Will bots be affected? If they will be, how? --GreenStone (0x54; 0x43) 16:32, 2 August 2013 (UTC)

It's particularly interesting how should we (bot users) handle new authorization system. Could you tell if pywikipedia's login scripts work on other upgraded wikies? Norrius 16:37, 2 August 2013 (UTC)
You will want to register your bot accounts on Curse.com using the same credentials they have on the wiki. They will be merged in just as any normal user. Other than that, there should be no issue (we've got bots working on other wikis on the network).-- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 16:56, 2 August 2013 (UTC)
I need to clarify my answer here. AWB bots work on Hydra. As of right now, there are still issues with Pywikibot that have to do with the user authentication. It is something that we are aware of, and are trying to find a fix for. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 19:16, 18 August 2013 (UTC)
Nice. Thanks for letting us know. What is the most early possible date for me to lose the tool for mass moving 500+ pages? Norrius 20:21, 18 August 2013 (UTC)

MedaWiki version[edit]

Any particular reason it's only being upgraded to 1.19.7, rather than 1.21.1? -- Orthotope talk 16:49, 2 August 2013 (UTC)

The first step is to get all the wikis synced up on 1.19.7. Once that is done, all the wikis will be upgraded to 1.21.x. We see this happening before the end of the year. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 16:56, 2 August 2013 (UTC)
Okay, sounds good. -- Orthotope talk 17:12, 2 August 2013 (UTC)

best news ever. --Kizzycocoa 22:00, 2 August 2013 (UTC)

You could always have hidden it... t numbermaniac c 01:51, 3 August 2013 (UTC)
The problem with the sidebar is that eats up horizontal space the entire length of the page, and displays on top of wide content such as tables and images. A smaller panel that article content can flow around will provide a better experience for everyone. I appreciate that Curse has responded to the complaints about it, even if it took them a couple of years. -- Orthotope talk 10:43, 3 August 2013 (UTC)

I must say I'm excited for the new design. Sounds promising. Will this enable the bytes changed numbers on history pages? t numbermaniac c 02:21, 3 August 2013 (UTC)

Is four days later too late to give my opinion? I, personally, am enthusiastic about the migration because it appears to be something good for the wiki. I myself won't be able to enjoy the new look as a registered user, due to the email requirement. Meh... I'll be back. Happy editing everyone! --Sheepuff20 (T|C) 05:26, 7 August 2013 (UTC)
Email accounts are easy to get, so this shouldn't be a barrier to anyone. -- Orthotope talk 06:18, 7 August 2013 (UTC)
Don't start: We've been trying to get her to make an account for a long time now... t numbermaniac c 07:21, 7 August 2013 (UTC)
Don't even ask why I can't use email. --Sheepuff20 (T|C) 13:46, 7 August 2013 (UTC)

Files used in more than one wiki[edit]

Will this still be a problem? For example, you have to check if a file is used in the german or netherlands wiki, because they both are using the same database or something like that. --eagle3000 (D ~ B) 14:28, 3 August 2013 (UTC)

Currently, the Dutch, German and English wikis share image files. After the migration, each wiki will have it's own complete set of images, so no more file sharing. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 16:16, 3 August 2013 (UTC)
THANK GOD. THIS HAS BEEN THE BIGGEST PROBLEM.--007a83 (Talk|Contribs) 01:45, 6 August 2013 (UTC)
Too bad. I loved the same image database. If an image gets an update on EN, it would be the same on NL. That didn't cost us lot's of time. Ow well, sometimes we have to adept.
- CrazyBliep NL Admin 16:16, 11 August 2013 (UTC)
Is it not possible to somehow create "special images" which are actually just a redirect to an image on the EN-wiki? -- 23:06, 20 August 2013 (UTC)
What you think about one big base with files, something like commons.wikimedia.org? This will be a best solution. Lewandowskipl.Wiki Admin talk 12:56, 23 August 2013 (UTC)

This may seem like a stupid question, but will accounts and ALL pages be migrated? I have spent huge amounts of time working on my userspace, and I don't want to lose it. User:Meeples10 Talk
01:17, 4 August 2013 (UTC)

Everything will be migrated. As long as you follow the user merge instructions it should be a seamless process. (Those instructions will be posted when we have an actual date for the migration) -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 01:45, 4 August 2013 (UTC)
How it will be done? I have Curse account with other nickname (Lewandowski_Minepedia, I don't care about this name/account), but with this same email. I don't want editing wikis (mc and non mc wikis) with my Curse name, but with my mcwiki name Lewandowski (note: it's very popular surname in Poland). What happens when somebody else using Lewandowski name on Curse Inc.? It's very probalby, because I can't register that name (or you reserved all nicknames from Wikis for futhure migration). On Wikipedia it is possible to take over nicknames, if user is inactive (I took advantage of this option, and I have Lewandowski nickname on Wikipedia Poland). How it looks in this case in Curse? Lewandowskipl.Wiki Admin talk 13:32, 23 August 2013 (UTC)

How may I do so on other wikis[edit]

I have my own wiki and would like to know how to make my own wiki upgrade. Thanks in advance. ~ LABHOUSE (LH) 03:30, 4 August 2013 (UTC)

Assuming you're using MediaWiki, see the relevant documentation on upgrading. -- Orthotope talk 03:38, 4 August 2013 (UTC)

user name merg[edit]

But I hate my curse name. can you make it so we can change are curse names and let them start with numbers like here.--007a83 (Talk|Contribs) 06:07, 4 August 2013 (UTC)

You will just need to choose your current wiki name as your display name. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 07:24, 4 August 2013 (UTC)
Are there separate display names for each Curse wiki on Gamepedia platform? --GreenStone (0x54; 0x43) 07:26, 4 August 2013 (UTC)
Is the display name limited the same as the wiki where you can't have the name starting with a lowercase letter or have underscores? Does it have to be the same as the original wiki account, or can you change it? ultradude25Talk
– 08:47, 4 August 2013 (UTC)
But then my page is at wiki/User:Mine007a83 and the top of the user page says "007a83 (User:Mine007a83)"--007a83 (Talk|Contribs) 17:17, 4 August 2013 (UTC)
Never mind, just made a new Curse. --007a83 (Talk|Contribs) 21:58, 5 August 2013 (UTC)
In answer to GreenStone, yes you can have a different display name on each wiki if you want. @ Ultra, I'm not sure. I think that's a media wiki thing though, where it Caps the first word of anything. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 18:11, 10 August 2013 (UTC)
Then I have another question: will display name choices be permanent or I (or a bureaucrat?) will be able to change it again? --GreenStone (0x54; 0x43) 19:10, 10 August 2013 (UTC)
Display name changes can be granted by any Curse staff (me) upon request.-- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 11:10, 11 August 2013 (UTC)
One last question in this topic: and Curse.com usernames cannot be changed at all? --GreenStone (0x54; 0x43) 14:04, 21 August 2013 (UTC)

Email requirement[edit]

So would I be correct in saying that to stay on the wiki you need a curse account which requires an email? I think I already have a curse account, if that's how you register on the forums, but I'm just curious anyways. t numbermaniac c 06:07, 4 August 2013 (UTC)

Yes, unless you wish to edit as an IP address only. If you already have a Curse account using an email address, simply go into preferences here and make sure you are using the same email address for your wiki account and everything should merge fine. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 07:24, 4 August 2013 (UTC)

New url/redirect[edit]

Would it be possible to make minecraftwiki.net redirect to the new url? I don't exactly understand networking, but would it also be possible to have minecraftwiki.net be a usable alternate url thingy for minecraft.gamepedia.com? Not sure if this is possible, just suggesting it. Pokechu22 18:06, 4 August 2013 (UTC)

It would be nice that for example nl:minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Mojang would redirect to minecraft-nl.gamepedia.com/Mojang –Preceding unsigned comment was added by TheWombatGuru (talkcontribs) 19:02, 4 August 2013 (UTC). Please sign your posts with ~~~~
"Minecraftwiki.net will be forwarded to the new URL, so it won't break anyone's bookmarks." Hopefully this will be set up for all the other languages as well. We (i.e., admins) will have to remember to update the interwiki links, but that's easy. -- Orthotope talk 19:18, 4 August 2013 (UTC)
Of course, the language wiki urls will also be redirected and the redirects will be active indefinitely. I'm glad you are thinking about details, but don't worry about the interwiki stuff, that will all be taken care of as part of the migration. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 22:39, 4 August 2013 (UTC)
Perhaps it is obvious, but how it will be redirect? minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Article -> minecraft.gamepedia.com/wiki/Article or minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Article -> minecraft.gamepedia.com (and of course other languages)? I hope that the first example will be used. :) Lewandowskipl.Wiki Admin talk 13:01, 23 August 2013 (UTC)

Curse User Bar[edit]

will it look like it does now or like it does on the 0x10c wiki, AKA. --007a83 (Talk|Contribs) 20:01, 5 August 2013 (UTC)

Like it does on 0x10c. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 03:45, 6 August 2013 (UTC)
Ok, whatever.--007a83 (Talk|Contribs) 21:04, 7 August 2013 (UTC)

accounts with same e-mail[edit]

how will accounts with same e-mail be affected? I have my bot account using the same e-mail address as my main account, does that mean I need 2 curse accounts for the new wiki?—Powup333 ZH Admin 02:05, 9 August 2013 (UTC)

I don't think so, you can easily remove your email from your minecraftwiki account. TheWombatGuru 08:39, 9 August 2013 (UTC)
Yes, you have to have a separate email address for each wiki account. So you will need to use a different email for your bot account, and get it registered on Curse.com. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 00:47, 10 August 2013 (UTC)

Back when MCF merged with Curse, they screwed up and my MCF account (Zuriki) was somehow hijacked by another member. This means that this wiki account will also be hijacked in the upcoming merge. So I'd like to thank Curse for not only not helping me reclaim the original account on MCF (despite multiple attempts to contact you) but for also now handing over this account to that person as well.

P.S. Pretty sure that's illegal.--Zuriki 13:35, 12 August 2013 (UTC)

That would be impossible unless they had your e-mail. because you would be able to send a password reset to the e-mail. If you had no e-mail linked with it, Thats YOUR fault. If you want to make sure it does not happen. MAKE SURE YOUR CURSE E-MAIL AND YOUR WIKI ONE MATCH, and if your curse name is different.(In which you would chose a display name, and all old edits would be carried over to your curse name. if you want your name to be the same and your curse name is different. MAKE a new curse. I do not recommend this. Just leting you know its possible.
P.S. its not illegal unless the other user got your password for your e-mail or money was involved
--007a83 (Talk|Contribs) 21:28, 13 August 2013 (UTC)
My MCF account was hijacked, not my Wiki account so it had to have my email registered to it. But with the account merge the email on the forum account must have changed because I am unable to log in with the only email it could possibly have been.--Zuriki 22:14, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
We don't "hand over your account" to someone else. They had the username in Curse.com before you did, it's as simple as that. What do you expect us to do? Just take it away from them because you want it? That would be fair how? With the user merge, all of your contributions will be moved over to your Curse.com username, and you will have to option to choose Zuriki as your display name. We know it's not a perfect solution, but it's the best we've been able to come up with, while remaining fair to all of our users. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 00:34, 18 August 2013 (UTC)
Fair would be not letting someone have my username and all my posts. If your response to someone with a legitimate complaint is to tell them it's their fault (which it isn't) and to just shut up and like it, disgusting.--Zuriki 22:14, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
All your stuff will be moved to your curse.<.<--007a83 (Talk|Contribs) 22:43, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
Zuriki, your account was not "hijacked" or "hacked" or "stolen" or "given away". Your minecraftforum.net account is not merged with any Curse.com account, it is inaccessible to everyone. If you have any curse account problems you can use the Curse support centre (support.curse.com). --Citricsquid 06:26, 27 August 2013 (UTC)

My Opinion[edit]

This is my opinion on the move to the new address. I think all popular games should have a wiki at its own address, not on some network. I think it can sill be apart if gamepedia but it does not need to be moved to minecraft.gamepedia.com, as said on the page. we are the flagship wiki, But you don't sick the flagship in with every one else, it should standout, be in front of every one else. not be mixed in with every thing else. We can sill be part of gamepedia with out being at a new address. I know this will most likely not matter, but I wanted to state my opinion. thank you for reading. --007a83 (Talk|Contribs) 22:27, 16 August 2013 (UTC)

I understand and accept your opinion, however, numbers drive the success or failure of any web enterprise. In this case, the success of Gamepedia is dependent on the numbers from Minecraft. Without the url change, we lose those numbers. As I explained in the announcement, we do understand that the success of Gamepedia probably means very little to you, and we do recognize there is very little that we can offer MCW at this point that would seriously benefit you as a community with the exception of being able to continue to provide you with a stable environment to do what you guys do best... document Minecraft. Without the success of Gamepedia, that would become problematic. We hope that you as an individual, and you as the greater Minecraft community will understand that, and if not approve of the change, at least recognize the necessity of it.-- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 19:11, 18 August 2013 (UTC)
I understand the necessity of it. I just wish could stay at this Url. Where it has been from the beginning. I guess its not possible to have it both ways. I love all the changes besides the Url change. That's the only thing that brothers me. If it has to change for the wiki and the community to continue to grow, then it is a great idea, and I can't wait.--007a83 (Talk|Contribs) 10:44, 19 August 2013 (UTC)

are we staying on minecraftwiki.net? OR moving to a new URL?

Limesave 01:14, 17 August 2013 (UTC)

The URL will change, but minecraftwiki.net will redirect there, so links and bookmarks won't be broken. -- Orthotope talk 01:20, 17 August 2013 (UTC)

Mobile site?[edit]

do we get a mobile site now?--Eeddgg 19:00, 18 August 2013 (UTC)

Yes. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 19:10, 18 August 2013 (UTC)

Why not keep this URL and have it redirect to the new site? It'll be a huge pain to remember this new URL. This one is so simple. 01:25, 20 August 2013 (UTC)

As the page says, "Minecraftwiki.net will be forwarded to the new URL, so it won't break anyone's bookmarks.". -- Orthotope talk 02:20, 20 August 2013 (UTC)

About the migration process[edit]

Will we be informed shortly before the migration process will be started? Is it possible to know how long will it take (for how long will the wikis be read-only)? --GreenStone (0x54; 0x43) 14:04, 21 August 2013 (UTC)

Yes, I will put up a new notice when I have a specific date, and if everything goes right, the wiki will be in read only for 2-4 hours. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 23:18, 23 August 2013 (UTC)

suggestion about the migration[edit]

Far back to the creation of the Chinese Wiki, the system Maintenance script have copied the whole image database to the wiki, however, because most of them are uploaded by English wiki users for their own purpose, they are not used at all in the Chinese Wiki. So maybe this migration could be a chance to remove all the unused images in the Chinese wiki as it will save a whole lot of space in the server? Not sure if the tech team can do this, but it would be nice if they can. ;) —Powup333 ZH Admin 23:54, 22 August 2013 (UTC)

Unfortunately that's not going to be possible. With everything else (separating the Dutch and German wikis) trying to sort through which images are needed/not needed is not really on the agenda. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 23:21, 23 August 2013 (UTC)

After the migration, would the curse team help us change all the interwiki links?;) or do we administrators have to change it ourselves?:(

Also, what about same username account on different language wikis? how will the migration affect it?(New curse account and email needed?)

Last of all, any clear date of the migration yet? —Powup333 ZH Admin 01:10, 8 September 2013 (UTC)

All interwiki links will be taken care of, one Curse account for all wikis = one username for all wikis (though you can have different display names on each wiki if you choose). No definite date yet, though it's tentatively scheduled for next week, I will post a new site notice, as well as more detailed instructions on the user merge as soon as I have a concrete date. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 04:49, 11 September 2013 (UTC)

Could a redirect occur for anyone trying to navigate to minecraftwiki.net? I'm going to make that mistake a lot. 23:44, 10 September 2013 (UTC)

As stated in the message and elsewhere on this talk page, yes, this will be implemented. -- Orthotope talk 00:35, 11 September 2013 (UTC)
Will redirects for other wikis also be created? (*.minecraftwiki.net → minecraft-*.gamepedia.com) --GreenStone (0x54; 0x43) 07:54, 11 September 2013 (UTC)
All language wikis will be redirected to the appropriate url. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 15:45, 14 September 2013 (UTC)

Name Xfer[edit]

I already have a Curse.com account and a Wiki account. When the merge happens does this mean I will have two accounts for Curse? Will their be a merge option to combine the two accounts? Also, what if you have a Wiki account that has the same name on Curse, but you own both accounts? You should be be able to merge the two into one another to keep the same name or choose which name you want to make permanent in the merge. 08:19, 14 September 2013 (UTC)

If you used the same email account for both, your wiki account will be merged with your Curse account. If not, a new Curse account will be created using the email address used on your wiki account. To avoid this, go to preferences on the wiki and make sure the same email address is entered as the one used on your Curse account. Your Curse account determines your username. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 12:34, 14 September 2013 (UTC)
