This page is for reporting bugs in the Beta 1.9pre1 version, if you think you have found a bug, put it under the appropriate topic under 'In discussion'. Please use the search function of your browser to avoid duplicate topics. Do not use external image sites to host your picture files. Upload them to this wiki if you have an account.

Note: An increase in experience when jumping and the lack of repeated jumps while holding the jump button ARE NOT BUGS[1][2]. Please stop reporting these.

As for the request to rename this page to "Known bugs/Version 1.9" would be incorrect as the current release of Beta 1.9 is not official and is a Pre-Release.

In discussion[edit]

  • If running 64 Bit Java, when you create a new world it closes and leaves an error text file in you folder which has minecraft in it.
  • SEVERE CRASH BUG: pretty much every advanced piston creation now leads t an null pointer exception and an instant game chrash. here is an example: File:MINECRAFT_SEVERE_CHRASH_BUG.png
  • Upon starting a game in Server Creative, opening my inventory crashes my client unless I first pick up a block that is placed into my inventory (not main action bar). Unsure if local files are corrupted or if it's my player.dat or what.
  • My game crashes every time I try to create a new world. It says "Switching Level" then proceeds to close the client. Any suggestions? --Whybanme12345 14:58, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
    Same problem for me
  • My Minecraft just crashes and refuses to render a world.
Also true for me. Creative and Survival worlds both will not render, and close the client immediately. An error report appears on the desktop.*
If you are running on Java, you need Java 7 to run it correctly, I was having the same problem until I downloaded Java 7
Downloaded Java 7, still fails to generate level and crashes.
I am running Java 6 update 26 and have not experienced any issues. Killerkerara 17:51, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
  • When i lanch my save I see "saving chuncks" and after a black screen and I must quit the game.
I had this issue but updating to java 7 (64 bit) fixed it
  • The game black screens whenever 'video settings' button is pressed. Occurs at any point you can access options screen (SSP, SMP, main menu). Machine is running OS X 10.6.8 with Java 6 64 bit, and the error message shown on console is:
  java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException: 3

  • Upon opening a world, I am shown a black screen with my hotbar or whatever it's called (yet no health, food or XP bars). The items in the bar appear, all's fine and well, then boom, Minecraft closes. Burnmad 00:54, 27 September 2011 (UTC)

Creative Mode General[edit]

  • Lava fails to spread in nether, may also work in survival. Blue 13:11, 25 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Destroying ice in creative does not drop water. --Salvo.ilmiosi 16:08, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
Confirmed, melting still turns them into water. (tested with lava) --Ariat 23:17, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
This may be due to the attack button function being replaced with "remove block". Still, being able to toggle levers and press buttons would be nice.--PlNG 00:23, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
Unless you specifically are having an issue, buttons and levers work with right-click. Tenlaven 04:20, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
  • It's possible to hit village npcs through blocks but the block won't break --Martan
Confirmed, trapped some villagers and killed them through a wide assortment of blocks --Ariat 23:17, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
Not a bug, creative has extended reach and can hit mobs through walls (but block placement/destroy is still at normal distance) Cool12309(T|C) 04:15, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Water source block doesn't disappears when right-clicking it with a full water bucket.
This is due to having unlimited water with the bucket, select an empty bucket to destroy water or put another block over it, most likely not a glitch. Bloodyjabs 00:49, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Glitch where everything changes to have lines in it and clouds become pics of the inventory in a grid shape except everything is out of order. >pic included< 07:21, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Bones are not infinite if you use them on wolfs Blue 13:04, 25 September 2011 (UTC)
  • I dont know if this has to do with endermen or something, but I made some tall bookshelves and blocks keep disappearing. After I put them back, they still disappear with more vanishing each time. And I doubt it's endermen because the bookshelves are pretty high off the ground, and in my house.
  • In multiplayer, players do not see an animation or hear a sound when destroying a block. Others can see it for you, but not for themself.

  • Falling into the ground when approaching a brewing stand. It's happened a few times to me so far but jumping once or twice normally gets me back up. I also take suffocation damage if I fall down more than one block. Annoying. 07:00, 20 November 2011 (UTC)
  • When growing underground tree farms, trees become wooden poles with invisible, glitchy leaves. Leaves do not appear until new torches are placed nearby. -- 23:45, 3 November 2011 (UTC)

Underground tree farm bug Tree resembles a wooden pole with invisible, glitched leaves Leaves appear once torches are placed nearby

  • Instead of explaining the bug, I made a small video showing the bug in detail, With this bug you can place torches over chests, crafting tables and possibly over other blocks which you normally can't. I tried it with a crafting table and a chest feel free to test with other blocks and contribute. Here is the video. --U.atlihan 18:04, 28 September 2011 (UTC)
Can someone confirm this please? --U.atlihan 12:38, 29 September 2011 (UTC)
Is not the first time this is posseble, I recall this bug existed in 1.7.3 as it can happen with more then only glass planes. Yes, it is a bug but no, it is not pre1.9 exclusive Swpe 12:43, 29 September 2011 (UTC)
  • When using a furnace, upon activating it with a fuel source, an error is generated: "Attempted to place a tile entity where there was no entity tile!", but the game does not crash. Error only viewable if the console is operating in the background.
  • Mushroom stew does not stack (even when Notch said that food will stack now).
  • Sticks fire an unlimited supply of arrows when left clicking while you have arrows in your hotbar. This happened on SMP.
  • The food bar will never lower, Even though I go and kill cows, and have 50 beef.It never drops at all.
Check that you are not playing on peaceful.--PlNG 22:24, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
The food bar drains on all difficulties except peaceful. --Ariat 23:36, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Villages do not generate on flat land, ruining the gravel path. HTMLfreak
Villages had this problem since their first appearance --Ariat 23:22, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Disappearing Seedlings while in the farming process. 15:47, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
Check that you have sufficient light to grow the seedlings Nitr0UK 12:56, 25 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Can't place torches on the top of Nether Brick Fences. --Edgeamacated 15:57, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Created multiple worlds using different seeds (deleting each old one as I created a new one) not only spawned me in the same world but also has problems aligning chunks properly.
  • Armor does not take any damage from falling. Killerkerara 21:59, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
Maybe it's part of these; [1][2] --U.atlihan 09:20, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Using shears to remove mushrooms from a mooshroom cow will result in both a real cow and a "ghost" cow spawning in multiplayerMiyamamo 22:25, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Chests stay open when opened once. (SMP)
  • At certain spots along rivers trying to place a flower (red or yellow) results in the grass block changing to sand or growing tall grass. When this occurs your flower is destroyed, but it drops the item so you can pick it back up. (SMP) unsure if single player is affected.
  • The roof of the garden room, when encased in netherrack, has enough clearance to reach the top of the stairs, but the remaining netherrack only leaves one block of space for the rest of the roof.--PlNG 01:50, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Chest 3d model spawns inside placed furnaces, look for chest lock clashing with the front of the furnace for confirmation --Varian 02:58, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Torches get destroyed by falling Snow in Adventure Mode--Sempavieh 15:10, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Snow particle go through ceilings--Sempavieh 15:10, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Adventure Mode isn't even out yet, what are you talking about? -deividas58
Um, yes it is. When you make a world in single player you can choose to make it an Adventure or a Creative world. Chromana 21:54, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
Um, no it isn't. You can choose to make either a Survival or Creative world. There is no Adventure mode currently.
Oops, our bad. Nevertheless there's no need to nit-pick when you know exactly what we meant. Chromana 12:34, 24 September 2011 (UTC)
  • If you hold down the left mouse button while in a bed, and hold it long enough to break the bed, you will get hurt, wake up, and be able to pass through leaves, but will get suffocation damage if you touch a block. Sleeping in a bed without breaking it, fixes this issue. 22:16, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Pulling a fish out of the water sends it flying over your head, out of your pick-up reach, and you have to find it on the ground behind you afterwards. 22:16, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
  • When eating any kind of food (on low-lag SMP), food from the current stack continues to be consumed even after I release the right mouse button (and even after the animation ends) until my hunger bar is full. This happens a little sporadically, but seems to occur more often if I quickly release the button after the first piece of food has been consumed. If I hold down the button so I can see the start of the next eating animation, then release, it doesn't seem to happen. 02:34, 24 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Using a complete Iron Armor doesnt fill all of your "Armor Bar".
This seems intentional as using complete LEATHER armor barely fills the bar at all. Only a complete set of diamond fills it completely now (see: [3][4]). 17:13, 24 September 2011 (UTC)
  • When you try to destroy a cart, holding the left mouse button won't continuously hit it until it destroyed, it will simply hit it once. 15:53, 25 September 2011 (UTC) Emost
  • (!)(?)minecart rails can only be placed facing north or south

  • The torches in mines don't give light
Only some of the torches don't give light. Has this been around since 1.8? Killerkerara 16:22, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Lighting now broken for brick steps
  • Has anyone had their player's arm flash black while looking around? It's been doing that to me since 1.8Pre1 BizarreFeu 22:47, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
    • I have confirmed this issue, as well. This began happening to me, immediately after downloading 1.8. Could be an arm lighting bug. -Bastendorf
  • Some lighting issues in the nether are causing some blocks of netherrack to appear browner than usual. There are also "bubbles" of darkness in midair. --PlNG 00:31, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Furnaces throw cold (blue) light, should be warm (yellow).

  • I am getting extreme memory/CPU usage when loading new chunks. Bloodyjabs 14:56, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
Ditto Moleculor 15:17, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
  • I'm getting extreme CPU usage too and possibly related to that sometimes sound effects echoes and again sometimes this echoing continues while game is running smoothly. (u.atlihan) 14:56, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
Not sure if it's sound, but I'm seeing increasing memory usage with time in a 1.8pre generated mineshaft with no new chunk generation. I suppose it could be sound-centric although I haven't noticed any echoing, just regular stutters in rendering and 1.75 to 2x memory utilization. --Zalamander 19:43, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
Sound problem was related to running minecraft with a ".bat" file as stated in the sound section.
  • I'm getting very high CPU usage on Server/Client ( 100 % ) since 1.9pre1. Sound is sometimes stuttering. CPU usage was fine with 1.8pre versions and 1.8.1 ( approx. 25% ) with 2 players. 20:59, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Even though I have a modestly new laptop, playing minecraft, the GPU/CPU is ALWAYS running 100% according to process explorer.--PlNG 22:26, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Getting 100% CPU usage on all cores on server computer (sometimes 50% on second core), was 20-30% before 1.9pre (seems to be causing players issues with placing/using blocks, along with standard 1.8 stuttering)-- 02:03, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
  • CPU usage on server is 60-80% with no players connected. 95-100% with players. 1.8.1 is 4-5% with no players, 11% with player.
  • CPU usage on Client/Server ( both Core2Duo @ 2.2 GHz ) is very high. The Cores are maxed out (100%) 07:00, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
  • From what i can tell the CPU problems are happening because a thread (Other than the main thread) is not giving control back. If a thread (Other than the main thread) does not call something like Sleep or MsgWaitForMultipleObjects (Both Windows Functions) after it has done some work then the CPU usage will be high and it can cause lag in other threads (As well as other applications). --Stucuk 14:42, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
  • minecraft_server.jar uses all CPU available when NO players are online. My server now sounds like a Jet --Darknight670
  • I created an image showing an idle minecraft_server.jar versions 1.7, 1.8, and 1.9 cpu usage: --Er1c

  • Endermen do not get spooked. ( When you look at them.) 15:51, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
I've had an enderman chase me down in Creative mode, so it does happen. Somehow. Just not sure if the whole 'freeze and look' thing is working. Moleculor 16:25, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
I also got one to follow me, but it took several attempts. I stared at him for a good minute before he decided to shake and attack. Killerkerara 16:36, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
That is what I meant, they don't stare and freeze as well as they used too, I stared at one for several minutes, and nothing happened at all. 16:41, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
Endermen chased me but they don't open their mouths as they should RossRoss 19:07, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Snow Golems do not leave a snow trial in Mushroom Biomes
  • Endermen can't be damaged by bare hands? --AlixeTiir 02:47, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Villagers
Don't attempt to come back to the village.
Die too often by fall damage and walking into lava.
Not interactive at all
Don't respawn after death??

Not sure if these are bugs but these are definitely problemsTheesexiestman 07:18, 23 September 2011 (UTC)

  • Villagers will also walk across their own wheat, ruining both the wheat and the land it's on. Sobo2Bonzai 22:10, 23 September 2011 (UTC) Sobo2Bonzai
  • Skeletons spawned in an NPC house while the door was shut in the daytime. 06:06, 24 September 2011 (UTC)
Hostile mobs can spawn almost anywhere if there is not enough light to stop it from spawning. Bloodyjabs 06:38, 24 September 2011 (UTC)
  • I just had a snow golem escape a fenced in area, my guess is when the chunk unloaded it was "inside" the fence and so it was pushed on top.
  • The snow golem then proceeded to target a spider inside a cave which had no openings.
  • Villager skin files (Librarian, Priest and Villager) include hood that is not used in game --RobotHacker 06:36, 26 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Magma Cube skin (lava.png) interior cube has texture as 6 by 6 by 6, but in game is 4 by 4 by 4, in game it shows as a chunk missing from the top right of the interior cube (the Magma Cube's right.) --RobotHacker 06:48, 26 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Snow golems dont take fall damage and can be created underwater and didnt nelt is true. I heard they will meelt in 1.9 update Creeper IV ~ Not Lucas! 11:42, 26 September 2011 (UTC)

Don't know if this is a true bug or not but it seems as though when creating snow golems, if you place down a snow block for the last block of the recipe it won't create the snow golem. AmazedStream

Nether portals[edit]

  • There seems to be a problem with what I belive is some type of test when creating nether portals. When I made a portal to the nether in the seed "gimmeabreak", the portal sent me straight into the middle of a sea of lava, this is a major problem. --Kodiak 22:10, 26 September 2011 (UTC)

  • Serious server bug: Gracefully shutting down a server does not wait for chunks to finish saving. Easy to reproduce, start the server with no world. Wait for the spawn point to generate. Shut the server down (gracefully.) When viewing the map, you will see that very few of the chunks have been saved to disk. JiFish 17:25, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
    • If there were no changes, why save the data? (Could be a "feature") Nobody
      • That wouldn't explain why some chunks have been saved. It looks to me like the server doesn't wait for the new saving chunks thread to finish. This will mean the chunks that have been changed will also not save. I haven't had time to test this. JiFish 18:19, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
        • CONFIRMED that this bug can cause modified chunks to not save. Can't be a feature. JiFish 18:29, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
      • A very good point you have there. Would also aid in reducing server lag. (Could be a "feature") Wizzledonker
        • But then the server has to regenerate them again when starting, significantly increasing load time. Also see my above reply. JiFish 18:19, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Failed to start minecraft_server.jar on linux servers
  • After a short while the server starts using 100% of one CPU core (tested on Linux with nogui option).
    • I can confirm this. Seems to start as soon as the server starts to save chunks. Orphu 02:43, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
    • Yep. Running a 1.9pre1 server caused the CPU on our VPS to spike to 100%+ even with nobody online. Switching back to 1.8.1 made everything normal again. Freefish 03:02, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
    • I can also confirm that. We tried 1.9 pre1 and our CPU usage instantly went to 100%. Happens both with JDK 1.6.23 and JDK 1.7 on Linux --Brotkastn 12:43, 17 October 2011 (UTC)
  • save-all and stop cause bad file descriptor error, does not save completely, then players spawn but world does not.
    • I think this is the same as the bug I reported above. JiFish 23:15, 26 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Server randomly crashes when redstone torches flash on and off due to an alternating signal-- 17:26, 25 September 2011 (UTC)

  • Sound effects echoes strangely.

Edit: Only happens when I run game with a "bat" file to allocate more memory to minecraft. --U.atlihan 14:56, 22 September 2011 (UTC)

I can confirm this happens with me as well. Only when the .bat file is ran. --Anthrophobic 15:39, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
I am also running it through a .bat file, but I haven't noticed any echoes. Is it all sounds, or only specific sounds? Killerkerara 16:20, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
I lovered the memory allocated editing the .bat file and now sound problem only happens sometimes. So I think it depends on how much memory you let minecraft to use, the only thing I can say is now I can't let minecraft to use as much memory as beta 1.8. --U.atlihan 09:10, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Endermen have NO sound what so ever, not even a zombie sound. 16:23, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
It's the same with new mobs. I think it's because sounds will be changed. --Salvo.ilmiosi 17:10, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
  • When I am in a chest/furnace/workbench mobs(spiders in this occasion) sound around 50% louder than they do when not using them RossRoss 17:53, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
  • I do believe that the sound is the cause of the lag. If I turn off my sound in game menu the lag spikes stop.

  • (don't know if it's a bug) Possible spawning in the middle of the ocean meaning swimming in 10 minutes to reach land.
Confirmed. This issue exist since first pre-release of minecraft beta 1.8.

  • Rare terrain generation glitches still occur, as in 1.8. This leads to floating trees and reeds.
  • Seeds seem to appear out of nowhere, possibly due to grass dieing on sand. Blue 00:32, 23 September 2011 (UTC)thumb
  • The new Mushroom biome will not show the snow generated by the new snow man mob
  • A village generated above a ravine.
  • Chance of player not spawning at map spawn (verified on new map with no beds) player spawned near village hundreds of blocks from spawn. -- 02:16, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Do Ferns spawn? I never find them in a new 1.9 world.--Ua 18:29, 24 September 2011 (UTC)

  • When lava meets water it still produces Cobblestone as opposed to Stone as mentioned elsewhere on the 'net about changes. Kereminde 18:50, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Looked this up again, and from what I read this is the thing. Running water meeting running lava makes Cobblestone. Running water meeting still lava makes Obsidian. Running lava meeting still water makes Stone. Still need to get to testing this myself. Kereminde 02:58, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Correction, Running water meets running lava makes AIR, apparently. CaptainSparklez demonstrated it on youtube.
I saw stone formed when lava moved across the top of still water. Chromana 05:27, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
  • When standing above water and destroying a block that is below water, that block will not display a breaking animation. Killerkerara 18:24, 22 September 2011 (UTC) Honestly... Read the wiki... This is a problem that has been around for god knows how long. ~DragonFire
  • Water (examples are from underground springs) now has a semi-transparent and lighter blue texture (at least for me) as opposed to totally opaque blue. Kereminde 20:02, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Falling water destroys items normally pushed aside by flowing water. An exhaustive list: Sapling, powered rail, detector rail, cobweb, tall grass, dandelion, rose, brown mushroom, red mushroom, torch, redstone wire, seeds, rails, lever, redstone torches, button, redstone repeaters, stems, lily pads, nether warts, and a side effect of ladders being destroyed when water is placed in the same square.--PlNG 22:24, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Air pockets are sometimes found in large bodies of water.

  • Snow does not disappear after the snowfall stops --Mininian 09:04, 18 October 2011 (UTC)
  • Snowfall removes rail and replaces it with snow --Mininian 09:04, 18 October 2011 (UTC)
  • Snowfall causes snow layers to be created in the same block as a torch or ladder destroying the torch or ladder. Nightred 20:12, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
  • I can confirm that the snowfall in a new 1.9 world is destroying torches and wheat. It seems the snow over-writes any smaller-than-a-block objects that were already in the space. R b bergstrom 17:22, 24 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Snowfall also destroys and placed Redstone Wire and Rail.
  • Snow floats over half blocks. Nightred 20:12, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
  • When snowing the snow doesn't appear on the tall grass or it creates a flat layer of snow (flying) above it.
  • When it's snowing, looking straight up, in the imaginary column above you there is no snow falling.
This happens in the rain also, This also happened in 1.8.1. Nightred 20:58, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Snow lands on ice.
  • Snowfall can cause snow layers to spawn temporarily on top of surface lava pools.
  • Yes, this happened to me. I fell through a snow layer into lava just two spaces below it (so lava, 1 empty space, then snow layer) while just walking over the snow. Upon respawning I immediately returned to the spot, and either I had fallen through the snow without removing it, or new snow had already covered the lava. From the surface, there's no way to tell that there is lava under the snow. R b bergstrom 17:22, 24 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Snow landing on fences creates hovering sheets of snow above the fence. Even though the fence is really narrow, the snow is a full block in width and length, so it looks really silly. R b bergstrom 17:22, 24 September 2011 (UTC)
  • loaded 1.8.1 world into 1.9. Instead of rain, it snows in 100% of the entire world, destroying minecart track and crops. All water in the world freezes over. The entire planet becomes a snow biome. That sounds, in my opinion, pretty sweet. possibly because it was a 1.8.1 world? Dont know.
  • 1.9 worlds have absolutely huge snow biomes, at least three times the size of regular biomes. I've been walking through one for an entire in-game day. Faren22 01:58, 24 September 2011 (UTC)

For christe sake. Please read the god damn update list! Bigger biomes was an addition to the game! Jusus...

  • On certain blocks that have been placed rain falls straight through them all the way to bedrock. (1.9 SMP) GTJevon 7:33, 28 September 2011

  • A change in Biome to a swamp Biome has a direct change in colors, no shading in between. This will affect grass, tree, water, and wine colors. This screenshot to the right should show what I mean. right Bloodyjabs 15:43, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
  • (Possibly not a bug) Trees are half swamp, half original texture on both leaves and vines when switching biomes.
See above, this is a bug, this also affects grass and water colors. Bloodyjabs 17:23, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
Invisible tree leaves seem to be very common now. I've seen rows of trees that had all their leaves invisible on one side and many have "missing" tops, etc. I know they exist, if you try to walk into them you get bumped back.

  • When you hit water petals (leafs on water I don't know their name and a name doesn't apear when you hover your mouse over them in your inventory) in a swamp area you can collect them, they appear gray in your inventory and you can't place them anywere. U.atlihan 14:59, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
Confirmed, I assume they are lily pads Killerkerara 15:43, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
You can place lily pads. The problem lies in being unable to select a water block. A workaround for this is to place a block over the water leaving a block of air underneath, then place the lily pad on the underside of the block, and it will rest on the water. Discovered this when I found I could place a lily pad under a lily pad and get both back. However, I did find an issue that regardless of what I do, I cannot orient the lily pad. The fold is always facing direction 2.--PlNG 21:44, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
I also discovered that you can place them next to another lily pad if you can precisely aim your cursor to their sides, they are really thin. By the way thank you Killerkerara that was the name I was looking for :) --U.atlihan 09:03, 23 September 2011 (UTC)

  • Double tapping shift (sneak button) quickly makes you sprint. (I'm not sure if this is a bug or intended) U.atlihan 14:58, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
I didn't seem to have this issue RossRoss 19:05, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
I tried again and yes while running forward double tapping shift QUICKLY makes you sprint, may be it was like this since 1.8 and I just discovered it... Can someone else try it? U.atlihan 19:58, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
Comfirmed, the key is to already be walking. Tapping the shift key twice makes you sprint. --Ariat 23:24, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
Confirmed. I'll it to the main page with a (?). Chromana 01:56, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
  • thumbPlacing a torch or redstone torch on snow when there is an adjacent block will cause the torch to be placed on the adjacent block (see picture). Only happens when the adjacent block is one which can normally have a torch on it (e.g. stone and not glass). Oddly, they also attach to note blocks. Only tested in creative, I've been looking for a snow biome in adventure for 20 mins to test it and haven't had any luck yet. Anyone confirm for Adventure? Chromana 01:43, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
Confirmed this bug for the Adventure Mode too! --Sempavieh 15:10, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
If someone else can test this then we can move it to confirmed. Chromana 21:52, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
Just tested, is indeed bugged in the way shown. Moved to main page. --Ariat 23:28, 25 September 2011 (UTC)
If you jump in survival mode you will gain experience. --Tacoman6:23, 28 September 2011 (UTC)

  • The MB size in front of the world file isn't changing. its always 0,0
Confirmed. Worlds created before the pre-release keeps showing their previous size.
Confirmed here too. Bloodyjabs 16:46, 22 September 2011 (UTC)

  • Excessive lag on new or existing worlds, even if new chunks are not being created. Bloodyjabs 17:08, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
I can confirm this. I always had about 30 fps, now its ~2-6. totally unplayable.
I recently updated my video drivers and Java trying to kick an "Out of Memory" error I was starting to get. Figured out (tentatively) Creative + Sprint-flight was causing it to bug up. Return to my usual methods of travel (Survival, walking by foot) and no troubles yet. HOWEVER, CPU usage pins itself at 100% when I start the game and stays there. Kereminde 18:45, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
i cant play 1.9....the lag is so bad in ssp that i get 2 frames a second.. i have it set to fast graphics, smooth lighting is off, fog is tiny.. i have no idea what is now drawing so much memory in 1.9....1.8.1 works just fine--Silverfox6000 00:56, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
It happens to me as well, but both in multiplayer and singleplayer. I play 1.8 at 60-70 fps and the 1.9 pre-release runs at 6-8 fps. It's just horrible, and setting it to fast graphics and tiny render distance doesn't help at all. Creative is even more laggy. Gazotti 14:17, 25 September 2011 (UTC)

  • Chests don't seem to have a sound for me. Remove this someone if this is only me.
Chests don't have sound for me either. - RossRoss 17:47, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
Same here, confirmed. Bloodyjabs 18:14, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
Is it possible that they are changing the Chest Sound, and so it doesn't work like the Endermen's and Silverfish's don't? MadDogTen 19:13, 22 September 2011 (UTC)

Old Bugs/Not Bugs[edit]

  • As with 1.8, NPC villages will still generate gravel pathways that block doors to houses. Also, houses sometimes spawn higher than they should be, thus making getting in/out of them impossible without making some kind of stair.
  • I can't get it, it is a zip not a jar when I try to download it~Enderblaze
Have you tried changing the extension from zip to jar? 03:04, 24 September 2011 (UTC)
  • I mined several blocks of redstone, but they did not appear in my inventory. I was standing near a pool of lava, but well away enough that none of the redstone should have fallen into it. --Sheelawolf 02:56, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
Full inventory? In creative? Tell us what happened. Cool12309(T|C) 04:19, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
I was in Survival, with only a partially filled inventory, mining at about level 12-14 above bedrock. I went through a couple good-sized veins of redstone, but noticed that I wasn't seeing any dust coming from them. At the time, I thought it was because I was standing so close that I was picking up the dust before I could see it, but when I checked my inventory, there was none. It could be that the ore wasn't producing any dust for me.Sheelawolf 13:19, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
My bad. I just went back into the game and discovered I'd been using a stone pickaxe while mining. Once I switched it for an iron one, I was able to gather redstone just fine.--Sheelawolf 22:20, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Bug:continents are sometimes generated with some shores looking very strange-straight wall from one horizon to another... it looks awfull. can post screen if u want.
You mean like this? Also, is this single-player or SMP?
This is a chunk generation glitch, which has been in the game for quite some time now. This bug in common if you explore new areas in 1.8+ on a world that was created in Beta 1.7.3 or lower. It's a bug but its not new, unconfirmed. Bloodyjabs 02:11, 24 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Bug: Can't seem to eat bread, have tried dropping them, putting them in boxes, making them fresh. Everytime, can't eat them, they just swing. 22:14, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
Can't replicate, ate my old bread (1.8), made new bread and ate that too (1.9), all works. --Ariat 23:02, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
You probably had full health, i think a change happened to make it so you can't waste food. Theesexiestman 07:32, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
  • The sides of the swamp biomes' grass blocks are in stark contrast to their tops (that is, the shades of green are completely different) 15:57, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
This is only occurring for me on fast graphics setting, which I believe is intentional. Killerkerara 18:10, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
This is a very old glitch (if it is a glitch). The sides of grass may have this feature disabled in fast mode to keep the game from slowing down on lower-end systems. Bloodyjabs 03:43, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Wooden Hoe is not taking damage when being used.
Just tested, my wooden hoe was properly taking damage when used to till grass, and was destroyed when the durability ran out. Are you in creative mode? Killerkerara 17:56, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
  • I just flew all the way out to something like +2600 X, didn't see a bit of snow. Flew to -100 X, immediately a huge swath of snow. Is snow only generating in -X areas? Moleculor 15:23, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
I did not get this, this is just normal Biome generation, its completely random. Unconfirmed. Bloodyjabs 15:28, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
I can't seem to find snow anywhere. Im gonna go exploring now but it is possibly looking like there is just snow in one place? I have no idea, its just strange that I have been wandering for ages and still not found any. RossRoss 17:49, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
I also didn't find any snow in three different (SMP-)maps. We went in every direction, about 1500 blocks each. Lama39 22:47, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Mushrooms/Gravel generating in the nether? Is this normal? I can supply screenshot if needed.
Are you serious? These have always generated in the Nether. Bloodyjabs 15:50, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
Sorry I never went to the nether. Went there once died with good items that I worked my ass off for and never went back. lol Now there is a reason to go back. Just didn't seem normal to see mushroom or gravel. Sorry. --Anthrophobic 17:00, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
  • I can't seem to punch anything to death in Creative mode. Wielding a weapon works fine. Bug, or am I just a weakling? Moleculor 15:32, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
I was able to punch a sheep to death in the normal amount of hits. Killerkerara 16:25, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Mobs STILL flash black - same with signs and chests

I can confirm This, And, its happen to me since 1.8pre1 Too.
This is a lighting bug, and if this has been a problem since an older version, it will be labeled as unconfirmed.
  • Water bucket drops infinite amounts of waters when right clicking.
Not a bug, this is a feature for milk and lava buckets in Creative Mode, this is not present in Survival Mode. Bloodyjabs 18:59, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Not sure if bug or not, but the only way to make a snow golum is if the last block you place in the pumpkin head. If the last block you place to make one is one of the snow block, it won't work.
Not a bug. Bloodyjabs 19:08, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Snow Golums don't place snow on leaf blocks.
Not a bug, snow is only placed on leaf blocks if on fast graphics not fancy. Theesexiestman 07:45, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Bug found: jumping gives you experience. --Salvo.ilmiosi 14:53, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
Confirmed, I got that too. Bloodyjabs 14:53, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
It's not a bug, Jens tweeted about it Maxovitsj 14:57, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
  • My character died with an empty hunger bar, (by skeleton arrow) and now that I've respawned my hunger* bar doesn't seem to go down any more. I tried jumping alot and it's been almost a full day and still it doesn't go down. it shakes once in awhile but never decreases. can anybody replicate this?? (i even tried restarting the game):( 17:42, 24 September 2011 (UTC)
derp! I was on peaceful and forgot. Sorry! 18:41, 24 September 2011 (UTC)
  • If you hold space, you jump once (like when hitting blocks in 1.8pre). --Salvo.ilmiosi 15:08, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
He just twitted that its to test the orbs dropping in SMP. --Anthrophobic 15:09, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
He never said anything about expericence, when you hold the jump button you do not jump repeatedly after that, just like the hold-right click button bug in the 1.8pres. Bloodyjabs 15:14, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
Confirmed. I have that too. Bloodyjabs 15:15, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
Why do people consider this a bug and continue to add it to the Know Bugs page? I don't find that its a bug. I think it should remain how it is now. One click, one jump. Holding it down to continue jumping is pointless. I think it was done on purpose. --Anthrophobic 15:48, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
Considering how holding down the right-click disabled block placement was a bug in the 1.8 pres, this is very similar too. If this is not a bug, I cannot see any reason to why it should be removed, as its been in since the very first stages of Minecraft. Bloodyjabs 15:53, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
Alright, you win. Just don't see where its confirmed that it is or is not a bug. So it should not be on the page in my opinion. But no reason to argue over it. Get back to testing! lol
I'll just Tweeted Notch and Jens about the jumping bug to let them know about the situation. [3] Bloodyjabs 16:03, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
It's probably related to experience orb test, if jeb let jump button to send a command to give orbs repeatedly that would cause an overload and crashes especially in multiplayer. it's like holding a letter while you're writing something just too much dataaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa :)
It doesnt happen while you are in the water. When you are swimming, you continue to "jump". This is probably a feature, 1 jump = 1 click but holding the button down allows you to swim. Its as it should be.
Its not a bug. Bloodyjabs 20:40, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
Not being able to hold space to jump infinitely: Notch is fixing this "tomorrow" (via twitter). It was removed on purpose, but it will return.
  • Whatever world I play on I have exeptional lag that makes my game literaly unplayable. I think this is something to do with the game not being officialy updated (It being a pre relece) Hope this gets fixed soon...
It was the same thing in 1.8 prerelease for me, got fixed in 1.8 so I hope it gets fixed in actual 1.9
  • A little bug sugar canes grow on sand and under water
Started in 1.8, and almost certainly not a bug to begin with. 17:48, 26 September 2011 (UTC)
  • When it rained, there was normal rain on swamp, pine forest, and grassland biomes but rain would not fall on the sand.-- 03:52, 27 September 2011 (UTC)
Always been this way for desert biomes. 05:22, 27 September 2011 (UTC)
  • on my laptop i can punch mobs from like 20 blocks away i'm on a mac 13:02, 27 September 2011 (UTC)
This has happened on every platform in creative mode since 1.8pre1. Either an old bug or intentional. 17:51, 27 September 2011 (UTC)

When a bed sets on fire it explodes (try setting a bed on fire in the nether for best results).-- 21:14, 29 September 2011 (UTC)Ralph

  • On multiplayer server a new generated map in 1.9 pre3 causes huge gaps of space in the chunks. A square of nothing up to the void can be seen, and every other source is displayed. Dropping into the gap disconnects you from the server. Xoep 21:54, 22 Octobre 2011 (UTC)
  • On multiplayer building near a village causes to respawn the blocks into their original form, meaning the placed blocks disappear, and the taken ones re-appear. Disappeared blocks don't give the item back, while re-appeared blocks take the item from you inventory. This occurs in chests as well, and it is confirmed by myself that this "area" of respawning ends at a certain point, causing trees being cut in half, or a building next to the village cut as well. Xoep 22:34, 22 Octobre 2011 (UTC)
