issues.[]

If there is a painting within reach and behind the crosshair, even if it is behind other blocks, when trying to interact with a block in front of the painting, you cannot interact with that block, and only interact with the painting behind it. (kind of hard to explain) I've noticed this in creative, don't know about survival. Say there is a painting on a wall parallel to (and on the other side of) a door you are trying to open. If that painting is within the crosshair, you will not be able to open the door until the crosshair does not cover the painting. Also, if you remove the door with the painting behind the crosshair, the painting will be removed as well. --DarkFlame588 17:30, 29 October 2011 (UTC)

NPC Villages and Mines are Intersected by Caves[]

Through every prerelease of 1.9 (pre5 included), each time I find a village, it has gaping holes in the terrain running through it. These are either large elongated canyon things or entrances to caverns. It screws up the placements of things in the town and often eats some of the town's roads. I have found Testificate hanging out at the bottom of a cave, next to a cube-shaped room filled with chests and a mob generator. He had clearly fallen into the cave and wandered there.

I have not found a mine in pre5 yet but I did find a couple in pre4. They were likewise turned into swiss cheese by being intersected by caverns. Wooden mine structures were hanging in mid-air in between two openings in a cave wall that are clearly sections of a mine. Individual blocks of stone or dirt were also hanging in midair here and there, some with a piece of minecart track on them. In other places, mineshafts that were close together would be opened up to one another due to an intersecting cave. If caves and mines must intersect, it would make more sense if the mines tended to utilize the caves by turning to follow and modify them upon reaching one. Or at least they could include wooden walkways between gaping holes in the cave walls where a mine enters and exits. That way it would not look like the miners magically floated across the cave from one part of the mineshaft to another, leaving bits of track and wooden braces floating as they went.

Oversided Chest Bug - Client Crash[]

This is a 1.8.1 bug that has persisted to the current version.

If you create a chest using an editor (such as worldedit, or MCedit) that is any size other than 1x2 or 1x1, it will only display a 1x2 block. The remaining blocks will be invisible (though they will still have a selection box). Interacting with them will cause any nearby clients to crash to a light blue screen (not a windows BSOD).

Snow spawned in snowfall breaking non-solid blocks[]

Up to 1.9 Pre4, non-solid items such as torches, rails, redstone, and plants are destroyed by snow spawned by snowfall. While this makes sense with plants and to a lesser degree, torches, destroying things like rail and redstone (and probably signs as well) is disastrous. Fortunately, this issue appears to be fixed in 1.9 Pre5 (Thanks Jeb!!) I tested torches, rails and saplings (didn't have redstone to test yet) in snowfall and snow quickly spawned all around them, but not top or overwriting them.
